John and Kristy were great guides, funny and with enough good information to fill the day. However, each place you see is very doable on your own for a fraction of the price if you have a rental car. If you do this tour, I recommend doing so on one of your first days, as you can see some of Kauai’s most renowned sites and get ideas of where to explore further. It’s an entire day trip, so don’t take it lightly.

Nice way to see island Yes. Worth the orice
John is a great story teller and knowable about the island. Took my 2 and 6 year old. Was a good experience albeit a long day for the 2 year old. The sights are amazing.
John and Christy were wonderful. We had enjoyed our day and wonderful photo opportunities. John very knowledgeable about history
John and Kristi were Awesome !
Good tour, friendly guide, & safe driving up n down mountain.
We had a wonderfully memorable tour of Kauai with John’s informative and entertaining narration and Kristy’s safe driving. The scenery’s at Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto was stunning. The boat ride on the Wailua River was scenic and relaxing, with fun musical entertainment and hula dancing, it was fun walking around Old Koloa Town with all the charming shops. We had a delicious and healthful plant-based meal at Leahi Health in Koloa. We highly recommend this tour! Larry and Gigi
Great your guide and a wealth of knowledge about the island of Kauai.
John & Christie’s K1 Tour. John knew a lot of Kauai’s history and we especially enjoyed his stories of how his family came to Hawaiian islands back in the mid 1800s. Christie drove us safely around on Kauai and John delivered his knowledge of every place we visited.
John and Christina were awesome and informative. They took very good care of us and made the day that much more enjoyable.
John and Christy we’re great!
We were placed into a group with roughly 50 other people. They barked at us some hard to hear instructions regarding which boat to get on, it was not very clear. Once on the boat (it is really a barge with a engine pusher connected to the back) there was a group of locals, playing Hawaiian music. I knew most of the songs they were playing. This was my favorite part of the tour. They haul us up the river to a short walk ( a few hundred yards) up to the fern grotto. The jungle was beautiful! It rained on us the entire time. We walked up the concrete path to the grotto and then back to the boat. During the return trip down the river, they played more fun music and shared the history of the area and of their tour company. We had an infant with us. This was the only boat tour on the island that would allow us to bring our grand daughter. HUGE PLUS!
Was a very cool experience, the driver and guide were both great. 10/10 would recommend
We have gone on this tour twice - once in 2025 and once in 2026. Both times with had very knowledgeable local guides. They were able to give lots of history and personal insights to Kauai. Both were great drivers and went out of their way to make the day enjoyable. Both years we had to switch the day of our tour due to rescheduling of other activities. The company was very easy to work with to make the changes. Very worth the money to have this experience on Kauai.
Very good. The tour was timely and prompt. Loved the Canyon views. Plenty of time to enjoy. Loved the coffee stop.
Great day with John as our guide! Fern grotto was beautiful and the entertainment was much fun! The stop in town for lunch was perfect as were all the stops along the way - coffee plantation, spouting horn, the canyon was majestic - each stop was enjoyable. John shared many stories and helped make the trip entertaining.
Johnny our guide was very informative, interesting, knowledge and entertaining. He added personal insights and was always aware of the sights. Highly recommend this tour as well as our driver Edwin.
John and Edwin were Great! John was Funny and very informative
John and Edwin made the tour fun and made sure we learned a ton about Kauai! I would definitely recommend.
This was a great tour. It was over an 8 tour that hit up all the major tourist attractions if you didn't rent a car. When choosing a pickup location, it gave many options. FYI, if you're staying anywhere near the south or west of the airport, there was a pickup location about a 10 minute walking distance. Our tour guides Edwin and John were great. They were very knowledgeable, funny and accommodating.
Our guide, Sabrina, was cheerful and exceeded our expectations. She gave us lot of information and fun stories about the places we were visiting. Thanks to her excellent recommendation for restaurant in Koloa Town, we had a yummy breakfast/lunch at Break-Feast. She also helped us to find some needed grocery stuff while in Koloa. The tour was well organized and we never felt rushed. Very comfortable pick up/ drop off at our hotel.
Today was an amazing day packed with lots of adventures. Our tour guide, John, and our driver, Edwin are the best. They made sure we enjoyed each and every minute on our 9 plus hour excursion. We met at the Banyan Resort which was very close to the cruise terminal making it easy to access the tour. On this tour, we made a stop at ‘Opaeka’a Falls and Wailua River. We were able to take photos. Our next adventure was a boat ride up the Wailua River. The boat took us to the Fern Grotto where we were able to get off the boat and experience the Fern Grotto. We made a stop at Old Koloa Town which was established in 1835. We had 1.5 hours on our own to shop and eat lunch. Lunch is not included in the price of the excursion. We made a quick photo stop at Hanapepe the home of the Lilo and Stitch movie. We made a few photo stops along the way to Waimea Canyon Lookout. The views from the lookout were absolutely stunning! We made a stop at Kauai Coffee which is the largest coffee estate in the United States. They offer free coffee sampling and also for purchase. Our final stop was a photo opportunity at the Spouting Horn. This was so beautiful! Please note there are many bathrooms along the many stops. This tour is priced very well for all that it offers. We are visiting from a cruise ship and the tours offered through the cruise line didn’t have all the stops that this tour offers and the cruise line tour was much more expensive. I highly recommend this tour and if you can request John and Edwin. They will make your day one you won’t forget!
NCLPOA Albert was an amazing tour guide. He was very informative and knowledgeable. Thank you.
From the second we were picked up, we knew Sabrina was going to provide us with an excellent tour—and she did. Last Wednesday we thoroughly enjoyed touring Kaua’i, Sabrina was highly informative, energetic, and engaging. Sometimes with a day long tour, it can be tiring, but Sabrina kept spirits high and participants interested. It was a beautiful day!
Good day on the road with Johnna..She was engaging and entertaining. I was skeptical but this was a great tour of the island.
Good experience, it takes definitely all day but not for the time you'll spend at the places you'll be visiting but because the traveling time between locations. The boat experience was definitely enjoyable and the places for sightseeing were breathtaking definitely a must do, the convenience of someone taking care of the traveling is nice you can sit back relax even take a nap. They treat you with drinks and snacks is definitely a plus. While you travel they tell you stories about the places you'll visit, the ones passing by, give you recommendations to make more of your trip. We got a recommendation to visit a specific beach for wildlife sightseeing and was absolutely wonderful.
Best experience ever !! Thanks to John and Ken🫶🏻
Our Wailua River Cruise and Fern Grotto tour was one of the highlights of our visit to Kauaʻi! The boat ride along the beautiful Wailua River was peaceful, scenic, and filled with interesting stories about the island’s history and culture. The Fern Grotto itself is absolutely stunning and well worth the trip. What made the experience truly unforgettable was the entertainment on board. The musicians were talented, engaging, and created such a fun, authentic Hawaiian atmosphere. A special highlight was young Lala, the daughter of one of the entertainers, who performed a beautiful hula dance for everyone on the boat. She danced with such grace, joy, and confidence—it was heartwarming to watch and added a truly special touch to the experience. Mahalo to the wonderful crew for sharing the aloha spirit with us. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kauaʻi. It’s a perfect blend of natural beauty, Hawaiian culture, music, and hospitality!
Gives a holistic perspective of the diverse ecosystems of Kauai. The stops during the tour are excellent.
The guide makes all the difference. Ours was from Bolivia and was very hard to understand also through no fault of his own his microphone didn’t work. I was very surprised that there were no amenities such as water or umbrellas, giving the fact that this cost us over $500. I was also surprised that we had to pay for our own lunch given the cost of this trip. The boat ride to the Fern grotto was lovely with excellent entertainment in hindsight we should’ve just taken that trip for $35 apiece and not the rest of the excursion. Wasn’t worth it.
You get to see alot without doing the driving. Highlight was the boat ride, which you can also do separately in your own. Issues were a lot of driving time between stops, which was too much for the kids under 10 in our group, and the guide didn't provide much information during the drive time, which ended up being for the best since no one could really hear him clearly over the speaker system, even after we asked if the sound could be turned up. It would have been better with a clear and more extensive description of the island and the places we were going and seeing.
It is a long day, but very enjoyable. The hosts are very knowledgeable and will answer all your questions.
This is a must see in the island! It is an absolutely magical, relaxing, beautiful river cruise! It is affordable for families or large groups. The scenery alone is worth the trip. The grotto is breathtaking. The live music on the boat makes it so relaxing and mesmerizing.
Had a great time with our guide, Sabrina. She was very knowledgeable, entertaining, and helpful for our day trip. We were able to see all the sights, plus a few more photo stops.
The Polynesian Adventure bus/river tour we took was absolutely amazing! Our tour guide Sabrina was very friendly and told us all about every stop we made, pointed out places along the way and told us all about Hawaiian culture. We visited the Opakea Falls lookout, took a boat cruise to the fern grotto and witnessed a performance of the Hawaiian Wedding song, learned the hula dance and listed to some live Hawaiian music, visited Old Koloa town for some shopping and lunch, then we went to the absolutely breathtaking Waimea Canyon and took a lots of photos! We visited the Kauai Coffee company and got to try many samples, and visited the Spouting Horn on the way back! This trip captured all the amazing highlights of Kauai! Highly recommend this tour!
It was a great trip. Jonna, our guide gave us interesting informations about each place we pass by or go to.
It was wonderful we stopped at beautiful views. Our driver John was excellent really knew the Island.
Great tour. John was a fantastic guide. Good communication prior to tour.
Recommended to all! John the driver related great real life experience while explaining sights throughout the tour. Visiting Waimea, Kauai coffee, spouting horn and the fern grotto in one day is a full day you won’t want to miss.
The guide was the highlight of the trip, with the views in second place. John is a vibrant personality with oodles of stories to tell, and good spots for a good shot. His honesty and knowledge made the in-betweens so much more enjoyable, and the places he took us were breathtaking. I wish John the best of luck in life, and I will never forget the views he gave us. 5/5
John was excellent guide with a good sense of humor. His recommendation of the Break Feast restaurant in Kōloa town had excellent food. We learned a bit about the history of Hawaii as well. Lots of beautiful sites to see. I would recommend this tour if you are planning a trip to Kauai.
Chris the tour guide was very knowledgeable. The bus was very comfortable. Perfect amount of time to experience all Kauai has to offer.
Great tour- not sure if its for kids under 8. Lots of driving. Our guide,Chris, gave lots of information about things we drove past on our way to different destinations.
Tour guide John was very helpful with local knowledge and advice
This tour included quite a few stops. It was nice to sit back and both enjoy the views. The canyon was beautiful. I recommend the tour, you got to see a lot in one day.
We saw a lot on this tour. Coffee estate, fern grotto, waterfall, Waimea canyon. Nice we didn’t have to drive . Guide had lots of good stories.
The whole trip was amazing, but the magic of the riverboat ride was the highlight of the trip. The canyon was a beautiful sight as well.
Price doesn’t match the experience almost $300 for almost all the stops you could have done on your own.
This is a great way the see the Waimea canyon and fern grotto. Especially since I was touring with my 88 year old mother. Sabrina was great guide with a wealth of information!
We absolutely loved this tour. The canyon was incredible, and the high point, according to my 10- and 12-year-old. I loved the river tour and Fern Grotto portion - which includes beautiful music and dance, as well as some history and beautiful sights. Accessible enough to bring grandma and the littles, so we really lived that aspect, too, of experiencing it all together. Chris, our guide, was wonderful, too. Low-key, affable, and knowledgeable. He played great music on the tour bus, too. BRING HAND SANITIZER/Wipes. Some of the bathrooms along the tour are a bit primitive and don’t include soap dispensers.
