Kauai's Ultimate Guided Shore Snorkel (No Boat): North Anini

Our guide was Kioni and he was outstanding! He did an excellent job of explaining the flow of the tour and what we should expect. He went at the perfect pace for our group and found turtles and lots of other fish for us to see. We definitely recommend Kioni and his tour! This tour was in an area that was protected so we did not deal with major waves. This beach area is ideal for people like us that have some experience but only snorkel once a year on vacation. We stayed in the Princeville area and this location was so convenient for us. Anini Beach is a gem! And so is this guide and the tour too!

Our group ranged in age from 7-66. Sophia was so patient and knowledgeable. She spent time showing us the amazing sea life and answered every question the kids had. This was such a fun and memorable experience for our family! Thank you!

This tour was definitely the highlight of our 2 week vacation. We went at 8 in the morning. The water was very clear and the temperature perfect, even without the added layer the company offered to provide. David was our guide. He gave us plenty of instructions and a safety lesson and showed us photos of fish we may see. We were thinking that we might be lucky just to see a half a dozen different types of fish. We saw almost every kind he told were possible. Most of our group saw about six sea turtles. They swam very near us. I would have been happy to stay there all day.

This was the first time me and my siblings have gone snorkeling, and it couldn't have been better. Keoni was polite, friendly, and full of interesting facts about the sea life we saw. A big highlight in particular was when he led us to a sea turtle hideout. I definitely was really satisfied with the length of the trip as well -- not too short, but not so long that we got exhausted. I definitely recommend this for people curious about snorkeling (but keep in mind you should already know how to swim first). Thanks again!

Sophia was a great guide, finding all the right spots, and is super-knowledgeable about the local fish. Even saw a sea turtle! Really convenient,too, since we are staying at a hotel on the south shore.

Went separate beach walk-in and a zodiac snorkeling trip and each was a blast, in its own way. Lots of sea life and friendly sea turtles. Guides Shelby, Kiani and zodiac skipper Rich were informative with remarkable local and ocean knowledge. A great time!

Keoni was my guide. He is a native Hawaiian and is absolutely amazing! Keoni knows so much about the different fish we saw. We saw small puffers, (dallis? my favorites), yellow tangs, the Hawaiian state fish, and several other species as well as sea cucumbers and 3 green sea turtles. Keoni obviously loves Hawaii and loves his job. It was a joy to spend the morning with someone so passionate about what he does! The reef at Anini Beach is really big, but Keoni knew right where to go. My snorkel tours to Anini Beach and Koloa Landing (Poipu Beach) with ZTours MADE my vacation to Kauai!!! Btw, don't forget to tip your guide when you take a tour bc it counts as part of their income.

What a great time. Keoni was informative about the fish we saw and even found us a turtle. 🐢. I was a novice and he made sure I was comfortable and even towed me, all the while checking on the other members of our party. I’m so glad I was able to experience snorkeling. Keoni was a Star.

The best way to see turtles on Anini Beach. We saw close to 12 turtles and a ray, during the tour. The guide knew where to go to see the turtles.

Our family initially booked the south shore boat snorkeling tour, anticipating a memorable first experience. Unfortunately, the tour was canceled the day before due to weather conditions. An alternative shore snorkeling tour on the north shore was offered, which was a 1.5-hour drive from the south shore hotel. The tour guide was pleasant and provided snacks, but the experience itself was disappointing and didn't meet expectations for a snorkeling tour. Unlike a boat tour that drops you directly into prime reef areas, this shore-based tour (NO BOAT) involved spending more than half the time swimming to and from the beach. During approximately 50 minutes of snorkeling, very limited marine life was observed, including a small school of fish, a handful of small fish, and a couple of turtles. Given the lengthy drive and the underwhelming snorkeling experience, you could have a better and more cost-effective experience by independently renting snorkeling gear and exploring on you own or by visiting nearby spots like Queen's Bath, which has more opportunities to spot marine life than on this tour.

We had a fantastic snorkeling experience with Shane! He was incredibly attentive and gave clear, helpful instructions—perfect for us as novice snorkelers. He pointed out various fish and made sure we felt safe and confident in the water. Being able to snorkel right off the shore and explore the reefs without needing a boat was amazing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed, guided snorkeling adventure!

Shout our guide to Shane who made our experience unforgettable! Our family is a mix of strong swimmer who grew up by oceans and some not so strong teenage swimmers and this experience was wonderful for all of us. We felt safe and cared for the entire time. A floating apparatus is in the water with a group the entire time which you can hold onto or swim with 20 yards away from it. Either way, you’re going to see it all. We saw remarkable fish and SEA TURTLES. (If I could cry underwater, I would have it was so amazing.) Shane pointed out sea life and gave us information throughout the snorkel while keeping an eye out for our entire group. Worth the price. TIP: Buy a disposable underwear camera before you go. 😁

Highly recommend - worth every penny!! We were with our kids (8 and 10). Our guide was amazing! Kind, knowledgeable, relaxed. The gear was in great shape and very clean. We had the best time and saw at least 10 turtles, an octopus, boxfish, and more. Thank you so much!

Ton of fun. Saw lots of fish. Loved that I didn’t have to get in a boat to snorkel. Knowledgable guide, who even found a sea cucumber for us to take a closer look at.

Shane did a great job with our group of 7. Our group went to the NORTH shore because conditions were not conducive for snorkeling on the South shore on the date we went. FYI for non-swimmers or new swimmers: If you go on the two-hour guided snorkel guided tour on the NORTH side of the island, swimming is required. It was a great trip but a few of our group struggled and it slowed the rest of the group down.

This is a great tour if you, like me, are new to snorkeling or simply new to the area. Reefs on Kauai can be a bit tricky and it’s a good idea to get someone experienced with the areas. Had a great guide, who was very knowledgeable about the reef and helped me to be comfortable in the water, even though we had some pretty strong waves. We did had to reschedule my original tour in Anini to the south side at Lawai beach, due to some scheduling and staffing conflicts. Service team was great and we rescheduled easy over text in a few minutes. South side was great as well. Saw 2 green turtles and was able to swim alongside one. Super experience. Many other colorful reef fish which were great to observe. My guide found a sea cucumber and pulled it up on the surfboard. Interesting creatures these are. Great to have someone who can show all this. Recommend this tour on either side of the island.

Our family (all adults) had such a fun time snorkeling with our guide Anna. She made us newbies feel totally at ease by answering all our questions and sharing fun facts and relevant guidelines. Would highly recommend this activity especially for those that are newer to snorkeling.

This is one of the most unique snorkeling experiences we’ve ever had. Having access to a naturally occurring reef without having to step on a boat for a 5-hour tour was perfect for us. We saw more sea turtles in this 45-minute snorkeling tour than I’d seen in all my snorkeling adventures of the past combined. Our tour guide, Ona, was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. 10/10!!

Wonderful experience, including seeing several sea turtles. Our guide was incredible, and very patient. We had a 7 year old first time snorkeling. Guide got our child to go from initially demanding to be taken back to the beach to paddling around on her own and excited about the adventure.

This was a fantastic experience start to finish. Our guide was Brett and he was outstanding. He helped my husband get past his jitters getting into the ocean above his knees for the first time and charmed us with all the amazing wild life right there in the bay. He hauled us all over while we held handles on his dive raft and was so kind and supportive as well as very knowledgable. I cramped up just before we got out and he was huge help getting me back to dry land. I will always cherish this swim it was the best way to start our trip! Can’t recommend enough!

This snorkeling at North Anini was the best outing I’ve had out of about a half dozen in HI! Our guide, Lindsey, was extremely helpful and friendly as well as skilled. She found numerous fish for us to view. We were treated with the presence of 4-5 sea turtles 🐢 on this outing which just made it special. I recommend this trip to new or experienced snorkelers. If you are lucky, you will get Lindsey as your guide. Mahalo!

This was so much fun! The fish and the sea turtles were amazing!! Brett was a fantastic guide and made me feel extremely safe (I'm new to snorkeling).

This was great! I love turtles and was able to see FOUR giant green sea turtles. The worst part was getting out! This could have easily been 4-5 hours in the water. The guide was great!
