Itinerary
.
Oświęcim is a town located some 31 miles (50 km) west of Krakow. It's where the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau is located, and as such has become known as a place of martyrdom, suffering and death. You will be taken to Auschwitz I, where you will join an English tour – provided by the Museum’s guide – for about 2,5 hours. After that, we will transfer you to Auschwitz II – Birkenau, which is about 2 km away. You will spend there about 1 hour with the same guide.
Wieliczka is one of the most beautiful places in close proximity to the city. The famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, the salt mine, is visited every year by thousands of tourists. You will be transferred to the Salt Mine in Wieliczka, which happens to be one of the oldest working Salt Mines in the World – it has been producing table salt for over 700 years! You will be attending an English guided tour. Your guide will take you up to 140 meters underground for a 2,5-hours journey through over 2,5-kilometres long tourist route full of chambers with amazing carvings and statues, where everything is made of salt.

Our driver Max picked up us promptly from the meeting spot and got us straight into Auschwitz-Birkenau. The drive there and onto the Salt Mines was very efficient and comfortable. Highly recommend going with this tour group if you want an organised, professional and efficient tour.
Interesting day. Very long! Driver Dawid was brilliant! Trip round Auschwitz was very informative but felt rushed. Just walked through without chance to stop and really look. The guide was very knowledgeable. Salt mines were amazing, better pace and Justine the guide was brilliant! Think it would have been better over 2 days.
Pick up was prompt and bus was clean and driver was hospitable. Guild for Aushwitz - Birkenau, was WONDERFUL, she was extremely respectful to the memory of those who have perished, very knowledgeable about the subject matter. She definitely knew her stuff. The guild at the Wielicka Salt Mine was less so. I felt rushed at every turn, she skipped exhibits and overall I didn't get the vibe she wanted to be there. She hardly gave us any ti.e in the biggest chapel and to reiterate she skipped over exhibits.
A bit rushed. Only about 15 seconds in the gas chamber. Driver never said 2 words the whole trip and drop off was 15 minutes walk from my hotel and I was freezing and soaked through from the rain by the time I got home.
Great experience, comfortable transport, friendly driver. However at the salt mine, we should have been informed that we would exit at a different site, and needed to make our way back to the entrance to the mine.
Excellent day trip, our guide at Auschwitz- Birkenau was very knowledgeable, clearly knew his topic and the history. It is a difficult tour from a content standpoint, definitely not a place to bring young children. The headphones they provided for the Auschwitz part of the tour were very useful, guide only has to speak softly and everyone can hear. Guide at Wieliczka Salt Mine also very knowledgeable and made it interesting. The salt mine is truly amazing, a must see.Tour operator gave me the option to arrange for lunch which was very convenient. The 2 venues in 1 day makes for for a very long day, there's a lot of standing around and walking, at both Auschwitz- Birkenau and at the salt mine. You will be tired at the end of the day but it avoids 2 separate trips, so you can enjoy a full day enjoying and relaxing in Krakow.
I went straihgt to the Heath when we learnd that we where wolking om the ases of the millions dead. The only thing we needed was information on where to go first and last. Whe drove for an auor to get back to the last place to visit
Don’t want to say too much about Auschwitz. If you are in Krakow you have to go. Tour picks you up at hotel and drops you back. The salt mines are wonderful and a must visit. They are not too crowded due to Covid so now is a must. And a got a little souvenir found on floor. Tour company very good. Would recommend.
A great tour with a great guide!! Very friendly and informative. Couldn’t ask for any more. Would recommend this to everyone
Terrific tour of both. Great tour guides, really informational and knowledgeable. Special shout out to Dominik, our guide in the Salt Mine who was absolutely brilliant. Also, the driver of our bus (Michael) was amazing.
Highly recommend this to anyone, what an excellent experience we all had, our driver and tour guide was excellent. Money well spend.
The trip was AWESOME. Our guide at Auschwitz was fantastic, and we could not have asked for greater guide. The only complaint I have, is the van that took us to all the places, the leg room was not good. I am 5'8" and my husband is 6'2" and our knees were pushed against the seat in front of us for at least an hour at one point.
Driver was polite and kept us up to date throughout the day, really interesting things to see as well. Worth a trip to Kraków just to see Auschwitz- a very important historical site.
Really good trip. It was a long day but worth doing both together. Tour guides were friendly and informative. Both had really good english. We were picked up exactly on time in the morning, no waiting around through day day either.
Very well organized tour. Easy and quick communication through email. Pick up was on time and the day ran very smoothly, starting with Auschwitz - Birkenau tour followed by a one hour lunch break before the Saltmines tour. Our guide was brilliant. Though it’s a long day I would highly recommend the tour.
Excellent Tour Guide was very informative. It’s very moving and emotional covers a large area. Lots of walking
We have just come back from Poland and highly recommend this tour, the guides are amazing and so informative. Amazing!!
The guy in the mini bus was amazing! Organised and on time, pick up from the hotel, gave clear instructions on where we were going first/meeting points and how long the journey will take. The minibus was very luxury. The actual tour guides in both the salt mines and Auschwitz-Birkenau were very informative and knowledgeable and were happy to answer any questions. You were given earphones so could hear them both clearly no matter where in the group you were and you couldn't get lost. It was a long day and lots of walking to do the both in one but definitely worth it if only in Krakow for a few days. Definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience. Hotel pick up! Full long day. Restaurant to Auschwitz-Birkenau that they use, you need cash. We only had card. Used burger place around the corner it was horrible. Would book with these again
Excellent service Great guides on bus and on site Long day but worth it Try doing them over 2 days if time permits
We were texted our pick up time the night before and were picked up on time from our air bnb. Mini bus was comfortable and got us from A to B with no issues. The actual trips were incredible and a must for anyone visiting the area. Our only issue was the bus driver who barely spoke to us and came across like he really didn’t want to be there. Despite this I would still recommend this tour!
Excellent tour, guide was very knowledgeable and was keen for you to ask questions. Transport was very comfortable. Although lunch wasn't included we had plenty of time to eat our own food. There was also time to eat at a restaurant close to the salt mines.
Excellent tour. Definitely a must see for everyone although extremely harrowing. Tour guides excellent and knowledgeable.
Super service...from pick up with very friendly and polite driver to amazing travel guides who were both knowledgeable and passionate and keen to give as much info as possible. Itinerary was timed perfectly.
Great experience. They picked us up at the hotel and returned us at the same location. The bus driver was very nice and punctual. The tour was well organized and the guides were great.
We booked this trip and was a little worried about the comments of it being such a long day but we needn’t have worried. Pick up time was confirmed the day prior to our trip and we were picked up at 7.30am promptly and taken to a larger bus of about 30 people by our Poland Active guide Michael who was great! We got to Auschwitz at about 9.30 and our tour commenced with our Auschwitz tour guide and a headset. The tour of Auschwitz and Birkenau took until about 1.30pm and was incredibly informative, thought provoking and very moving - a definite MUST visit if you are in Kraków/ Poland. We then travelled for a good hour to the salt mines and had been booked in to a nearby restaurant by our guide. We had an hour to order food at the restaurant and was then walked across to the Saltmines at about 4pm. Again our tour was exceptional and the guide Marek was very comical and a fun guide which lightened the afternoon. The salt mines are stunning and again a MUST see if in Kraków. I’m so glad we decided to do both tours in one day as we were only in Kraków for 3 nights. The saltmine tour finished at 6pm and we were dropped at our hotel at 6.30pm. My Fitbit said in excess of 23,000 steps but we freshened up once at the hotel and were able to go out afterwards so not exhausting just a full day. If you’re short of time I would definitely book this trip. Poland Active thank you very much for a well organised day!
We had a great time with time on our tour, the driver, the guide and the tour director were fantastic. They accommodate a last minute change to add lunch time and made reservations for the whole group. Highly recommend the tour. Just make sure to pack plenty of snacks.
The driver and guides were nice, well spoken and prompt. Both Auschwitz and the Salt mine were very. interesting. The salt mine was very impressive and the guide very good. Excellent visit. Auschwitz was expectedly moving, but, unfortunately, far too rushed. Partly because of the crowds visiting I'm sure but there wasn't enough time to read displays, look at exhibits properly or fully absorb the scale of what happened. We were frequently pushed out of the way by the next groups guide and all in all we were deprived the opportunity to sit, contemplate, reflect and pay our respects. This unfortunately left us feeling guilty that we had just rushed through and not really felt the deep emotion, horror and remorse that we expected.
Every detail of the tour is great and with this places you're like part of the huge history and you can fill it all on your body. Everyone knows abou the Auschwitz but when you enter its gates.... you should see it in live, where people walked, worked, slept and many many more. Salt mine ah so beautifull and huge place, the amount of work putted there is unbiliviable. All the people who gets to or near krakow MUST definitly go there. Also the tour orginizers are very good and enjoieble people. Hey to Patrick which organized it and was our perfect driver.
Very informative guide at Auschwitz, very good a must see tour to do, albeit sad, can’t believe we walked where the prisoners walked and suffered! God bless them all. Again at the Salt Mine the guide was very good, this was hard walking and a lot of stairs but we knew about this when booked but it is tiring but amazing world built out of salt 135 metres underground!! Enjoyed both tours.
Everything went really well, pick up and the quide was on time. Quide did his job great and the whole day was planned on time.
Excellent communication with the company prior to trip. Thomas our driver was brilliant and friendly throughout the whole day. Lovely gift from him too, Krakow postcard as a souvenir. Age group between 32-59 all coped with the days walking. We thought is was great value for money. Would highly recommend! Thank you!!!
A very interesting day, and a tour that I would thoroughly recommend. The trip through Auschwitz is without surprise, thought-provoking and chilling at the same time. Everybody needs to experience this in hopes of understanding the atrocities that occurred. As for the salt mine to her, I didn’t know what to expect but I’m so happy that I experienced it. It was absolutely captivating and interesting. Considering the mine is hundreds of years old and only imagining life when the mind started in the 1600s, one can’t come away without being suitably impressed. Both of these sites are an absolute must see if you are in the Kraków area.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting Poland. Very long day but worth it. Wear comfy shoes 😊 amazing experience!!
I wasn’t sure what to expect but knew we needed to visit Auschwitz to pay our respects and see what we have read about first hand. I would definitely recommend a tour (we usually don’t, but it was the best way to experience both Auschwitz and Birkenau). A comfortable bus, a very knowledgeable tour guide who shared her knowledge in a respectful, yet informative way. The tour of Auschwitz/Birkenau was very well organised with plenty of time to see everything balanced with ample breaks. Lunch was less so. Although the guide had phoned ahead to let the recommended restaurant know we were arriving, I don’t think they had enough staff to cope and we waited ages to eat, then barely had time to finish our meal before having to go to the salt mine. However the food was good. The salt mine was a very interesting tour but after the camps, we perhaps didn’t appreciate it as much as if we’d visited it separately. However if you only have a short time in Kraków, this tour is definitely worth doing, I’d just suggest eating somewhere else - we discovered other options in Wieliczka.
Taxi pick up from my apartment was extremely prompt and driver was very friendly. He was also knowledgeable about Krakow and the ‘attractions’ of the day. What’s more, he ensured we knew where to be at what time/had our tickets ready for entry at Auschwitz and the Salt Mine, so we didn’t have to do anything really! The day itself ran smoothly and we got to see an awful lot, although because there was so much packed in and there were lots of groups moving round the camps and salt mine at the same time, there wasn’t a lot of time to really stop and take it all in (I appreciate though that this was possibly more a downfall of how the camp museum and salt mine as opposed to this tour operator). What’s more, as our group of seven joined another group (in total there was maybe 20 of us In our group at Auschwitz and 30 at the salt mine) it was difficult to see what the guides were talking about at times. It was only when you shuffled round to move on that you could see some of the aspects they were referring too but you had to be quick to keep up and not be in the way of following groups. Again, it would’ve been good to stand and take it all in for a few minutes rather than walking past and looking at the same time. Saying all that, the guides were very knowledgeable and our salt mine tour guide in particular was extremely enthusiastic and interacted with the group the whole time. He was also really funny (cant remember his name but he had glasses and a self-confessed “baby face”.) For the money, I’d definitely recommend this tour and also doing all three elements in one day if you’re limited for time. Yes it’s long but you do get breaks and the journey is a good hour so plenty of time for a nap And sit down. Lunch isn’t provided but I bought packed lunch items from a shop the day before so that didn’t bother me. The driver was fine with us eating and drinking in the taxi too. He also organised a table for those interested at a restaurant by the salt mine which was extremely cheap and had a wide range of stuff on offer (all looked very nice from what I saw come out.)
The Auschwitz-Birkenau tour was eye opening and worth visiting to see the scale of it and remember, tour guide Martin is very good and knowledge and friendly. The driver was friendly and got us to both locations on time and a pack lunch was included. The salt mines was okay, the guided tour could have been better and given us couple of minutes in each section to take photos and take it in, the guide just felt rushed and wasn't able to take photos in all areas. If able to do without a guide would have preferred it so could take photos and enjoy it more.
Very eye opening. Tour guide Martin at Auschwitz was very informative. Driver was friendly and got us to both locations in plenty of time without loosing time at the attractions. Salt mines was good but need more time in couple of sections to be able to take more photos as it was slightly rushed through the tour
Attended both on same day communication throughout the whole process from booking to the end of the day was excellent we were kept well informed at all stages of the process. Our driver Mathew was very pleasant chatty and engaged with everyone he picked up a very emotional trip to the Camp and very thought provoking take plenty of tissues and be prepared for lots of walking highly recommend we received a very professional service as always when booking with Viator Thankyou
This really was an experience!! Collection from our hotel at an agreed time with the company and I was also called by our driver (can’t remember his name but he was a very nice man) and taken to Auschwitz in our group of 7. Taken around both parts of Auschwitz by our guide Marcin who was fantastic and very knowledgeable. As you can understand it is a harrowing experience but worth visiting 100%. After Auschwitz we were taken to Salt Mine where at the nearby restaurant a table was booked for us to get a lovely lunch and we got a 90 minute break for this. Then on for our 2 hour guide of Salt Mines by Margaret who again was fantastic. The efficiency and smoothness of this trip and company can not be faulted. This is definitely the best way to do both these sights in one day. Highly recommend!
The driver was amazing and the tour guides at each place were also excellent. The only negative was in the description given by the tour operator when signing up. It states that lunch is not provided but did not state there would be no scheduled stop of lunch either and that you would need to bring your own provisions with you. 11 hours is a long time between meals.
This tour was planned really well. I was on the tour bus on 27th December 2019 and both tour guides at Auschwitz-Birkenau and Wieliczka Salt Mine where fantasic. knowledgeable and i would highly reconmmend this tour company. They are great at communicating and collection is on time.
I have no words that can adequately describe my experience of this tour. The guide Crzystof was excellent and very knowledgeable. I think everyone should visit as it's very important to understand what happened here.
Our superb guide made this an unforgettable experience. Not an easy place to visit but we now understand the desire of those who, by some miracle survived, to have this as a memorial to the victims of such evil. The tour was informative and honest about the atrocities of Hitler and also totally respectful. What made it even more special was being in a group of just six people. Worth every penny, thank you. The salt mine was interesting but huge group of 40 people and a tour guide who was not always easy to understand made this visit just ‘okay’. Our taxi driver for the whole day was great.
Both were great, done both in one day but worth it, well organised ran like clockwork, recommended booking through trip advisor (Poland Active).
Very impressed with Poland Active and their organisation of the day out. Our driver Ivan was friendly, helpful and always ready and waiting for us at the end of each leg of the tour. Would highly recommend booking through them so as not to miss anything nor worry about getting to and from Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Salt Mine. Thank you Ivan 😊
Had fantastic guide at Aushwitz-Birkenau, not enough time though, needed free time after to go have a look round. Corrected facts and myths! Salt mine is also worth a visit. Highly recommended. Actual tour company used ferried us from place to place, told us where loos were but had no interaction other than that.
It's hard to know the words to use given the context but in short, the trip is probably one of the most important 'tourist' trips you'll ever go on. The whole day was very well organised, our driver was brilliant and very knowledgeable. They also pick you up from any address, you don't have to be at a hotel. Our guide at Auschwitz was fantastic- no idea how he retained all that information. The whole place is a stark reminder of what happens when politics goes dreadfully wrong so regardless of how uneasy you may feel, this is definitely a trip worth doing and I'd highly reccomend this specific one. Salt mines were beautiful too and guide was fantastic and very sweet :-).
We were picked up from outside our accommodation at 7.05am. Initially we were worried because we weren't given a phone number in case we needed to contact anyone, but it wasn't necessary as the taxi arrived smoothly. We had a mini bus with 5 other people (8 in total). We first went to Auschwitz-Birkenau (1hr20 drive), joining a larger group, and had a fantastic guide who explained everything we saw and told us personal stories. We then drove about an hour to the Salt Mines. You have some time to get food but I recommend bringing a packed lunch to eat in the car. We then visited the Salt Mines which were beautiful and once again had a great guide. This involves a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. Finally dropped back at our apartment at around 6pm. A great day - we really recommend!
