Full Day Akagera National Park Game Drive And Boat Safari

Our experience in Rwanda was supper memorable our guide was very knowledgeable and punctual We did Kigali city tour and enjoyed akavura national park for two days!

I would not recommend booking with Huza. I spend a significant amount of time in East Africa and have been on more than 10 safaris, so I have a reasonable sense of what to ask when booking and what to expect from a safari operator. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing tour experiences I’ve had. My initial conversations with Huza were pleasant. I was planning a short overnight trip to Akagera with my three-year-old, who has been on safari before. I was very specific that, because I was traveling with a young child, I wanted to break the trip into manageable pieces: an evening boat ride, an early morning game drive, a break for breakfast, and then another shorter drive before returning to Kigali relatively early in the afternoon. I also asked for photos of the safari vehicle in advance to make sure I could safely install her car seat. Huza seemed completely accommodating of these requests, which is why I booked with them. Unfortunately, almost none of this went according to plan. On the day of departure, our guide called just 15 minutes before our scheduled pickup to say he was running late returning from another trip and would send another driver. My daughter and I then waited outside for more than an hour. I called the original guide and specifically raised my concern that the delay meant we would miss our scheduled boat ride. I asked whether we should simply cancel the trip. He assured me that we would make the boat. When the replacement driver finally arrived, he was in a different vehicle from the one I had been shown, with only a lap belt, not ideal when you have specifically discussed installing a child’s car seat. We left anyway. It was immediately apparent from Google Maps that we were unlikely to arrive in time, but the driver repeatedly told me he was calling ahead and that the boat would wait for us. We then stopped for gas, followed about 15 minutes later by another stop so the driver could use the restroom. Eventually, he acknowledged that we would not make the boat and instead drove us directly to our hotel. The following day was equally frustrating. Rather than following the itinerary we had specifically planned around a three-year-old - multiple shorter outings with breaks -the driver decided that the best way to “make up” for the missed boat ride was to try to show us the entire park. That meant essentially spending the day in the car. Anyone who has traveled with a three-year-old can appreciate why 10 straight hours in a safari vehicle was exactly what I had been trying to avoid when I carefully arranged the itinerary in advance. We did see some wildlife, but I also would temper expectations about Akagera itself. Compared with other safari destinations I’ve visited in East and Southern Africa, I found the animal density quite low and there was a tremendous amount of driving between sightings. For someone’s first safari, particularly if Rwanda is already part of the itinerary, it may still be worthwhile. For an experienced safari traveler, I would choose another destination. I contacted Huza afterward and requested a partial refund, which I thought was reasonable given that we missed a major component of the itinerary and much of the trip we had specifically arranged was not delivered. They refused. Instead, they offered me a discount if I returned to Rwanda and booked another trip with them. After this experience, I certainly will not be doing that. The most disappointing part was not simply missing the boat ride - travel delays and logistical problems happen. It was that I had communicated our needs very clearly in advance, was assured repeatedly that they could accommodate them, and was then given inaccurate assurances when things began going wrong rather than an honest assessment or a reasonable attempt to rectify the situation afterward.

We had Akagera national Park with Olivier from Huza Gateway! We enjoyed the trip From Kigali to Akagera National Park and we never felt bored and we enjoyed his knowledge about Rwanda and the Akagera National Park! We were blessed to spot all big 5 including Leopard 🥰 it was my first time to see it and I felt to go out and hug that big cut , ha ha !! Just Joke we had peacefully trip for we were already paid in advance and Enock did everything even before we landed in Rwanda! Later on Enock took is to Uganda for 4 days! I had an amazing time in Akagera, our guide JP helped us spot so many animals! We saw hippos, elephants, zebras, rhino, giraffes, and a lion. It was a great experience and everything was planned very well. We were in Akagera for one night and were picked up and dropped off in Kigali. The sunset boat tour was also a great time to spot animals in the water and see lots of birds. I recommend this trip to anyone who wants a great safari.

Just coming back to share that I did a second tour of Akagera with Huza Gateway with guide Jean Paul and it was amazing! My first visit, we did a two night stay, and this time we did 1 night. Both are good options. With the two-night stay, we had time to enjoy the hotel and use the pool. But with the one-night stay, we had the opportunity to exit from the North gate to go back to Kigali. Although I live in Kigali, I enjoy not having to drive to Akagera myself so it was great to get picked up and dropped back off in town.

We were about to make a big mistake of choosing not Huza Gateway for our trip to Rwanda and Uganda, from Kigali city Tour and Akagera national park was supper amazing, Enock dropped us to our hotel in the Akagera National Park then spent a night there and since we had enough time we had our sunset boat ride at the evening after checking in at Akagera Game Lodge which was also amazing hotel, especially their view, rooms and their food, next day our driver guide took us from the hotel and started the game drive which was supper amazing, our Guide Bosco was familiar to the park and we saw so many animals including big4, i am sure anyone knows what we missed and i will probably comeback to find that big Cat Huza Gateway Team helped i every step of our trip plan and we made our payment early to avoid last minute stress and Enock and His team did all for Us we Highly recommend this Company for the any experience in Rwanda and even East Africa

I cannot recommend this combination of Wildlife experiences in Akagera highly enough. Not only did we receive incredible service from Enoch and his Team but we truly saw every animal we wanted to - and from really close, too. Brilliant service in advance, during and after our tour. Picked up from our hotel on time. Car had a really great guide who was very knowledgeable and worked hard to find the animals. We had an amazing lion sighting. Loads of giraffe as well which we loved. We didn’t see all the big five but that’s just one of those things but we saw so many different animals and birds. They also arranged for us to have a short stop at a hotel to freshen up as we went straight from the game drive to the airport for our departure flight which was so thoughtful and very welcomed after a full day in the bush.
