Tour of Fort Charles. The first fort to be erected in Port Royal was Fort Charles. It was built in the late 1650-60 and was originally called Fort Cromwell but was renamed Fort Charles. The fort underwent several changes between 1656 -1670. In 1667, the fort had 36 guns and by 1765 it had 104 guns and a garrison with 500 men. The World Heritage Committee inscribed The Archaeological Landscape of 17th Century Port Royal, Jamaica on the World Heritage List.
Sightseeing tour of Port Royal, including the fishing village and The Grand Excelsior Hotel. One of the oldest and most historic regions of the country, Port Royal has maintained much of its independence as well as its heritage. Once the enclave of pirates and other outlaws, there is still a strong seafaring tradition. Much of the old city, described in the 17th century as the "wickedest city in the west", lies underwater beside the town, the result of an earthquake that in 1692 swallowed about two-thirds of the then-living space. Since then, another earthquake in 1907, numerous hurricanes, fires, and various population-decimating diseases have plagued the town. Despite all, the waters around Port Royal are a virtual archaeological gold mine, filled with pieces of history that tell of everyday life in the earliest days of English occupation.
Tour of IOJ's National Gallery of Jamaica
Sightsee along the Kingston Waterfront Stroll along Water Lane enjoying the gallery of street art and mural paintings. Pay a short visit to Kingston Craft Market located in the vicinity of the Waterfront. There are over one hundred shops on location. Kingston Craft Market is known for its brand Jamaica
The park is located in New Kingston and is themed “Tribute to Freedom” with a pair of 11 feet bronze statue, titled “Redemption Song”. It depicts a black man and woman looking towards the sky and is located at the south east entrance of the park. Embedded in the statue’s symbolic meaning is the triumph over the tragedies of slavery. West African spiritual symbols can be seen throughout the design of the park and the colorful tropical plants and flowers make for a relaxing day. It’s a symbol of hope and freedom to the Jamaican people.

Above and beyond toke the time to see every thing and more. Well worth your time
Marie was fabulous, she showed us around Kingston and Port Royal.
Tour with Marie was both educational and entertaining. Vehicle, service , places , guide everything was well arranged. Kingston Mural walk was my favorite part of the tour. She accommodated our vegetarian lunch request by taking us to veg place. She knows lot of local people and has tons of information about Kingston. Last but not the least, her enthusiasm and passion for Jamaica, made experience unique. I would highly recommend her tour.
Our cultural tour of Jamaica was one of the highlights of our trip! From start to finish, Marie and Donovan were engaging, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing Jamaica's incredible history, culture, and music. Exploring Port Royal and touring Fort Charles gave us a fascinating glimpse into Jamaica's rich colonial and maritime history. The admission fee for Fort Charles was $15 US per adult. We loved that the sites weren't overcrowded, making the experience feel relaxed and personal. Visiting Heroes' Square and emancipation park was equally inspiring as we learned about the remarkable individuals who helped shape the nation. One of our favorite parts of the day was exploring Old Kingston. The vibrant art murals brought the streets to life, telling stories through colorful, expressive artwork that reflected Jamaica's culture and heritage. We also loved experiencing the heartbeat of Jamaican music throughout the area. A special highlight was stopping at a charming vintage record shop, where we browsed classic reggae and ska albums while learning about the artists and sounds that helped shape Jamaica's worldwide musical influence. It was an authentic and memorable experience that music lovers will truly appreciate. Our visit to Grand Hotel Excelsior Port Royal was another enjoyable stop, where we experienced genuine Jamaican hospitality in a beautiful setting. Marie and Donovan's warmth, enthusiasm, and deep knowledge made every stop come alive. This tour perfectly blended history, art, music, and culture into an unforgettable experience. The tour is exactly as described by the company. The tour was approximately 6.5 hours. If you're looking to experience the true spirit of Jamaica beyond the beaches, we highly recommend this tour. Thank you, Marie and Donovan, for an amazing day!
The most amazing day. As a solo female traveler I was totally safe. I received the true Jamaican experience. They tailor your experience to you. 100% recommend. Owners are phenomenally kind and generous. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇯🇲😍
The driver and the guide were very friendly and helpful. Port Royal is very interesting and a lot of history. You should book a tour to go there because it’s far from the city and hard to find a taxi to get back to the city.
I was picked up at the hotel on time. We visited so many places in such a short time. Port Royal is a world heritage site with so much history. Devon House is a nice place for lunch. It was so great to see how the government transformed the downtown area with mural and art works. The tour manager Marie and our driver Donavan were excellent. They provided us so much knowledge and history about the city. This tour is perfect for anyone visiting Kingston but does not have a lot of time. I would highly recommend this tour.
Marie and Donovan provided a very memorable tour of Port Royal and also the Trench Town Ceramics and Arts Center. What stands out is how much they enjoy what they are doing and how attentive they are. I HIGHLY recommend them for any of their tours anyone might be interested in.
Great tailor made day tour. Marie and Donovan were very warm, attentive, and always ready to go above and beyond to make sure I made the most of my free day in Kingston: From Port Royal to Marley Museum passing by the exceptional mural in downtown:)
A wonderful experience! I would do it all over again. Marie and Donovan were very courteous, caring and willing to go the extra mile to ensure we got the most out of the day. To be frank, it felt as though we did a week's tour in the one and yet we did not feel rushed nor exhausted. Incredible!
A tour day with Marie and Donovan exploring Port Royal and downtown Kingston, including the Water Lane murals and the National Gallery, was so delightful! Well-organized and thoughtfully guided, I really came away from my tour with a better sense of Kingston, Jamaica and its culture and history. Port Royal and Fort Charles are lovely areas and the fort tour revealed much I did not know about seafaring in the Caribbean. Marie did an excellent job pointing out lots of tidbits and answering all my questions about the area. We walked and observed and I was grateful for Marie’s attention to my interests. I highly recommend this tour to everyone! Thank you, Marie and Donovan, for a wonderful tour!
If you are interested in history this is a good site to visit. An Uber or hotel driver is the best way to get there since they have their own guides on site, it isn’t worth using a tour guide. Small town close by. The church maybe worth a visit inside, though we didn’t have time that day.
We had a wonderful day exploring Port Royal and Fort Charles with Marie and Donovan! This place has such a rich history with the British military and the 1692 earthquake that created a sunken city. We enjoyed seeing the quaint fishing village it’s become - friendly locals. Goats and chickens run around the town. It was lovely touring with OneStop cultural tours - it’s like having local family members show you around! We stopped at an historic Grand hotel Excelsior where James Bond’s Dr No was filmed in 1962. Then Marie and Donovan took us to Zoo Lunch for some local authentic Jamaican food - delicious and so off the beaten path! Highly recommended and I must admit I enjoyed their nice air conditioned minivan!!
This was one of the best tour experiences I’ve ever had! Marie and Donovan took really good care of me during the trip. She reached out the day before and morning of to ensure I was prepared. I was the only guest for the day and she treated me to a few extra stops to indulge my interest (Heroes Park). I did the Port Royal Tour with stops at the National Gallery and the Craft Market. She was very knowledgeable about the history and had a great rapport with locals and staff in the area. Port Royal is a secret treasure! There’s so much history and culture to take in! The driver, Donovan was extremely courteous and engaging. The transportation was air conditioned and quite comfortable. I learned so much and the tour was so much more than I expected! They do this for the love of their culture and it really shows. I can’t say enough about the professionalism and generosity of Marie. She will be the only tour guide I hire when I come to Kingston! She offers many other tours and I can’t wait to come back and spend the day learning from her again! If you are lucky, she’ll take you to Jackie’s for lunch!
Donovan and Marie of One Stop cultural tours provided me with a memorable experience at Port Royal. I visited Fort Charles and the fishing village near by. By then Donovan and Marie felt like old friends to me, as I had used their services for 3 days. Their tours allowed me to see the real Jamaica. And all the beauty of Kingston, the Water Lane Murals and the new reggae museum and the Kingston Harbour just to name a few places. They provided affordable tours with Real Jamaican Hospitality! Well Done!!
I had one day to explore Kingston while visiting for business. I had the most amazing experience with Marie and Donovan! They were courteous, accommodating, and extremely professional! I was the only guest that day and they treated me to a few extra stops along the way since we had a bit more time. Port Royal is an underrated historic town. There is so much history to be seen! They were both very knowledgeable about Kingston and willing to indulge my questions. We stopped along the route for cold drinks, clean rest rooms, and some incredible food! This tour, by far, exceeded my expectations! Mostly due to the Marie and Donovan. I had a full day and experienced more of Kingston than I expected! Five stars for sure! We got off the beaten path and explored the real Kingston. I highly recommend this tour! They went above and beyond to make sure I had a great experience!
My experience with Marie was fantastic. She’s got this great mix of charisma, energy, and genuine passion that makes the whole tour feel easy and fun. We explored Port Royal—Charles Fort and the old Naval Cemetery—then headed downtown for real local food, grabbed coconut water on the road, checked out the National Gallery of Jamaica, and wandered past some amazing murals. We finished with Devon House ice cream and a stroll through Emancipation Park. Everyone we met was kind and welcoming, and with Marie leading the way, it was so easy to fall in love with Kingston.
Thanks a lot to Marie and Donovan who were great tour guide for this tour. I have learn a lot during this tour especially at Fort Charles and the Giddy House. Port Royal is such a beautiful place and an important historical landmark that you cannot miss if you coming to visit Kingston. Kingston has some hidden gems which worth taking time to visit with Marie. Forever Grateful to Marie and Donovan 💫
From the moment I set out with Donovan and Marie, the day felt like stepping into Jamaica’s living archive. Donovan—proudly Jamaican—and Marie—British with Jamaican heritage—are the kind of hosts who turn a good itinerary into a memorable experience. Warm, attentive, and wonderfully knowledgeable, they stitched stories into every stop and made me feel like a welcomed friend rather than a visitor. We began in Port Royal, once the bustling “Wickedest City,” where history still hums beneath the surface. At the Giddy House—the famously tilted relic—I laughed my way through the doorway as the slanted floor played tricks on my balance, a playful reminder of how earthquakes reshaped this coastline. Just beyond, the sunken city pulled the imagination seaward: remnants of streets and stories, a maritime palimpsest where each wave seems to reveal and conceal the past in equal measure. **Pirates & Fortifications** Port Royal’s swagger is inseparable from its age of buccaneers and privateers. Standing by the old ramparts and cannon lines, it’s easy to picture brigs and sloops crowding the harbor, and to hear the echoes of names like Henry Morgan carried on the wind. The fort’s weathered brickwork and squat turrets aren’t just picturesque—they’re a tangible reminder that this was once a maritime nerve center, balancing commerce, conflict, and a famously rowdy nightlife. Inside Fort Charles, a local guide walked me through the angled embrasures, the cannon lines, and the sightlines over the channel, bringing the seafaring defenses vividly to life. Meanwhile, Donovan and Marie waited for me outside the fort, coordinating the stop and ready with helpful context and next-step suggestions when I came out. **Everyday Life at Fort Charles (Mess Deck & Turrets)** Rather than focusing on facilities, my visit inside centered on the **mess deck**—the space where soldiers and officers would gather for meals, briefings, and a bit of camaraderie. Seeing that communal area anchors the fort’s story in daily routine: rations and orders below, cannon and turrets above. With the local guide’s explanations, the layout made sense—the circulation between mess spaces, barracks, stores, and the defensive positions—so the fort reads not only as a set of walls, but as a lived-in post. While I toured with the guide, Donovan and Marie waited outside, keeping everything on schedule and ready with the next moves. Back in Kingston, the Excelsior Hotel provided a comfortable pause—cool lobby, easy service, and a welcome breather between heritage sites. From my window, the view slid across Kingston Harbour toward the slender sweep of the Palisadoes, with water shifting from steel to sapphire as the light changed. It’s the sort of outlook that resets you: a quiet horizon framed by the harbor’s working rhythms and distant hills. Then we continued to Spanish Town, the former capital and a treasure for anyone who loves architecture and civic history. Emancipation Square unfolded like an open-air museum: stately facades framing a space that has witnessed centuries of ceremony and change. We paused by the Old King’s House site and at City Hall, where the city’s civic heartbeat still echoes through colonnades and courtyards. With Donovan guiding the route and Marie adding historical context, the monuments felt less like static landmarks and more like voices in conversation. What stood out most—beyond the beauty and gravity of these places—was the care from my hosts. Donovan’s easygoing patience and deep roots, paired with Marie’s thoughtful, inclusive perspective, created an atmosphere of generosity and respect. If you’re seeking Jamaica’s heritage in a way that is authentic, human, and deeply informative, a day with Donovan and Marie is the perfect path. I ended the day with a camera full of photos, a mind full of history, and a heart genuinely grateful for two exceptional hosts.
Very memorable trip. Marie and Donovan are such great hosts. It was beautiful to see relics of the historic earthquake and the old fort. The giddy house was also so much fun. This was such a fun excursion. Thank you Marie and Donovan!!!
If you're visiting Kingston and love history, the Port Royal tour with One Stop Cultural Tours Jamaica is an absolute must! From the moment we arrived, the experience was engaging and educational. Fort Charles, shaped like a ship, was an architectural highlight, and our tour guide was fantastic—super informative, friendly, and clearly passionate about sharing the rich history of the area. One of the most memorable parts of the tour was visiting the Giddy House. The way it leans from the 1907 earthquake gives a truly surreal, must-experience feeling; you’ll feel like you're losing your balance! Marie and Donovan, our hosts, were wonderful. They not only ensured everything ran smoothly but also pointed out other local gems in Port Royal, including the popular Gloria’s Restaurant and the new port development. Their insights added so much value to the day. What makes this tour even more special is that Port Royal is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Knowing you're standing in a place with such deep cultural and historical importance makes the experience all the more meaningful. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to connect with Jamaica’s heritage through storytelling, expert guiding, and a personal touch. Thank you, One Stop Cultural Tours Jamaica!
Marie is a fantastic tour guide and the right one to see the sights in Kingston with! Her enthusiasm for Jamaica is infectious. She clearly loves what she does and those she does it for! You can't go wrong with Marie and OneStop Cultural Tours!
This tour was a captivating journey into the real Jamaica. From the newly-declared UNESCO World Heritage site Port Royal’s pirate legends and the unforgettable Giddy House to the rich history and vibrant streets of Downtown Kingston, every stop was brought to life by Marie and Donovan's passion and deep knowledge. The personal stories, hidden history, and local flavors made it an experience you simply can’t get from a guidebook. A must-do for anyone wanting to truly understand Jamaica.
Big thanks to Marie and Donovan for this great day tour of Port Royal and Kingston! The two gave a great impression of Kingston and explained a lot about the country and people both on the drive and when exploring on foot. We were also able to adjust the program at short notice and visited the Bob Marley Museum. The two are super informative and totally uncomplicated. I like to book a tour with them again.
