Started out poorly when I was required to wait for the driver in my Hotel carpark (solo traveller) and no one turned up. I eventually contacted them and there apparently had been traffic/accident delays.... (communication from THEM would have been appreciated!!!!) They had another driver collect me from the lobby 3 hours later who was fantastic (thank you Gillroy!!!) so I put that bad start behind me had a fabulous tour! ***Please improve your communication with Customers if there are issues!***

Apartheid museum was very interesting and informative! We really enjoyed the tour - Johannesburg City tour, Soweto tour, Mandela house and the African cuisine lunch. Our tour guide - Gilroy was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was enthusiastic in sharing his time, insights and experiences. Thank you!
It was the best way to see Johannesburg. Joseph, the driver/guide picked me up and we drove all over the city while he explained everything. He was a wealth of knowledge and a great driver and I felt safe.
The tour guide was very soft spoken and we could not hear or when we could hear we couldn’t understand what he was saying. His English was poor and we felt like he really didn’t want to be a tour guide. I had booked this trip for 6 of us and was embarrassed by the poor quality of the tour and the fact that friends had to pay for the tour. I have always had a great experience with Viator until this time.
The tour was average but not what we anticipated as the apartheid museum was closed due to holidays. We were not informed and price was not adjusted. Our driver was kind but little dialogue occurred. We enjoyed Mandela House and prison but those were guided tours by someone else at those sites.
Gabriel our guide was extremely informative and helpful. He provided a really good insight to Johannesburg area, in particular the different areas within Soweto. The Apartheid Museum and Nelson Mandelas house provide really good information on the history of Apartheid
Great tour of parts of Johannesburg and Soweto I could never have found on my own. Joseph from Jeff tours was very knowledgeable and informative and knew all the short cuts when we clashed with the G20 preparations. The Apartheid museum is very good and you could probably spend all day there but 2 hours was enough to get some great knowledge of what went on under apartheid.
Joseph was excellent with a broad knowledge of Johannesburg. He provided insight and history of the city and surroundings. Felt very comfortable throughout the trip.
Jeff was great. Knowledgeable, flexible, tailored the excursion to my preferences. Highly recommend!
The tour was awesome. It took us into parts I wouldn’t have through to go as well as areas I never would have ventured on my own. Joseph was an amazing tour guide and took care of us the entire way. Highly recommended
Had a great tour with Joseph who gave us a good overview of the city and took us to the must see places. Highly recommended
It was really a very interesting tour with lots of information about the city and in a great car. I can recommend it!
What a wonderful day out with Joseph! He was the perfect guide - friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about Johannesburg and its history. Really pleased I booked this tour, and I would happily recommend to others.
My guide Simba was a kind, native local citizen. His knowledge of Johannesburg history and of the city today is breathtaking. He should be lecturing at the university. There can’t be a better guide for a day tour for the curious or scholarly.
Joseph was phenomenal- very informative and attentive. Really appreciated having him as our groups tour guide and highly recommend!
The best experience, Jiseph made this tour a wonderful experience, he has a lot of knowledge, patience and care. We recommend this tou, the best.
We went for an 8 hours tour with Jeff and were very happy of it! Jeff is a very passionate and knowledgeable guide and will explain every social cultural aspect of his city. Plus he speaks a very good English, he’s a good driver and above all a very nice person! Choose Jeff Tours and you will be very happy as well ;)
Joseph was amazing! He was very thorough and allowed me to see Johannesburg from a different perspective and lens! Book this tour, and I hope you’re lucky enough to get Joesph!
Joseph led us on an exceptional tour of Johannesburg, showcasing his extensive knowledge of the city and creating a safe, comfortable environment for us to explore. His driving abilities were remarkable, and we never felt hurried as we visited the city's highlights. Our gratitude to Joseph for delivering a truly unforgettable experience during our time in Johannesburg. Plus we loved the in-depth experience on Soweto a met a culture of pure hospitality!
Soweto and Johannesburg. Simply excellent, due to guide Joseph. He went beyond the standard tour to give a memorable day. I ended up being the only one on the tour so had a personal journey through Johannesburg and Soweto. The crucial element in any tour is the guide and here Joseph excelled. Engaging, full of knowledge and with personal experiences of apartheid, he gave the tour an immediacy others couldn't. We did the Johannesburg as a drive through and then moved to Soweto. Note that an option was given to go with a local through one of the poor areas (they will only let one of their own do this). Not knowing this, for security reasons I took no cash, which they hope for payment. So you may want to take some. A prearranged amount would help both parties. We went to sites beyond the tour and Joseph even took me to the Park Bus terminal so I knew where to get a bus to Lesotho (this included paying for parking). The bus departure had moved to another site and he took me there and confirmed with the local drivers exactly where it was. Over and above the call of duty, that was appreciated. They will pick you up and drop you back at your hotel which is a huge advantage.
The tour was great to see the changes in South Africa up close and personal. Integrating with the locals provided a special touch also. The news does not give the details like the tour guide. This was truly a history lesson.
I only had a limited time before flying out. This was a great tour that allowed me to see the Apartheid Museum and the Mandela house in Soweto. I am glad to have done it instead of sitting in the hotel. Joseph was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable and insightful of the history of South Africa and Soweto area. I recommend this tour!
Truly authentic experience. Appreciated The personal and historical perspective. Timely and comfortable drive.
I learned so much during this excursion due to our amazing guide and chauffeur, Joseph Kazadi! The apartheid museum was closed, so we went to the constitution hill instead, which was just as interesting. This excursion alone was worth the whole trip to Johannesburg itself!
Joseph was amazing and great host. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Seeing Soweto with him is the only way to do it.
Great experience driven around by Joseph, seeing some of Johannesburg, Soweto and the Apartheid Museum. Joseph openly shared his knowledge and experience, took in my questions, and listened to me compare these experiences with my own understanding from living in a couple of different countries. The visit to Soweto was particularly eye-opening, including being shown around by one of the locals in the poorest of the areas, and broke some of the stereotypes I had come with. I'm happy to recommend both Joseph and the tour to others.
It was my first trip to Johannesburg, so I was looking forward to seeing the city and learning about the culture. We actually had a very long layover at the airport and chose to use the time taking a tour. We were picked up at the airport and returned again. Joseph was our guide. He was very professional and informative. We were given options to walk through a poor neighborhood, shop, and take our time through the museum. Enjoyed learning more about Mandela, seeing his home and the areas we had seen in news reels.
Learning so much about apartheid, and visiting areas of Johannesburg we would not have gone to, Joseph our guide was very knowledgeable, he organised a visit to Constitutional Hill to replace the closed museum, an amazing day!
Wonderful way to spend a day in Johannesburg. My guide Joseph was well informed, kind, and attentive. The trip was flexible and I felt I had could take my time at each stop for pictures and to fully read about the history of the location. Highly recommend this great tour and wonderful guide.
Can 100% recommend this tour when visiting Johannesburg. Knowledgeable and very friendly guide! Booked the trip the day before late in the evening, this was no problem at all. Was picked up at the B&B on time and dropped off again at the end of the tour. The tour is nice and takes into account the time you will need to properly visit the apartheid museum and all the other stops we made along the way. The guide obviously new what he was talking about and taught me a lot about Jo'burg, Soweto and life in South Africa. Thank you very much for the experience!
I did two tours with Jeff, first the one to Soweto, the Apartheid museum and around Johannesburg as well as a tour to the Voortrekker memorial and Pretoria. I enjoyed both tours a lot. Jeff is a very reliable, friendly and savvy tour guide who knows a lot about South African history and the places we visited as well as the people. I felt always very safe and well informed. It was great talking with Jeff and I gained more awareness of South African history and culture. I can only strongly recommend doing a tour with him. It is great way to get to know South Africa. Many thanks, Jeff!
My friend and I were in Johannesburg for the weekend and wanted to see as much as possible. Joseph, our guide, made our excursion really special for us. He is very knowledgeable, extremely polite and professional and his pleasant personality just added to the experience.
Joseph, our guide was excellent. He was informative about the history of apartheid and the struggles to get it abolished. He gave us a wonderful tour of the neighborhoods of Soweto. He explained the effects of tribal affiliation on South African citizens and their lives. He is fluent English of course but in French as well. We highly recommend him from Jeff Tours.
Great experience with Jeff. Took me around Johannesburg, Soweto, Mandela’s house and Constitution Hill. Thank you Jeff
We booked the tour last minute, and we could not have made a better decision. My husband and I had a wonderful tour with Gilroi. Excellent communication prior to the on time pick up from our hotel. He was very knowledgeable and super courteous. An unforgettable experience. Gilroi was patient and provided enough time to view the sights and for a tasty lunch at a local restaurant. The tour definitely exceeded our expectations. The pace is appropriate for for novices, seasoned travelers, and various levels of mobility. We travel extensively and this is one of the best tours we've ever experienced. Highly recommended for a must-do/see activity in Joburg.
This tour was awesome! It was comprehensive and education. The food in Soweto was great. We were picked up and dropped off to our hotel which was very convenient. We highly recommend.
Great day and informative tour. Went to all the must see places and had the best tour guide-Joseph. Thank you!
Wonderful day with Joseph. He is so knowledgable and kind. Highly recommend! Joseph knows so much about history as well as current affairs.
Joseph's tour was so thoughtful and insightful! Well worth it! He will make sure you get the historical download of the rich history of Johannesburg and the movements that continue to shape it.
Joseph was very knowledgeable and served as an excellent tour guide. He provided alternative options because the Apartheid museum was closed. The tour was well planned and a rewarding experience. I would definitely recommend booking with him
This was an excellent experience - my guide Joseph was kind and helpful. I was travelling solo and he picked me up directly from my accomodation and provided me with a tour of Soweto, Johannesburg and the Apartheid Museum. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the city. I would certainly recommend this tour to others. Thank you!
The trip was well organised. Joseph collected me from my hotel early in the morning. We collected a few other passengers and drove around the major sights of Johannesburg. The trip was an eye opener in that we got to see the major sights, but also learned where not to travel to alone. One of the highlights of the trip was going to Soweto and seeing that township and how it has developed over the years and how some areas have remained ‘stuck’ in a cycle of poverty. The tour took us to Vilakazi Street where we saw Mandela House- going in was an extra 60Rand but was worth it. We could also see Archbishop Desmond TuTu’s house as well. Then we drove to the Hector Pieterson Museum and see where the student uprising happened in 1976. We also were able to walk through the slums of Soweto. This free tour was led by a young guy who lives there and is part of the otbnpo( only the brave non profit organisation) he made it clear that he didn’t want any money from us just wanted to highlight what life was like for the poorest of people in Soweto. The ultimate highlight of the day was spending 2 hours visiting the Apartheid Museum. I honestly could have spent much longer if I was allowed. It really gave an in-depth look at the origins of Apartheid, how it developed, how it affected people inside and outside of South Africa and how the country fought to be free of it! As mentioned my guide Joseph was super friendly, really knowledgeable, willing to answer any question asked about the places we visited or about South Africa in general, and a really nice guy! I recommend this trip to anyone who visits Johannesburg and wants a comprehensive overview of the city and its surrounding area.
Joseph took me on an exceptionally good tour! Thank you very very much, Joseph! Your knowledge of the city and the history was outstanding!
Loved this experience because our guide, Joseph, was really open with how life is living in South Africa and Johannesburg, and it was extremely eye-opening. This was a driving tour where he took us through several neighborhoods where you could see the drastic wealth-inequality which was really sad to see but necessary. It helped us understand how the impacts of the Apartheid are still very much alive today. And the Apartheid Museum in general was one of the highlights of the trip. Don't think of it as any old museum (cause to be honest museums aren't usually too appealing to me) but this was 100% worth going to Johannesburg for and I think visiting the museum is an absolute must-do if you visit South Africa to understand it's past and its people. Also they picked us up and dropped us off at the airport which was super convenient, and held all of our luggage for us in the car. It was safe with our driver because he stayed around/in the car the entire time while we got out of the car. We also got to pick what time we wanted to start and end the tour which was incredible because I was researching so many Joburg tours to see the Apartheid Museum and Soweto combined and this was the only place that i found that allowed us to arrange those details; everything else had a set time in the morning which we couldn't do since we were flying in from Cape Town that morning.
Joseph was an amazing our guide that showed us Soweto, Johannesburg, and most importantly, he brought us to the apartheid museum. Joseph was very knowledgeable and ensured that my girlfriend and I were safe and comfortable throughout the whole tour. I highly recommend this life changing tour to all!
Being in Joburg alone for a business trip, I wanted to explore the city a little over the weekend and Jeff’s Tours & Transfers was an amazing experience! My tour guide, Gilroy, was phenomenal to say the least - he was nice, funny, patient with all the questions and it was great just to talk to him about day-to-day life in South Africa and Johannesburg in addition to the history. I did the Joburg, Soweto & Apartheid tour which was great to get a good overview of the city. We went through the different neighborhoods (Sandton, Rosebank, Houghton, Hillbrow, Newton’s), did Constitutional Hill in the AM, grabbed lunch and explored Soweto (amazing!!) and then went to the Apartheid Museum (must do to truly understand the history of the Rainbow Nation). I highly recommend this and if you are fortunate enough to get Gilroy as your guide - you’re in for a fantastic day of exploration.
We had a private morning tour with Joseph of Soweto, Hector Pietersen Museum and the city. We very much appreciated Joseph’s knowledge and the insight he gave us to Johannesburg. Joseph is a wonderful gentleman and his car was very comfortable. We would definitely recommend a private or small group tour with Joseph to explore and learn about Johannesburg.
Excellent day with Joseph as French driver guide. He explained the history of his city during the trips. We highly recommend.
Encore merci. Merci au guide.
