Overall, I'm glad I did this. To start with the transport, I was not happy with travelling by tuk tuk for a combined 4 hours to get there and back from Kandy. This should have been mentioned. I apparently opted for the most challenging version of this, the hike was incredibly difficult and intense at times but the sightseeing and overall experience was exhilarating. Guide was good although I also think it needs to be mentioned that you're going through thick and dense jungle where the trees and plants are literally in your face - take gloves if you're not keen on touching unfamiliar trees and plants. Take a change of clothes and swimwear, take some snacks, take plenty of water. Take quality hiking shoes and be sure to stretch your legs before starting. Would probably recommend and would do again, hopefully not in a monsoon next time.

We had a wonderful day. The hike was challenging but definitely worth it. Our guide was excellent. Thoroughly recommend!
This was an absolutely incredible hike through The Knuckles Range in Sri Lanka’s spectacular hill country! My guide was wonderful - professional, knowledgeable and open - we moved at an appropriate pace through the range, as he pointed out various flora, fauna and features endemic to this fascinating region. I was visiting the country in the off season, so I was the only traveller hiking, which made this experience even more intimate. This is certainly not for the faint hearted - you definitely need a base level of fitness, come prepared to truly sweat, with all of the proper gear including a durable pair of hiking boots. I was exhausted by the end of it, but it was one of the best experiences of my life, to get to the summit of the range, and see the surroundings, is a moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life. A delicious traditional Sri Lankan lunch is included, and we stopped for a simple breakfast before the hike, and a much needed tea break at the end of it. I couldn’t recommend this experience enough!
Nestled within the picturesque Knuckles mountain range of Sri Lanka, Dumbara Falls is a hidden gem that showcases the region's stunning natural beauty. You will come across this waterfall while hiking Duwili Falls. This Dumbara Falls Hike is prepared for people who are unable to walk to Dusty Falls. As hikers make their way through the verdant trails, they are enveloped by the soothing sounds of nature and the refreshing mist created by the waterfall.with its impressive cascade plunging into a crystal-clear pool, is a sight to behold and offers a serene spot for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Loved the experience - would recommend to family and friends. So far it has been the highlight of our trip. The guide took time to explain flora and fauna to us including some historical facts. We stopped for a lovely local breakfast on the way and enjoyed a delicious meal at the top of the second knuckle. Make sure to bring good walking shoes as going downhill on trainers could be strenuous. Thank you to our fantastic guide, you made our time in Sri Lanka very special. All in all, a memory we will never forget. Shoutout to the driver, he was great.
AMAZING! Wonderful day trip with a guide with great knowledge of local plants. I found this tour last minute and it has been a highlight of my Sri Lanka trip 100% recommend Beautiful views without heaps of people around, even finished with a fresh waterfall shower
We had a crappy weather when we did the tour on 1st Jan 2024 - it was raining the whole time in the jungle. However, we still had a fantastic time being out in the nature and hiking through the trail. The knuckles reserve is very clean, and well conserved. We saw lots of flowing waterfalls and walked through some of them as part of the trail. Our guide, Manju, was AMAZING! He put our safety as the no.1 priority and always observed where we put the feet on in case it’s slippery rocks.
Had a wonderful guided trek up Knuckles range - with lovely views and mostly clear skies along the way. Was also shown various types of endemic plants and wildlife by Lakmal, who was both knowledgeable and attentive. He had even prepped leech socks, which were extremely helpful!
We had an amazing hiking experience with Lakmal. He could tell us a lot about the knuckles range area, the endemic plants and about Sri Lankan history. The hike was beautiful and perfectly organised with a good lunch and transfer pickup. Experienced and safe driver aswell. Would highly recommend. Would advise to wear long trousers and sleeves since the hike is really in the mountains and forest.
A nice trekking - day in the Knuckles range , we really enjoyed the cloud forest, which I have never seen before! Thank you very much for this wonderful trekking adventure day and showing us this incredible Knuckles range ! We really enjoyed the day!
The Tour in Knuckles range was phantastic! a great experience of the most beautiful nature! Thank you for showing us all the colors, tastes, aromas, animals and plants! we'll have nice dreams about today's trekking!
Had an amazing trip with Lakmal from Nature Paradise Tours. The hiking through different landscapes include a lot of amazing nature to see and explore. You need a certain fitness level to do the trail and light weight in your Backpack. Lakmal had a lot of knowledge to Share.
It was such a great experience. We are very thankful for having experienced these days in the middle of the mountains. It was something memorable!! Thank you Lakmal, you made it easy! I would highly recommend Trekking with this agency and if I ever do another trek, I will absolutely be booking another #guide through #natureparadisetours #SriLanka Prepare to be captivated, inspired, and transformed as you embark on a #trekking / #hiking experience like no other.
Wow! What a trek this was! I was shown hidden waterfalls, lizards, crabs, spiders... Lakmal (guide) is truly a wildlife expert!! If was provided drinks, snacks, locally made food throughout my trek too, which was included in the price! If I ever come Sri Lanka again, I will definitely be doing another trek with Lakmal. If you love adventure, this is what you need.

a wonderful hike through the Sri Lankan jungle, highly recommended, but you should be fit and wear sturdy shoes. our guide was very friendly and showed us and explained special features that are hidden in the jungle.
Absolutely amazing experience. Lakmal had extensive knowledge of the area as well as local traditions and nature and wildlife. The trail took us to the highest point in the knuckles (misty mountain) where we stopped to enjoy the lunch provided, which was picked up on the way, made fresh from a local cafe. Absolutely everything you could need was provided, including plenty of great local food! We would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys an adventure and great landscapes. I would say a baseline good level of fitness is required and comfy shoes! Lakmal is friendly, knowledgable and gave us an amazing tour. It was a great addition to our trip and an amazing way to see the beauty of Sri Lanka.
The hike was unique, you can’t experience that on your own and Shyamal and his lovely driver were the perfect guide for it! First they took me to a coffee place were we also had some local food and after that they drove me to the starting point. We did a long but truly amazing hike with stunning nature and views. Shyamal explained the local plants and animals to me and let me try some of the fruits. After the lunch on top of the mountain we went to a waterfall and took a bath there, so make sure to bring swimming clothes. Then we went back were the driver picked us up and brought me home to my hostel. I would definitely recommend the tour because it was an unique experience in the nature and I had a great time!
As is written, you will be dirty, muddy and sweaty, but it is worth it. There are really beautiful views and landscape. We all enjoyed it.
The guide Shagal and driver were friendly and warm people. On the trail, I could find many spectacular view points and some interesting animals thanks to Shagal.
This trekking route was awesome. You’re looking for adventure and want to enjoy the nature without any other tourists? Do this! Lekmal is a wonderful person, always made me feel safe and was able to explain everything whatever I wanted to know. Thank you so much for this unforgettable 9h trekking route.
If Sri Lanka is your summer escape this year to be one with the nature, this is the best camping / hiking experience she can offer. You can have an excellent service from the guides to experience the environment from leopard trails, hiking, cascading waterfalls, exotic birds and much more. The magical nights this offers is a bonus with campings and BBQs under starry skies with great company. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to explore this paradise of a country with Nature Paradise Tours.
We were picked up from our hotel in Kandy in the morning. Afterwards, we went for typical Sri Lankan breakfast together with our guide to strengthen ourselves for the hike. There we were also prepared a packed lunch. After another 40 minutes drive we reached the Knuckels Mountains. The Hike is fantastic. Every few meters in altitude, the landscape changes. At the top of Lepard Mountain there are incredible views, but the climb is a bit challenging, so good physical fitness is an important requirement. Just a great and recommended experience.
It would have been great if it hadn't rained. The adventure route to the waterfall basin was fun. It might be a little difficult for beginners.
Tough hike and in parts you had to use both hands and feet, but you were well rewarded when you reached the upper waterfall and got to take a cooling dip. My guide Manju was great and could explain everything we saw and was happy to tell me and make sure I got up and down safely. Even the train ride from and to Kandy was very beautiful.
We had a wonderful 2-day trek in the Knuckles. The scenery was amazing! Stock up on nature and tranquility! Explore the rice fields and jungle, discover various plants, trees and flowers. And what about our great guide Lakmal, who was very caring with us, from start to finish! This trek would not have been the same without him! It was a great pleasure for him to share with us his many knowledge about this magical place, its culture and Sri Lanka! Favourite assured! 🥰I recommend! The 2 days is definitely worth it! Thank you! 🙏
Excellent trip and very teaching speaker Good English speaker explains and teaches everything. The views are breathtaking and equal the difficulty of the route
The most important first: Good footwear, long socks or pants, change clothes, medium-good fitness, no back problems The hike through the Knuckels was really a special experience. In addition to the hike itself, you have learned about some unique plants, various crops (tea, coffee), spices (pepper, cardamom, lemongrass) and animals (lizards, monkeys, birds). After we were picked up at the hotel in the morning, we first drove about 45-60min near the Knuckels. In a small village in the mountains, we stopped and got to know some local breakfast specialties in a local cafe and were provided with coffee and tea. Our guide (good English) explained the different treats and you had the opportunity to go to a real (Sri Lankan) toilet again. Since the Knuckels are not (yet) touristically developed or overlaid, the sight of tourists is probably rather a rarity. You could tell how proud the owners were to serve us and even on the street the children looked not infrequently is with open mouths behind. After another 45 min through partly hilly terrain along tea plantations, we had reached the starting point. We were provided with water and the guide sprayed our shoes with an anti-insect protection. We also got our lunch. Since the Knuckels are a protected area, there are no toilets, shops, bistros, but only nature. Everything you need for the tour you have to take in and all the garbage out again. But the guide also pays close attention to this! The tour is about 20 km (10km each way) long according to the guide, the mobile phone tracker says 16 km, but since the reception is moderate, the truth is probably in between. In total, you make 700-800 meters of altitude on the route. You can roughly divide the tour into three parts (easy, medium, hard). It began with the easy part and paved paths between the tea fields. After leaving the right trails and entering the actual "Knuckle Nature Trail", a first highlight followed: a waterfall. Here you can refresh yourself and take some nice photos. It is not recommended to go there too late, as the place is also very popular with locals. This is followed by the middle part with many (large) steps and moderate ascent through open, partly forested terrain. The last part then goes up the mountain quite steeply with hands and feet. Especially for the last part, good shoes (no sneakers or flip flops) and the change clothes are recommended. You climb up roots and stones, get dirty and have to partly in a bent-over position (I am 1.83cm) through the thicket of the forest. Once at the top you can enjoy the wonderful view and lunch. There was rice with different vegetables/dips/pastes. The food was delicious and good after the exhausting climb. After a longer break, it then goes back down. There are basically two ways here that you could go back. However, as we climbed very slowly and were also pretty much at the end of our strength, we went the same way back. The second option would probably be about 1 hour longer. During the tour our guide explained the flora and fauna and we had the opportunity to taste the spices as well. During small stops he has taken the time to explain the plants or to draw attention to animals. He was always helpful and assisted in difficult-to-reach places during ascent and descent. Also, he has always kept an eye on the leeches. Unfortunately, these plague spirits are present a lot in the forest, so it may be worth wearing long clothes and looking down regularly. In total it took us about 7-8 hours for the hike. With round trip to Kandy a total of 12 hours I can recommend this tour to anyone! It really is a unique experience. The combination of wildlife and plants with the hike is truly breathtaking. Since we met only a handful of natives on the way it is additionally unique! Also the guide, food, transfer were great!
