The staff were all incredibly welcoming and friendly. The hotel and the room are very clean and tidy. The bed was very firm, the rooms are dated. The shower takes about 5 minutes to heat up, and even then it is not very hot with low pressure. There is a bit of noise pollution coming through the windows/doors. The location is great. The history behind the hotel also makes it a great stay. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of options

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a wonderful experience at Hotel des Mille Collines. The hotel offers excellent service, comfortable rooms, and a beautiful atmosphere. The staff are professional, friendly, and always willing to assist. The facilities are well maintained, and the overall experience was relaxing and enjoyable. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kigali.
How fabulous was the buffet lunch by the pool in the garden. Such a great selection and everything I chose to eat was delicious. My lovely waiter Jules took great care of me from bringing a hot washer to clean my hands prior to eating and assisting with my food choices to serving me, my African tea. Thank you Jules! I enjoyed the nice music and the garden setting with glimpses of the city of Kigali.
I visited this hotel for a meeting with a friend, but the experience clearly exceeded expectations. The place offers more than just accommodation; it delivers a complete visual experience, with artworks and antiques thoughtfully integrated, reflecting a refined taste and a strong identity. What stands out is not only the quality of the design, but how art is seamlessly embedded into the space, becoming part of the daily experience rather than just decorative elements. This level of detail is rare and reflects a deep understanding of the role of art in shaping the overall atmosphere. As an artist and director of Syrian Arts Gallery in Kigali, I appreciate this kind of approach that treats art as a fundamental element in defining a place’s identity. A place worth visiting, especially for those who value art, design, and the overall spatial experience.
We stayed at Des Milles Collines in early January 2026. We had watched the amazing movie Hotel Rwanda and seeing we had a three night stopover in Kigali, en route to South Africa, we decided to stay at this very famous hotel. On entering the hotel grounds, we found the building slightly underwhelming. I'm not sure what we expected, but this could easily have been a Holiday Inn. The reception was very impressive and service was top notch, but our room was slightly dated, although very clean. The Rwandan people were wonderful. They were friendly and kind and we felt very safe and this friendliness and good nature was evident in all the staff at Des Milles Collines. The grounds were green, impeccable and stunning and a good sized swimming pool made us very happy with our hotel choice. Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and varied, with something for everyone and once again, the staff were an absolute joy. We ate in the hotel restaurant on a couple of occasions and the food quality was good and the prices reasonable. Judging simply on the hotel and the value for money, we would give this 4 out of 5, but the sheer attitude and enthusiasm of the staff tipped it over to a full 5.
