Wow! Everything about this experience was amazing. We had never been on a balloon flight before and it was just magic. Ballooning in the Cradle of Mankind was our reason for visiting Muldersdrift as part of a birthday celebration. This was our 8th balloon ride in various spots around the world and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Air Ventures is a professional and experienced operation and the whole ballooning experience was well run and smooth. We were picked up from our accommodation at additional cost (and possibly a touch early - ended up waiting at Kloofzicht Lodge for well over an hour which seemed a bit long). The morning we flew they had two balloons going up and we were in the smaller basket for our Safari Flight which was a nice size. The balloons were 80% inflated when we arrived at the launch site and as always it was fabulous to watching the filling of the final 20% and their eventual lift off from the ground before all the passengers were helped into the basket. Safety was paramount and compared to other excellent operators (and some terrible ones) this was a 100% safe and professional set up from cold-air inflation filling and launching, through the flight itself and the landing. We have, over 7 other balloon flights, never, ever seen a balloon get parallel parked onto its trailer - absolutely amazing - kudos to Harold our excellent pilot. We would have given our eye teeth to get our hands on a cap as a souvenir - just for their great embroiderered badge/patch which would have ended up on our bags next to ballooning souvenirs from Burma, Queenstown etc. - please, guys - get some postcards and patches made up! Highly recommend, lovely flight up and through the gorge and we even saw rhinos - our first rhino viewing ever.

This was an absolutely amazing experience! Marius was an incredible host and pilot, he made the experience a whole lot more memorable. The views were incredible. I recommend 100%. It was totally worth the early and cold morning.

Well organized event, safety was number one priority, very professional staff. Saw Rhinos, Zebras, Kudos, Impala, Ostrich and wonderful scenery.

Really enjoyed the experience. Marius as a balloon pilot was very friendly and informative. He made sure we were aware of safety protocols and what we need to do to make sure we have a safe and pleasant flight. He was also very friendly and enthusiastic with pointing to us any wildlife sightings. The flight departed on time and a pleasant chat over some sparkling wine made the whole experience more than just a tour.

Just do it! It is the best thing you can do in the air. From silent smooth flying to viewing the landscapes from the air. It is so incredible to fly over the animals and trees. No fear of height is applicable here. It does not affect you at all.

I had high expectations going into this experience, but unfortunately, it turned out to be very disappointing and absolutely not worth the money. First of all, the organization around transportation was poor. We had made clear arrangements regarding taxi pickup and drop-off, yet these were not properly honored. This created unnecessary stress and confusion early in the morning, which is exactly what you don’t want before what is supposed to be a relaxing and special experience. The flight itself was underwhelming. While the idea of a hot air balloon ride sounds magical, in reality, we were only in the air for around 40 minutes. For the price being charged, this felt extremely short and did not justify the cost at all. The overall experience lacked the sense of exclusivity and quality you would expect at this price point. The included breakfast was another major letdown. It was overpriced and of very poor quality. The food was basic, uninspired, and certainly not reflective of a premium experience. It felt more like an afterthought than a meaningful part of the package. What makes this particularly frustrating is the overall value proposition. When you pay a significant amount for an experience like this, you expect attention to detail, smooth organization, and a memorable, high-quality outing. Instead, it felt rushed, poorly coordinated, and underdelivered in multiple aspects. In summary, this experience did not live up to expectations in any meaningful way. Between the transportation issues, the short flight time, and the disappointing breakfast, it simply does not justify the price. I would not recommend AirVentures Hot Air Ballooning to others.

What a surreal and peaceful journey! Seeing the landscape unfold from below as the sky turned golden was a spectacle I’ll never forget. A huge thank you to our skilled pilot, whose quiet confidence made the entire flight feel smooth and effortless. It was so enchanting that the time just flew by; I would have gladly spent all day up there. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to see the world from a new perspective!

I could this over and over and over again. Cool and relaxing experience. The hotel where breakfast was hosted was equally breathtaking and relaxing. I most certainly will do this again except meeting the 3.30am pick up time was meh.

An amazing experience and extremely safe. The crew and Captain are very patient and provide a lot of information. The sunrise is breathtaking and the Captain plans it just right as we rise above the hills to capture it. Highly recommended

Our hot air balloon pilot, Ianthé Honiball, a young South African, was waiting for us in the lobby. We got signed in and waited for the other passengers. Finally, around 5:00 am we piled into a van and headed to the field from where the balloon was to take off. The support crew had already started prepping the balloon and within 15 minutes it was time for us to load up. The Cameron Balloon for 8 passengers apparently holds 250,000 cubic feet of air, which takes into account the temps, combined weights of the passengers and pilot, wind speed, and the lift needed. Once our pilot was certain everything was per calculation, she gave the green signal that it was time. Ianthe is an excellent pilot and took the time to give us a running commentary on what she was doing. She even allowed us to pump hot air, as needed. We were aloft for about an hour over beautiful country, which is home to some zebra, impala, and other herbivores, along with farms and ranches. We ranged in altitude from around 4,000 feet to a bit over 5,000 feet. I made the observation that it was tranquil and peaceful to be aloft, which the pilot and others agreed. It was really cool to see Ianthe coordinate with her ground crew to find the spot to land. She had prepped us on how we had to crouch as we landed, which she nailed perfectly! After the landing, per hot air balloon tradition, we got to partake of champagne and got our certificates!

Such a fun and memorable experience. Thanks to Japie our pilot and Marius. Our 10th wedding anniversary is definitely one we won't forget!

This was an amazing experience! I considered this a must do activity if you are in Joburg or its surrounding area. The other commenters didn’t disappoint, the flight was amazing, the pilots were so nice and informative and the VIEWS!! So beautiful, from start to finish. The breakfast at the lodge was delicious. It’s rather cold in the morning so I would suggest that you dress appropriately. I would do this activity again!

We had an absolutely amazing experience on our safari balloon flight! Our pilot, Té, was not only highly skilled but also funny and engaging, which made the journey even more enjoyable. Floating quietly over the landscape was breathtaking, and we were lucky enough to spot several animals—including rhinos! The landing was smooth and followed by a lovely treat: a refreshing mimosa and a delicious breakfast. Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. Highly recommended!

Perfect weather which included a perfect sunrise. Our female pilot did an excellent job. She was able to land the large passenger basket on the trailer. Very knowledgeable and professional.

Allround amazing. We had a very experienced pilot, who also explained the dynamics of the wind that allows ballooning, in a humourous way, while we could gaze at the views and enjoy wonderous animal spotting. Thank you Marc!

What a truly bucket list experience for my birthday in the sky. Pilots were so warm and welcoming and explained everything about the flight before during and great history of ballooning , champagne toast after the flight. Flight was stunning at sunset took so many photos and videos from start to finish. Safe and extremely enjoyable, highly recommend it to anyone.

What a fantastic morning with Airventures! Felt very safe in the hands of Marius, Tay (apologies for any misspelling) and all the support workers. Everyone was very courteous and knowledgeable and the hospitality was wonderful. We were lucky to have Tay as our lovely pilot. She pointed out all the animals and significant views as she was brilliantly navigating the way over the valley. We safely landed to a treat of a mimosa and transported back to the Kloofzicht lodge for a delicious breakfast. Would highly recommend this trip, especially for special celebrations. Thanks guys. You were awesome! 😊

We had a fabulous experience. All well organised and ran smoothly, from the first cup of tea to the fantastic breakfast. The balloon ride was brilliant. We took many photos and saw zebras, spring book and antelopes. We also saw some rhinos! Our pilot was great and the whole experience is definitely something to tick off your bucket list! Totally recommend. I loved it.

It was a fantastic experience! Not to miss! Great location, pilots are were our guides and told us lots of interesting stories within all the time- good communicators! We enjoyed fantastic landscapes and saw many wild animals during our flight. Everything finished up with brut and orange juice just at the spot and we had a beautiful breakfast at the lodge! Can't recommend enough this company and airballooning with them! Our pilot Harold and the pilot of bigger balloon are very attentive and helpful. The guys who helped to start and stop balloons took lots of fotos at our phones and no one asked for tips. All experience- never forget!!!

Dress warmly and in layers! It is cold in the morning! The balloon ride was beautiful and we saw a lot of wildlife. Breakfast was abundant and delicious. This activity is well worth it if you have the time and transport. I hired a driver through Viator who picked me up from my hotel and returned me there afterwards.

Such an amazing experience, we had literally the best pilot (Japie) who navigated the flight so everyone can get awesome pictures of the animals we saw. Everyone had amazing knowledge which I really enjoyed learning and teh atmosphere was sooo enjoyable.

This was the most surreal, beautiful, scenic, experience I have ever had. It was definitely bucket list material, and an out of this world feeling. Thank you Jaapie for an amazing flight and smooth landing. It was totally safe, well planned, fantastic value for money when you see all the fantastic people that run and drive around from inflation to deflation. Very accessible and a wonderful way to experience the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site from the air.

From beginning to end the experience was incredible ,from the welcoming hot drink at the hotel through the safety briefing and finally down to the launch site, we felt safe and relaxed. Japie our pilot exuded calm assured confidence, throughout the 50min flight giving out information about the terrain and animals below us. Can't recommend this company and Japie enough.

Everything was 10/10. My partner and I had such a lovely time. From the booking, transfer to and from our hotel, the flight, breakfast…basically everything was executed perfectly. Our pilots Andries & Harold were top notch and would definitely recommend anyone that wants to experience this to go ahead and book it.
