I really cant relate to the bad rating at all! The rooms were clean and well equipt, staff is very nice, competent and helpful, the Rooms got big balconies, ac, fan, TV, a big mirror aswell as a big comfortable bed. The wifi works very well! Its true, for breakfast you'll have to basically cross the street, no big problem, besides that it was great. So maybe some people need to realize that this isnt their home country and some things are just different...

Beautiful hotel with big rooms, swimming pool with view and great breakfast (best we had in Sri Lanka). Everything in walking distance. Had nice family stay there
This place is just great if your coming with family as they have a huge living area, complete with dining room and kitchen. Only setback that I found here was that the room was quite small, especially when I was travelling with my toddler. Another issue was a very limited vegetarian option. Although their service is very nice and the quality of food is great, but couldn't find much options here to eat. Breakfast was awesome though. Would recommend for families and friends. Won't recommend for those travelling with infants and toddlers.
Had a wonderful one night stay at this location. The rooms were spacious and clean. The washroom was really nice and the shower was amazing. The view of the city is also quite nice. The dining area has a nice view as well with along with a comfortable seating area. The breakfast was amazing. The chef prepares the food right with you in the kitchen. There is no pool at this hotel, but you can walk up to the sister hotel and take a swim there.
Serene grand "villa" is A great place to spend a few nights when visiting Kandy, the "Villa" is a sister hotel to the main hotel down the road. The " Serene Grand Hotel" Note the "villa" shares the same website as the main hotel. So note what property your booking. When we are next in Kandy we would definitely try to stay with this chain of hotels. We visited in Jan 2017 and the villa looked new at that point. Every thing was up to date and worked well. The only facilities out side the room was a small restaurant . The food was, competitively priced in rupees, and of good quality. Most hotels were on the hills around Kandy, and from this hotel on a hill, we could walk to the centre In less then 15 mins. We paid 300 rupees to get us back up the hill from the centre. -- Pros -- Everything was looking new. (2017) Two other sister hotels were also on the same road so the chain of hotels were able to share resorces when needed. Within 15 minutes Walking distance to the centre (for active people) . -- key points -- Hot water availablility - Unlimited from central boiler and solar. Shower strength - good water pressure Room Size - A good sized double bedroom and shower room. Hanging space and draws - adequate Insects - Large numbers of Ants on the floor, do not leave open food in the room or open water. Daily room cleaning - Good, and included insect treatment for the floors. Do not skip the room service or the ants will take over. Sound proofing - excellent Internet speed - Good for web browsing
