Aiko took us on a very informative and interesting tour! This was a perfect activity to start the day off, and it was wonderful to learn about the history of the samurai from her while walking through this charming, beautiful neighborhood! The visit to the museum was also very interesting and beautiful. Touring the castle grounds, we learned so many interesting facts about the clever and wise Maeda family, and ending in the gorgeous gardens was perfect; Aiko pointed out hidden designs and meanings, and then we were free to spend as much time as we wanted to explore and enjoy the beauty and peace as the tour ended in the garden! Aiko clearly has a passion for the history of Kanazawa and is especially kind and thoughtful in the way she considers all her guests and brings them together. Thank you Aiko!

Itinerary
On the Nomura Samurai House tour, we briefly introduce the history of the Nomura family, high-ranking samurai who served the Maeda clan. Inside the house, we explain how samurai lived and the values they respected, such as discipline and responsibility. We also explore the beautiful garden and its unique two-level pond, showing the harmony of design and function. Finally, we connect samurai culture to modern Japan, highlighting how their spirit still influences society today.
On the Kanazawa Castle tour, we introduce the history of the Maeda clan, one of the most powerful samurai families in Japan. As we walk through the castle grounds, we explain the defensive design, large stone walls, and wooden reconstruction of the castle buildings. Visitors learn how the castle functioned not only as a military fortress, but also as a political and cultural center. Finally, we connect the legacy of the Maeda family to the development of Kanazawa’s art, craftsmanship, and refined culture that can still be seen in the city today.
On the Kenrokuen Garden tour, we introduce the history of the Maeda clan and explain why Kenrokuen is considered one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. As we walk through the garden, we highlight its six traditional qualities — spaciousness, seclusion, artifice, antiquity, water features, and panoramic views. We explore famous spots such as Kasumigaike Pond and Kotoji Lantern, while explaining how each element is carefully designed to represent harmony with nature. Finally, we help visitors understand how this garden reflects the refined aesthetic sense and cultural sophistication of Kanazawa.

Aika was an amazing guide! Right amount of history and sightseeing, group size was also great - good balance of learning and touring!
It was a very informative, historical and cultural tour. Momo was a great tour guide with a lot of knowledge about the Samurai history, and the history of Kanazawa
Aiko was an excellent guide, highlighting some of the best features of the history of Kanazawa. Would recommend this tour for anyone, does involve some modest walking over 2 hours.
Aiko was wonderful! A great way to see highlights of Kanazawa, learned a lot!!
Momo did a great job showing us highlights of the Samurai area and the castle. She was very knowledgeable and shared much historical information. She was very enthusiastic and made sure everyone enjoyed the tour. The castle was impressive and we recommend this tour.
We had the pleasure of joining a guided tour with Mio and Momo, exploring the beautiful Samurai District, Kanazawa Castle, and Kenrokuen Garden. It was truly one of the most enjoyable and memorable experiences of our trip to Japan! What made this tour particularly special was not just the beauty, history, and cultural significance of the places we visited, but the warmth, patience, and genuine hospitality of our guides. A special appreciation goes to Mio, who genuinely exceeded all our expectations! We were honestly surprised to learn that this was her very first time conducting a tour. Despite being a first-timer, she was remarkably fluent, friendly, composed, and approachable. She carried herself with such friendliness and sincerity that we would never have guessed she was new to guiding. What impressed us most was her patience and attentiveness, especially towards my young nephew, who was naturally curious and asked countless questions throughout the tour. Rather than rushing through the explanations or brushing aside his questions, Mio listened carefully, acknowledged his curiosity, and made a genuine effort to answer every single question to the best of her ability. It was such a heartwarming experience to witness someone treating a child's curiosity with so much respect and kindness. These little gestures may seem insignificant, but they make an enormous difference, especially when travelling as a family. Momo also contributed to making the overall experience welcoming and enjoyable. Together, they created a comfortable and friendly atmosphere that allowed us to appreciate Kanazawa's rich history, traditional architecture, beautiful gardens, and fascinating samurai heritage at a relaxed pace. Highly recommended, especially for families with children and travellers who appreciate genuine hospitality, meaningful cultural experiences, and guides who truly care about their guests!

We booked a local walking tour of Kanazawa for our first time in the city, and it completely exceeded our expectations! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and easy to talk to. They took us through the historic Samurai district and explained the local craft traditions in a way that really brought the city to life. It made navigating a new place completely stress-free and was the absolute highlight of our trip. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Kanazawa!
The trip was very interesting, I learned a lot of things and saw places I didn"t know about before coming to Kazanawa. Mio was a great tour guide with a huge knowledge, she could answer all our questions and was very friendly.

SIX stars! My wife and I had a fantastic private tour in Kanazawa and we became instantly at ease with our guide Aiko. This tour started with the Nagamachi Samurai district, then went to Kanazawa Castle, followed by Kenrokuen Garden. Aiko was a WONDERFUL guide who is knowledgeable, energetic, patient, entertaining, extremely helpful and open to questions, and just a pleasure to be around. If you can directly book her, DO IT! You absolutely will not regret it!
Momo learned us a lot about Samoerai history, the castle and Japanese culture. She is friendly, enthusiastic and open to improve here tour guide skills everyday to be your best tour guide and she does! Sometimes her English accent is difficult to understand but doesn't bother. She even took pictures for us as a memory. Highly recommend
Momo provided an outstanding tour experience. She shared much of the history and context we were hoping to get during the walk. It made our visit to the Samari area and castle much more meaningful than it would have been on our own. Highly recommended!

I had a wonderful experience exploring Kanazawa with Daniel as our guide. The tour covered the Nagamachi Samurai District, Kanazawa Castle, and Kenrokuen Garden, offering a great insight into the city’s rich history, samurai heritage, and traditional Japanese culture. Daniel was knowledgeable, friendly, and explained everything in an engaging and easy-to-understand way. The tour was well organized and made visiting these beautiful historical sites even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kanazawa. Thank you, Daniel, for a memorable experience!
Our guide Aiko was fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Lots of information, history with fun facts. Samurai district and house really interesting, castle and gardens beautiful. Would 100% recommend that you do this, at the beginning of your visit you can then revisit so much more to see in the gardens.
We had Aiko as a tour guide and her presentation skills and familiarity made the entire experience very enjoyable. As we would walk between sites she would point out small details that may ordinarily have been excluded from a tour but helped make the experience more insightful and enjoyable. Considering we got tickets for the samurai house and the gardens, the ticket was extremely good value and the length of the tour, from 12:30 to around 15:00, was also the perfect amount of time. Aiko was funny and friendly, asking us about our travels as we walked, giving recommendations and the mood of the tour was light and fun, especially as it was a relatively small group: 10 people in total.
Aiko was a great tour, we found it very interesting and engaging. We had an amazing time, and she even took some great photos for us.
