Needed to get away last weekend and Port Royal was the only place I wanted to be so stayed here for the first time and went as a solo traveller. Exactly what I needed. Very relaxed pace, Rooms not luxury but comfortable and nice. Asked and got one with a mini fridge. Liked the gentle shower, the view and the convenient entry card. Complimentary breakfast is always a plus. The cons were - tv had nothing, salt mackerel was very salty, toilet seat not secure and though the AC was kicking which I loved, a blanket on the bed would have sufficed. Going to tief Yashema at the front desk for our villas if y'all don't treat her right. What a delightful and courteous young lady! Vivian in the dining room knew exactly how to approach and serve a single lad and took great care and the housekeeper for room 301 was so warm and inviting. So too the daytime security, the groundsman, female Chef and dining room staff. I was really impressed with the warmth of the staff and I've been in tourism going on 40 years. A delightful and we'll needed stay.

Me and my husband stayed here last week for a night because it’s very close the airport up on checking in my husband made a joke asking the receptionist if she has any lost room….she miss understood him by thinking he said lust room but instead of asking what he meant she took it upon her self to say they doesn’t have hourly rates only a flat rate I was so embarrassed to the fact that she thought we were looking for a room just for sexual pleasures casting judgement…..I’ve been in hospitality for many years until I’ve owned my own establishments and for a hotel like this no one should be embarrassed like that because of misunderstood words he does have an accent yes so if u don’t understand someone ask and not assume I hope my review finds someone that cares and will help improve on customer service
Grand Hotel Excelsior Port Royal is located in a beautiful setting with stunning views of the harbor and surrounding area. The location is definitely one of the property’s biggest strengths, and waking up to those views was a memorable part of our stay. The hotel itself is comfortable, and the staff were generally friendly and helpful. One suggestion would be to expand the vegetarian options on the menu. While there were some choices available, adding more dedicated vegetarian dishes would make the dining experience more enjoyable for guests with different dietary preferences. The main issue we experienced involved a late-night purchase of four bottles of water from the front desk around 2:00 AM. Instead of simply charging the purchase to our room and settling it at checkout, a staff member came to our room around 7:00 AM requesting payment. Since we didn’t have cash available, she later returned with a card machine approximately 20 minutes afterward. While we understand the need to process payment, being awakened multiple times early in the morning disrupted everyone’s sleep and created an uncomfortable experience that could have easily been handled at checkout. Despite this issue, the property’s excellent location and beautiful views made for an enjoyable stay overall. With a few service improvements and additional vegetarian menu options, the guest experience could be even better.
Our time at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Port Royal, was pleasant. For example, the housekeeping staff was very friendly and accommodating by catering for what we needed, such as providing coffee , milk and sugar, when asked to which we received the next morning. In my opinion these should have already been provided as a part of the room service before we arrived . Also throughout our four day stay, the rooms were not cleaned or tidied , having said that, one of the house keepers did ask if we needed anything such as a clean lining and loo roll. In room 202 there was a dripping leak from the ceiling, wetting the bathroom floor , this was reported to reception staff the day after we arrived( in the morning ),which was saturday 23rd May by sunday 24th May ,the ceiling got much worse, resulting in residues of cracked paint falling off the ceiling onto the bathroom floor, photograph evidence was shown to reception , which alerted the house keeping staff to contact her supervisor who offered me another room ,to me this defeats the object as a strict health and safety procedure should have been carried out prior to the guest arrival! This was only a tip of the iceberg! The food was appalling day in and , day out Jamaican hard food for breakfast( this is not conducive to the whole Jamaican population’s pallet, no thought went into the food preparations at all , the selection was very sparse , bland and boring , one of my daughters practically starved to death and dreaded breakfast because of this. I believe a hotel of the Grand Hotels' Excelsior caliber should have been well thought out, with a wider selection of food choices for example, continental( cereal, fruit, selection of bread, cakes, croissants and Jamaican food( there wasn't even any fried plantain!) Mealtime was equally excruciating , we waited over an hour for food, to be told that what we ordered wasn't available, so we had to wait again, one hour turned into two. Signs were not displayed in areas that were unsafe and prohibited! Overall once we voiced our opinions the staff and management was reassuring and understanding. Will we come back again, we’ll see! I look forward to hearing from you soon Kind regards Mrs Clayton
I was there recently with my husband. We love the hotel. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle of Kingston, the Grand Hotel Excelsior Port Royal is a hidden gem. The waterfront setting is absolutely breathtaking—there's nothing quite like having breakfast or dinner right by the sea at their restaurant while watching the boats. The rooms are spacious and clean, the food is delicious, and the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, making the stay feel like a home away from home. We highly recommend it for anyone wanting a quiet retreat with a touch of old-world charm. I cannot wait to go back!
