Was a great trip to Shirakawago and were provided with aplenty free time to walk around and also get lunch - especially given the amount of people also there, what I thought sounded like a long time ended up being just enough! However, it was such a beautiful town that I was glad to have seen. We then returned to Kanazawa where we first went to the Kenroku-en Gardens. Our guide gave us an introduction within the Gardens, and took us to some of the key sights within and then again allowed us free time to explore. It was then back into the bus for the final stop which was the Geisha and Tea district. For me, I could probably have skipped this portion of the day, we were allowed a lot of time to walk around this small area, and I chose to return to my hotel instead. One thing I think should have been mentioned is the tour relied heavily on having data access, as there were a lot of messages, including recommendations on Shirakawago locations done via WhatsApp. Finally, to finish on a high note, I loved our guide, Alejandro's, fun facts at each of the locations we went to. I love me some random knowledge!

Itinerary
Your journey begins at Kanazawa City Centennial Monument, where you will meet your guide and fellow travelers. A comfortable bus will take you to the first destination
The first stop is the charming village of Shirakawago, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This picturesque village is famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri houses, with steep thatched roofs shaped like praying hands, designed to withstand heavy snowfall. Then, board the bus and head towards Kenrokuen Garden for the next part of the journey.
The tour continues to Kenrokuen, considered one of Japan’s most beautiful gardens and a true oasis of art and nature. Its ponds reflecting trees and flowers, elegant bridges, stone lanterns, and carefully designed pathways offer a unique experience of harmony and tranquility, no matter the season. For those who are only participating in the Shirakawago tour, the corresponding stop is made at this point before continuing the route. Please note that for this option, admission to Kenrokuen Garden is not included. If you select the option that includes Kanazawa, after visiting Kenrokuen, there will be a walk to the Higashi Chaya district.
If you selected the option that includes the visit to Kanazawa, after visiting the garden, the itinerary heads to the historic district of Higashi Chaya. Step into the historic district of Higashi Chaya and wander along its picturesque cobblestone streets, framed by beautifully preserved teahouses that echo the elegance of the Edo period. Renowned for its geishas, who continue to uphold Japan’s traditional arts, this district offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and living tradition—an ideal setting for a truly authentic Japanese experience.
Once the visit to Higashi Chaya is over, begin the journey back to Kanazawa Station

Interesting and enjoyable trip with an excellent guide.
An excellent tour, full of interest and with an informative guide.
This tour is an excellent choice. Full day tour to Shirakawa - Go, Kenrokeun Gardens and Hisgashi Chaya District was very enjoyable and informative. tour pace was very well planned and historical/cultural information of each place was well conducted by Heli. She is very knowledgeable of the places history, culture and background. She explains it very clearly in both English and repeated in Spanish language . Bus captain Maihama-san is a safe and respectful man. The bus journey was so enjoyable, safe and timely. . Fully recommend this tour program, and guide Heli, bus captain Maihama-san to anyone who is in Kanazawa for a tour to these places. Review by Judy & Thomas (Singapore) October 23, 2026
Great guide and a smooth journey. Had about 3 hours in the village, which I think was a good amount of time. Would recommend.
Our visit to Shirakawa-go was unforgettable, and our guide Jorge made it even better. Beyond showing us the beautiful thatched-roof farmhouses and village views, he shared a lot of insight into Japanese culture and traditions, which helped us appreciate what we were seeing. A real bonus was learning how the Japanese language works. Jorge explained it in a clear, fun way that made it easy to follow, and it changed how we noticed signs and conversations for the rest of our trip. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing Japan with visitors. If you're heading to Shirakawa-go, we highly recommend booking a tour with Jorge!
Jorge was a delightful guide. His vast depth of international experiences along with his insider's and outsider's perspective of Japanese culture adds an extra layer of depth. The locations were very pretty as well, but Jorge was the stand-out act.
The experience was great. The guide provided excellent historical context and clear explanations that helped us better understand the significance of the places we visited. Transportation was also well organized and comfortable. One area for improvement would be the amount of free time in Shirakawa-go. The time allocated felt quite limited, especially considering that it also included lunch, and restaurants in the village can fill up quickly. I would recommend extending the free time by at least 30 minutes, or ideally an hour, to give visitors more time to enjoy their meal and explore the village at a more relaxed pace.
Comprehensive tour with Cesar who answered all questions.
Caesar was an amazing tour guide. His knowledge of the sites we visited was outstanding. He knew details about each location that we visited that was so beneficial to understanding the history and the culture. I am spoiled for using anyone else. Great job all around.
A tour to Shirakawa-go with Amigo Tours Kanazawa and our guide Cezar was very good. Cesar told us a lot about history of the Japan, history of this region and life in Japan. It was a great day, even the weather cooperated. Comfortable bus, safe driver, clear instructions what to see and when and where we are meeting. We absolutely recommend this tour.
Although it was another rainy day, it was so lovely to get away from Japan’s cities and see some green space! This is a lovely old village with distinct architecture and beautiful sights! I only went into one of the open homes - Wanda - which showcased a fascinating family history. There are some lovely souvenir shops as well, but so many stunning photogenic vistas! You won’t be disappointed!
Very nice experience with Melody.
It was a very immersive experience with our guide Melody and driver Tsuru. We were given plenty of time to experience the village of Shirakawago without being rushed, thanks to both of them.
Really nice experience. Nice place, peacefull, relaxing. An old and genuine way to live in Shiragawago. Really important to respect and to mantain a so lovely place. The guide Hely really nice and clear in explanation.
We had a wonderful day out! Shirakawa-go is such a beautiful and unique village — truly one of a kind in the world. We had a fantastic time exploring the village and, of course, enjoyed some delicious pudding at the acclaimed Pudding House. Kenrokuen Garden certainly deserves its reputation as one of Japan’s Three Great Gardens. It was absolutely beautiful and a real highlight of the tour. The day concluded with a visit to Higashi Chaya, Kanazawa’s historic geisha district. It is just as charming and atmospheric as Kyoto’s famous geisha quarters, but with far fewer crowds, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Our guide, Cesar, was excellent. He provided us with lots of interesting and detailed background information and patiently translated everything into perfect English for us. Our driver, Hirano-san, drove us safely throughout the day and even kindly lent us an umbrella when it started to drizzle. Overall, the tour was perfectly organized from beginning to end. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
Thank you Jorge for giving us a wonderful experience filled with lots of interesting stories and facts about Japan! We enjoyed our visit to Shirakawa and would highly recommend to book with you again :)
Jorge is an amazing guide, fun and hardworking, teaching a lot about places and japan culture; emperor should bow (Jorge can explain why)
Hirano & Jorge are great! Jorge is an amazing and funny tour guide very informative! :)
Cesar was very interactive with the group. Knowledgeable with the history of the places we went. His recommendations were top notch as well. Shirakawa-go was beautiful and clean despite being a little too crowded. Kenrokuen was beautiful and clean but not enough time to experience it all. Higashi Chaya District was like a smaller Gion and less geishas which is good, so we don’t bother them. Shoutout to Yamafuji-san, great driver that safely delivered us to all these places.
Very good and interesting trip with Alejandro and Sakasita san, he knows very well the history and the facts of the area. Willing to reply all the questions and always with a smile
Great day out. Really enjoyed the experience. Thank you to Angeles for guiding us all and keeping the group together.
Hirano was a great bus driver! Very kind and friendly. Heli was a great tour guide and very nice to interact with.
Hirano and Heli were great! Absolutely loved the itinerary.
Amigo tours provided a terrible service. They provided prepaid electronic tickets that had to be exchanged at the station but the QR codes were not working. The machine could not read them. Second of all the guide was awful. He sat on the bus with little interaction and showed no interest in helping anyone. The worst guide I have ever had. Also it would have helped to know that the monument was the one outside the train station. All they said was walking distance but no picture of it or what it looked like. Overall the worst experience. I do not recommend this tour at all.
Did not receive what was described within the itinerary. Talks of 1 hour drive and 4 hour stop at shirakawa-go became 1h drive and 2h30 only. Rushed the area, missed 1 important building, and rushed food. Booked this for the reason of 4h of time to explore. Guide Angeles talks nonstop on the bus, in both English and Spanish which can be a bit much. Telling us about how this will be a protagonist of good time 5 times then being rushed makes no sense.
Lili was an excellent tour guide, highly informative, friendly and considerate! She was funny and spoke so many languages. This guide made the trip so much easier.
loved it the guide was super sweet
Everything was very good from when Angeles met us promptly, very helpful and very knowledgeable. Always happy to answer any questions we had. Very enjoyable day trip.
Cesar and Hirano-san were great today! Cesar is very knowledgeable — we learned a lot about the sites we visited and also about Japanese culture in general. The ride was also very smooth. Arigatoo gozaimasu, Hirano-san! 😊
The best walk around tour I had here in Japan. Thanks to Cesar, the tour guide gave us very informative facts about the rich history of the places we've been. Thanks also to Hirono, our bus driver that day, who drove us safely to a wonderful places we've explored. I highly recommend this day tour for people who wants to explore extravagant history Japan has to offer.
Wonderful day trip experience with Cesar guide and driver Hirano. They made it very easy and smooth for us to visit Shiragawako and provided great information about the history and culture of both these areas, including Kanazawa.
Cesar (like the salad) was very friendly and knowledgeable on this amazing tour! I would recommend spending time with him and Hirano-san
It's a town worth visiting, and the gardens of Kanazawa are spectacular too; we were also lucky to have a great guide.
We had an excellent experience on the Shirakawa-go tour. Our tour guide, Cesar, was very knowledgeable and shared so many interesting facts and insights about the area, which made the trip even more meaningful. You can tell he really knows the history and culture well. Both Cesar and our driver were very professional and punctual—they were on time, if not early, at the meeting point, which made everything run smoothly and stress-free. I highly recommend this tour if you’re planning to visit Shirakawa-go. It was well organized, informative, and a great overall experience.
Cesar was very knowledgeable about the culture and history. It was fascinating the way he was able to conduct the tours between two languages with ease (Spanish & English. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Kanazawa
Did our tour with Cesar and he was amazing. Tour was done in English and Spanish and we went to three different locations including the world renowned Shirakawa-go. It was nice learning all about what this side of Japan has to offer and comfortable bus transportation all day from 9:30am until 6pm.
Best tour leader And this memoriable momment In kanazawa, and shirakawago, and the bus clean, the driver is good, thank you
We had a great experience on the Shirakawa-go, Kenrokuen, and Higashi-Chaya tour. The pace was a bit rushed, but it was exactly what we needed to see all the highlights in just one day. We also appreciated that the tour started and ended exactly on time. Huge thanks to our guide Cesar for a very thorough tour, clear instructions, and helpful sightseeing tips. He did a great job keeping everyone on schedule. Shout-out as well to Ikeda-san, our bus driver, for driving safely despite the heavy snow and for kindly lending us his umbrella. The price felt fair for what was included, and the tour group was not too crowded, which made the experience more enjoyable. The tour operator was also very responsive to our questions on WhatsApp, which made everything smoother. Overall, a well-organized tour and a great option if you want to cover a lot in one day, especially for those who have a limited time in Kanazawa.
Everything went perfect in this trip, also our guide, George is very accomodating and informative, he share all about the places, the culture, and also ask if se have any questions.
Amazing tour... Jorge is an excellent guide, he speaks four languages and even when we were the only ones in our group whose natal language is not english, he took the time two speak and answers questions in ours... Big knowledge in Japanese culture, charismatic and patient... Also, shout-out to the bus drivers.
This is a awesome experience to visit Shirikawago, a very beautiful place. George, our tour leader is a very nice man with warm personality, provided us with many useful information. His knowledge of history was deep and he made it fun and relatable.
Book this half a day tour to Shirakawago and it’s nice to have a funny guide to bring us around, introducing all the good food.
The tour to Shirakawago with George was an absolutely wonderful experience, especially as we joined the tour with our friends. From the very beginning, George was friendly, approachable, and highly professional. His explanations were not only informative but also filled with interesting stories that made the journey engaging and enjoyable. Throughout the trip, George shared many valuable insights into the history, local culture, and unique details of Shirakawago—things we wouldn’t have discovered on our own. He was also very attentive to the group, making sure everyone was comfortable and never rushed. Traveling together with friends made the experience even more memorable, and George’s guidance truly added value to the entire journey. The tour was well-organized, relaxed, and meaningful. Highly recommended for anyone who wants more than just sightseeing and truly wants to understand Shirakawago. Thank you, George, for such a great tour! 🙌✨
Learnt so much on this tour and the tour guide was so friendly and knowledgeable! Amazing sights and views, would recommend.
George was our guide. Personable and informative. Fluent English delivery. Clear instructions to everyone. Would recommend him readily.
The tour was on time and amazing, especially the tour guide, George, providing and explaining not only the Shirakawago history, but also the Japanese culture. He is helpful and great! Five star!
George did a great job as a tour leader and made the tour enjoyable with his engaging and entertaining style.
George was an excellent host. Great day trip out and a fantastic place. Being English speakers it made it very easy for us given his grasp of English and other languages.
This was the perfect kind of tour for me. The tour guide did most of the talking while we were enroute, and when we reached the destination she texted and emailed us points of interest for us to explore on our own. I really liked that. The bus was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The driver was professional and courteous too. All in all 100% 💯
