I had a great time cooking with Sasi! While cooking and eating, she taught me many things as my Sri Lankan mother. Sthuthi!

We had such a lovely experience at this cooking class in Sri Lanka! From the warm welcome to the hands-on cooking, everything felt authentic. We recommend highly and our cooking teacher called Kalas was amazing.
We started by going to the store to buy some vegetables that then didn't get used. Then we were taught how to stir fry and chop. The meal itself was nice but nothing special. They promised to send pictures and recipes but they didn't arrive.
It was a very nice experience for us as a couple. We would surely recommend this to everyone. We learned how to cook the meals and they also showed us the plants and Spices. Worth the visit
An amazing cooking experience, Nilla was a great teacher and showed us a variety of great authentic Sri Lanka meals. Would totally recommend!
I went for the cooking class with my son and what an experience it was! Nila, our teacher, patiently explained all the spices used in Sri Lankan cuisine.Clay pots were used .Within an hour there was an array of delicious dishes on the table. We cooked a dal, a bean curry with chillies and coconut milk (not a drop of oil was used for this),a very flavourful chicken curry with pandan and curry leaves and a dry potato dish.My son was delighted with the two coconut sambals he made.We polished it all off with yellow rice which had sultanas in it. I think this was the best thing that I did in Kandy, learning how to cook the authentic Sri Lankan way.Thank you ,Nila! It was convenient that pick up and drop was arranged by them.Value for money!
Firstly, the activity did not start off with a choice of drink. The options are listed as either cocktail, mocktail, coconut water, beer, etc. but all we got offered was a tea. Secondly, I chose the menu that I wanted and had arranged it on whatsapp. I chose this course with this organiser because there were specific dishes that I wanted to learn how to make. But, when I got there, they had selected the dishes - which were very limited, not as many as were listed on the activity page and some of them were dishes I didn't want to make. Also, I am vegetarian and they had chicken as one of the dishes. I don't know whether management didn't pass on the menu or what, but it was very disappointing. Also, a note on hygiene - we were only offered a bowl of water to wash our hands - no soap, sanitiser, etc. You make a lot of the dishes with your hands like squeezing coconut and water to make coconut milk. I had stomach issues the next day. Thankfully the experience was ok overall, as the staff who led the class were very friendly, kind and helpful. However, this class needs to be organised better and be listed accurately, rather than getting hopes up to make certain dishes and not being able to. Also, I had to be the one to message on the day to ask if the class was going ahead as I heard nothing from the organiser. My experience was ok, but I don't think this class is worth the amount of money you pay for it and I've been to classes much better arranged than this.
The cooking school is set in a beautifully manicured garden where all the food is harvested from. The food was amazing and delicious and Nila and Manju were wonderful. I was on my own and had such a personal experience, cooking from a traditional clay oven. This is the best cooking lesson I have had in my travels. Highly recommended!
Great cooking class. Cook Nilla was very nice and let us actively taste during the cooking class. Everything was wel arranged from picking up at the hotel to the final meal! I highly recommend it.
What a great place. Wonderful Spice Garden where we learnt about the medicinal benefits of the different spices. Hands -on outdoor cooking class, followed by enjoying the fabulous Sri Lankan dishes we made. An excellent back and neck massage finished off our evening perfectly. Friendly and helpful staff made it really special for us.
It was fantastic to spend an evening with everyone at the Kandy Authentic Cooking Class. The location is great, cooking outside next to a spice garden. We had two great cooks to show us how the food is prepared and talk us through the ingredients and spices. And I guess the proof of it all is that the meal we had was fabulous. A great way to spend an evening, to learn more about Sri Lankan food and to have a meal as a family that we cooked together. We will definitely be recreating this back in the UK, but maybe not in such a warm and and green place.
Amazing time with a very informative lady teacher! Sensation feel to the place and an absolute delight to eat at! (Eat all the bananas at the end)
An absolute must do!! All the spices and vegetables are grown on site (for the class and wider community), lovely hosts and the portions were huge! Nila is a great cook and teaches you everything from start to finish. I’d 100% do the class again!
Amazing food and really fun evening activity! We had great fun and ate really well! Would definitely recommend to all!!!
Amazing experience, very well thought out and executed. We really enjoyed it- you get to chose when they pick you up at your hotel, and special request any specific dishes as well as whether you want veg, meat or fish. We requested a dhal which was great and fish too. Loads of food- in total 7 dishes- nothing goes to waste though. Great experience
We loved our experience learning to prepare a variety of dishes using traditional methods. And after cooking we weee able to enjoy our creations and everything we tasted was delicious. The whole experience was one of the best on our time in Sri Lanka.
A wonderful experience. We learned so much and everything we prepared was delicious! As a vegetarian I am delighted to have so much good food that was plant based. And everyone was so kind. It was a terrific experience and we highly recommend it.
This was meant to be a private cookery course and ended up with 8! The two Australians also booked it as that. Meant to be 950 yrds from hotel ended up with 2-3 miles up mountain roads. Pick up meant to be 4.30pm was 4.45 pm in the pouring rain. We had to keep calling them! Should have had free beer no we had to pay for it! The person who organised this was not the person who we had a problem with re communication during the day def very iffy and he said he did not know who we had booked through! Funny as he had my phone no. 🤔 Then he said we hadn’t paid but we had so he rang the so called stranger. There was def something going on re this event which was not right. Saying all of that it was a good class and fab food. Very sociable .
Amazing cooking class! The best service and very delicious food! Friendly people. High variety on different recipies
Communication from the Kandy Spice Walk 101 was very good. Asked about dietary requirements. You can choose the time you want the class. Manju was a wonderful host - explained things in excellent English and was very welcoming. Neela, the cook who gave the class, was amazing - organised, involved us and was charming. We cooked 7 dishes - all delicious - so much food! We paid $15 dollars extra for ‘the village market visit’- we walked down to the local vegetable stall and back - underwhelming. We walked through a spice garden with explanations - good. The cooking class was thoroughly enjoyable - great space, good ingredients. After the meal, we were encouraged to buy some herbal medicines - expensive but they weren’t pushy. Safely seen to our return tuktuk. Really great food and cooking experience but expensive. (Don’t do the village market extra).
The cooking experience was excellent. Neela was very helpful, explained everything well and helped us produce a fabulous meal. We paid extra for the market which involved walking down the hill to the corner fruit and veg stall for a few items so that part was disappointing. Cooking outdoors with traditional cooking methods was a great experience. Pick up was organised easily and communication was great. You can nominate what time you want to do the class. We opted for 5pm and received a message that the tuk tuk was on it's way just before 5. Organised and payment sorted. On arrival we walked to the shop then we're given a short tour and talk about the village and medicinal uses of the Ayurveda school and products they grow for medicine. We were then taken to the small kitchen, introduced to the chef and provided with aprons and cup of tea. There were 2 of us which was comfortable in the space. Cooking was fun, easy and hands-on. Amazing that 7 dishes could be cooked within an hour. We sat down to eat and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Throughout the process Manju introduced us, explained the process, took several photos and spoke to us while we ate. There was the usual encouragement to purchase products (very expensive) and do a review on the spot as well as to have a massage afterwards. Recipes and photos were sent to us via WhatsApp and we were safely seen into a tuk tuk at the end, via the shop. All in all it was a great experience and we enjoyed learning to cook the various dishes and eating them. It was very expensive for what it was and l don't recommend including the village market as it really didn't exist (nor did a cocktail or beer).
Really good and authentic cooking class - the food was delicious. You will get all the recipe afterwards to try at home 🙂
Very entertaining and fun experience! It was our first time taking a cooking class and it was beyond our expectations. The chef was patient and knowledgeable. The food was amazing!! All the hosts were extremely kind and helpful, they even organized a free pickup and return to our hotel. The class and eating lasted about 2h (not 3h as written), but for us, that was enough. The only thing we missed was the promised srilankan coctail/beer - we got tea. We recommend it, it doesn’t matter if you are amazing at cooking or an amateur:D you will have fun!
The whole team were excellent, I've always wondered how to make authentic dhal and now I know! Wonderful outdoor setting too so able to cook over fire for an authentic experience, would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys a curry!
Nilante is a brilliant cooking instructor! We had an amazing time here and helped prepare some fantastic food. The hospitality was superb and we recommend highly.
This was such a great cooking experience. The kitchen was outdoors and had a wood burner stove. The 8 dishes I made were all incredible. The tastes and flavors were a dream. I also got a tour of the spice garden, as they grow all of their produce on their land and it is organic.
Interesting to see how authentic Sri Lankan food prepared and cooked. Interaction was fun. Great meal produced and we judged best we have had in Sri Lanka. Looking forward to trying the recipes at home.
Nila was a great teacher & guided us through making 7/8 different dishes which all tasted amazing. It was a good experience cooking outside using more traditional methods and learning local customs.
The cooking class was a really good experience. It takes place in an open kitchen which makes it really authentic. Nila and Manju explained everything really well and also in different languages. The ingredients are super fresh, there’s nothing chemical, everything is organic, receipts are simple, and in the end you enjoy a warmhearting meal. I also recommend to see the spicy garden, and the Ayurveda medicine they produce.
This was one of the best experiences we’ve had in Sri Lanka. The company organised a tuk-tuk there and back which was great. The site is a gorgeous organic farm, with almost everything grown on-site. Nila and Manju were super lovely and attentive. Food was AMAZING! we were in a private kitchen outdoors which was so nice. Would highly recommend. Thanks for the experience.
My favourite time in Sri Lanka so far! The organising was easily done on WhatsApp and we were picked up from our hostel in a tuk tuk all paid for. The site is a really lovely organic farm, where they grow all their own spices and vegetables for the cooking class. We were shown around it a little. Next week got to check out the kitchen we will use, which is an authentic outdoor but covered Sri Lanka kitchen. The hosts showed us the ingredients we were to use which were all fresh and very aromatic. They described to us the growing process, taste and health benefits of each. The cooking was really comprehensive and we got to try out all parts of it, guided by nilla the Chef. After, the meal was all prepped for us and we were shown how to eat in a Sri Lanka way, and the food tasted amazing! Photos were taken throughout and sent to us after, and so were the recipes. They sorted us a tuk tuk home afterwards too, and got dropped off at the hostel almost too full to move!
A once in a lifetime cooking class that was calming, educational and truly good for the soul. Nila was a perfect host and guided us as we made 8 fantastic dishes.
I had an amazing cooking class with Nila! She was an excellent teacher and taught me how to make 8 dishes in total. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the outdoor cooking environment was so much fun! I would absolutely recommend this class
We had an amazing experience. We had introduction to Ayurveda plants and its powers in healing. We had some relaxing massage. This was totally unexpected but really awesome experience that we got more than we paid for. The cooking part as amazing. We made a lot of different curries while trying the ingredients and were involved in all cooking process. And what me made was the best curries we’ve tasted while being in Sri Lanka.
WOW… the flavors were just so amazing! Best meal in Sri Lanka. Our hosts Nila and Manju made us feel like family learning the special recipes. I very much enjoyed this class and look forward to cooking these recipes for my family when I get home!
One of the best experiences we had! Amazing vibes, delicious food, and amazing hospitapility. Truly, when you see people putting their hearts in what they do, you cannot be thankful enough. Thanks for the lovely evening!
An amazing experience! We cooked 7 beautiful dishes, all guided by our fabulous chef who took her time to talk us through all of the ingredients. Everything is locally grown, which added to the fresh taste. Excellently catered for all dietary needs, and made a cooking experience in a foreign country for a nut allergy sufferer thoroughly enjoyable. A must do when in Kandy!!
I have cooked with local People. I learned couple of foods. very nice atmosphere and at the end you will get a lot of information about Sri Lanka food and culture.
We had an incredible experience learning about Sri Lankan cuisine and how to make 8 dishes. We spent the afternoon in a village open kitchen with our chef-teacher who taught us everything and finished the night enjoying our big meal.
We are a group of 10 who travel often and have attended cooking classes worldwide. This one exceeded expectations. The staff went above and beyond to provide an authentic experience. They were incredibly helpful when severe rain could dampened (lol) the experience. You can’t miss this when visiting Kandy!
This was such a fantastic experience and exceeded all our expectations! The hosts were so welcoming and went above and beyond to look after us, and teach us about Sri Lankan cooking and spices. We were able to bring our own drinks, and members of our group could join in with the preparation as much or as little as they liked. The food was amazing - our favourite meal of the holiday. Would highly recommended!
Great experience with nice, kind and friendly people. They showed us how to cook a very tasty meal. They even gave me a herbal drink for my stomach pains i had earlier. They support the students in the city and they use only natural products for everything. Tip: Book the cooking course before 4 pm otherwise it starts to get dark.
We had a good experience at the Kandy Spice Walk 101. Agni guided us through the Spice garden and told us about the spices and coconuts that grow here. He was patiënt and kind. The Spice tour was followed by a cooking class. We learned to make coconut sambal and dahl curry. Afterwards we got the ingredients and how to make the curry on a paper. The cooking class showed the basics of making a curry. It takes not very long but shows all the basics. They offered to give us a massage which we loved. At the end you can give a donation or buy something from their store. We decided not to buy anything but give a donation for the tour and the massage. This was perfectly fine. We donated 1500 LKR which we think is a good deal for the tour, cooking class and massage. We recommend.
We had such a nice time! The staff were so lovely and we cooked such amazing food. Overall an amazing experience would definitely recommend to anyone hoping to experience Sri Lankan culture
Such a fun experience! The food was incredible and the staff were upbeat and super accommodating. Love the authentic vibes. Massage was a great price and really good. So relaxing. Left full and happy.
Unexpectedly came here for lunch and came back for dinner! Great people and amazing food! One for the books 🧡
Absolutely fantastic, knowledgeable and helpful hosts. The food was brilliant. 100% would recommend.
Chef Nila taught us the simplicity of Sri Lankan cooking and was very patient with us . Definitely will take some of these recipes home
The food was really good and the people that worked at the place were all so friendly and they really help you with making dinner and teach about their culture. 100% would recommend!
We discovered this through our local friend, who recommend their massages, products and cooking class. After asking around we decided to do our own cooking class and it was an unforgettable experience. Thank you my friends.
