We had an amazing experience with Bujuku Eco Tours during our trip to Uganda. They helped us plan the entire itinerary so that everything made sense and worked smoothly. We started with chimpanzee tracking in Kibale, followed by the Rwenzori trek and the climb of Margherita Peak, then Queen Elizabeth National Park, gorilla trekking in Bwindi and finally Lake Bunyonyi. A special thank you to our driver/guide, Johnson, who went far beyond what we expected. He was always helpful, flexible and genuinely caring throughout the whole journey. Our Rwenzori guides, Harrison and Jethro, were excellent. Together with our chef and the porters, they made a challenging trek and climb to Margherita Peak a safe, enjoyable and truly memorable experience. The whole team consistently went above and beyond what we expected. We are very grateful to the entire Bujuku Eco Tours team for an unforgettable trip. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone planning a trip to Uganda!

Itinerary
Day 1
1
Your driver guide will drive you to Nyakalengijja for the trip briefing and organising your equipment. The trail begins by passing through farmland to the park boundary beyond which it follows a thick forest along the Mubuku River, crossing its Mahoma River tributary before starting a long, steep climb up onto a massive ridge to reach Nyabitaba hut. During this part of the trip you may hear chimpanzee and see black and white colobus, blue monkey and the brilliantly coloured Rwenzori turraco. Hike duration: 6 -7 hours. Elevation height: 1,036m
Day 2
2
From Nyabitaba follow the trail that drops down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Passing through the bamboo forest, traverse through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. From the Nyamuleju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. Finally reach John Matte Hut after passing through the tiring bog, for dinner and overnight at the hut. Hike duration: 7 – 8 hours. Elevation height: 854m
Day 3
3
From John Matte Hut the trail drops down to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, the home of giant lobelias. Jumping from tussock to tussock, the bog is finally crossed but rarely without the feet sampling some of the freezing ooze below. The upper Bigo bog gives way to Bujuku Lake, with views of Mt Baker to the South and Mt Stanley to the West. Bujuku Hut, well located in the shadow of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, is set in a narrow valley below Stuhlmann Pass. This camp is good for acclimatization for clients attempting the summits of peaks Mount Stanley and Mount Speke. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku hut. Hike duration: 4 – 5 hours. Elevation height: 457m
Day 4
4
Leaving Bujuku, the trail takes you through more bog, while climbing the steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical and forest of Groundsel Gully. Turn to your right up to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders, while the trail on your left leads to Scott-Elliot Pass and down to Kitandara Lakes the trail on he left leads those who are not climbing Margherita Peak to Kitandara Hut. Those climbing the peak will have their Dinner and overnight at the coolly and Icy Elena Hut. Hike duration: 5 – 6 hours. Elevation height: 579m
Day 5
5
Early in the morning, you attempt climbing the highest peak, Margherita of Mount Stanley. To reach the summit of Margherita, the climb takes about 4 -5 hours depending on the weather conditions and the pace of climbing this mountain. This tough walk takes you over three glaciers, slippery rock, ice and very exposed areas which are open on many sides. Climbing on to the glaciers, cross the Stanley Plateau and proceed with the ascent. Acclimatized to fog, altitude sickness and coolly weather, scramble up to the summit of Margherita the highest peak of the Rwenzori mountains. The Descend from Margherita peak back to Elena Hut will take you about 2 – 3hours. After your lunch at Elena hut, descend to the Scott-Elliot pass (4372m asl.), where there are spectacular views of Bujuku Lake and Mount Speke. After, the trail passes you through an alpine zone of sparse vegetation and rough boulders, descend past the Kitandara Lakes for overnight at the Kitandara camp. Descend duration: 3 – 4 hours.
Day 6
6
From Kitandara, take on the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the mountain to Fresh field Pass 4282m asl. At this point you can view into the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. From the pass, take on the long high alpine mossy. Thereafter start the descend through steep rocky trails and the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906 and then an overnight at Guy yeoman camp. Hike duration: 6 – 7 hours.
Day 7
7
Below Guy Yeoman, the route descends the cliffs of Kichuchu. Beyond Kichuchu the muddy path crosses the Mubuku River twice through a bamboo forest before climbing downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit. Continue descending Nyabitaba Camp and complete your trek by the evening to Mihunga gate. Descent duration: 7 – 8 hours

Visiting the Rwenzori Mountains was an unforgettable experience. The scenery is incredibly beautiful, with lush forests, unique vegetation, and breathtaking views at every turn. The hike was challenging but rewarding, and the guides were very knowledgeable and supportive throughout the journey. I highly recommend this adventure to anyone who loves nature, mountains, and a true wilderness experience. A trip I will always remember!
Experience of the actual trekking was excellent with good guides, chef, protection and incredibly diverse landscape. Walking was not overly strenuous not covering more than 8k a day with some steep elevation. We tried to message the organisers to arrange a more customised experience and would also have been happy to carry our own equipment to save porters but there was not much adjustment on this. They were also very difficult with taking the dollars cash we paid them in due to any minor markings on damage to the dollars.
We used Bujuku Eco Tours for a multifaceted Uganda adventure of 17 days. Each event and activity exceeded expectations! Their lodging choices were excellent, and their guides were exceptional. They are also socially conscious and paid fair wages through local mountain community organizations for local cooks and porters, and ensure that regulatory standards of maximum carrying weights were not exceeded. Additionally, they provided cultural and humanitarian components into the program that greatly expanded our experience. We combined 10-day Rwenzori Mtn trekking itinerary with a volcano climb, gorilla tracking, golden monkey tracking, chimpanzee tracking, Batwa (Pygmy) cultural encounter, Queen Elizabeth National Park game drives and boat safari. Truly a magical experience, and every single component of the trip was top-notch. Highest possible recommendation for Bujuku Eco Tours
Bujuku Eco Tours & Travel was a great choice. I spent 15 days with Bujuku Eco Tours & Travel. All in all more than satisfied. Reliable and fast communication in advance. Flexibility in the tour organisation, due to health reasons. Spent the first six days in Queen Elisabeth NP and Bwindi NP with Exavier. Great choice of accommodation in the mid-range area. Very entertaining drives, lots of information about Uganda, culture and traditions. Thank you Exavier. I enjoyed my time with you! The subsequent 8-day trekking tour in the Rmenzori Mountains with Alfred & Harrisson as guides was the absolute highlight for me. I’ve been together with an american Woman. Top organisation, reliable leadership with ascent of the Cheptegei. What a magnificent landscape. I always felt safe in the company of the two of them in the sometimes very demanding terrain. Top catering on the way, amazing what Cedrak kept conjuring up for us. Thanks to the porters, who were always in a good mood and did an outstanding job. I can only warmly recommend this trekking tour to anyone who wants to experience something extraordinary in terms of scenery. It is a worthwhile alternative to the overcrowded Kilimanjaro trek. There is no comparison in terms of vegetation and mountain scenery. You can get very nice impressions at mondberge.de, among others. Bujuku Eco Tours & Travel was a great choice. Thank you for the unforgettable and impressive days with you in Uganda. I wish you all the best for the future! Thank you Geoffrey, Exavier, Harrisson and Alfred!
The trail has been open for exclusively wilderness camping. The hiking goes through the mountain forest, giving you the opportunity to see wildlife like the black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, chameleon, and the Rwenzori Turaco.
Good quality of the service for reasonable price including security. Excelent team and professional guides. Friendly and willing people. Well managed. Clear communication and correct deal. Fast, faultless and flexible organisation and arrangement. Me and my friend, we did a trek in January 2024 in Rwenzori mountains, started from Kasanzi region through camps of Kasanzi, Bekambo, Lami, John Maata hut, Elena hut to Margherita peak, then back to John Maata hut through Irene lake hut and out of the park along the Central cirquit, Bujuku and Mubuku river with lunch in Nyabitaba hut. 7 days, 6 nights in the mountains. We had 2 guides, cooks, porters and 2 rangers. Vladi, Czechia
Amazing experience, highly recommended. Bujuku Ecotours was a great choice, excellent service from the first contact. We hiked Ruwenzori mountains for 7 days, without the peak. The landscapes were really wild and unique, and we saw different types of monkeys, chameleons, deer, birds and lots of beautiful butterflies. Each day was different, and we would have liked to stay even longer. Alfred and Harrison, our tour guides, were excellent, super nice and professional, adjusting to our pace and knowing when to help at more technical spots of the hike. The only challenge for us was the altitude, but even that was fine, though next time we would spend a few days in Uganda to acclimatise rather than going straight from the plane to the mountains. We also got pampered by the team, first and foremost our excellent cook Sedrack who prepared big and tasty meals. We even got fresh fruit at above 3000 m altitude, plus hot water to “shower” every day. We were not used to such luxury during a hike and were very surprised when we were told the two of us would have a dozen porters. But it seems to be the norm, also creating badly needed jobs.
My friend and I just finished an 8-day trek in the Rwenzori mountains with Bujuku Eco Tours and had an amazing time. From the beginning, they were well organized and flexible to tailor personalized trip. The driver Johnson was very kind and expounded on Uganda's history and nature. The company supplied us with high-quality climbing and camping gear that we were unable to bring but was essential for a safe journey. We camped in tents along the Bukurungu trail as we enjoyed the solitude of mystical mountain valleys away from the groups on the central circuit. The hikes were challenging but the team chef supplied us with warm drinks and filling meals to keep us going. Summiting Mt. Speke and Mt. Stanley, we learned new mountaineering techniques while taking in the breathtaking mountain landscapes. I highly recommend Bujuku Eco Tours for any trek in the Rwenzori Mountains to ensure a safe, comfortable, and exciting trek.
What an experience in the Rwenzori Mountains. Can never forget. Thanks to Joeffery and Johnson's great services that we managed to do it with ease. We summited the Mt Stanley - Margarita Peak and came back safely. 10/10 for Bujuku
We had a great experience in Uganda with Johnson and Geofrey from Bujuku Eco Tours. We did a 4 day Rwenzori trek and Chimpanzee trekking at an affordable rate. Everything was perfectly organized and the accommodations were very nice. Trekking gear for the Rwenzori mountains was arranged by the organization and of good quality. Transport from and to Kigali was very comfortable and there were possibilities to see a lot on the way. I would 100% recommend Bujuku Eco Tours for people wanting to visit Uganda.
Was really a challenging expedition. The hardest actually for me to date. Bujuku offered Excellent service and assistance during my expedition. Really felt at home away from home 😊
the trip was perfectly organized. the communication with geoffrey via email was easy, quick and i got all the information i needed. on the spot the guys went every extramile to fulfill my wishes. i felt like a princess. they are very professional, reliable, on time, polite and kind. the equipment i borrowed was very good quality (sleeping bag, rubber boots, crampons, harness, etc). they offer great value for a good price. definetly recommended!
I did a hike with them, Margherita peak. they were very professional and very efficient. the guides were great and the whole experience was very comfortable and easy. they helped with everything and had information about everything. I would recommend this company to everyone. If you have any questions about the owner or guides, just message me.
I came across Bujuku Eco Tours while searching about the Rwenzori mountains of the moon after reading mixed reviews and i needed more information. The team was very responsive and got me hooked with a lot of helpful information and photos until i decided to book with them. They planned and organised everything from accommodation in Entebbe, transfer to and from Kasese, the PCR test after the trek and guides, porters, climbing gear and the tasty warm meals throughout the trip. Kasese is hot and humid town so they booked for me an air conditioned hotel room which was very comfortable for my two nights in Kasese. They booked and cleared for me everything and the trip was very smooth. We hiked through the central circuit which i had been told was the oldest trail but probably the most amazing from my experience. The trek exceeded my expectations, the beautiful views up, the nature, the red duiker (locally called a mountain goat), the hanging rocks, beautiful lakes and the stanley plateau glacier left me in awe. The guides were very helpful and professional and we felt safe in their hands The feeling was exceptional as i felt i needed more time to enjoy the trail. If you need advise/information or need to book for Rwenzori mountains trekking, i recommend Bujuku Eco Tours.
Wow! What a fantastic experience we had. We have chosen 1 day. Super cool experience to a beautiful place! It was a tough walk. Advice is to really leave as early as possible, so you can do it at your leisure. Eventually we arrived back at our car with some lights in the dark.
