Private Kauaʻi Helicopter Experience: Doors-off All Window Seats

Mauna Loa No Door Helicopter tour was totally AMAZING! We did it on our first day and it helped us get the lay of the land. I was nervous at first about no doors but wouldn’t do it another way. We took advice and wore windbreakers, jeans, sneakers and put hair up. Glad we did. Made us more comfortable. We loved every second and didn’t want it to end. I will book again if we go back. Stunning views and Walt, our pilot, told us everything we were seeing. Waterfalls, beaches, dolphin pods, Nepali Coast, rainbows, misty clouds. Stunning!

Cannot give my review as my flight got cancelled the last second, we were ready to do it and suddenly the captain cancelled, due to weather conditions

Our flight guide Mochi was AMAZING! Not only is he an experienced pilot but he was excellent tour guide as we traveled the island. It was such a great treat to be guided by a local who has real knowledge of the island. Would 100% recommend.

Directions were clear and communication was excellent. Our pilot, Micha was fantastic. Clearly communicated all the safety procedure, when to stay silent, and pointed out important places along the way. The off door experience was above any tour we’ve taken in 40 years. I would suggest a light long sleeve shirt and jacket. It got a little cool, but not cold. We would take this tour again hands down. We would give it 10 stars if there was that option!!

This helicopter tour was amazing and the employee's; check in person and pilot Lorenzo made the trip awesome. I highly recommend doing the tour with doors off because you can see more. We did the 1 hour Private Oahu 2 very important people Experience which costed $790.00 I would recommend this business to everyone!

Great experience! Our pilot, Walt, was informative, friendly, and most importantly a great pilot! We especially liked that it was a private tour - only the 2 of us. It was the first time I did an open door helicopter tour and I was thrilled with the experience. Totally unobstructed views of the island for both of us. No middle passengers! Equipment was outstanding for ear protection and talking to our guide. A must do experience with Mauna Lao!

Our trip was canceled at the last minute due to weather. We were scheduled to leave end of the next day and they couldn’t fit us in and simply said sorry good luck. Seemed a bit inconsiderate because we were unable to get another doors off helicopter tour. Feels like they should have been able to move flights around to make it work somehow.

Very knowledgeable and cautious pilot who showed us the most he could given the weather forecast. We saw all 3 active volcanoes and their lava flows, as well as the beautiful beaches and other points of interest along the Kohala coast.

My wife and I had a blast! Private chopper flight in Kauai is the way to go. Our pilot, Matt, was a good young man, took us to sights we would not have been able to see on our own, and gave us good info as he circled/hovered around the interesting points. They also provided a phone holder for your phone during flight. We took some memorable photos and videos. It wasn’t cheap but soooo worth it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I can highly recommend a flight like that. It is an absolutely unique experience—especially on Kauai. The scenery is stunning; there is no other way to experience it quite like this. The price is high, admittedly, but we flew for a full hour, so it is definitely justified. You really have the flight all to yourself or your loved ones—no other passengers. That was one of the reasons I chose to fly with this company. Everyone had a window seat, and no one had to squeeze into a middle seat. The pilot was really nice and kept explaining where we were and what was special about the place. The booking process was super easy and very friendly. Flying without doors is absolutely amazing. It’s really windy, but I loved the feeling of sensing everything, and the photos turn out much better than they do from behind glass. My family and I won't soon forget this experience. It was unique!

Excellent tour - our pilot was Lance who was a fantastic pilot and tour guide. Lance highlighted all the history and environment of big island of Hawaii. We really enjoyed it and would thoroughly recommend anyone thinking about a helicopter tour or a tour to consider Mauna Loa helicopters as a great way to explore the big island and see all the sites and sounds in an efficient manner with a great company and great tour guide.

I honestly don’t know if there are words to describe how incredible this doors off helicopter tour was. Even the pictures and videos don’t come close to capturing what it feels like to actually be up there experiencing it. It was absolutely breathtaking, exciting, beautiful, and so much fun. Seeing Kauaʻi from the air with the doors off was unlike anything I have ever experienced. It was easily one of the biggest highlights of our entire trip to Hawaii, and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to do it. Our pilot was a wonderful young woman, and I wish I could remember her name because she deserves to be recognized. She did an exceptional job making us feel safe and comfortable from beginning to end. I never felt uneasy, which allowed me to relax and take in just how spectacular everything was. I also cannot say enough good things about the company. From the moment we arrived, everything was easy. Check in was simple, the staff was wonderful, everything was well organized, and the entire experience went so smoothly. This tour was worth every penny. If you are looking at it and thinking about booking but you’re on the fence, DO IT. You will not regret it! The pictures simply cannot do it justice. You have to experience it for yourself. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It was an experience of a lifetime and a memory from Hawaii that I will treasure forever. 🚁

Staff were friendly and inviting. The tour was spectacular. A great combination of exhilaration of flying in a helicopter with the doors off, scenery that must be seen to be believed, learning about history and geological formations. The lush green landscape carved by rivers and waterfalls contrasted with the blue of the ocean and the brown of the Waimea canyon left me in awe. The initial lift off the ground was such a rush.

We got a call when we pulled into the parking lot at the time we were supposed to be there saying it was canceled due to weather. It cost me $45 in taxi fare which I feel I should be reimbursed for. They should not have waited so long to notify me about the cancellation. There were other helicopters flying all day. Really disappointed in the poor service.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! DO NOT BOOK! We are coming from extremely far away and booked this tour far in advance. We arrived 1.5 hours early, checked in, watched the safety video, signed our waivers, and within several minutes, our tour was cancelled. The pilot came in, looking tired and the receptionists kept complaining that they prayed for rain to go home. They looked extremely lazy and were highly unprofessional. They claimed it wasn’t safe for us to fly. The worst part is that within 10-15 minutes, they were flying several other passengers. We had asked several times to rebook and they put 0 effort into checking. They did not even move from their seats to contact management or support. It is our last available day and we wasted our entire vacation day searching for a replacement company and got nothing. Do not book unless you’re looking to get terrible service and a possible cancellation with no real reason, but probably them wanting to go home early. They cared more about their Uber Eats being delivered than assisting customers. Absolutely terrible and will continue to spread the word.

This was hands down one of the most incredible experiences of our entire Hawaii trip! Taking a private doors-off helicopter tour of Kauai is something we’ll never forget. Seeing Kauai from the air gives you a completely different appreciation for just how beautiful this island really is. We flew over the lush green valleys, dramatic mountains, countless waterfalls, and the spectacular Nā Pali Coast. Seeing Jurassic Falls from the air was especially awesome! The doors-off experience took it to another level. There was nothing between us and those incredible views, which made the flight feel even more exciting and immersive. Being able to look straight down into the valleys and waterfalls and out across the coastline was breathtaking. Our pilot Micah was fantastic — professional, knowledgeable, and informative throughout the flight, sharing interesting history and information about the island while making us feel completely comfortable and safe. Also, our greeter Jaylee was great at getting us ready for the flight. We gifted this to our young adults as we have been before and they had a fabulous time. Their pilot was Meg and they bonded over the fact that their cousin is also a female helicopter pilot, not so many of them around! Our first attempt was not so successful as sadly low cloud meant the trip had to be cancelled but we were able to reschedule for the next day and it was a beautiful day with excellent views. This company fly small craft so it was a trip just for the two of them so both had windows and they reported it was a truly wonderful experience and their pilot was terrific. The whole experience from check in to conclusion was excellent.

From booking online to the buttery smooth landing, the experience was absolutely perfect. Exceeded expectations in every way.

This was an experience of a lifetime. The staff were nice and helpful during the check in process. We had the safety orientation first and also provided the cellphone holder to take with you during the flight. I was so nervous because I am afraid of flying. Our pilot Christof did a great job calming my nerves. When we took off, all my nerves and anxiety was gone. The views were spectacular. Absolutely breathtaking, the flight was so smooth. I took a gazillion videos. I highly recommend doing this to everyone who visits Kauai.

We normally don't splurge on expensive excursions, but a helicopter tour of Kauai was on our bucket list, so we went for it. And our tour with Mauna Loa did not disappoint! It was so well worth the money! Especially the doors off experience! Our pilot Christoph was excellent! He knew a lot about different areas of the island, and he helped us feel safe. My wife and I both get a little nervous with extreme heights (hikes along cliffs and such, not flying on planes), but neither of us felt concerned at all during the entire flight. It was also fun to have music (Top Gun, etc.) playing on our headphones which we also used to communicate. I only wish we could have captured that audio on our videos we took on our phones instead of just rotor noise. Not sure how that would work, but it would be sweet! They also equipped us with strong phone lanyards free of charge, which worked great! We didn't get cold, but wearing jackets helped shield us from the strong rotor winds. So, SO glad we did this!

We weren't really sure about a "doors off" flight as we had only once before had a helicopter flight. But WOW! What a thrill. The sights over Oahu were needless to say spectacular, but the whole experience was made incredible by our very friendly and knowledgable pilot. being an MS flight simulator fan, I flew in the copilot seat and the pilot even talked me through his start up procedure and let me hit the switch to brake the rotor tab the end.

The Helicopter tour is amazing, the view of Kaua’i island from the top is really unique, so beautiful it cannot be described. Our pilot Mican has been super, he made us feel confortable and safe even with doors off, he gave many details during the flight and also was very talented in driving the Helicopter. The experience with doors off is really a plus, you get to see the landscapes without filter and you can really enjoy all of the wonderful colours Kaua’i offers. The Nāpali coast is a gift from mother’s nature, so beautiful from the top. I would really recommend this tour, i trouly believe this has been the best experience i everything had so far.

We had an awesome experience. I gave four stars instead of three because I could barely hear the pilot through the headphones I was given. Even with the volume all the way up it sounded fuzzy, and I felt like I missed out on the guided tour aspect.

Had an awesome flight with our pilot Matt. I was amazed by how much of the island we were able to see in our hour-long journey. Countless waterfalls, the whole Nepali coastline, Hanalei Bay, and even inside a volcano crater. We chose to fly doors-on as I’ve heard that doors off is quite loud and chilly experience. No regrets. We had a very enjoyable time! Originally, we had this booked for a couple days prior, made it all the way to the office and through our safety briefing before out that the flight was going to be canceled. A bit of a hassle, but better safe than sorry! Our second attempt was perfect weather and really glad we waited. Only complaint was that our ticket had an old address on it, five minutes away. Was able to call the office, get a quick response, and make it to our flight with no issues.time. Flew with my nine-year-old son.

I was quite nervous, but more from excitement. I was the one who chose doors off. We checked in at the NEW LOCATION at 3748 Ahukini Rd. Lihue, HI 96766. Kalei welcomed us and gave us our time to come back to get ready for our flight. She then directed us to a lounge with restrooms across the street. Preflight preparation with Kalei. First, we watched a short safety video. Next, we strapped a flotation device around our waists. Kalei had us remove our phones from their cases to properly secure them in a holder with a wrist strap. Then we waited on the front bench for our pilot. Within moments, our pilot WALT, walked over and greeted us with a big smile and a hearty handshake. After chatting with Walt, all my fears vanished. He was happy, friendly, and confident. He truly was a cool guy that you do not mind hanging out with for an hour in helicopter. He shared lots of interesting facts about the island and we had a lot of fun laughs. Walt as a pilot was gentle but effective with necessary safety information. His instructions were clear and easy to follow. Getting in and secure was remarkably easy. The flight itself was smooth. We did have some light rainfall during the flight which made for a spectacular rainbow. The entire experience was magical. If you want to know what we saw on the tour, you will need to book the tour and find out. You will not be disappointed. If you end up with Walt as your pilot, you are in great hands. Have fun! The ride was incredible. The views were breathtaking. We choose doors off. If you have long hair make sure you tie it up in a tight bun or you will never get a comb through it again. Had a great time!!

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY This tour never even got off the ground, LITERALLY. The place called us at 7:00 AM to tell us they had to cancel the tour because their pilot was sick. So you only have one pilot? The lady on the phone tells us they are a small operation and they only have two helicopters, and two pilots!!! So you are just going to leave a million dollar helicopter sitting there not being used? You dont have a back up pilot? An on call Pilot? They said they were goin gto get our refund to us ASAP, a week later I had to call again to get that taken care of. This place doesnt even do its own booking, we actually booked through Hawaiii Tours and they farm out the actual tour to Mauna Loa Helicopters. They could have cared less about even making this right.
