Johnny made everything easy and provided great instructions on awesome places for us to explore and told us what to expect
Really enjoyed getting to do the experience without a large group - and at our own pace. The boards are fun and the river is mostly low traffic. The hike to the waterfall was slightly crowded, but mostly nice and a unique activity for the island. Alternated between standing and kneeling on the board due to wind, but both worked well. One note of caution. We're both decently fit (30's/40's) and had a VERY hard time on one section due to the strong winds. Literally pushing us backwards for a few minutes. The river doesn't really have edges to stop for a break, and you'll have to power through it. Kayaks were gliding easily at the same time, so if you have hesitations, go that route. Also, beware the tour boats, the wake is pretty intense and about dumped me off when standing.
Beautiful views and fun activity. Just be ready for the paddle back upstream and upwind. Also, don't stand on the paddle board when the barge comes by and leaves a wake. Unless, you want to take a little refreshing dip in the river :) Very friendly help at the office too!
This experience was perfect for my husband and I. We saw groups of people with tour guides. It’s a waste to pay someone for this experience since you can’t hear them on the water, they can’t paddle for you, and all they’re doing is wrangling people. My husband and I really enjoyed our solo to trip to the not-at-all “secret falls”. We took our time. We saw plenty of small children and older adults on the walk. It was not a challenging hike, but make sure at least one person on each paddle board can actually paddle. Oddly enough, going upstream was easy and downstream was challenging due to the winds. If you go early in the day, some of that can be avoided. The only slightly annoying bit was the parking lots where we unloaded our paddle boards charged BOTH for car parking AND a per person launching fee for using their dock. Ridiculous. You cannot leave things save the parking fee by having a party member drop you and walk back. Good luck finding street parking though (bring CASH for fees).
Checking in with the worker was easy and the set up was fast. We appreciated the detailed directions on where to go for our experience.
Great experience. Location is very close to the river. Quick and helpful getting the SUPs ready to go. Secret Falls is beautiful. Would definitely visit the shop and falls again!
What a fun day. Soany people did the kayaks and were complaining about there backs hurting. We were so glad we did the paddle boards. The river is calm accept when the boats go by and you can totally sit or kneel when they go by. Just when you get tired you are there and ready for the hike to the incredible falls. Our family consisted of myself, my husband and our three daughters 18, 15 and 12.
We paddle boarded out and back. The return trip was harder due to wind but still totally doable. If you’re unsure the kayaks are easier.
Such a great experience! This ended up being one of our favorite parts of our trip!
Great experience. Employee super helpful, and they provide foam and straps to attach to car. Just a heads up tho, if you plan to do Wailua River to Secret Falls, there is an admission fee for the state park ($10 per vehicle and $5 per person). Boards were a little beat up, but it's a rental so it's to be expected. Did not affect how the board floated and moved. Rental was for all day, but river only took us about 4 hours, give or take. River moves very slow though, so be prepared to paddle the entire time as there is not a noticeable current either direction. 10/10 experience though.
The most relaxed way to do the secret falls trail. The trail is amazing beautiful and fun, and the river section is a bit more challenging on a paddle board, but with the extra space and ability to stand up its a more relaxed and chill experience. I highly recommend
It was amazing and easy to navigate to the waterfall. If you are in shape I recommend paddle boards because kayak tours have so many slow people you’ll have to wait for on the tour. If your teenagers like to swim they can jump off whenever! So much fun!
This was a really fun experience. You travel the Waialua River to a beautiful landing spot where you get out and hike to Secret Falls. We enjoyed that it was a self guided tour so we could go at our own pace! We are pretty avid hikers from Utah and this was one of our favorite hikes of all time! Make sure you bring plenty of water at least two bottle per person. Also we strongly recommend some good hiking shoes or hiking sandals the trail gets pretty muddy and you do cross the river a couple of times. It will take you every bit of 4 hours to make this trip up, hike, and come back. I would recommend trying to do this first thing in the morning as parking is a little difficult. We fortunately did not have e to wait on long but it it is possible you will be waiting for a while depending on when people go up. The lot is small. Also parking (when we went 4/3/26) was $5 per person. When paddling to the hike you are going with the current is it is a little easier than coming out. We also had the wind kick up which made coming out even tricker. The SUP company was awesome they made sure we knew how to load the paddle boards and exactly were to go. They were very friendly and helpful!
This was so fun-from the beginning to the end this was a fabulous adventure and the owner of the beautiful shop is super nice. Kids called it the best day ever! I loved how uncomplicated and flexible it was
River is calm. There were quite a few people on the river and trail. Scenery is beautiful and lush. The waterfall itself is not the biggest but still quite nice. Of course that is coming from a spoiled perspective as we come from an area with many large beautiful falls. Boards were a little worn and could use new bungees but worked well. All in all a fairly good time with beautiful scenery.
Charged for 2 and then they cancelled on us and didn’t refund both and now it is impossible to get ahold of anyone at all. Phone number doesn’t work, chat doesn’t work and no email.
This experience was simply the best for outdoor adventure people. The river was perfect temperature in February, with the lush forest trees. A bit muddy in places but overall so much fun! We also loved that this was on your own pace! We took a bag lunch to the waterfall and enjoyed a peaceful lunch after the 1st part of the paddle and hike. 100% recommend this. Additionally, I did this 6 months pregnant with ease!
This is a wonderful experience for an adventurous and physically prepared family/group. The self guided SUPs are super fun but definitely challenging. The hike is very muddy and having proper shoes (river shoes) is best. Towels, eye protection and snacks will make everything delightful! I felt like it was a great work out and worth it!!!
We went to the secret waterfall and it was ….a lot of work. Bring snacks and wear Trex as you will be hiking in mud, slippery rocks, water and rough terrain with a little itty bit of rock climbing. It’s a total of 4 miles of paddling boarding and 1 hour of hiking. You will be hungry and thirsty so plan accordingly. However the rental place makes it easy to load and unload. Launching site is close by with parking. Would rent again from them.
This was a great adventure! We started by picking up our SUPs at the shop's location which is a very short drive to the boat launch where your journey begins. The guy secured the boards on top of our car rental and gave us clear instructions on where to put it, which side of the river to stay on, and how to get there. We paddled about 45mins going up the river til we got to the spot where you leave your board. The drop spot is super obvious because there were a ton of boards and kayaks already there. The trail is not so obvious. It's not marked very well because the path has overgrown foliage. You will be walking through some water, so west appropriate footwear. My husband tried to stay dry in athletic shoes. It didn't work so well for him. He kept having to take his shoes off and on. Walking in the water barefoot is rough because of all the rocks along the bottom. A couple of times we asked other hikers where the trail heading the waterfall was just to assure ourselves we were on the correct path. The hike is fairly short. About 30 minutes I would say. It was well worth it. A beautiful, serene waterfall awaits you at the end. Make sure you take plenty of water because we needed more than we thought we would. We picked up our boards around noon and turned them in around 4:30pm. You can definitely make the trip longer if you like. This was the 2nd excursion we did this day, so we were to get back a little quicker. Paddling back to the boat ramp took a little longer because the wind is blowing against you.
It’s very easy to pick up your board and get on the water. I didn’t catch the person helping me, name, but he was from New Zealand and he was extremely kind and helpful, with directions, getting the board on and off, and just overall friendly
Bring plenty of water. It's not extremely physically demanding but the trip to the waterfall and back is time consuming.
Amazing experience! Loved it! They were great with accommodating us. Make sure to arrive early to get paddle boards (before noon) so you have enough time to go to waterfalls.
It was very easy to pick up the paddle boards, they help you load the boards on your car and walk you through the path you'll go on. The shop is super close to where you launch the boards so it was just super easy.
We paddle boarded to secret falls hike. It was a great day. The people renting the paddle boards were nice but not extremely helpful. We rented 4 boards - the boards were VERY well used. only 1 of the boards had good bands on them to hold a water bottle or our shoes or anything. We had a toyota tacoma truck we transporting the boards in. The guy helped my 19 year old son put the boards into the bed of the truck and then gave him the tie downs and said you know how to use these. He said yes and then the guy left us to strap in everything by ourselves. When we arrived back he did come out and help unload the boards. We enjoyed our trip and the boarding experience. The price was good but quality could be better.
We had such a fun experience paddle boarding and hiking to Secret Falls. The river was smooth with a slightly more challenging return ride going against the wind. The falls was a blast— everyone had fun cooling off. The directions and help at the store were amazing— the staff was very friendly.
Very helpful staff. They got us everything we needed and provided good directions on parking and the route
Good adventure good little hike waterfall was a little rocky but waterfall beautiful dukes stand up paddle was nice easy directions good guy
Awesome time, we had a Chevy Malibu and the employee helped us mount them and get on our way. Great experience, will go again.
Super easy pick up, he helped load our boards and was very friendly and helpful! We got a map with where to go and he even let us use his bathroom.
The river on paddle boards is easy and it’s nice to go at your own pace. We expected Secret Falls to be a bit more. The journey on foot is not for the faint of heart. The very nice man at the shop who helped us load and unload was such a nice part of the experience.
Great place to rent SUP to take to Wailua River and hike to Secret Falls. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Great instructions. If you want to do this self guided, highly recommend!!
So much fun! We did the paddle board river trip to the secret falls , super easy pick up a great map and directions and help putting boards on our car thanks to Morgan!
Amazing experience - Ajje was amazing helping explain everything and how to load the birds on the car. Will absolutely do this again when I come back!
Jungle solitude Rare experience Absolutely would recreate Kaua’i SUP staff where awesome and humble!
This is a wonderful activity if you are fit. Our family is very active and fit and it was a serious workout for all of us. The scenery was gorgeous—it’s like a dream. Once you’ve paddled for about an hour, you’ll arrive at a lovely jungle where you will hike about hour-hour and a half (coming back is much faster, it’s uphill on the way there). The waterfall is stunning and you’ll get lots of great pictures. Then you hike back and paddle home. Kayaking is easier and there were tour boats if you just want to hike. Things to bring: A wet bag for snacks and sunscreen. It’s a long day and you’ll need both. Water shoes with a thicker sole or tennis shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We didn’t have proper shoes and it was a slippery- muddy-barefoot fest. This truly was one of my favorite experiences in HI and Dukes Paddle Boards was laidback helpful and so, so nice. Shout out to Morgan for all of her help and advice.
The gentlemen that helped get the SUP was awesome! Super helpful and so friendly. The board were easy to use, load/unload from our car. So great. One of the best activities you could do! We spent 6+ hours in the water!
Justin was a huge help and very friendly! He loaded 5 paddleboards on top of our rental SUV and the launch spot was less than a mile away.
The views were spectacular. The hike was awesome It was a little muddy due to being the rainy season, but we all had the proper shoes which made it easy. The waterfall was spectacular, but be prepared for paddle back was definitely testing.
Great experience. The gentleman running the store was extremely helpful and friendly. As mentioned in other reviews: you will need a vehicle to get the boards to the launching location. We had four stacked on top of our vehicle, which got a bit high, but was still manageable. The river current is very mild. On the way back there is some wind. It was not strong on the day we went but it does slow you down if you are standing. If you find it to be challenging, sit on the board and you will go much faster. The hike is easy with the exception of some patches near the waterfall where you have to step from rock to rock near the river then climb one muddy, steep bit. Other than that, it's easy and you just need to look out for the occasional root or rock. When you arrive at the shore near the trail, don't make the mistake we made and enter the path near the metal signs warning of flooding and other dangers. There is a path there, but it's very narrow and you will be pushing through tall grass. It will get you to the waterfall, but you will have to make two river crossings. The first one is shallow but the rocks are very slippery. The second one is deeper (about 3 feet deep). After that you will join the main path to the waterfall. You should instead follow the beach at the landing spot until you see an (unmarked trail) instead. That trail is easier to follow and you only have one river crossing. It's longer, but much more shallow and easier to navigate. You get the boards for the whole day, so take your time. We did not visit the fern grotto or the swimming hole and it took us about 5 hours to complete. If you go on a weekend, there are no guided tour groups (SUPs and kayaks) to compete with. This makes it less likely that you will run into any congestion or randos bumping your board.
The secret waterfall. So worth the hike. Really must tell everyone to bring the proper shoes though.
This is simply a paddle board rental with a copy of a paper map. There is no guide, no tour, nothing. You are responsible for getting the board in and out of the water and back on your vehicle. It is a very long track to the falls, large boats go by you creating a wake, the water is not clear… I wish I had known this is simply a paddle board rental and we can take the boards for the day anywhere we want.
Fun experience and adventure. Was a workout but a pleasant one! The rental person was friendly and helpful to instruct how to navigate the river and the hiking trail. He loaded up the paddle boards, instructed us on how to do it after, gave us paddles and dry bags. This was one of our top experiences on Kauai! Tip: go earlier to avoid the winds coming off the ocean on the return paddle. Wear water shoes with good grip as the trail is slick with mud in spots.
If you have little ones, take them on your board! They’ll need the help in the way back. Overall great experience and the waterfall was amazing!
Great experience for the entire family! People were friendly and helpful. They helped load and unload paddle boards
Great experience. We rented two stand up boards. Were givin instructions on where to drive, park, paddle. Very clear instructions. Givin everything we needed. Dry bag, foams for tying the boards down, straps. We had an awesome time, 10/10 we’d do it again!
I cant rate KauaiSUP high enough! They were fantastic from the very start. The girl who helped us from the start was extremely helpful and charming. She explained everything well, and helped us load everything. We felt extremely confident with every step. The waterfall was beautiful and inspired. We ran into a medical issue with one of our party which caused us to leave a paddle board behind - KauaiSUP was EXTREMELY flexible, helpful and understanding. If you are in Kauai, this is the only place to rent from.
Our disappointment with the service I received at Kauai SUP on July 10, 2024. My experience was unfortunately marred by the unprofessional and rude behavior of one of the staff. On July 9th, I called your establishment and spoke with a friendly lady who informed me that booking directly through you would cost $60 per paddleboard. Based on this information, my group of four decided to rent from your company. However, when we arrived the next morning, we were greeted by a male employee (with a "surfer dude" appearance) who informed us that the cost was $62 per board. When I politely mentioned the price I was quoted over the phone, his response was abrupt and discourteous: "That's not my problem!" This rude response shocked my entire group. The employee's unprofessional behavior continued when he aggressively solicited tips by placing the tip jar extremely close to my face while I was paying. Later, as we were leaving with our boards, he loudly called out, "Tips are appreciated!" despite our assurance that we would consider tipping upon returning the equipment (when he does not deserve any tip at all!) This type of behavior is unacceptable. Not only was there a discrepancy in the quoted price, but the employee's attitude was confrontational and made us feel unwelcome. The paddle-boarding self-guided tour was great! The rude surfer dude's behavior was not.
It was beautiful. Relaxing on the way out, but A LOT of work coming back with the wind. Still a wonderful experience!
