Itinerary
Kenrokuen is one of Japan’s 3 most beautiful gardens and a highlight of any visit to Kanazawa. The garden is designed for walking, with gently winding paths that lead past ponds, bridges, stone lanterns, and carefully maintained trees. Each season brings a different look, from fresh greenery in spring to snowy scenery in winter, making it enjoyable year-round.
Located beside Kenrokuen, Kanazawa Castle has long been a symbol of the city. Once home to the powerful Maeda clan, the castle grounds reflect Kanazawa’s importance during the samurai period. Today, visitors can walk through the spacious grounds, see the impressive stone walls, and explore reconstructed buildings that showcase traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Higashi Chaya is one of Kanazawa’s best-preserved historic districts. The area is known for its rows of wooden teahouses that date back to the Edo period, when geisha entertained guests here. Now, many of these buildings have been turned into cafes, sweet shops, and craft shops, making it a pleasant place to stroll and experience the city’s traditional atmosphere.
The Nagamachi Samurai District is a well-preserved area where visitors can experience the atmosphere of a traditional samurai neighborhood. Narrow stone-paved streets, earthen walls, and traditional houses create a setting that feels like stepping back into the Edo period. Visitors can stroll through the historic streets, see beautiful samurai residences, and enjoy small museums, gardens, and local craft shops. The district is especially charming in winter, when the walls are protected with traditional straw coverings called komo-gake, creating a unique seasonal landscape.
Omicho Market is known as the “Kitchen of Kanazawa.” This lively market is filled with local shops selling fresh seafood, seasonal vegetables, and regional specialties. Visitors can enjoy walking through the market, tasting local foods, and experiencing the vibrant atmosphere. Your guide will also take you to hidden spots in the market that are known mainly by locals, where you can discover authentic flavors and unique shops.

I’ve read many reviews about Aiko, and let me tell you- the reviews didn’t disappoint!! Aiko is so informative, insightful and most of all- an amazing person to hang around with (+ perfect English) Thank you Aiko for planning us a day to remember ♥️
Our private morning tour with Aiko was amazing. She was so knowledgable about the history of Kanazawa. She even had pictures to illustrate the history for us. She took us to the Myouryuji (Ninja) Temple first thing. The tour turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Kanazawa. The temple is really a disguise for a defense tower used to protect the Feudal Lord of the area at the time. It has multiple hidden traps and escape routes. Even though the tour is given in Japanese, we were given an easy to read tour book to help us follow along with the rest of the group. When we finished the tour, Aiko helped us buy Good Luck Charms from the temple. As we left the temple, Aiko pointed out a rare opportunity to see an elaborate shrine style hearst that was parked near the temple. The wooden hand carved and gold leaf animals and flowers were stunning to see. So happy Aiko pointed it out to us. We then took a short walk to the Nishi Chaya District, one of the historic Geisha areas. We got to check out a traditional tea house and walk past an active Geisha school. This area was a hidden gem, as it is off the beaten path and less crowded. We really enjoyed Aiko's tour, so we booked a follow-on tour with her in order to see the Samurai District and Castle. She's an awesome tour guide and so helpful!
Aiko was a really good guide. She speaks very good englisch and you can understand het very well. She is also a very kind person and really fun to talk to.
Aiko was amazing! She had great knowledge of all the historical facts of Edo period Japan, and also knew all the best places to visit away from tourists. She crafted a perfect itinerary for us and was very flexible in showing us what we were most interested in. She even came and picked us up at our hotel. Thank you Aiko!
Aiko was our tour guide. She was super amazing. We learned a lot. We got to learn about the Japanese history and culture, she happily answered our many questions. We highly recommend going on a tour with Aiko.
I did the Ninja Temple and Geisha districts tour with Aiko, and she was fantastic! I learnt a lot about geishas, tea ceremony and the history of Kanazawa. Highly recommend Aiko!
Aiko was the best guide. I learned a lot about sushi, local culture and the history of Kanazawa. I highly recommend booking a tour with Aiko!
I love how our tou guide Aiko introduced how and where the Kanazawa and Japanese history along the way to the scenic spots we visited like Castle here.
It’s a fun and knowledgeable tour to understand about Koji. Our lovely and cute tour guide Aiko had great help for the introduction and translation. Looking forward to next trip meet Aiko for great help next time. Thank you very much, Aiko.
We had a walking tour in Kanazawa with Rosa and Yuji as our guides. The tour was top grade, everything very well explained. I highly recommend it.
Those guys were great and so fun! Really enjoyed the tour in Kanazawa
Aiko was a lovely tour guide. Her love for Kanazawa showed and we really enjoyed our time with her.
We scheduled a tour the day before, we met the next morning near the market with our guide Yuji, it turned out that we were alone on the tour and it was excellent, a truly private tour. Yuji explained the places to us and took us to interesting and delicious places. It was a lot of fun, he is very nice and funny and showed us places we didn't know. Highly recommend the tour and especially Yuji the guide.
We took this tour today with Momo, who did a really great job. The tour was very informative with lots of background information about the castle, the garden, and the underlying history. We never would have noticed much of that on our own. The garden is rightly one of the top 3 gardens in Japan. Wonderful design, unusually relaxed even with other tourists. Many good impressions in a short time, without it having felt rushed. Clear recommendation!
We were lucky that Aiko was our guide. A super nice girl who is not only your guide, but also open to answer questions about daily life in Japan. Because it was a private tour, we could fully determine the pace and route. Because it was sweltering hot we chose several stops at tents and shops with air conditioners, ha ha ha. Ask for Aiko when you visit Kanazawa, you won't get a whiff of it.
It was fun, and our tutor Aiko was good at telling a lot about Japan’s history and culture. There was also another tour guide named Yuji
It was a very good tour with many new impressions. Our tour guide Aiko (愛子) was very friendly, helpful and responded well to our questions. 有り難うございます 😊
The guides were very knowledgeable and passionate. They made the visit of Kanazawa interesting and also fun, explaining the history, traditions and curiosities of the city. Nice!
Koki is a wonderful person, full of enthusiasm! Great tour.
