Sheraton Kampala Hotel

I spent one night at the Sheraton Kampala and it was a pleasant stay. The hotel is in a great central location with Uber or a boda boda you can easily reach Kampala’s main sights. Check-in was smooth and I was able to get into my 8th floor room quite early, which was a nice bonus after a long journey. The room was a good size, clean and the bed was very comfortable. I particularly liked the small French balcony, it added a nice touch and a bit of fresh air to the room. The bathroom was well stocked with plenty of toiletries, which was a thoughtful touch. The outdoor pool looked inviting, though I didn’t get a chance to try it this time. The green garden surroundings, which give the hotel a calm, resort-like feel despite being in the city center. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. For a one night stopover in Kampala, the Sheraton delivered everything I needed, a good location, comfortable room and pleasant service. That said, I wouldn’t recommend Kampala itself as a destination, there isn’t much to see and parts of the city felt a bit dirty.

It had been long since I was at the Sheraton Hotel, Ternan Ave., and when I did go there on the afternoon of 24th May, 2026 was greatly surprised. I had gone to pick a birthday cake and while the attentive staff prepared it, I headed to the front desk to make a few inquiries. The receptionist, a young man, merely lifted his head and stared at me in silence till I volunteered a greeting. His response was perfunctory, after which he bent his head to concentrate on whatever was in his hands. I addressed the first of my inquiries to the top of his head, received a monosyllabic answer until, struck by the absurdity of the situation, stopped and went back to Temptations. There, at least, the service was satisfactory. Indeed my surprise was great at the steep decline in professionalism in the 5 odd years I had not visited the Sheraton. I am a little sad too.

I had an amazing stay at this hotel. The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and well organized. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. The food was delicious, and the environment was peaceful and secure. The customer service was excellent from check-in to check-out. I’m giving this hotel 5 stars because of the professionalism, cleanliness, comfort, and great hospitality. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Definitely worth visiting again!

Well below Sheraton usual standards. Compared to local hotels it's "very nice" but compared to other Sheraton hotels, including 4 points that I visited too, it's very low standards. Staff are not trained accordingly and show very little enthusiasm, are either "not helpful at all" or "on your case for a tip". Getting some change (converting a local big of 50.000 Shillings which is very common in Uganda not into smaller notes) was simply impossible and none of the many shops in the hotel accepted to accomodate. I had to walk outside do it in a local shop where I felt much more welcome than anywhere in the hotel. Equipments and cleanliness are also below average for the brand. I sat at a table inside that had clearly not been wiped for a while. Rooms are just ok, not well sound insulated so best to get to the higher floors (I say that for those who still want to try their luck there). Staff at the buffet do their best, but fresh food (fresh cut vegetables, bread, cakes) stays exposed to flies without any protection. This shows a lack of training for the staff and clearly no concern from management. Make sure you have a strong stomach and a good lawyer, some day I wouldn't be surprised if a major lawsuit were to fall onto them. Money for value has turned to money for deceit. I do not recommend this place at all if you are used to Sheraton "real" standards. Overall, very disappointed.
