We had an amazing experience with the honey bees! Ronnie and Malia are fantastic guides and taught us so much about the bee colonies and the sweet honey! Wearing the bee keepers suit was fun and allowed us to be up close and friendly with “the ladies’. A must for those who love our pollinators! Definitely a highlight of our trip to Kauai!

Exceptional interactive educational experience. Once in a life time and would highly recommend the tour. Jess and Christine were great tour guides. It includes the education of bees, specifically the Hawaiian honey bees, including actual up close interaction with the hive and the bees and a full tasting of honey from their hives as well as other Hawaiian growers, and an array of fresh farm fruit sprinkled with honey and cacao seeds. Yum!
Beyond amazing, everything about this experience was amazing the guides had so much passion for what they do and did a fantastic job teaching and answering every question. The tasting was soooo good and we enjoyed the jar of honey that we helped harvest to take back home with us. I would strongly recommend this tour to anyone. Definitely the highlight of our trip
The Inside the Hive tour was excellent. I learned a lot about honey bees and tried a number of delicious honeys. Ronnie and Malia made the tour educational AND extra fun. They were engaging, very knowledgeable, and funny as well! I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to my friends and ohana.
Great experience! Christine and Jess were great guides!
Ronny and Malia were great guides, very knowledgeable and fun. Would recommend.
Such a fun and interesting experience. Loved the honey and cacao tasting. Our great guides made an even better tour.
The Bee Experience was one of the highlights of our trip. It was hands-on, educational, and surprisingly fun for both kids and adults. We learned so much about honeybees, got an up-close look inside a working hive, and even suited up to safely interact with the bees. The guides were knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about what they do. Our son was completely engaged from start to finish, and we all left with a much greater appreciation for bees and the important role they play. The fresh honey tasting at the end was the perfect finishing touch. If you’re looking for something unique, authentic, and memorable, I highly recommend the Bee Experience. It’s well worth the visit.
Fantastic tour, both delicious and educational! Our tour guides Jess and Christine were incredible. Our whole family had a great time!
Fantastic tour, equal parts educational and delicious! Our tour guides, Jess and Christine, were delightful. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in local agriculture, apiology, or nature in general.
I highly recommend this tour. Jess and Christine were wonderful and full of knowledge. They were both very passionate about caring for the bees. If you have never tasted honey straight from the hive, then you definitely need to do this tour!
Jess and Ronnie were our guides and are clearly passionate about the farm and bees but also about everyone enjoying the tour and getting what they want! There were so many offers for pictures, regular check in with an individual struggling in bee suit and general conversation and welcoming of questions. Eating honeycomb fresh from the frame and tasting honey is really a bonus.
We got to harvest a frame of honey and they gave us the honey in a little jar that is travel approved.
This was 11/10! Jess and Ronnie were LOVELY and taught us so much about hawaii, bees and the local plants. I would 100% do this tour and would love to do it again.
The tour is so much more than just seeing bee hives. Even if you are not a honey fan the interesting information provided by our tour guides Ronnie and Christine is worth the price to help support one of the most important parts of our food chain. Being able to see the bees in action close up and seeing the end result of their hard work was amazing. Even more amazing was tasting the difference between honey from a variety of plants the bees collected the pollen from.
Ronnie and Jasmine were our guides and they did a great job introducing us to the bees and their hives. I had previous experience as a beekeeper but the rest of our group did not and our guides made a point of putting everyone at ease with their explanations of bee behavior and biology. The bees in the hive we opened were exceptionally calm and docile and I believe everyone felt comfortable around them. The honey tasting at the end of the tour was also a great experience and I suspect many in the group had never tasted raw honey straight from the comb! The comparison between the taste and texture of the real honey and the store-bought “honey-like product” was illuminating and likely convinced the whole group to only buy the real thing going forward. All in all this was an experience well worth doing for those with even a modest interest in bees and honey!
6/5 recommend if you have any curiosities about honey or bees! We were able to get really close to the bees, try some fresh honey, and explore part of their farm. Learned so much and tried some of the best honey ever. Also got to take home some.
This is an excellent tour! McKenna and Jess were our tour guides/bee keepers. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and love what they do. We were given bee keeper suits to wear while visiting the apiary. Our guides gave excellent instruction on how to approach the hives and were respectful as to when to open the hive during our visit. It happened to rain during our visit to the apiary, which was an unexpected but an incredible opportunity. After visiting the bees, we had a tasting of fresh honey and honeycomb, and four different honeys. The directions to get to the farm were sent via email and were very helpful, as were the signs as we got close to the location. I highly recommend this tour!
It’s such an informative tour. Ronny and Jessie were very attentive and knowledgeable about bees, hives and honey. Very interesting tour since we love honey.
We loved this! Makenna is so knowledgeable and made us hungry for more knowledge about bees and working an apiary. She is wonderfully fun as well. Jasmine was her assisting guide and also great. We don’t realize we’d be able to hold a frame and then taste honey with the comb directly from that frame. I am quite nervous about bees. They made everyone so comfortable I didn’t want it to end. Thank you for making this available!
Ronnie and Sarah were great! They shared so much information and had answers for ALL the questions our tour group had. They made the tour feel very relaxed and enjoyable. I live on Kauai, but this tour intrigued me. I Highly recommend this tour for Anyone! Trying honey, honeycomb and seeing the bees up close is 100% worth it! 🐝
Well curated, well coordinated tour of the Lydgate Honey Bee Farms. Roni and Jess did a great job explaining everything you'd ever want to know about honey bees and honey. Highly recommended. Thanks Will for creating this experience. And thanks Mel for recommending it.
Great tour! Jess and Jasmine were knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed learning about the bees, seeing them upclose, and harvesting the honey. Our only constructive feedback - the size of our group (15) made it very difficult for shorter people to see, as the tallest people always seemed to crowd up front.
Ronnie & Jess are absolutely amazing and extremely knowledgeable about everything bees and honey. It's obvious they share a love for the bees and the island. We came away with a greater appreciation for bees. We got up close and personal with a hive, but not to worry as you are in a bee keeper's suit with the attached bonnet and gloves. There is nothing else like this experience on Kauai.
The ladies did an excellent job of explaining bee keeping and its environmental importance. Everyone was very kind and welcoming and safety came first. You can tell they love their job, and the bees. We loved this tour and the products. Highly recommend!
It is hard to know where to start on this review other than to highly recommend this as a “must do”. Roni and McKenzie were amazing guides and are authentic ambassadors of the true meaning of “aloha” as well as making this tour a gem in the Lydgate offerings. Their passion for the bees and beekeeping was evident from the moment the event started and never waned! This was the complete opposite of the rote, overly-rehearsed tours so often encountered. This was information-rich and genuine for both the uninitiated and existing beekeepers. A great introduction to the entire “lifecycle” of honey and the hard work done by the bees to produce it - particularly in Kauai with its unique qualities. And of course, the tasting of various honeys, including freshly harvested honey (in front of us). Very cool and delicious! We highly recommend this and look forward to Roni and McKenzie coming to Wisconsin next year for the expo!! (You know how to reach us!! ;) Mahalo nui loa and a hui hoa!)
We have been many places around the world, experienced more tours than I can count and this is by far the best one yet. What a unique and informative experience. Ronnie and Jasmine absolutely love their jobs and you can tell. They are so knowledgeable and able to make the information relatable. The humor they add in is off the chart. And the honey…we got an amazing batch that is beyond delicious. If you can’t decipher the floral or Cacau notes in the honey, Ronnie and Jasmine will guide you through the tasting. Well worth the time and money. Not to mention, the beauty of the farm is stunning. Enjoy the hive!!!
Ronnie and Brook were very bee knowledgeable, safe, and careful with all living creatures. (Even a huge, gross cane spider that was hunting their beloved bees) They glowed with respect and love for Hawai’i and all her living creatures. The bee hive tour was very informative and yummy. We sampled much of the produce from the farm as well as honey directly pulled from the hive as we watched. What a fun experience. And bring your silliest bee puns.
Roni and McKenna you rock!!! Loved the history of bees in kauai and the nectar of Kauai. Your passion and dedication for bees and knowledge to pass on will impact everyone you meet. Thank you !! You only live once Bee Happy!! As both of you clearly are!!!
I was traveling with my family and found this tour on Tripadvisor. I thought this was such a unique experience so I booked it. Because it was rainy, we were not able to open the hives for the safety of the bees but the guide was able to open some of the "windows" in the hives so we can see inside and had pre-harvested a honeycomb for us to see (and taste!). The tour guides were extremely knowledgable about beekeeping and did a good job of balancing the information based on the experience of the group. As someone who has no experience beekeeping, I felt like I learned a lot as someone new to this world while the other more experienced beekeepers also asked a lot of questions and were really engaged. The demonstrations and honey tasting were really amazing - you can really taste how flavors of honey can really change based on environments and the pollen/nectar they source from (we even compared it to storebought). The local honey was so tasty that we even had to buy a couple jars for ourselves to bring home. We were so happy to take this tour and help support local sustainable agriculture and highly recommend for a unique experience while you're visiting!
We had the joy of having Brooke and McKenna as our tour guides, and they were so knowledgeable about bees, honey, and general agriculture of Hawaii! There was an into talk going over general beekeeping, the specific beekeeping philosophy at Lydgate, and what the rest of the tour would look like. The beesuits were easy to put on, and it was so fun to be a small part of the process. It was raining during our your, and Brooke and McKenna handled it very well, making sure we could still experience the hives and honey while keeping the bees safe. After having done the chocolate tour twice, this was a fun be experience and I would highly recommend it.
Ronnie & McKenna were AMAZING! So knowledgeable and gracious! We were here with our 4 children (14,12,11 and 9). This was a highlight of our trip to Kuau’i. We cannot wait to come back and experience the beautiful grounds again.
The tour was everything I was hoping it would be. Informative and I interactive. Makena and Roni's live for the farm and the bees, their bees, came through in an authentic way that made me love the bees too. I asked so many questions and Makena and Roni graciously and enthusiasticly answered thrm all. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone interested in learning about bees and honey, and so much more.
Spent the morning with Roni and McKenna on the bee hive honey tour. What an amazing experience. I have gained a new appreciation for nature's hardest working insects. McKenna and Roni are so knowledgeable but also so personable that our time together flew by. There was time to answer every question and taste a bunch of products of Lydgate Farms each more tasty than the last. Our 11 and 9 year old loved the experience as well. I cannot endorse this experience enough. If you appreciate nature, science, and some amazing new tastes this tour is for you.
This was a wonderful tour. Jess and Ronnie were fantastic beekeeper guides and we learned so much. It was fun and educational at the same time. Thanks so much!
Very unusual and interesting tour. The tour guides were great with a wealth of information. Bee suits were the best! Good times! Would do it again!
I've been on all kinds of tours in Mexico, California, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Nevada, and multiple places in Europe - and this was one of my all time favorites. It was unique, fun, informative, gorgeous plants, and fantastic guides! They honey is divine! I have a new appreciation and respect for honey bees and bee keepers. If you do one tour during your stay on Kauai, you will not go wrong with this one. Best experience out of the water! Thank you to Alexandria and Sarah for an amazing time! Mahalo.
OMG, so fun! Bees are the most amazing creatures and I really enjoyed learning all about them on this tour. Lydgate Farms does such an great job of hosting a tour, they really anticipate your every need. Jess and Jules were wonderful tour guides and Jules really went above and beyond with the beautiful delicious fruit plates she created to enjoy with the delicious honey. Just keep calm and enjoy the bees!
Still think about this incredible tour and tell anyone who heads here to do it. Brooke and Makenna are just our kind of people. They answered all our questions and felt like we were just friends talking about all things bees - the vibes were splendid. I learned so much and appreciate their love for what they do!
We had such an amazing experience. McKenna and Jules were so amazing, knowledgeable, talented, comfortable, funny, and all around just so nice to be around. We would love to come back in the future, especially if we get McKenna and Jules again! Those two make such a perfect work duo together! Thank you again! -Jack and Olivia Agostini (and our little babe on the way really enjoyed when I ate the honey!!) ❤️
Jess and McKenna were the best kindest tour guides. You sample the honey from the hive you get to hold along with other treats. Very interesting and informative. Loved every minute
What a fabulous, informative adventure! Our guides were McKenna and Jules. These kind ladies were amazing with their knowledge, friendlessness, and food prep! We enjoyed experiencing the bee hives and bees up close and personal but in complete safety. We sampled several honey flavors as well as one directly from the hive which they gave us a sample of to take with us. They also shared some recommendations of other places to visit in the area. 10/10 for this tour, staff, and Lydgate Farms! They also have a chocolate tour which was fabulous, 10/10! Do both, guaranteed a great time and unique experiences!
This was an awesome tour that I would highly recommend to others. It was informative, fun and a totally unique experience. Our guides, McKenna and Jewel, were very knowledgeable and did an excellent job educating us about the bees and the process of making honey. We all had an opportunity to be involved and even got to taste the honey fresh off the frame!
Ronnie and Jewels were great guides. We got participate and see the harvesting of honey, and the working of the hives. It was very informative and a great deal of fun.
Took the tour as a family with two young girls. McKenna and Jess were both great, lots of enthusiasm and energy, learned a lot about bees, and they were great with taking questions. Also learned a lot about cocoa. The honey was delicious, and we had a tasting with a few varieties afterwards. Including eating some honeycomb that was maybe 5 or 10 minutes out of the hive. We all came away with small jars. I left thinking, damn, I really want to go home and start our own hive. And the diversity in honey flavor was eye-opening. Highly recommend, and you may come back with a deep appreciation of bees and honey.
Wonderful and up close adventure with a working farm and real honey bees. Alexandria and Jules were our amazing hosts and had such great knowledge to share with us all while keeping us excited and safe. We got to take home the actual honey from the hive we saw and it was so delicious we bought more to bring home. The small group definitely allowed for a personal touch and will absolutely be recommending this tour to everyone I know that will visit the island. Well done!
This tour was amazing! We learned so much about bees, their habitats and the honey bees on Kaua’i. The bee keepers, Makenna and Alex were very informative and you could tell they loved their bees and their jobs! We got to suit up and hold the hives and eat their honey. It’s worth taking!
This your was so fun!! We got to put the bee suit on and everything! We leaned all about the honey bee population in Kauai and how they are thriving. We watched the bees at work and tasted their incredible honey! Made me appreciate the bees that much more! 🐝 the tour was informative and you can tell that these bee keepers love their jobs! Thanks for a great tour, Makenna and Alex! We loved it 😍
Loved this tour. Was presented very well. McKenna super friendly and knowledgeable about the bee ecology. 🐝 if you are interested in the fascinating world of bees, this is your tour. I highly recommend.
I had a great experience! The staff really seemed to care about what they do, we're very friendly and made sure we were comfortable and enjoying the tour. The treat at the end was cool we got to eat the honey we harvested. I highly recommend it!
