We booked this direct with Crazy Guides and they were great with communication beforehand, both by email and whatsapp. We were picked up in an old school Lada and the guide was informative, helpful and friendly from the moment we got in. We enjoyed the tour of Nuwa Huta as well as the locations to and from it. If you like modern history, this is a great tour to see it in real life in what was the heart of communism.

This was a great introduction to Soviet era Poland, which is not addressed by the guides in old town Krakow. Our driver, Cordelia (of Rick Steves fame) was well informed, humorous and adaptable. She had an outline to follow, but was well versed in corollary topics - so when we wanted to talk about economics, she shifted gears easily. Our personal preference would have been to spend at least some of the time walking around the area rather than looking out car windows, but we also failed to voice that. At our request, our driver returned to the classic souvenir shop so we could purchase items for home, and she brought us to the botanical garden rather than our original pick up point, also at our request. We appreciated her flexibility. Highly recommend!
Truly different and unique experience. We all loved it and laughed throughout as Thomas made it such a memorable tour. Crazy guys excellent and a very interesting factual story the likes of which we’ve never seen before.
This tour is an absolute must do if you want to relive the communist era of Poland. Tomasz, our guide, was incredibly impressive in his humorous yet humble way of explaining his own childhood experiences in Nowa Huta. Riding in a fabulous ‘police car’ was such a bonus. This is a tour where you get first hand experience and knowledge. Thanks to Kornelia for showing us the steel works bunker. We have leaned an incredible amount about the history of Poland from this utterly fascinating tour!
Cornelia was a terrific smart and funny guide! My 80 year old active parents were thrilled with this private tour in a vintage car. And Cornelia made it amazing. Highly recommend.
We had Kornelia as our guide, absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable, felt like we were friends already. A really informative tour, was definitely one of the best experiences of our trip
This tour is really interesting as well as being fun too. Our guide, Thomas, lived up to the crazy description plus being knowledgeable and funny at the same time. His Jamaican rap is something to behold🇯🇲. We were picked up from our hotel which was a bonus. All told a very good end to our visit to Krakow. If you don’t do anything else, do a crazy tour - it pays to be crazy🤪
I could not be more pleased with our experience. Our guide was so funny and engaging. I learned so much about Krakow and Poland’s history while having fun. Please do this tour and leave the old town - you won’t be disappointed!
We highly recommend this educational and entertaining tour. It was interesting getting out of the (admittedly beautiful) old town to see another part of Krakow and learn its history. Our guide Kornelia was fantastic. We can be a difficult couple who ask a lot of off-the-wall questions, and Kornelia didn’t bat an eye. The experience was more like a conversation with a friend than a canned tour. It was a great addition to our time in Krakow.
Really one of the best things I have ever done. It’s a crazy fun tour that will shock and surprise you.
This was an absolute brilliant tour from the very start to the end. I was totally convinced of the crazy off the street guy trying to sell us crooked goods to the well informed tour of Nova Huta. Tomasz was brilliant on our 2.5 hour tour… he has total high whirlwind energy and was such a laugh. The Lada police car was also a bundle of fun to drive about in. On a serious note his knowledge and experience on the politics and life of that communist period was brilliant and really helped us understand the dynamics of life. A real fun tour if you are looking for something different 🚓👀😆👍⭐️
Absolutely brilliant from beginning to end. Tomas took us around the communist areas in his Police Lada. Managed to combine being absolutely hilarious with learning loads of fascinating info. Not cheap, but worth every penny! Very highly recommended. Don't think I'll ever forget it!
Guide was extremely knowledgeable of the subject matter discussed on the tour. Took us to several stops including time for coffee/tea to provide more details. It was a wonderful experience and opportunity.
This was one of our top experiences in Krakow! If you are interested in history, especially the communist era, this tour is for you. The guides are so fun and knowledgeable. From the moment the tour starts, it is truly crazy, yet informative and fun. It was a great insight into a bygone era.
We really enjoyed our tour with Cornelia. She was such a great guide -so informative and just a great person to hang out with for a few hours. The tour was fascinating! Highly recommend if you’re traveling to Krakow! Worth the time!
Thanks to Cornelia for an amazing tour today. Really enjoyable, informative afternoon. Highly recommend this and worth every penny.
Absolutely one of the best experiences we had in Poland. Can't begin to describe how awesome our guide Cornelia was. We took the longer experience with street food and it was all you want in a tour- informative, great food, casual environment, history, fun, relaxed- all wrapped up into one package. All the guides speak excellent English, the owner Mike is super helpful and responsive, we tried local foods and excellent sausage. This is a special experience often missed by tourists- I would highly recommend CrazyGuides and a visit to the Nowa Huta
Very good trip with friendly knowledgeable guide. An interesting look back at Krakow as a communist city. The scale of the project and the numbers of people involved in Nowa Huta was quite something. The Trabby added to the day, well worth it.
This travel is so much more than sightseeing! It's driving back into another time with the Trabant, visiting shops, restaurants with their preserved smells and interiors, the gigantic steel factory. About societal visions of a workers city planned and materialized within only 6 years, its operation, economical and political showdown, reinvention. Shaping the life of so many people back then and maybe even still now... Fantastic experience. Keep on going!
Crazy Guides in Krakow was far and away the coolest thing we did on our vacation, and it was the single best tour we've ever done. We did a private tour. Our guide, Tomas, showed up hawking VHS tapes and necklaces at our hotel. How he knew we were the tour group, I have no idea. It took me a minute to be certain he must be our tour guide. It was fabulous. We then took off in a vintage Lada to Nowa Huta to see the old steel plant and the planned communist community where all the workers lived (and where people live today). The whole experience was amazing. We learned a ton about Poland under communism, Poland's transition from communism, and Poland today. We ate really good food. We drank vodka. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. It is a must the next time you are in Krakow. It's worth visiting Krakow just to do this tour.
If you are interested in how life was in communist Poland this is the tour for you! We loved this tour on really enjoyed learning about the community Nowa Huta. Our guide was amazing and made our tour extremely enjoyable! We were picked up in one of the few cars allowed in communist times. We then were driven out to a community where a factory was built and many people were encouraged to move there. Along the way we learned a lot about communist Krakow. I highly recommend booking this tour. You won’t regret it!
This tour is the only way Nowa Huta. We had a great day out with the bonus of learning a ton about Nowa Huta. A big thank you to Crazy Mike for granting our request for the Tribant. My husband was like a kid at Christmas when it pulled up at our hotel.
my 17 yr-old wanted to make sure I got on here to say how much we enjoyed and recommend the tour of Nowa Huta with Crazy Guides. Our guide Matt (Mateusz) was friendly, fun and very knowledgeable. It felt like we were visiting with distant relative or friend as he showed us around the area, pointing out the Communist Castles, and answered all our many questions. Despite my kids’ fatigue, jet lag, and general dislike of historical tours, they were engaged and attentive the entire time. We leaned a ton have a new appreciation for an important part of Poland’s history. We had a blast and highly recommend
From beginning to end, this trip was hilarious, entertaining, interesting and informative, all rolled into one. We did the 2.5 hour trip and travelled in style in an old police Lada. Tomas our guide was crazy - in a totally great way. Fully recommend this if you want to do something different whilst in Kraków.
My wife and I did a private tour today and it is simply fantastic. We have talked about it for the rest of the day. Our guide was Cornelia, and she is absolutely the best! We spent 8 days in Krakow and did many tours and visited many sightseeing locations, and of all of them this tour was one of our favorites.
If you are visiting Krakow this tour is a must. Absolutely hilarious from beginning to end. Our guides Tomasz and Mateusz were so funny whilst being very informative. I would definitely do this tour again, just for the comedic value. 10/10.
We had an absolutely fantastic time! We learned so much. It was presented in an educational and entertaining way. This area of Krakow is another world and actually going into a preserved bunker-wow. Understanding that period of communism in Poland was a rare opportunity to gain insights into current affairs. Our guide was marvelous. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a unique and marvelous experience!
I did this trip before with my girl friends and loved it. I wanted to do this trip which now included the bunker with my husband who can be critical of tours. Guess what he said it was the best tour he has ever been on. Well done Cornelia. Well worth the money
Would highly recommend. An interesting and informative tour with our very funny guide Tomask. It surpassed our expectations and we all had such a laugh. Thank you Tomask.
This is an essential tour for anyone interested in learning Kraków’s history with communism after WW2 in a fun and unique way. I’ve done this tour twice with a different person each time - 7 years apart - and amazingly, Cornelia was our guide both times! She’s really knowledgeable, clearly a history buff, and made the learning experience into something hilarious and interesting at every stop. She gave us loads of ideas of shows/movies to learn more about this era, and some nice food and drink suggestions too. The vodka she brought for us to try was also a nice bonus! It’s not the typical tourist experience you hear, but that’s what makes it so special. We chose the deluxe communist tour, which includes the visit to the steelworks bomb shelter and pierogi lunch at the communist-era milk bar. Not to mention riding around all afternoon in the amazingly no-frills Trabant! When booking, I asked if we could include the shooting range experience and Nowa Huta into 1 day and they were very accommodating. Cornelia picked us up at our hotel and afterwards dropped us near Krakus Mound as I requested. Lots of tours can be rigid about things like that so it’s appreciated. It’s not the cheapest tour, but they’re the only company running and maintaining a fleet of old Trabants, so I can’t complain too much. For me, Nowa Huta is a must see for anyone visiting Krakow and Crazy Guides do it best. They live up to the name! See you next time! Daniel and Siân 🫡
What a wonderful wealth of information this young lady Kornelia has! Very informative! The car was fantastic. What a treat. She went out of her way to find the Polish candy that we were looking for. I would consider taking any of her chores because she’s so informed.
We did the deluxe tour, 3 hours in total, which didn't feel excessive. Our guide, Maciek, was really informative, with great stories of his time growing up in the late communist era. The car was fun, one of the later Trabants so a (thankfully) more reliable VW engine rather than a 2 stroke, but still really representative of the era. The tour of the control centre at the steelworks was great. Lunch was part of the tour, very nice pierogi and traditional vodka. Overall the tour was the perfect level of crazy for us. One of the most memorable tours we've done, both for what we learnt from it and for the unusual vehicle.
Unique and fantastic experience touring around in an old communist car (we had the militia car). Our guide, Thomas, was excellent. Gave informative, fun, and humorous first hand perspectives and experiences of growing up in communist Nowa Huta and how it has changed since. We had an incredible time. Thank you, Thomas!
This is the third time I have done this tour in last 11 years- with different friends/family. Majecyk has been the guide twice and didn’t disappoint today. His first hand knowledge of the district and authentic anecdotes really enrich the experience. His passion for sharing rhe history and heritage of his country shines through and obviously the Trabant adds a fun element! Highly recommended experience if you want to appreciate the breadth of Polish history. Thank you Majecyk, hope to see you again soon! Zoe,Ren & Martha.
This was an excellent tour. Our guide, Maciek, was very knowledgeable about the history and he also shared his and his family's experiences living in Krakow under Communist rule. He picked us up in the trabant and took us to all the places listed. We spent 4 hours in Nowa huta and it was well worth it! Michał, the owner was also very responsive to our questions and booking with him was easy. I highly recommend Crazy Guides!
My husband booked this tour for us whilst we were in Krakow recently. I was a little hesitant to begin with as I didn’t think it was my ‘thing’. However, when the lovely Cornelia arrived at our hotel in the duck egg blue Trabant and offered us vodka in paper cups and chocolate I thought it might be okay after all! Cornelia was very informative. She had fascinating knowledge of the Communist era in Poland plus lots of her own interesting little anecdotes. She took us to lots of interesting places, the highlight for us being the Nuclear Bunker at the Steelworks. We had typical Polish food at the Stylowa Restaurant and then Cornelia drove us back to our hotel. Cornelia is very personable, very easy to talk to, very knowledgeable and an excellent driver. The car gets a lot of attention while you’re on the tour. It was a brilliant way to spend the afternoon.
This is an amazing tour. Crazy Mike took us in a Lada - so much fun going in such a retro car. Mike has tons of interesting stories and brought everything to life. We enjoyed it very much and laughed a lot.
A really fascinating tour around the Nowa Huta area with Cornelia. Her stories and personal knowledge brought to life times gone by, with visits to shops and cafes making it like stepping back in time. The Trabbie made the whole thing a lot of fun. Thanks Cornelia. Highly recommended
What a experience!!! I chose the 3.5 Deluxe tour to Nowa Huta, and I could not be happier I took this decision, and it absolutely worth the money. First off, my very polite and sweet guide pick me up in a original and very well kept DDR Trabant, she would drive me to Nowa Huta, the place is beyond beautiful, outstanding architecture, green areas where everything you breath is history about this place that's an colosal part of what is Poland today, with a very patient attitude and detailed attention she would explain the history behind this place using maps, pictures, and experiences told first hand by residents that lived through those hard times, then they will drive you to the Civil Defense bunkers, the smell, the dim lights, the colder temperature once you are walking downstairs it's an incredible experience, it really works like a TIME MACHINE! dont ever miss it, last not for least, we go to eat "pierogis" a typical Polish dish, I highly recommend to order "pierogis" filled with spinachs! delicious and affordable meal that will switch on your Polish side! Greateful to Crazy Guides for this experience.
We had a really enjoyable and educational trip and our guide was really knowledgeable and great fun. An absolutely must-do trip for anyone interested in Communism and the Cold War. Thank you so much Crazy Guides; a brilliant and memorable trip worth every penny!!
Fantastic experience. Great tour really enjoyed it. I booked this tour and a lovely bubbly young lady picked us up from the Radission hotel. The adventure began. I am very interested in the communist era and this was amazing. We had coffee in a coffee house went to the shops well preserved. The car oh wow was so cool. My parter had vodka as I don’t drink alcohol and that was cool. I highly recommend this tour to anyone thinking of doing it. I wanted to experience Banksy so the lovely lady kindly dropped us off at the museum. Very informative interesting and fun morning in Krakow. Was very happy we got to do something a little different. Thanks for amazing day. 5 stars from Ireland. Just loved Krakow until Our next visit.
Disappointed with this trip. Overpriced for a short tour. It was informative but nothing special. Can easily be done on your own. The tour guide was lovely but we felt rushed. Not at all impressed. It’s not fun or crazy just information and a spin in an old soviet car.
Highlight of trip to Krakow. Guide was funny and knowledgable about the area, having grown up there. Absolutely fascinating tour - would thoroughly recommend.
This was one of the funnest tours we have ever been on! The guide was a character who hilariously entertained us throughout the entire tour. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much! I didn’t think I’d enjoy the vintage car without modern comfort, but it was very comfortable and just added another element to the experience. We learned a lot about the communist era in Poland and the bunker was one of the coolest places I’ve been.
We've had a really good time with our guide (Michal). She was very knowledgeable and she was clearly passionnate with the content of the tour. We also loved eating at the milk bar and getting a real polish experience (non touristy).
The entire tour was fascinating, and the guide was fantastic. We so enjoyed learning about the Soviet era and its aftermath from a local. Plus, he was super funny and entertaining. This was our top experience in Kraków.
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. Cornelia was AWESOME! We could have spent the entire day with her.
Brilliant experience of more recent history of Cracow and Poland. We had great laughs and an unforgettable experience. Maciek and Kornelia were so well informed and funny. Fantastic 2.5h. I'd highly recommend it.
Between Cornelia’s vast wealth of knowledge about Poland’s communist past and the amazing little car in which we drove all over Nowa Huta I have to say it was an afternoon I will never forget. I saw a bunker untouched since its doors closed decades ago, a store that looks like time stood still, and so much in between. Cornelia was entertaining and extremely knowledgeable about the not-so-distant past. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Poland’s history.
This was an unexpected (but welcome!) addition to my time in Kraków. After completing some of the more common tourist activities in the area related to WWII, my friend and I were looking for something a bit different for our last day in the area. We were able to book this tour the evening before it took place, and we were so glad that things worked out! From getting picked up in a Trabant to getting to try communist-era fizzy drinks, the experience was both educational and delightful. I am also extremely glad that our tour guide recommended that we check out the local milk bar for lunch after the tour. It was the icing on the cake to our Nowa Huta experience.
