From the 17th century until 1863, Bonaire, like many islands in the Caribbean, relied on slave labour to work plantations and the salt pans.
Goto (Pronounced Go - To) Meer is a beautiful protected reserve area where you will often see flamingos and native birds in their natural habitat. In the background you see the tallest hill on the island called Brandaris.
Rincon was the first official town established in the 16th century. Here you will see some of the oldest buildings on the island, typical local architecture, and learn why this location was chosen many years ago to be the first official settlement when the Spanish discovered Bonaire.
We will be on a top of a hill where you can see Bonaire from a high point in the middle of the Island.
Sorobon (Lac Bai) is a shallow bay with a small beach and here you see the beautiful colors of the windsurfers and the Crystal clear turquoise water. We can clim the watchtower and have an amazing view over Lac Bai.
In a picturesque landscape, on the Caribbean coast, we stop at the salt mountains and pink salt pans. Participants can enjoy the environment, take pictures, and receive salt crystals as a present.

Here you will see the Slaves Huts, where you will be able to experience how the enslaved people were working on the Island.

Verna picked us up at the cruise ship terminal and took us on a personalized tour of both the North and the South of Bonaire. We let her know we were not interested in touring the liquor factory or shopping and that we prefer photo stops, wildlife, etc. We were thrilled with our stops and the photos we took at 1000 steps, Karpata, Goto Lake where flamingos live in their natural habitat, Rincon that was established in the 16th century, & a quick stop at a cactus liquor distillery where we saw many colorful birds! On the south part of the island we went to the salt mines and were able to pick chunks of natural sea salt to take home. We also stopped to watch the windsurfers & hydrofoils. This was one of the best tours we've ever taken!!
This is the first activity we did on our trip to Bonaire. We wanted to get a sense of the island and maybe some guidance of things to do, and things to avoid. Kirsten (probably not spelling that correctly) picked us up at our hotel and took us on a great tour of all the sections of the island. She’s very knowledgeable and down to earth and had a great sense of humor. There have plenty of stops along the way for pictures and more detail detailed discussion as well as general advice some places to eat things to do and where to find good snorkelling opportunities. It’s definitely worth it to book a tour with her.
Our family booked the VIP Private Highlight Tour – North & South with Private Guided Tours Bonaire, and it exceeded all expectations. Sass was amazing! The instructions on where to meet were clear and concise. Sass was very sweet and the kids loved her. She was so knowledgeable about the whole island. I’ve been to Bonaire 🇧🇶 a few times and done a few different excursions but this one far surpassed expectations and hopes! Three is us booked this tour and we were 20 min early to the port not knowing how long it would take us to disembark our ship. To our surprise and delight, Saskia was already waiting for us! Immediately her cheerful attitude and affectation made us know we were in good hands. She showed us around the island, customized the itinerary slightly when we asked, was our tour guide, our question answerer, our videographer and photographer and, immediately, our friend. Her knowledge of the island and her passion for making a visitor’s experience is evident and she’s exactly in the right industry. We had the pleasure of meeting up with Kirsten while at a site and I can see that the company, as a whole, is passionate about the guest experience. After a 9 day cruise and everything that comes with that, hands down, unanimously, our favorite part of the trip was this excursion. Our guide, Saskia, met us promptly as we left our ship. She was friendly and outgoing, and full of good history and information. The car tour around the north and south of the island showed us the true beauty of the island. We made several stops for photos and even stopped at a local distillery for a tasting and quick tour. What an amazing experience! My husband and I usually rent a car and explore on our own, but being on a cruise, we had limited time. Also, we wanted to snorkel but did not feel safe just going on our own in a new place. We have never hired a private guide before, and we were so glad we did! We combined the private island tour with the snorkeling tour, and Marco showed us around the beautiful island. Then, we snorkeled with tons of turtles, saw an octopus and so many beautiful fish. We spent about four hours on the tour and had a great time. Marco even went above and beyond by taking amazing pictures of us in the water with the turtles. I highly recommend at least the snorkeling tour, but add the island, too, if you want to see some interesting sites. Also, communication with Kirsten was stellar the entire time before and after our tour. Thanks Kirsten and Marco!

We had a wonderful experience with our private Bonaire island tour. Kirsten communicated well throughout the entire process. She met us at our cruise port gate and had a sign with our name on it. She drove us around the entire island in her SUV and gave us the history behind everything that we saw. We saw the tourist spots you would expect as well as some of the hidden gems of Bonaire. Kirsten never rushed us and was always happy to take photos of us. We had no idea that Bonaire was such a hot spot for divers and snorkeling. I can not recommend Kirsten enough!! My friend and I were looking for a tour of Bonaire that wasn’t going to be too long, but would cover most of the island and we found exactly that with Kirsten. She messaged us a few days prior asking what we wanted to do, and then sent us an itinerary after. We spent almost 4 hours with her and she took us literally all over the island and gave us history lessons along the way. She stopped for any and all photo ops, and even brought her own camera with her and sent us pictures she took, which were stunning. A private tour is the way to go when wanting to have the best experience ever. Marco was our guide and he was awesome and we had a wonderful experience. Marco was very knowledgeable and explained the history of Bonaire perfectly. We saw all the highlights, 1000 steps, Plantaion Karpata, Gotolake, Rincon, Seru larg, Sorobon, Salt flats, and Slave huts. When we were at Gotomeer we were lucky enough to see several flamingos. We even seen a couple Flamingos flying which was a great site. I found that the Salt mines to be very interesting. The Private Tour of Bonaire was definitely worth it. I will only do private tours to get the real enjoyment and history. At the end of our tour Marco asked if we were hungry. We said of course and he recommended a restaurant called It Rains Fishes. Wow, it was so good he wasn't kidding. My daughter and I want to thank Private Island Tours and Marco for a most memorable time in Bonaire.

Loved traveling around the island with Kirsten. It was a nice and relaxed trip around the whole island. Stopped to take pictures wherever we liked. No rush to get back in the car until we were ready. Car was air conditioned so we remained comfortable. Kirsten was very knowledgeable and friendly and even used her own phone/camera to get some photos that I couldn’t get as easily from my side of the car. Got very lucky to see flamingos very close up which was quite unexpected. Highly recommend Kirsten as a tour guide. Loved meeting her.

We spent an amazing week in Bonaire. One of the greatest highlights of our trip was an island tour and snorkeling excursion we took with Kirsten. When we contacted Kristen, she was quick to respond. When she first picked us up at our resort, we knew we were in for a perfect day. We decided to take a combination tour of north and south Bonaire. What an unbelievable and fun-filled day. We started out visiting the north. From visiting the 1000 Step Beach, Rincon, and Seru Largu, were just a few stops in the north. We had a delicious lunch at Posada Para Mira. What a wonderful place to visit and enjoy local cuisine. We finished the day visiting the south. Wow, seeing the salt pier, pink beach, and slave huts will leave you speechless. It’s hard to even begin to explain the beauty of the island. The north and south are very different and unique. Kristen is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the island, which we would have missed if we toured the island on our own. We were able to customize our trip and plan with Kristen every step of the way what we wanted to do and see. The next afternoon, we were blessed to spend more time with Kirsten. Our next excursion took us snorkeling. She knows the perfect spots to snorkel depending on weather conditions. My husband is an avid snorkeler, and this was some of the best snorkeling he has experienced. Kristen makes you feel comfortable with her expertise and guidance. even if you're not an experienced snorkeler. She pointed out sea life we may have missed if we went on our own. The pictures she took of our snorkeling excursion are absolutely breathtaking. We are still talking about the amazing time we had with Kristen. We will definitely contact her again when we return to Bonaire. My husband and I highly recommend any of her excursions or tours to everyone visiting Bonaire. Kristen is truly dynamic, and we will always consider her a friend.
