The Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya was established in 1821, six years after the final occupation of the Kandyan Kingdom by the English. The site is less than 5.5 Km from Kandy on the Colombo Road, and occupies a loop of the river Mahaweli, which surrounds it on all sides except the south, where it is bounded by the main road. The area 61.25 ha in extent, is about 1550ft from sea level. More than 4000 species of plants including woody trees, Palms, Ferns, Orchids and shrubs currently present within the gardens.
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship, where the left Canine tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. The temple which is venerated by thousands of local & foreign devotees and tourists daily was named as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1988.

The wood carving tradition of Sri Lanka dates back to ancient times. To this day the island has dedicated wood carvers, who lovingly and painstakingly adorn their wood carving works of art until they become true masterpieces.
The tour was really interesting. Ramzan was very kind, took us to many places, gave us great recommendations, and looked after us throughout the day. We visited several temples, various craft workshops, and a tea factory, among other places. He also stopped so we could try some local fruits, which were delicious. It was a wonderful experience overall. 100% recommended!!

The driver, Janet, was on time, friendly, and communicated well with us . He was very knowledgeable about the White Buddhist area, and facilitated our being told by onsite experts about the herb garden and tea factory. His driving was proficient and safe.

We had the best time and really enjoyed the tour. We visited all places in Kandy and especially liked the tea factory. Although you don‘t visit a big tea plantage, you learn about different types of tea and their production. We visited every place in Kandy we wanted, even though it wasn‘t included and he taught us about sri lankas history, the kingdoms and colonial period. We got lunch at a very sweet, not touristic place and he invited us to try all the tasty common sri lankan dishes and snacks. We can really recommand the tour, although we didn‘t make a batik-workshop. We saw every sight in Kandy and even more!! We really enjoyed the tour. Our guide showed us around the museum at the stupa and explained some of the features of Buddhism and SL history. We could choose which places we wanted to visit from a list. Really good value.
Chintha our Driver was very nice & kind , fully discussed with us exactly what we wanted out of our day as unfortunately it was raining heavily. He even book us a last minute Dance show which was excellent. Went to the tea factory , lady there Danuksha was so helpful. Despite the rain we really enjoyed our day.

We had a wonderful couple of days being shown around Kandy by Chintha. He was reliable - was always on time & at the pre arranged place; courteous; discussed what and where we wanted to go without pushing places we had no interest in going; and we felt really safe driving in the Tuk Tuk with him. It was a fab trip & I would have no hesitation recommending Chintha as a Tuk Tuk driver/guide.
Definitely book Kandy city guided tuk tuk tours and ask for Dhanu as your guide to get an action packed day. Or if you want to slow down the pace I’m sure he will do that too, Nothing is too much. He goes out of his way to give you a memorable experience if what you want. And he will help you decide if your not sure of what you want in your your. Today was a whirlwind day full of the best and most exciting experiences in Kandy. And Dhanu is not just a fabulous knowledgeable Sri Lankan local, he is a super safe driver in these crazy roads and weaving in between other vehicles. I can’t say enough about Dhanu as an expert guide, and a super fun person to share the day with. He really went above and beyond to ensure I had fun and enjoyed Kandy. If you want culture, nature, gemstones, wood carvings, views, local food, and even the jungle in the middle of Kandy! And he managed to show me monkeys all in one day! And he’ll take great pictures of you so you have some memories being in the photos. Definitely ask for Dhanu.

Excellent overview of the city by tuk-tuk. We were happy for Akila to choose where we visited but if you have ideas as to where you want to go he’ll happily accommodate. The visit to the tea factory was a long drive but we enjoyed the experience there. Our favourite stop was the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens where we had plenty of time to enjoy the peace and wonderful trees. The cultural dance was ok too ( I’m not usually a fan) but by 6.30 pm we were exhausted and Buddahed-out and so passed on the Temple of the Tooth visit. Maybe tomorrow but then again maybe not. Akila is a great driver through horrendous traffic. We always felt safe and found him to be courteous and punctual. Highly recommended.
Mr pradeep kumar was beyond words brilliant from the start. He knew the city well and showed us around all the lovely and beautiful places around kandy. Thanks to his excellent communication we got around in time and managed to complete all the famous sports of kandy city. Highly recommend him.
The tour was amazing! We saw everything Kandy has to offer and then some! Our driver (Danu) was amazing and tailormade the tour to our likings. Especially his explanation at the temple of the Big Buddha was very interesting. He also showed us very nice views of Kandy. We only had one day in Kandy, but thanks to Danu we didnt miss a thing!

I had an amazing day with Akila as my guide! From the start, he was incredibly nice and kind, and we reviewed the itinerary together to ensure it perfectly suited my interests. Exploring the beautiful city of Kandy with him was such a pleasure—he is so knowledgeable about the culture and history of Sri Lanka, and I learned so much throughout the day. Akila’s patience and smooth organization made the entire experience very relaxing. I felt completely at ease knowing that everything was taken care of. What’s even better is that Akila is happy to assist with train tickets if you contact him a bit in advance. This is incredibly helpful for traveling between cities, especially since booking train tickets online can sometimes be impossible online. I couldn’t recommend Akila more! If you’re visiting Kandy or Sri Lanka, he is the perfect guide to make your day informative, enjoyable, and stress-free.
The tour and guides were great! We skipped a couple things that didn’t interest us and they were fine with that! Definitely do yourself a favor and go with them! They even picked us up at our hotel since we had 3 tuktuks!
Despite the mixed weather we had a great day! The communication in advance via WhatsApp was easy and fast. The visit of the tea factory was exciting, and the Botanical Garden inspired us with its variety of plants. The ascent to the Ambuluwawa Tower was a real adventure, but the view was fantastic. Our guide Akila was super sympathetic and with his humorous nature not only told us a lot about the region, but also caused a lot of laughter. A really fun and well organized excursion – absolutely recommended!
This is an amazing tour of kandy city. You are picked up and dropped off at your hotel, visit many temples and attractions, and are able to pick up multiple souvenirs of your choosing along the way. The guide is a very friendly man with lots of stories and insights to share about the locations- which makes for an interesting trip. Make sure that you bring some cash along with you, as you stop off for lunch and may want to purchase things at the different stops. The tour is customisable to suit your wants, so I would recommend cutting certain things that you don’t really have an interest in (e.g. the gem museum is interesting, but it’s a short explanation of the mining experience and then you’re taken up to potentially buy some gems/ jewellery). I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore Kandy for the day! Great value.
