One Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Tour

Writing I had an absolutely wonderful experience touring with Elysee\! He was so lovely, warm, and knowledgeable, and we had great conversations throughout the trip, especially about Rwanda’s rich history and culture. He was incredibly helpful and thoughtful, making sure I got everywhere I needed to be and offering fantastic recommendations for places to visit and things to see. The drive itself was beautiful, with gorgeous vistas along the way, and the lunch was absolutely delicious. And, of course, the gorilla tracking was an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience\! Elysee also took me shopping and helped me discover some lovely local spots. His kindness, knowledge, and genuine care made the whole experience that much more special. I couldn’t recommend him more highly if you’re visiting Rwanda. Thank you, Elysee!

This was a full day tour to see the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park and visit the Gorilla Guardians community. I was lucky enough for Afri Safaris to help me get a gorilla permit in a short period of time during my stay so I would be able to go. My driver was kind and took good care that we arrived safely and it was nice to have cold drinks and WiFi in the car. I highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience!

Our one-day gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda was truly the highlight of our trip! The hike was definitely challenging, with steep and muddy trails, but every step was worth it. We were incredibly lucky to visit the Susa gorilla family, and seeing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat was an unforgettable experience. Watching them interact so closely, especially the silverback calmly leading the family, was both exciting and humbling. It was a moment we'll never forget. A huge thank you to our guide, Elysee, who took great care of us throughout the day. He was friendly, professional, and made sure everything went smoothly from the early morning pickup to the drive back. His encouragement and thoughtful arrangements made the long day much more enjoyable. If you're visiting Rwanda, don't miss this incredible adventure. It's physically demanding, but the reward of meeting the mountain gorillas is beyond words. Highly recommended!

Outstanding on every level, the gorilla trek at Volcanoes National Park with AfriSafari is an excellent value. We enjoyed a private ride in a comfortable Toyota 4x4 with WiFi connectivity, recharge unit, refreshments. But the best part is the staff and the people who provided support, from planning, to transportation and the park rangers, trackers, spotters, and porters. Each one was friendly, attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. Our personal guide and driver Elysée offered insights along the way and by the end of the roughly 12 hour expedition, after great conversation and s few laughs, we can only say “urakoze cyane”thank you very very much. The field tracker and conservationist John also deserves kudos for his professionalism and wit, an excellent teacher and guide who provided us the tools (and the proper pronunciation) to communicate with our closest evolutionary cousins. The porters were patient and always there, as members of our small group (7) needed assistance with boots stuck in the mud, detached soles and other minor mishaps. This group is top notch and then there is the extraordinary encounter with the gorillas: we saw a newborn and several mothers with their infants and children as well as silverback leader of his group. We had a delicious hot lunch at an excellent local restaurant on the return, enjoying our meal as a team cleaned our boots. Needless to say we very highly recommend the tour and congratulate the organizers for jobs well done!

Gorilla trekking was truly a once in a lifetime adventure! Hiking through the rainforest and finally seeing the gorillas up close in their natural habitat was an emotional and unforgettable experience. The beauty of Rwanda, the fresh mountain air, and the warmth of the local people made the journey even more special. An amazing experience every traveler should have at least once.

We did the gorilla trekking and had an amazing time. We really appreciated the easy and clear communication with Afrisafari before, during and after the trekking. Our guide Elyse was very kind and made us feel safe and taken good care of. There was a problem with the car on the way back, but this was solved fast and both Elyse and the company handled the situation very well. I highly recommend Afrisafari, and Elyse!

It was a fantastic experience (shout out Ben). The gorillas were amazing! Communication was clear and they answered all my questions. They also sent an itinerary and a packing list well in advance. As a solo female traveller I felt comfortable.

Magical experiment. Everything in time and well organised. I was a bit sceptical spending so much money online with TripAdvisor but all went well. I guided Smet me a list of things I need made me panic a bit but didn’t need much really. You can rent all the gear.

Gorilla trekking adventure with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund was beyond amazing! From the early morning pickup and scenic drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park, to the unforgettable hike through the forest and coming face to face with a gorilla family, every moment felt surreal. The guides were deeply committed to conservation, and ensured a safe, enjoyable experience. Learning about Dian Fossey's legacy added depth and meaning to the journey. Truly a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed!

From the early-morning pickup to the ride back to Kigali, it was one of the best - if also wonderfully exhausting - days of my life! Truly a bucket-list activity to see the gorillas, and Afri Safaris made it better than I could have hoped. I was on my own, but not at all lonely. My driver was engaging and lovely to chat with. Their attention to my comfort and enjoyment was top of mind without being overbearing. Their partners in the tour were equally focused on making it a great experience. And seeing the gorillas was absolutely breath taking. Thank you for an unforgettable day!

A once in a lifetime experience. We were well taken care of from the start to the end of the trip. I would definitely recommend them.

First timers to Rwanda will be surprised when rules are respected, schedules are real, and promises are kept, but such was my amazing day with Afri Safaris. From Ben’s cheerful 4:30 am hotel pickup, a meander through the clouds and Rwanda’s forever hills at sunrise, watching folks on their way to market and worship, and his willing, informed, and candid exchange on culture and history, until he dropped me at the airport at 6 pm, this experience is as advertised and then some. This is bucket list material for most everyone, so it isn’t, and really shouldn’t be, cheap. Your guides remind you, sadly, the gorillas would not have the opportunity to recover to healthy populations without the local economic development driven by pretty high end tourism. Afri-safaris hit that high standard in everything from transport and securing permits to an excellent local lunch stop. Not so much luxurious as authentic and attentive, which hit right for me.

It is tough walking through the jungle, but the experience and the opportunity to be so close to the mountain gorillas is worth every step.

I had an amazing gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda, operated by Afri Safaris, they helped me with the paperwork and get the tourist permit for trekking. The tour was well organized and worth it, spending an hour with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat was my dream come true even if it was raining the experience was very enjoyable and one of the amazing experience in my life. The expchoachers village was very exciting and had a warm welcome. The safari vehicle was equipped with wi-fi, water and multiple chargers and lunch was very delicious. I can't recommend this tour enough!!!

I had a great time in Volcanoes National Park. Beyond my expectations in fact! Getting up close to mountain gorillas was an amazing experience of my life. The trip was very well organized and more than worth the price. My driver Kevin was knowledgeable, safe and took care of me. The cultural village worth the visit and the food was great. It was a great experience, from start to finish the service was excellent. We enjoyed the trip a lot. The vehicle was nice and our guide Kevin was very professional, kind and Knowledgeable, he picked up us early morning on time and explained to us everything we needed. What a magical experience! Ben picked me up at my hotel in the wee hours of the morning. The long drive allowed us to see Rwanda in all her different clothing: darkness, fog, sunshine, sunset, rain, rough terrain and smooth roads. Ben told me all about Rwandan history and geography on the way up to the park. I was lucky enough to be assigned to the second largest gorilla group with the largest silverback in the whole park. I was very nervous before the hike, but Ben did a good job of reassuring me. We hiked for about two hours uphill, and the guides did an excellent job supporting us through muddy sections. The time with the gorillas was indescribable. By the time we got back down the hill I was glowing with happiness. Ben and I stopped for lunch, and then sang songs the whole drive home. He did a great job of customizing the trip according to my interests and what we talked about. Even though I was traveling solo, I felt extremely safe the whole time I was in Rwanda, and during the whole trek.

Elese, the tour driver / guide made it a fabulous experience. He was polite, knowledgeable, and just wonderful . The facilities in the centre including the porters, mountain guide was just perfect

My friends and I had an outmost experience, as a first time traveler in Rwanda the reality exceeded my expectations, the service was very nice, the guide was friendly and the vehicle was very comfortable, the Gorilla trek was very fun and best experience in my life. After the gorilla tracking we visited the Cultural village I learnt a lot in a short time I spent there. The country is very beautiful, people are nice, I enjoyed the beautiful morning sunrise and mist on the way to Volcanoes Park, the landscapes and mountains are very interesting, the food was very delicious too, I learnt a lot about gorillas and their family groups. Afri Safaris helped us to secure a gorilla permit and our trip was all planned before our arrival, I would highly recommend it , looking forward to coming back.

This was the best experience in my life. We went on one-day gorilla trekking with my colleagues in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda organized for us by Afri Safaris. The itinerary was great and it provided us with an incredible experience. Afri Safaris team made everything easy for us. Harnish was the best driver guide and friendly, he picked us up from our hotel on the time and explained to us more about the tour and experience. Ben, the guide, was amazing! He had such a cool vibe, and the music in the car set the perfect mood. We even stopped along the way to take photos of the Volcanoes—so thoughtful! He made sure the trek to see the gorillas was easy and when we finally found them, it was truly a timeless, dreamlike moment. Afterward, we visited Iby’Iwacu village, where we received the warmest welcome and experienced a glimpse of traditional life—it was such a unique and enjoyable experience. To top it all off, we had lunch at a local restaurant, and the day ended with a joyful ride back to Kigali. I highly recommend this experience!

Since I was young I've wanted to see mountain gorillas face to face in Rwanda but I had no information about planning a visit. I needed to see mountain gorillas but I didn't know where to start so I saw Afri Safaris on TripAdvisor and I decided to book a gorilla trekking tour with them since then my dream was coming true I really got an excellent service from Afri Safaris team they helped me to plan my tour and get a gorilla permit everything went accordingly. My driver guide picked me up on the time. He was friendly and knowledgeable. I had given a family group called Kwitonda It was a dream come true for being able to see gentle giants and peaceful creatures in The Volcanoes National Park. Mountain gorillas are really majestic creatures. The experience at the Cultural village was amazing! Couldn't recommend Afri Safaris highly enough
