If you start from Entebbe or Kampala in Uganda, the journey would take 8 to 9 hours depending on the sector you would be doing the tracking. The driver will ensure that you stop at the equator crossing and the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara Once you get to Bwindi, refresh, shower and enjoy the evening with friends around the hotel. Day 2
2
3 Days Gorilla Trekking BwindiBriefing for gorilla trekking takes place at 7:30am and is conducted by the Warden and his team of Rangers at the park offices. All gorilla trackers must be at the park by this time and attend the briefing which is an overview of what to expect during the gorilla trekking. A gorilla safari in Bwindi forest offers you several gorilla groups to choose from. The Rangers will take into consideration your overall fitness. Gorilla tracking is challenging but you will find the experience awesome once you see the primates. It is always amazing to watch a family of mountain gorillas. You could spend hours just watching the little ones roll around and play. Mountain Gorillas are very playful and curious – don’t be surprised if they come too close to you. While with the gorillas, its important to listen to instructions from your guide. Never make sudden movements while with mountain gorillas.
Batwa Cultural Experience After spending one hour with the gorilla family, you will be led back to the starting point where our Guide/Driver will be waiting to take you back for lunch at your hotel. You will head out to visit the Batwa Pygmy cultural community in the afternoon. As noted earlier, the Batwa originally lived in the forest but often had conflicts with the gorillas. The government decided to relocate them elsewhere to allow for smoother gorilla conservation activities. Dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs, Four Gorillas Lodge or Gorilla Leisure Lodge for Luxury accommodation. The mid-range Lodge is Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge while Bakiga Lodge is Budget.

I just got back from gorilla trekking with Sankofa Afrika and I’m still buzzing. From the briefing to the last step back at base, everything was seamless. Our guide William was patient, knowledgeable, and made sure we got the best views while respecting the gorillas’ space. Seeing a family in the wild was unreal — 1 hour of hiking for 1 hour with them, and every minute was worth it. I saw silverback 🤩🤣🤩🤩🤩 so huge and big I could hear the beat of it's heart Highly recommend if you want it done right, safe, and responsibly.
We had a great time on our private Gorilla trekking tour. The guide put us on a gorilla family that had lots of babies and a very chilled silverback. The trekking wasn’t too strenuous and it was a surreal experience. The tour did not go as planned but the guide ensured we were well looked after and taken to the airport on time. Definitely recommend if spending an hour with the mountain gorillas is on your bucket list.

Sankofa Afrika Tours and Travel exceeded my expectations as a home tourist exploring the Pearl of Africa. I was amazed by how thoughtfully the team crafted an itinerary that showcased Uganda’s breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The safari to Murchison Falls National Park was unforgettable. Seeing elephants, giraffes, and lions in the wild was thrilling, and the boat cruise along the Nile offered an up-close view of hippos and crocodiles. What stood out the most was the cultural visit to the Acholi community. Sankofa arranged an interactive experience where I learned traditional dances, tasted local delicacies, and listened to fascinating folklore. The professionalism and friendliness of the team made me feel comfortable and well cared for throughout the journey. Lake Bunyonyi was the perfect retreat after a busy safari itinerary. Sankofa Afrika Tours arranged a relaxing stay by the lake, surrounded by stunning scenery and peaceful waters. We went canoeing, swam in the lake, and enjoyed the spectacular sunrise views from our cottage. Sankofa’s attention to detail made this peaceful retreat even more special. If you’re looking for a relaxing escape with great hospitality, Lake Bunyonyi with Sankofa is it.
Uganda’s natural beauty is truly unparalleled, and my first adventure with Sankofa Afrika Tours and Travel in 2023 gave me the opportunity to explore some of the country’s most stunning waterfalls and wildlife. From the thundering Murchison Falls to the tranquil Sipi Falls, every moment of the trip was filled with awe-inspiring scenery and unforgettable experiences. The journey began with a visit to Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile River makes its dramatic plunge over a 43-meter drop. Sankofa Afrika Tours and Travel organized a boat cruise that took us right to the base of the falls, allowing us to witness the sheer power of the water as it roared through the narrow gorge. The spray from the falls created rainbows in the sunlight, adding to the magical atmosphere. The cruise also offered incredible wildlife sightings, including hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Sankofa’s guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, providing insights into the geology of the falls and the surrounding ecosystem. After exploring Murchison Falls, we continued our journey to the eastern part of Uganda to visit Sipi Falls, a series of three waterfalls located on the slopes of Mount Elgon. The landscape here was completely different from Murchison, with lush green hills, coffee plantations, and cool mountain air. Sankofa arranged for us to hike to all three falls, each offering a unique perspective and breathtaking views. The trek was challenging but rewarding, and the sense of tranquility at Sipi Falls was the perfect contrast to the raw power of Murchison Falls. The adventure didn’t end there. Sankofa Afrika Tours and Travel also arranged for us to explore Kidepo Valley National Park, one of Uganda’s most remote and untouched wilderness areas. The park’s rugged landscapes, with its rolling savannas and distant mountain ranges, provided a dramatic backdrop for our safari. We were fortunate to see a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and the rare cheetah. The isolation of Kidepo Valley made it feel like we were in a world of our own, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Sankofa’s guide was exceptional, sharing his extensive knowledge of the park’s history, wildlife, and conservation efforts. Sankofa also ensured that our accommodations throughout the trip were comfortable and well-situated, with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. Whether it was a lodge overlooking the Nile or a cozy guesthouse near Sipi Falls, each place offered a unique experience that enhanced our connection to the natural beauty of Uganda. In addition to the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife, Sankofa Afrika Tours and Travel provided opportunities to immerse ourselves in Uganda’s rich culture. We visited local villages, where we were warmly welcomed by the communities. We learned about traditional crafts, participated in dance performances, and enjoyed delicious local cuisine. These cultural experiences added depth to our trip and allowed us to appreciate the diversity and hospitality of the Ugandan people. In conclusion, Uganda’s waterfalls and wildlife are truly some of the most spectacular in the world, and Sankofa Afrika Tours and Travel made sure that our journey to explore them was unforgettable. From the thundering Murchison Falls to the serene Sipi Falls and the wild beauty of Kidepo Valley, every moment of the trip was perfectly planned and executed. If you’re looking to discover the natural wonders of Uganda, I highly recommend Sankofa Afrika Tours and Travel. Their expertise, passion, and commitment to creating exceptional travel experiences make them the ideal partner for your Ugandan adventure.
