Itinerary
Meeting Point: Wielopole 2, Kraków. Arrive here 10 minutes before your scheduled departure. Meet your fellow travellers and the driver.
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is on UNESCO's 1st World List of Cultural and Natural Heritage due to its' importance in the history of mining. The mine is also notable for a long tradition of tourism. This famous breath-taking site has been visited over the centuries by Nicolaus Copernicus, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Alexander von Humboldt, Dimitri Mendeleev, Boleslaw Prus, Ignacy Paderewski, Pope John Paul II, and crowned heads of state, not to mention millions of people from all over the world. Included in the tour is a stunning "underground town" with lakes, passages, and the marvelous Saint Kinga Chapel. The whole tour lasts about 4-5 hours. You will spend around 2 hours in the Salt Mine. If you would like to take photos, you must purchase permission at the entrance to Saint Kinga's Chapel. During this tour there is no lunch break. After your arrival back in Krakow, you will be dropped off at your pick up point.

The meeting point was chaotic as there were no clear signs or information as to where the actual bus was, it was just luck if you happened to speak to the right person. People were having to walk up and down asking for guidance. When we did arrive at the bus park for the mine it was a short walk to the entrance but it was difficult if not impossible to hear what the guide was saying so we relied on following someone we recognised from the bus. which was not ideal. Upon finishing the visit we were told where the lift to the surface was located but when we got out we were in completely different area to where we entered the mine. We eventually found our way back to the coach having to use google map which is not available to everyone. No one had been told what time the coach was leaving or how to get back to it. Everyone was annoyed and stressed by the time they got back and didn't dare take advantage of the gift shop or eating places at the mine with no idea how long we had to get back to the coach. A complete shambles and I would not use this company again.
Very interesting tour, well worth visit. Remember, there are alot of steps & walking
The pickup was fine, and the Salt Mine was really good. When it came to the drop-off, that was terrible. I thought we would be dropped off at the same place as we where pickup. but that was not the case. It was a small coach, so one would thing he driver would say when we should have got off the coach, but he did not. The driver was further along the road when the driver said we should have got off and more or less told us to get off the coach. We got off the coach, and we did not know where we were, and as my husband had trouble walking, we had to get a taxi back ot our Hotel. This spoiled the day.
This review is about Seekrakow as a tour company and not the Wieliczka site experience. We booked via our travel agent in the UK. Seekrakow have very good customer service and communications set up, so we were fully informed of any changes to collection times and location. The collection in Krakow is a bit chaotic due to the volume of tour companies using the same location; its on a busy single lane main road and the bus stop can only hold x3 buses at a time. Transport to and from the mines was fine and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. The tour was very interesting and there are some amazing areas within the mine including the hand carved chapel. Our only observation is that the tour is run at pace which means we missed several museums and areas with artefacts stored in them. There are 800 steps to negotiate, so if you aren't fit or have any injuries or disabilities, then you may struggle to keep up and will probably be overtaken by other tour parties. I would also recommend making a note of where the transport is parked (or putting a pin in Google maps). If the site is busy the staff will often route tour parties to another exit which is away from the main entrance and in a different part of the town. This lead to our party being dispersed and ultimately late to leave. Seekrakow provided instant support, and I fully recommend for engaging in any tours in and around Krakow.
Pick up was very convenient within walking distance of our hotel coach clean and tidy driver polite good trip to site our guide Alexandra was excellent answered all our question made the whole trip so exciting We really enjoyed it all 7 of us
The experience was perfect from pick up to drop off. The guide, I can't remeber her name was wonderful, really knowledgeable and explained everything in detail. The mines were better than I expected, can't believe that all that was done underground. St Kingas Chapel was mind blowing. Wod highly recommend it
Good tour and guide knowledgeable. A couple in our party found it difficult because of their mobility but we still enjoyed the visit.
The driver was good. The guide in the mines was very hard to understand. She did not welcome questions.
The tour was good. Worth going to! However was disappointed with the change in pickup/ drop off from my hotel to central meeting point. The tour operator reasoned that my hotel was in an area where vehicles are not allowed. But I was actually dropped off and picked up by uber at my hotel! No refund also offered by local tour operator for this change. Had to report matter to Headout to get a very small amount of refund for the inconvenience.
It was a nice experience. Pick up was perfectly on time and the salt mines were great. The only issue was that they did not tell us the time when to go back for the return trip, thus we did not do the museum part as we thought that the coach will not wait for us. Another issue was that we went up with the lift that is 400m away from the coach. We were confused how to find the coach. This should have been told to us before we enter the salt mines. Otherwise all was good.
Very pleasant and helpful driver and the tour guide in the salt mines gave lots of interesting information
I book a tour under headout for 830am with hotel pickup. The tour was postponed to 1030am and told me 1 day before and the pickup was not my hotel but a pick up point which i had to walk 10mins in the rain to get to jt
Excellent tour. Guide was fantastic such good English
The salt mine was very interesting but the organisation from SeeKrakow was atrocious. Our pick up point and time were changed 3 times in less than 24 hours between booking and getting on the bus, which was confusing and disconcerting. At the salt mine the driver handed us over to a guide taking a general public individual tour, not an organised group tour as we had been led to believe. This meant we exited the mine in a town centre about half a mile from where we entered and had no idea how to get back to the bus. It was only when someone from SeeKrakow phoned to complain that we were late and holding up the bus that we got directions. I would definitely advise finding a different tour operator to book the salt mine with.
Seeing the salt mines was very much above expectation! Incredible piece of landmark. On top of that, we had a great tourguide called Elizabeth. Sweet lady and brought good information about the saltmine and added nice humor to it. Thank you Elizabeth!
Very good experience. Very glad we decided to go to the mines! Tour guide ‘Samantha’ was excellent and a true professional. Highly recommended! Thanks again.
The driver was very welcoming, loads of detail of our journey told us exactly what we need to no.
This was a fabulous trip. We were picked up on time and the return to the hotel was good. The tour itself was fascinating and the salt mine with its chambers and sculptures was incredible.
Excellent trip. Tour guide extremely knowledgeable. Be prepared there are a lot of steps but going down not up. Would highly recommend.
Great trip, well organised from pick up to drop off. The guide was very informative. There are a lot of steps down, so sensible shoes are a must! A lift thankfully takes you back to the surface. You are packed in tight, though!
My wife and I enjoyed our trip to the Salt Mines. The coach travel was fine and the tour guide there was excellent. My only gripe is that when we arrived at the collection point to board our coach to the Mines, there were quite a few people also waiting there for various tours, and there appeared to be no organisation so you had to go check every coach that turned up. I'm sure they could get this sorted so that there's someone there to assist...
Couldn’t fault the communication from seekrakow about pick up times etc . At the salt mine over 800 steps to descend so comfy shoes are a must . Gets very warm - take plenty of water . The grouo we were allocated to was very big and sometimes difficult to hear the guide . Also need to be aware that the walk to the lift back is very long - we were going to stop off for a snack in the cafe but glad we didn’t as would have been very late back . This information is useful as if not aware you could miss your transport- the drivers should explain this to you .
I enjoyed my 1st visit so much that I returned with my adult daughter. How ever to experience it all you must be able to walk well and cope with stairs.
Short and beautiful trip to salt mine out of Krakow. Interesting 2 hours walk inside the mine with a guide.
Viator forgot to pay the tour to the operator, so guess what!?..I was not able to make the tour! Unbelievable!
An excellent tour and very interesting, really enjoyable. Picked up from very close to our hotel and looked after by both the driver on our way to and from the mine and the guide who took us around the mine. Thoroughly recommended and worth the money.
Wow - incredible. What an amazing trip today. It sounds horrendous that you have o go down 800 steps, but it isn't that bad. There are many highlights of the tour, but the large chapel is amazing - even the chandeliers are made of salt. Don't worry about coming back to ground level from minus 135m - you get the lift! Highly recommended
I went with some family members to see the Salt mines and all I can say is- we loved it! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. You can tell he cares about the town and the people of Poland. Family friendly environment and a great way to get some steps in on a vacation! This is a healthy way to spend time with your family.
This was a last-minute decision for me and I’m so glad I decided to go! It was an EXCELLENT way to spend the morning. The night before I booked my ticket just before midnight and the van arrived by 8:30 to pick me up the next morning. It’s just a short trip outside Kraków. Our English speaking guide was friendly, attentive, and a wealth of knowledge. Very much appreciated the convenient pick up and drop off. The mine itself is impressive and beautiful. Highly recommend this unique experience!
At the start we had to wait about 15 mins in the pouring rain as there wasn’t enough room under the canopies due to the crowds. We got absolutely soaked. Even though our tour guide was excellent the group was too large to get the best experience. Lots of other large groups and everything was really rushed. Still worth a visit
Pick up was on time and everything ran smoothly. Excellent trip from start to finish. It was great to see the mines up close. Our driver was very helpful.
Fantastic Company...really went the extra mile to help re arrange our booking after i messed up !..Comms great..easy to understand..minimal paperwork..and our tour of the Salt Mine was excellent with a really good ,easy to understand girl speaking great English. We were collected on time and the whole trip went with no problems. Perfect. We will definately use you again next visit. Thanks again SeeKrakow. Richard & Katrina , Yorkshire.
A perfect t day, even in the rain. We left on time from our meeting point. The driver introduced himself to everyone and told us what to expect. Our tour guide (Evangelina (I’m not 100% sure if I picked up her name correctly. There were 2 lady tour guides with the same name. Our lady had long dark hair and was very attractive) She’s been the best tour guide we’ve come across since visiting Krakow. She’s a credit to her employer. Very informative, jolly and patient. She had a wicked personality. Everyone warmed to her. This was a very interesting visit. It was well worth the money paid. I’d recommend anyone to visit the salt mines. You are walking around for 2 hours, so an element of fitness is required. They even cater for people with disabilities.
The salt mine Tore was simply fantastic. Well it is a lot of steps going down. It is certainly manageable. I’m 74 and my wife is 72 and we were able to make all of the physical requirements of the tour without a problem. Clearly the highlight of the tour is the beautiful chapel, salt figures, and the beautiful lighting on the way down.
A long walk to the lift about 14 mins and then back to the main entrance another 10 min walk. Lots of walking and your legs feel like jelly once you’ve climbed down the steps.
Tour guide was fantastic as was the driver. The mines themselves are just wow and definitely worth a visit, there are a lot of stairs so for anyone not able to manage just tell them there is a disabled access.
The pickup was a little chaotic: it was at a location where many people (also for other tours) were waiting at the same spot, and it wasn't clear what van we should look out for. The tour was greatly organized. The tour guide was very experienced, friendly and spoke English very well. The only feedback that I have is that there wasn't much time on each location, we often felt in a hurry.
The tour is quite demanding physically and moves at quite a pace which might not suit everyone. It was often difficult to hear the guide especially when other groups were nearby.
Absolutely brilliant! What an amazing place. Tour very well organised. Lots of steps! But worth every one. You can’t believe what is down there!! A must do whilst in Poland.
Great company to go with for tours. Whilst the saltmines was a great experience, the only downside was we couldn’t hear our tour guide at times if you weren’t at the front it was hard to hear. Maybe an audio would be beneficial. Apart from that really enjoyed it.
An excellent tour, well organised with a very knowledgeable tour guide. Highly recommend this tour. However, be warned that a degree of fitness is required due to the number of stairs to descend into mines and amount of walking required to complete the tour.
On this occasion the whole day was well organised with a half hour notified pick up. A really nice clean van with good English speaking driver. Excellent English well knowledgeable guide. A good day out .even though the stairs did m a ke me dizzy! 😆
Driver was friendly and ended up being very helpful although a judgement error on his part meant that we missed our time slot as a group if 13. He told us to wait and our guide would greet us. That did not happen. We stood as instructed by the mine entrance and did as instructed not realising we should have joined the queue for the group tours when the announcement happened!. We had to go as a group to the information office and ask if we could change to a later time 1.5 hours later. We did and we all enjoyed the tour. Our driver waited for us and was apologetic. He didn't really do anything wrong. But note to others when your timed ticket is announced join the queue and a mine museum tour guide is given to you INSIDE the building. They could definitely do with headsets and microphones as the lovely informative guide voice was not loud enough at times. The mine and museum was amazing. Note...When you have finished your tour you may possibly have to walk for another 15mins back to lift and parking. It was a lot if steps.
Brilliant company well organised trip and the tour guide was brilliant great fun and very informative loved this trip.
Changed the pick up time the evening before. We didn't have a phone in use at the time so never saw the notification. Inevitably we missed our collection time and company refused to pick us up at the previously agreed time.
Booked at hotel (Radisson Red) reception for the salt mine tour last minute after being disappointed by another local company. The service was exceptional and the salt mine tour is a must! The guide from the salt mine (Kate) was friendly and informative bring the salt mine tour alive as we made our way through. Would definitely recommend SeeKrakow and the Salt mine tour. Transport and driver provided by SeeKrakow very good.
Great experience. Interesting. We were picked up from hotel and dropped off there too. Lovely man who even brought the hat we left back to hotel
It was very unorganized, we were dropped off with no directions and struggled to find our war back to the bus. Tour itself was not informative and we were giving little information.
You need to be able bodied. There are lots of stairs. Other than that, it was a ery memorable and satisfying experience
