During the trip, you will visit one of the oldest working Salt Mines in the World – the Wieliczka’s Salt Mine, which has been producing table salt for over 700 years! Your English speaking guide will take you up to 140 meters underground for a 2,5-hours journey through over 2,5-kilometres long tourist route full of chambers with amazing carvings and statues and large collection of mining machines and equipment, where everything is made of salt. Please note that to reach the first level of the mine (64 metres underground), you have to descent a wooden stairway which has 378 steps. After the tour, you will be taken up to the surface with a lift.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine itself was excellent and our guide, Joanna, was outstanding. She spoke excellent English and gave us an entertaining, engaging and very informative tour. She really added to the experience and we would have no hesitation recommending her. Our driver collected us promptly in a comfortable Mercedes minivan and was courteous and professional, although he did not engage in conversation. Given the premium price of the tour, we would also have appreciated a small bottle of water being provided. There were, however, some significant shortcomings considering the price we paid. The Viator description specifically states “Skip the ticket line – the tickets are pre-booked.” Despite this, on arrival we were asked to wait in the queue. This was disappointing and not what we understood we were paying for. The other problem came at the end of the tour. Having ascended from the mines by lift, we emerged at a different location from where we had started. We were then left to find our way back to the car park to meet our driver. The directions were far from clear, and this made what should have been a straightforward end to the tour unnecessarily confusing. Overall, the Salt Mine tour itself was excellent, primarily because of Joanna, but we felt that the significant premium paid for a private tour was not justified by the additional service provided. The “skip the line” element did not appear to be delivered as advertised, and the arrangements at the end of the tour were poorly organised.
Heard mixed feedback on this- it was a must visit- really enjoyed and great visit- we had fabulous guide renatta- fascinating- lots of stairs so don't do if not able
Our visit to the Wieliczka Salt Mine was incredible. My photos of the underground chambers, sculptures, and chapel don’t even capture how impressive it all is in person. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the history and stories of the mine really engaging. The driver was also very friendly and made the whole trip smooth and stress‑free. A fantastic experience overall and highly recommended.
The salt mines where fabulous, and the driver was lovely with Mr shuttle, traffic was busy but she got through with no problems and we got to be the first group which was great.
Fantastic service, enjoyed the mine, really easy being picked up and dropped off. Really recommend this
A fab day out visiting the salt mine. Driver was friendly and welcoming. Ideal service to explore Poland
Such an incredible tour, lasted around 2 hours via the individual tourist option. Our tour guide was Agnes, very knowledgable and brilliant presentation, loads of fun. The mines themselves are astounding. A must see if visiting Krakow.
Driver picked up on time in Mercedes van and promptly got us over to the salt mines for the tour which is operated by the mine. Got us safely back in time. Highly recommend.
Super hyped and not worth visiting. 20 minutes of interest in a 2.5 hour tour. A change of exit route which added another 15 minute walk to reach a lift to the exit. And a further 10 minute walk to the ticket office.
This is the 2nd time we used Mr shuttle, really happy again. Perfectly on time. Jacob the driver was just lovely. Easy to get through into the salt mines. Jacob our driver stayed with us until we will in the mines. Really pleased. The info and reminders supplied were timely and sent is plenty of time. Definately recommend Mr Shuttle.
Great company from booking to being dropped off back at the hotel. Very professional so easy and would most definitely use them again. 15 out of 10. Exceptional. Thank you.
Easy pickup at hotel and entrance to Salt Mine. Via tour made transfer to mine super efficient and easy. Even gave us a test room break on the way!!
My son and I used Mr Shuttle to go to Auschwitz on the 17th September We were picked at 6am the efficiency of this company is second to none We then went to Shindlers factory and the Salt mines on the19th again impressed with the service our driver Mark was brilliant and told us a lot of history thank you for helping to make the trips enjoyable
It was my third visit and so far probably the worst one. The place is spectacular as always, but what really marred it for me was the aggressive catholic propaganda spewed by the guide. There was a little bit of history thrown in, but simplified, a tiny bit of geology- but mostly it was about prayers, sacred figures, sculptures and the constant ‘ god bless’. That was a Polish speaking guide- maybe other guides are not as eagerly imposing their faith on others. I understand that religion played a part in the past, it is part of history, but there is so much more that could be told about the place! If I ever go next time, I will choose the geological tour.
Good half day trip - this was the tourist route in the mine - there is a different experience called Miners route check which you want to do.
This was a great day had by all. A lot of steps going down but broken up so manageable. And thankfully a lift back up. Our tour guide was brilliant - very informative and brought humour to the tour as-well. Food in the cafe there was delicious and a good price too.
Great experience! Shuttle’s were on time and pick you up where you stay. The salt mine was very interesting and definitely worth the trip from Krakow.
Very prompt, organised and accommodating. Picked us up right outside our hotel. The driver spoke very good English and the vehicle was lovely and clean. The tour was very well orchestrated. Lots of info. But be warned, there is a lot of walking. Not that we minded. The whole trip was about 4-5 hours including travel.
The description describes the activity level. Consider it closely as the tour is fast and moves rapidly! I would have enjoyed it more if we could have spent a bit more time at each brief stop. Our tour was in English and our guide was very good but sometimes it was hard to understand the narration when moving so quickly
The tour was so well organised and our guide on the English speaking group was absolutely brilliant. Driver picked us up at the hotel and gave us a lot of information during the journey. The vehicle was very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this trip.
We were collected at hotel at time they had text us the day before ,730am .the driver was very helpful and explained a few things on way there . We were in small group On this tour , only four of us in total , he took is to where we should line up and gave is out tickets. You need to be fit for this trip as there are a lot of steps and a bit of walking , we really enjoyed seeing the mines very educational and guide was very good . Driver waiting for us at car and made our way home with the offer of being dropped off somewhere other than hotel if required. Would definitely use again
Tour guide Agnes was very good and gave us a thorough insight into the mines. Incredible sights along the Tour. Well worth doing.
Our tour guide was amazing. Witty, knowledgeable and very informative about the mines. The sculptures were beautiful. I had a truly memorable trip
My wife and I used this service to visit the salt mines outside Krakow. Our driver Chris picked us up on time. He politely introduced himself and ushered us in a very comfortable van. He set clear expectations on how we would be spending the next four hours and what to expect. He is a natural people person and perfectly suited in his role as a travel industry leader. He shared with us some of the technology improvements he’d like to help make in Krakow for the travel industry which made good sense and is needed. He was very knowledgeable about our home country (US). At my request he booked an airport transfer for me later in the day and kept in phone contact with me to insure payment and pick up detail were in order. Chris made the difference, thank you Chris!
Elizabeth our guide was exceptional and so friendly. Also Mark our driver was the same. They both made our visit so easy for us.
It was an amazing experience. Our guide in the mine was very knowledgeable. Tour transportation was on time. Highly recommend.
Definitely worth the trip. Combines history, craftsmanship and impressive engineering . 2+ hour tour, great guide. Wear comfortable shoes.
The pick up from our apartment was on time and we made another stop to get 4 other visitors and made our way to the salt mine in about 30 minutes. The driver from mr shuttle, Rafa was excellent. The mines are interesting but I wouldn’t bother to go again.
Great experience..... it's unbelievable that everything is made of salt..... simply amazing..... a must see when you visit Krakow.
The your was good very tiring you don't get enough time when you get to the Restuarant and the gift shop to actually have a rest and sit down and have a coffee but the experience is amazing and our tour guide was exceptional and the driver to and from the Salt mines
Phenomenal! Our guide was brilliant and its such a fantastic place to visit. I would recommend this to all that are visiting Krakow, it really is breath taking.
Our guide was friendly and excited to show us around this very improbable and stunning landmark. It was a small group that allowed time for questions. Thank you for a great time!
Decided to do this tour on our first visit to Krakow and so glad we did! An amazing tour. So so nice to see all the salt mines. Amazing how beautiful they are
The tour itself was fantastic but we were picked up as planned, told very little that there was a problem and we would be dropped to a different car. We spent 20 minutes at a random petrol station in the total wrong direction, waiting to be swapped into another car. Very little communication, felt sketchy! I now understand what was happening but communication was poor. It was a one off and would recommend, I just hope they take from this to communicate what it happening, rather than drive 2 guests 30 minutes in the wrong direction!
The operating company Mr. Shuttle was pathetic and provided poor. They provided no confirmation of the pick-up and drop-off time. After contacting them, they said we would receive this information later in the day. After contacting them repeatedly within 12 hours of the tour, they would not provide any driver or auto information. We waited outside our hotel for 15 min. Arriving 5 min. before the scheduled pick-up time and as instructed were OUTSIDE. We received a call from a driver, he had been waiting in the lobby. He provided no identification and drove us to another area of town. After he called someone?, he told us to walk to some vans 1 block from us to board. After the tour of the Salt mines, we boarded the van, and the driver dumped us off at a random spot, pointed and said to walk. We told him we booked the hotel drop-off, and he said he could do nothing for us - to get off, walk, and contact the company. We were not prepared with a map, and wandered around the area until we recognized something familiar and made it back to our hotel. We booked and paid for hotel pick-up and drop-off. We contacted Mr. Shuttle, and they did not respond. As a side note, the tour of the Salt Mines was interesting and informative. However, this was peak tourist season, and the groups were large. It was very rushed and crowded, so there was not much time to appreciate the sites in the mine.
10/10 driver 10/10 guide and this was onece in a lifetime experience. I would definitely recommend to anyone
It’s embarrassing to admit but I knew nothing about this place before my visit. However, I am so glad that I went on this tour. It is simply amazing. The site is well set out, the tour guides are informative and the different areas of the mine are unforgettable. You absolutely must visit this site when in Krakow.
Not enough salt! They call it a sat mine, there was none! The salt bear is terrifying too, horrible horrible horrible!!!
The history of the mine is very interesting dating back to the 1600s. The path is very well marked and easy to follow. However, you have to navigate about 800 some steps (350+) to start the tour. There are 40 people in a tour and by the time the last people get to the spot where the guide is speaking, they are pretty much done talking. They have to keep a strict schedule, so cannot wait for anyone behind. Also, our guide was soft spoken, so had to be close to him to be able to hear him. The altar rooms are beautiful and the carvings on the wall were beautiful and worth seeing. However, it was not any different than seeing such statues or carvings above ground. If anyone has been to the Carlsbad caverns, this will be pretty underwhelming. All the things to see are made by human hands. This salt mine is rated as the second best thing to do in Krakow. I would rate it a bit lower. The history is amazing. The natural part of it is either not evident or not covered by the tour. And if you are concerned about going up and down stairs and walking for 3.5 kilometers, I would pull it up on google and see it.
Historic, but Not too exciting. Had a half hour delay in departure by local tour agency. Viator does not make it clear that times may change. On a different tour with Viator (Auschwitz) we were told 12 hours beforehand that our departure time moved from 10:15am to 5:50am! Try planning your day!!!!
Great tour with an excellent guide! Thank you very much Carolina who we strongly recommend. Carol and Marina (Malta).
Wow! We visited the Krakow salt mines at 2pm and surfaced 2 hours later. Simply fascinating. Amazing how people could mine at such depths and carve beautiful statues. Unfortunately l have to warn future visitors that at the end of the guided tour you are squeezed into a tiny lift like sardines to go to the surface ! Not a nice experience and nearly spoiled the whole trip….
The guide was excellent. Very informative and funny . friendly and helpful . Made the experience all worthwhile.
This is the first time I have written a negative review on Viator and decided to share what happened to heighten awareness. Understood there would be a lot of walking for this tour and was up for that, but the additional long distance walk added to exit the mine ruined the experience. My group had the unfortunate bad luck of being directed to a second elevator to return to ground level. To reach this elevator, we were made to walk an additional kilometer underground. Once there, when we returned to ground level, we had to walk an additional 400 meters back to our parking lot! No directions were given how to get there other than "Walk straight", so some of our group got lost and the rest of us ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes for them to find their way back to the bus. The usual elevator that leaves visitors directly across the street from where buses are parked--about a five-minute walk--was used by other tour groups, but we were not given the option to wait our turn for that elevator. Worst of all, nobody cared about us. I told the tour guide there were a lot of older people in the group and this was not good. His response was, “I have to do what my boss tells me.” While waiting for the lost visitors to return, the driver pointed to the tour group that started one half hour after ours, all getting into their bus. (They exited using the usual elevator). We saw their bus leave, as we continued to wait for lost members of our group to return. What should have been a smooth and easy exit took us an additional 45 minutes! What a fiasco – and all so unnecessary. Ruined the entire experience. April, when I was there, is not high season. My group could have easily waited our turn for the closer elevator. Just be aware, this will no doubt happen again and your group may be the unlucky one. if you go on this tour, you will not have a choice which elevator your group will be directed to return to ground level. For younger people, the additional long walk to the alternate elevator may not be a problem; however, for older visitors (and there are many), this is simply too much after walking around the mine for two hours.
I was a bit worried about the tour as I wasn't sure how claustrophobic it would feel but actually it didn't feel it at all. The experience is worth a visit for the cavern alone; very impressive. Comfortable shoes are a must though! The only down side was having to find our own way back to the car park on leaving the salt mines. We made it back but with a slight detour!
There was no memorial parts as it wasn't mentioned that it was so much walking that my husband could not complete it, we had to cut the tour short...
Prepare for alot of steps and history- it is worth a visit. Travelled via train with only a few minutes walk and the surrounding area is very pleasant too.
Our whole experience was excellent. Superb communications via email, on time hotel pick up, helpful pleasant driver, interesting tour of salt mines and quick return to city. All with a smile.
We arrived at the mine, given a breakdown of the tour... Went into the mine, saw how the miners worked the mine... Walked along the tunnels they had created... Went into some amazing chambers, saw salt lakes & little chapels the miners created... The guide was very helpful and informative.. The tour lasted about 90 mins... I would recommend this trip to anyone was truly amazing, thought the place would have been dark and damp, but, it wasn't... Well done to the people who run this place, giving everyone an insight as to how they worked the mine.... Well done....
