The teacher was well organized and gave us time to choose a kanji, practice applying ink to paper, and then to create our own scroll or fan. The teacher was very patient and encouraging. I was glad I chose this experience.

This class was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan and was very authentic. Daiki is a great teacher and was very generous with his time. We are excited to practice more at home.
Fantastic experience. Instructor was very knowledgeable and kind and was a skilled teacher. Very worthwhile experience. Highly recommended.
beautiful experience. one of the best in Kanazawa. we loved the atmosphere, the scrolls and the fans are beautiful quality and their team is lovely! we are very picky but this one we truly recommend❤️❤️❤️
This calygraphy course was a perfect experience with our family. Even our sons (aged 18 and 13) enjoyed it very much. It was both knowledgeable and fun to do. Time flew by! Highly recommended
Naomi was very kind as she introduced the basics of calligraphy to us. There were practice sheets for basic strokes and then we practiced the strokes to form the character we chose to put on our fans. Nice build up to the final product. I have a greater appreciation now for the art after having tried it.
Excellent instruction. Approachable activity even for non artists! Cool to try something integral to Japanese culture.
Very hands-on / fun teaching!
This was a lovely morning. Out calligraphy master (Daiko ? ) was so nice and patient. They helped us create beautiful take home memories. We did not feel rushed and we had feedback also to improve our brush strokes.
Kind, helpful and patient teacher. I was the only person, so i ended up with a private lesson. Very organized and end with a nice Calligraphy scroll or fan
Wonderful kind and patient teacher. Lots of instruction and finish with your own scroll or fan. Highly recommend as they create such a warm and welcoming experience
We had a wonderful time learning calligraphy with Yoshie in Kanazawa today! She was very patient with us and did a great job guiding us to learn the basic brush strokes. We got to pick out a word to create in kanji and Yoshie helped us practice and trace the word until we were confident enough to do it on the scrolls! Really fun and educational. The center is easy to find and very welcoming to our English speaking selves :)
We had an amazing experience with Yuko today! Great value for a private class, too. We also got to wear a kimono during the class. The experience is one hour long and it was the perfect length to practice the various techniques and then complete our final piece. Thank you Yuko!
When we articed, it was just us in the group. We hadn't asked for a private session so that was lovely. The instructors were very patient and we'd plenty of practise before creating our final drawings. The Kanazawa Loop Bus bus was nearby. The pieces we're bringing home are very special souvenirs from our trip.
Excellent class. Engaging and fun with a beautiful keepsake. My daughter and son, ages 12 and 15, both loved it as well.
Fun experience with a lot of great individual instruction time. Very cool souvenir to return home with.
What fun! We had the opportunity to learn calligraphy from two lovely Japanese women. They were patient and kind as we created keepsakes from our time in Kanazawa! We highly recommend!
We extremely enjoyed our calligraphy session. You both were very helpful throughout the lessons due to which we were able to grasp and create such a beautiful masterpiece. We enjoyed having conversations with you about Anime and Japanese cartoon. We loved the origami pieces made by your student. We look forward to coming again soon with more of our friends for another calligraphy class.
Excellent cultural experience in Culture Lab Nomachi - Kanazawa. 40 minutes of total relaxation while learning and creating our own Japanese calligraphy poster. An authentic space to connect with art and tradition. Highly recommended. They speak English and are very friendly with tourists.
I cannot recommend this class enough to anyone visiting Kanazawa. Yuko is a lovely and supportive teacher and helped make everything feel as accessible and relaxed as possible. Would definitely return to again. Thank you Yuko!
An incredible cultural experience in Kanazawa. During our trip through Japan we had the opportunity to do a Japanese calligraphy (Shodō) activity and learn to write different kanji. The experience was much more than simply learning to write: they explained the meaning of the characters, the technique, and the importance of each stroke within Japanese culture. The atmosphere was very pleasant and we were able to enjoy a traditional and authentic activity, something we especially recommend if you are looking for what to do in Kanazawa and want to know a different part of Japanese culture. Also, being able to take our own calligraphy home as a souvenir made the experience even more special. Without a doubt, one of the cultural activities we enjoyed the most in Kanazawa. Highly recommended if you visit the city and want to have a different Japanese experience!
While planning my trip to Kanazawa, I stumbled upon a calligraphy experience, and it looked fun so I booked and tried it. The atmosphere was wonderful, and I lost track of time because it was so enjoyable! The experience started with basic dot and stroke writing practice, and then after choosing a desired word, we would copy a sample written by the teacher, practice it several times, and finally write it on a scroll or fan, finishing by writing our names with a small brush. Of course, you can take the finished work! I went in having forgotten almost everything I learned in elementary school art class about calligraphy, but they explained things in detail (and the English explanations were very good, perhaps because it's popular in the West), and they kept praising me even when I wasn't good, so I could do it happily. Both teachers were so kind, and since I'm the first Korean, they even wrote a gift in Hangul, which was so touching... I was so surprised because they wrote so well that I thought a Korean calligrapher had written it. I thought professionals are different. I don't usually write reviews, but the homey atmosphere of the calligraphy academy was wonderful, and I feel like I made some really pleasant memories in many ways, so I'm leaving this note with a grateful heart! It was really fun.Thank you!
We just came from the workshop, which lasted a little over 1 hour. Unreserved recommendation. Materials top-notch, learning sheets top-notch, a new photo at the end; it is simply fun and brings you down from the hectic hustle and bustle. Our 9-year-old daughter also got along great and proudly designed a banner. (Alternatively fans, but that is much more difficult because of the folds.)
Thank you very much for this calligraphy experience! We liked the course that allowed us to do our calligraphy on roller (or fan, of your choice), the course is well thought out, it allowed us to train in a pedagogical way before embarking on our final realization! The teacher is very kind, comfortable and attentive, the place is relaxing! We recommend this experience!
Very nice professionals and very smiling.
Very nice, the teacher Yuko very sweet and sunny :)
It was a very good experience from Naomi. Highly recommended!! We had 1h, she is very patient and friendly, she explained all the techniques and what you did not get, she put the best vibe and helped you improve it. At the end of the class, you can paint your canvas but first you practice a few times
Lovely experience, cute people who took care of us and taught. Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in ancient Japanese culture and wants a beautiful souvenir made by yourself.
