This is a decent walk through open and forested park. We learnt about the history, wildlife, and the trees along the way.

Itinerary
The cathedral was designed by Augustus Welby Pugin who came over to Killarney from London, and building commenced in 1842. During the great famine the unfinished building was used as a shelter for starving people who came in from the countryside. The lovely thatched cottage Deenagh Lodge which once served as a gate lodge is now a popular tea rooms during the summer months.
Queen Victoria was a visitor to this area back in 1861 arriving in Killarney by train, a new age travel as the railway first opened in Killarney in 1853. Sika deer were introduced to the area from Wicklow in 1865, and there is now a good number of them. The native red deer are a bigger attraction they came close to extinction but thankfully there now is a good size herd in the National Park.
The year 1969 was an exciting one as Charles De Gaulle spent nearly two weeks in a cottage nearby with a big security presence. The film Ryans Daughter was filmed in Dingle, but the love scene was done in the National Park. Not surprising as the scenery speaks for itself.
All the local guides have a great love of their home place, so you can be guaranteed an informative tour.

It was good hanging out with Thomas. He played Bodhran for me. I got to see a different part of the park and I enjoyed the conversation, but I don't think I learnt much. I think the tour can be improved by adding more information about history, native life, flora, fauna of the area.
Richard is a great storyteller, wonderful sense of humor, and very knowledgeable about the park and local history. Highly recommend spending a few hours with him.
Great experience and very good guide
I had an absolutely wonderful walk through the national park! I was the only person but my guide didn’t care and made sure I had a good time! As we walked he told me all about the history of the land and buildings we passed. It was all relatively flat land which made the two hour walk very easy and enjoyable.
A beautiful walk throughout the park. Richard was so kind and thoughtful and told us all about the river, trees, flowers, animals, and history.
Amazing walk with a local guide. We enjoyed the tour so much , and were happy to meet Richard who was born and always live on Killarney, so many interesting facts and stories. And Richard is very well rounded and nice person.
Richard was awesome! Such a kind and entertaining guy. Even though the weather was super rainy, he led me through the park and went to a lot of cool places. He was super knowledgeable about everything. Even afterwards, he took me to a GAA game and snuck me in so I was able to watch a few minutes! 110% recommend to anyone visiting Killarney.
Beautiful guided walk with Richard , he led us on a wonderful walk of the Killarney national park . Richard was very knowledgeable about the local area and we enjoyed a great chat whilst taking in the scenery.
Great time with Richard. I was the only to show up still a fantastic tour. Weather was bad but still saw some great sights.
Richard is a fantastic guide and walking companion, with a wealth of knowledge about the park, and local history of the town and its people. If you want an insight into Killarney I couldn't recommend this walk enough.
Wonderful 2-h walk in Killarney National Park, Richard is very knowledgeable and told us a lot of stories. Relaxing walk, good with kids.
This was a great way to explore the national park! The walk was relatively leisurely with only a few minor hills. Most was paved, but we did explore off the path a little. Our guide was born and raised in the area and the park was where he used to frequent as a child and all through this adulthood. We learned about the history and got to see some unique sites we would have missed on our own. We also enjoy the wildlife! We saw many deer and a type of cow that almost went extinct until being brought to the national park. One of the deer even almost came right up to us. It was just the right about of time but we loved seeing the beautiful sights from a trusted local!
You don't need a guide . You can walk the park without one. Saw a few cows but no deer. Very little communication along the way. Very pleasant guide.
Richard was a wonderful guide -- knowledgeable, humorous, and kind. We asked endless questions about the flora in Killarney National Park, and he patiently answered each one and gave us even more information than we knew to ask for! Our walk was blissful quietude, and we'll carry memories of fairies and Ireland with us always.
We loved our walk through the National Park with Richard. We were the only ones who booked the tour, so we were able to ask questions and learn about the history of the park/Killarney. Richard was a very capable guide who knew his way around the land. We were able to see stunning vistas and tons of red deer! I was sad to learn that the dog mentioned in some of the earlier reviews of this business has passed away, but the three humans did well on our own.
Richard and 16yo Dahi were superb guides. Even sang to me! Tour was in Irish but they translated for us. Lasted three hours. Gorgeous scenery. Need to be in good hiking shape. We got wet and muddy. Loved it!
Everyone in our group really enjoyed walking through the park and listening to Richard Clancy who grew up in Killarney. His passion for the area is quite evident. He even broke into a song that Johnny Cash wrote about Ireland “Forty Shades of Green”. We loved our time on the tour.
Very kind man Richard. I laughed a lot and enjoyed the accent. Very nice walk/hike. Saw more sere than I’ve ever seen before. Very relaxing
Richard took us on paths through Killarney national park that we wouldn't have found on our own. Saw deer, egrets, heron etc. and very few people. Recommend long pants and hiking shoes.
Richard was a very kind and knowledgeable tour guide with plenty of wit and humor along the way! I would highly recommend this tour for a relaxing walk through the park.
Richard is a fantastic guide It was a great tour of the Killarney national park I would recommend for anyone visiting Killarney to consider this tour
Michael was a knowledgeable, local guide who helped us to appreciate the history and beauty of the park. Would highly recommend.
Guide had an excellent knowledge of the plants and the history of the area; found it fascinating, agus bhí gaeilge iontach aige freisin.
I must admit that the tour failed to meet our expectations. It just felt like the guide had little to say. He answered our questions but not much more. Lack of enthusiasm unfortunately.
James was a great guide! He is so knowledgeable of local history and clearly loves the outdoors. It was an easy walk and we all enjoyed our time with him. He sang for us a few times and the words filled my heart and solidified my love or Ireland.
Our guide was a friendly person who knew his stuff and the national park on the back of his hand! We had a great walk in the park. He brought us to the best spots and we were lucky to spot some sika deer and even the highly elusive red deer! We are glad to have met him. Thank you for showing us around! :)
We took the flora and Fana walk through Killarney national Park with our guide. We would’ve appreciated more history of the park and of the area. Our guy did point out some of the vegetation, but we would’ve appreciated more flgeneral information about Irish culture and history, especially of the area.
This walking tour was fantastic! Richard was an amazing guide, so friendly and knowledgeable of the national park. The weather was perfect on the day we walked, which added to the overall experience. We saw quite a bit of wildlife and Richard taught us about some of the native plants (like garlic and mint) growing throughout the park. The walk was the perfect amount of time, not too little or too long, and we went at a great pace. The park also has a wonderful cafe at the entrance, at which we enjoyed some coffee, tea, and toasties afterwards! I would highly recommend Richard as a guide and taking this walk through the beautiful national park. One of the highlights of our trip to Ireland! Thanks Richard!
Amazing tour in the park, Richard was an extraordinary and friendly guide to the history and the gave us good explanations of everything. Lots of garlic in the way!!!
My guide, Mike, was very informative and friendly. The history of the park’s ownership, previous homesteads, present challenges ( with flourishing numbers of deer ) and so much more was included in the walk. I was taken to parts of the park which most self guided tourists do not go to which allowed for some spectacular views of the distant mountains. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
Richard was a most gracious host and tour guide, sharing stories, interesting facts, local recommendations, humor and of course - the beauty of Killarney National Park. We truly enjoyed our time with him.
My wife and I were the only participants when we met our guide for the day Thomas. A soft spoken man full of stories and an incredible set of talents ranging from story telling, to singing, to design. Thomas is a proper renaissance man, and it was an absolute delight to hear the real, historical and mythical stories of Killarney. He has an encyclopaedic memory and interests in a large range of topics, which meant that the 2 hr walk felt far too short. I would strongly recommend this walk to anyone reading this.
We absolutely LOVED this tour... a highlight of our trip to Ireland! The knowledge we learned from this guided tour on our first day truly set us up to thoroughly enjoy the rest of trip in Ireland. Our guide was so knowledgeable, truly kind and patient with all of our questions.....and was just a spectacular experience!
JAMES WAS THE BEST EVER. He was super sweet and so so knowledgeable. He sang songs and showed us the magic of Killarney.
Great walk through the national park and a wonderful guide! Richard was an excellent guide. Thank you!
We had a great time with Richard and spoke Irish for most of our walk. We learnt a lot about Killarney and we both reinvigorated our Irish over the 2+ hours and got some great pictures. Ana mhaith ar fad! Maith an fear!
Richard was an amazing tour guide. He knew so much of the history of the park. We walked through out the park meeting many of his local acquaintances, it was the best. He sang for us a Johnny Cash song about Ireland and his voice was amazing. We highly recommend this tour. Richard was a great ambassador for Ireland!
Amazing experience, Richard was a wonderful guide, incredibly knowledgeable and kind, could not recommend highly enough! No trip to Killarney is complete without taking this tour.
Our guide Richard toured the National Park with 28 students and 2 teachers. Since we are specialized in forestry, he was the perfect guide with his profound knowledge. He showed us everything that was of the essence and more ... and answered all of our questions with patience. He is the perfect guide for people who don't only want to enjoy the more than beautiful scenerey but also delve into the history of the National Park and its surroundings. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thank you so much - we could draw connections between Irish and Austrian forestry!
The guide was excellent. Told great stories and played several traditional Irish instruments. The owner of the tour company, Richard, seems a bit disorganized and not great at communicating. It unfortunately caused us to get only a one hour tour, pretty much on a paved trail in Killarney National park. Which we could have done on our own. The park is beautiful and is a don't miss.
We throughly enjoyed our guided walk through the Killarney National Park with Richard Clancy . He is so knowledgeable and personable , we didn’t want our walk to end. You will get to experience the splendor of Ireland off the beaten path. We even saw the rowing team!
My husband and I had a wonderful walk with Richard and would recommend it to all! He took us off the beaten track in the park and showed us beautiful views and scenery. He was very knowledgeable about the area, and gave us the space to ask questions. He also gave great recommendations on what to do with the remainder of our day and our time in Killarney.
I had a lovely time walking through the park learning bits about plants, animals, and the town. Guide was very friendly and seemed to know everyone we passed!
The walk was very pleasant, we were lucky with the weather and the views were amazing! Our guide Richard Clancy shared with us his backyard as he calls it, since he was born and raised in Killarney and led us along untrodden paths to have better views of deer and the lake. Very interesting tour and highly recommendable. And now as I promised Richard, a sort review in Serbian: Prijatna šetnja kroz park i do jezera. Uživali smo u predivnim pejzazima i čuli zanimljive priče iz Ricardovog detinjstva koje je proveo u Kilarniju i na jezeru. Nezaboravan doživljaj!
Relaxing and enjoyable guided walk in a beautiful park. James was fabulous! Lots of local knowledge and entertaining - enjoyed his Irish songs, too 😊
Our guide was Richard Clancy. We enjoyed the guided walk in Killarney National Park today. Richard definitely took us down trails we would never have noticed. The scenery and plant life was wonderful. Although we started a little late due to waiting for a no-show, Richard more than made up for it by extending the walk. Thanks so much!
Fantastic walk and immersion into local culture. Mike did a great job! Bring your most comfortable walking shoes! It was roughly 7 miles.
We had a wonderful walk with Richard in Killarney's National Park -- mixing history with learning about the flora and fauna of the park. It was like taking a relaxed walk with a friend -- with great conversation, recommendations on pubs and other place to visit in Killarney and beautiful views. Thank you Richard, we enjoyed meeting you and exploring some of the sites of the beautiful park.
I booked this tour spontaneously and didn't have very high expectations, but it turned out to be an amazing experience thanks to our guide Mike! He was just fantastic - super friendly and knowledgeable, and a true local. There was only one other person in the group (a female solo-traveler just like me) so it almost seemed like a private tour. Mike took "off the beaten path" quite literally and we saw some places that I never would've discovered on my own. It was by far the best walking tour I've ever done!
