Best walking tour I've ever done. Zosia was an incredible guide. Not only a must-do in Krakow, I think it's worth visiting Krakow just for this!

I was very satisfied. The excursion was long enough to see the most interesting things. The district itself is different from the rest of Krakow, but still feels as a part of it. The guide was very inspiring. It was definitely worth the time. Would like to go there again.
We just finished the Nowa Huta walking tour in late October. The guide, Mateusz, was fantastic! Friendly, knowledgeable, and with great anecdotes that really show the total control under communism. My husband and I both learned a lot in a way that was fun and engaging. It never felt like a lecture or school. We 100% recommend this tour.
Bardzo Polecam! Highly Recommended. Zosia is one of the top-notch tour guides, she was really informative.
The tour was beyond amazing! My boyfriend and I really really loved it! It is a must do tour for everyone!!
We got the train from Krakow to Nova Huta with the guide. Jan was very knowledgeable and I found this tour incredibly interesting. First we went to the modern church which I really enjoyed because of the unusual style. We then walked through the main parts of the town and went into an apartment which has been decorated exactly as it would have been during the communist era - something I have never experienced! Jan spoke more about Nova Huta while we had a break inside the apartment. The second half of the tour was in the underground bunker at the steelworks factory! Overall an excellent experience - well worth the money. Thanks for a great tour Jan!
I found this a very interesting place to visit and also got to ride on the Buses and Trams - This may not be in the top attraction but I would still say go - My guide was excellent and full of local knowledge - apart from just the buildings we got to see the Factory that employed thousands of people not just in the factory but also in local trades
Excellent Guide - although I was the only person he never rushed and I am confident he never missed out anything on this tour - and to me it was exciting as we used both trams and bus’s to get there and back The guide gave me instructions on how to get to my next tour using the trams by myself this included me changing from on number to another - but it worked perfectly and I was on time for my next tour
We really enjoyed the Nowa Huta tour, it’s a great way to see alternative side of Krakow and learn more about it’s modern history. Our guide Maciek was amazing! Through facts and people stories he managed to give an idea of how it was to live in Nowa Huta. Highly recommend this tour and will be back for more tours with Walkative!
We were having a lot of fun with guide Natalia! She was competent, charming and very nice. We spend wonderful 2 hours with her in Nowa Huta!
Kommunist krakow tours, a must do,,,,,, took a trip there last nov 14, great guide, you Get picked up from your hotel, and to sit in a trabant from 1982 is a MUST DO, i had 2 AMAZING hours, happy travels joseph
This was a fascinating tour of the history of the Jewish community in Krakow. Our guide Natalia’s knowledge of the subject was very impressive. Highly recommended
The communist era is barely talked about and given attention to in Krakow, as it pales in comparison to the atrocities of the Nazi and WW2. However, it is still an important part of history and Natalia did a really great job presenting the facts and the lives during the communist era.
The Nowa Huta walk was excellent. The content was interesting and so were the locations and stories. Our guide was friendly, very knowledgeable and delivered a most interesting narrative. The walk ended up longer than advertised, although we didn't mind the somewhat longer break at the cafe.
Tomasz is personable as a guide and highly knowledgeable on the history/society under the Communist regime in Nowa Huta and Poland in general. He lead the tour flexibly and thoughtfully so that we were comfortable, which made it easy to take in the information. Learning about the life of that era told respectfully by someone who lived it was a special experience for me. It is essential to have this perspective when you are a visitor to Poland.
Our third tour with Natalia who is an excellent guide; she is friendly, charismatic and speaks perfect English. This was our sixth day in Krakow and the communist era had barely been mentioned. So we were really glad that we took this tour to fill in a big gap in our knowledge. Nowa Huta is a complete contrast to Old Town Krakow (although only 10 km away by tram) and well worth seeing.
Guide was great in telling us stories that we are unaware of. definitely a good way to learn about the history of this city!
All it was perfect. The guide has a lot of information and the talks very well about a non easy topic
Walk the planned community of Nowa Huta where spontaneous protests in 1959 protecting a wooden cross helped trigger events which lead to communism's collapse decades later. Walk Lenin Square, now renamed for Ronald Reagan, and snack in a worker's cafe. Guide Simon gave us a compelling narrative of Communist dysfunction, though he skipped Pope John Paul II's involvement in Nowa Huta, a glaring omission.
A very interesting tour. Our guide Syzmond was very professional. I did 3 tours with this company and didn’t regret it. Highly recommend them. Very informative tours.
We took the tour of Nowa Juta (named 'Comunist Krakow'). It was very interesting and it has been a pleasure talk with our guide Damien about the social and economic situation in Poland and Europe. Nowa Juta is a very big place, so the best way to go is choosing this tour, otherwise you will not understand the story of this place and will not see the things that deserve a visit. Higly recommended for people who want to see a Krakow alternative at the most tourist routes
This was my favourite part about krakow. Our guide Jakob was brilliant and had lots of knowledge to share. His personal experiences and memories of living under soviet rule made it a truly memorable experience. I cannot recommend this tour enough!
Ela knows a lot of things about the city and showed us Kazimierz in a very enjoyable way, I would 100% recommend visiting the jewish quarter with her.
I took the Communist Krakow Tour (Nowa Huta). It was really interesting to see this other side of the city, a side which many tourists just ignore. The architecture, the History, the pros and the cons, all was wonderfully explained by the amazing guide Boni. She was just perfect, speaking besides spanish, portuguese, as well. It's hard to find a portuguese speaking guide in Europe.
Our guide Matías was absolutely passionate in his job. It was a really interesting excursion in which we could learn a lot of things about communism in Krákow and Poland. Although we think it is not a must in your visit to Krákow, we highly recommend you to go if you are staying more than 3 days in this city.
The guide Ela is really good. She puts life in her words. I would have liked the tickets for the tramway had been included.
We had a really brilliant tour and Daniel was really informative and friendly. Would highly recommend. 5/5 :)
The tour was amazingly informative, and the guide, Babel. He was not only thorough but answered every question, even some that had little to do with area. My wife and I are both some what handicapped and he was very patient with us and took his time to make sure we were as comfortable as possible. A very good guide. Deserving of the tip we gave him and much more. By far one of the best tour guide we’ve ever had!!!
I know I am awfully late with my review. Still I remember even now, two months lates how interesting and fascinating it was for me. I must admit that I was a little bit sceptical to see that my tour guide for Polish communism was from Spain. As I am myself from Estonia and I've lived in France, I've seen the misconception of the communism that in West of Europe people believe to have been in Sovien Union (I have lived the communist time myself). But Victòria did the tour really cool and really interesting. She gave loads of small interesting details from the time and Nowa Huta for me got a personality thanks to her. I do recommend this tour. Really! I also warn that people who are interested in "beautiful" buildings only, may not be satisfied at the end. But those who love stories, the hidden stories of places and people (and most stories are contradictory, not beautiful), then this tour will give you something different.
We took three free tours, with Dominika Agustyn and Mario All of them were perfect. Complete interesting and dinamic. I totaly recomend them !!! Lucia and Barbi from Argentina.
The communist tour was one of the most interesting tours I have ever been on. It was a strange feeling to walk around in Nowa Huta. I highly recommend the tour to anyone interested in the post-war period. Thank you so much Pawel for an unforgettable tour!
'Big Tom' was our tour guide. The tour was amazing and a highlight of our trip to Krakow. Tom's passion and enthusiasm is contagious and I have been reading up more and more on Nowa Huta since the tour. Highly recommended - so much so that this is my first TripAdvisor review.
Our tour was amazing from start to finish, very informative, excellent knowledge and felt like we got to know more about the history of Poland through our tour guide in 4 hours than we did the whole stay in Krakow. Would highly recommend this, we absolutely loved it!!
Greeted by Jerry my wife and I went on a short tram journey to Nowa Huta . Whilst on the tram Jerry explains the ideas and plans for the communist life. Opened mouthed we listened ! There are many stops of interest (inside too) that I won't reveal so the surprises stay just that. We were amazed by Jerry for the full length of the tour his knowledge and passion second to none. This tour will add another dimension to your Krakow trip and is well worth the small fee . We thought we knew about communism how wrong ,Jerry knows about communism and shared the facts on an amazing tour . Thank you Jerry for your knowledge ,humour but most of all sharing some of your personal experiences.
My husband and I had a private Communist tour with Tomasz recently. It was money well spent!! He is a clearly passionate and extremely knowledgeable young man, who grew up during this communist period. Tomasz was able to bring in his own real life experiences into the mix, which helped in a better understanding of what families had to endure during these times. My husband and I knew nothing about this period in Polish history and Tomasz was brilliant in ensuring he fully answered all our questions to our satisfaction. I would thoroughly recommend this tour for everyone, and not to be put off due to your lack of knowledge about this era at all. I cannot stress enough just how Fantastic a guide Tomasz is, and we were extremely fortunate that our communist tour with another tour company fell through as we would otherwise have missed out on booking through Walkative tours Krakow and having Tomasz as our guide!!!
This was a very interesting tour. Our tour guide, Matt, was great. He speaks very good English and is very knowledgeable about the area. It was very interesting to hear about the communist era. I did lern some new and very interesting things about the era. Everyone should have this tour to understand communism.
At first I was a bit put off by the length of the tour, but it turned out to be great, there is so much information to catch, but the guide took care of creating enough possibilites to sit down and relax. It is so informative and interesting, and you can really see signs of this recent history and make connections that you wouldn't get if you were there on your own. Really amazing experience!
Pawel was an excellent and incredibly knowledgeable guide for our tour of Nowa Huta. I highly recommend this tour to get a different view of life during the Communist regime in Poland.
Because of the great transport. It really is a funny thing that mostly work. Trabant is also a noisy smelly car I will never forget 😀 Because of the history of Krakow post war is explained by the people who lived it. They experienced the 80 and 90 as children and have lots of funny things to say about it. Hyperinflation, queuing and rasjon cards was real for them. Because the guides genuinely love and care for Krakow and Poland. I got a memory of a lifetime, and I know you can to.
We did the Spanish version of this tour and was just so interesting. We learned so much about the history of this period and was just worth it! Ela did a great job! Thank you!
Being early in the tourist season, there were only 5 of us on this tour. We took a tram out to Nova Huta and spent 3 hours walking the streets and understanding the years of communist rule. Two highlights were the Arka Pana Church and the propaganda film. There is real value in getting out of the old town area and exploring more of Krakow. Our guide, Matthew, was excellent.
Very entertaining, informative and very interesting. The tour gave us a brief look back to communist times through the streets in the disctrict with a visit to a classic soviet style apartment which was like being in a time bubble . Driving around in the Trabant was a nice touch.
Took the "Communist tour" of Nowa Huta on Friday, November 24 with Tom. This was the highlight of my time in Krakow. While Tom said he has been with this company for a while this was his inaugural Communist tour. He was so passionate and brought in many personal stories of his father and grandfather and their views of the communist regime and their "model" community of Nowa Huta. While Tom was only 7 when the Soviet Union pulled out of Poland, he also shared stories from his early childhood. Tom showed our small group the important sights and always brought in the human element of residents who had lived in the area. We also had a nice break at the cultural center where we saw an old propaganda film. While not the most attractive part of the city, it is a fascinating and integral part.
Interesante y no deberías perderltela.
