Absolutely wonderful experience 🌿✨ The location is beautiful, with stunning views and a peaceful natural environment. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. And the food was simply amazing — everything we had was delicious! 🍽️❤️ The only downside is the road to reach the lodge, which can be a little challenging and takes some time, especially going uphill. But honestly, once you arrive, it is completely worth it. Overall, a beautiful place, amazing food, wonderful staff, and a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended!
I recently stayed at Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge for two nights, booking the Penthouse, and overall it was a memorable experience with a few areas that could be improved. The location is undoubtedly the resort’s biggest highlight. Perched high above the Knuckles Mountain Range and surrounded by lush tea plantations, the panoramic views are absolutely breathtaking. Waking up to mist-covered mountains and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere made the stay truly special. If you’re looking to disconnect from the busy city and immerse yourself in nature, this is one of the best places in Sri Lanka. The Penthouse itself was comfortable and offered stunning views. However, considering the premium price tag, I expected a higher standard of finishes, maintenance, and overall presentation. There is definitely room for improvement and uplifting to better match the luxury experience guests are paying for. The food was average. While the presentation was good, the taste and variety didn’t quite meet expectations for a resort of this calibre. This is an area where the management could make significant improvements to enhance the overall guest experience. A special mention goes to Roshan from the service team. He was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and always willing to help, making our stay much more enjoyable. His professionalism and warm hospitality truly stood out. Overall, Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge is a fantastic destination for its spectacular scenery, peaceful surroundings, and unique eco-luxury concept. With improvements to the dining experience and some upgrades to the accommodation, it could easily justify its premium pricing. I would still recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing mountain escape, especially for the incredible views and tranquil atmosphere.
If like us, you had always wanted to wander through tea plantations - this is arguably the place to do it. The location is genuinely breathtaking and the staff looked after us very well. Many thanks for making a special birthday table for one of our party! We did a 4-hour hike with Kumar up into the higher hills through all the plantations. This was one of the highlights of our holiday. Kumar pointed out all the flora and fauna and picked delicious wild strawberries for us to eat. And nothing beats a great cup of tea after a good hike!
Very good hotel, but excessively priced. Pros: The scenery is absolutely exceptional despite the typically uncertain weather in these misty mountains. The hotel main areas are very pleasant (beautiful pool area with croquet, nice restaurant with the spectacular view, a much appreciated fireplace in the evenings as it gets pretty cold even in February. The staff and reception was kind and professional. Activities are nice, though a tad pricy. Cons: The honeymoon suite tent is getting quite old and need be modernised. It’s an effort each time to open/close the front wall, which is necessary to see the view. No heating in the room, so it gets very cold at night for Sri Lanka due to the altitude. Showers were sometimes cool-warm. Quite noisy in the night with many wild dogs barking. When it’s windy, it becomes very noisy. This can get a bit scary since the tents are technically open access. Spa is outside, which is very chilly after sunset (6pm).
