We did the Rhino & Lion Park plus Wonder Caves. The whole experience was amazing. Shane is a star & absolute top bloke!! Made the adventure something to remember. Caves were great addition to experience being on the reservation. Would highly recommend the whole thing - but do it with Shane to ensure top experience!!!!

Great news the Sterkfontein Caves are open after been closed for 2 years . Entrance R 150 South Africa has yielded fossils of some of the earliest known dinosaurs, dating back at least 200-million years. Fossils of our distant mammal-like ancestors, which lived more than 200-million years ago, have also been found in South Africa. Africa is the birthplace of humankind. This is where our collective umbilical cord lies buried. Hominids – the ancestors of modern humans – first emerged about seven million years ago, in Africa. Many significant fossil finds have been made in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, including the famous fossils “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”. The Cradle of Humankind is a paleoanthropological site and is located about 50 km northwest of Johannesburg, South Africa, in the Gauteng province. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999, the site is home to the largest concentration of human ancestral remains anywhere in the world. Entrance Fee R 150
This is a drive through the nature reserve where we can spot a number of wild animals including Lion, Rhino and Wild Dog. Situated in a World Heritage Site, 1 200 hectare park is home to over 700 game including white rhino, lion, buffalo, cheetah, wild dog, hippo and crocodile. A centre houses, amongst others, Bengal and Syberian tigers, jaguars and white lions. Entrance Fee R 250

I absolutely holidayed in South Africa to experience a safari tour. The safari at the lion and rhino park was and is the glitter of life. I was able to get up quite close in a vehicle to the rare white lions and rare cheetahs. Also the visit to the Sterkfontain caves was incredible.
We visited the Cradle of Humandkind area which is located a short distance from Johannesburg. The Maropeng Museum provided an excellent overview of fossils and it had interactive exhibits. Next, we went to Lesedi Cultural Village. We toured four different traditional villages, participated in a drumming activity, and watched the cultural dance show. A buffet lunch was also available at the end. Shane was a fantastic guide and he was willing to answer all of our questions about South Africa. Highly recommend this tour!
Shane was a great tour guide. Told us about the area as we rode to Cradle of Humankind. Stayed close enough to give us information, but didn't smother us. When we went to Rhino & Lion Park, he knew where all the best places were. On the way back, gave us a restaurant recommendation and dropped us off at the restaurant
I had a great experience hiking in Cradle Moon with Shane. We walked around the lake and it was beautiful. I enjoyed seeing the animals while walking. Shane is very knowledgeable and a fantastic guide. I highly recommend this tour for a small taste of Africa.
Shane is a wonderful and thoughtful tour guide. We spotted many animals, including the white lions, a pack of wild dogs and cheetahs, just after feeding time. Its best to arrive early, which increases the odds of spotting the animals.
It's a great trip that takes in all that is Africa but on a smaller scale than some of the other parks but well worth a visit. Shane the guide was excellent and went out of his way to show and find me the animals
Excellent, interesting, and knowledgeable guide...learned a lot...cradle is fascinating...animal park was excellent...don't miss tour
What an amazing tour! Shane’s communication was great, he was punctual to pick us up, and we chatted away as we drove to the Rhino and Lion park. At the park Shane knew all the ins and outs and we got to see some amazing animals thanks to him knowing the feeding times and where to take us first. He was great at spotting them and all we had to do was keep our eyes peeled. He also shared lots of interesting animal facts with us. At the caves, Shane gave us lots of background info about the disoveries of Mrs. Ples and Little Foot, before handing us off to the guide to go explore the caves. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would have definitely not gotten the same experience if we didn’t have Shane to guide us.
Shane was an amazing guide during our tour - always ready to answer our questions and very knowledgeable of the region. This tour is a great mix of history and science and nature and wildlife - packed up in ~6 hours from when you depart to your return. We were able to see lots of animals in the reserve and had a great trip to the Sterkfontein caves where we learned more about the history of humankind.
If you are short on time in Joburg and wanted to do a mini safari and visit the cradle of humankind area, then this is the tour for you. We managed to see lions, cheetah, rhinos and more at Bothongo Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve in the morning and went to Sterkfontein Cave at around noon time. Shane is full of experience and is very informative
I did this tour solo and it was absolutely perfect. Shane was an incredible guide — professional, punctual, knowledgeable, and extremely kind. At the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve, we saw many animals up close, and Shane explained everything with passion and detail. Then, at the Sterkfontein Caves, he gave fascinating insights into the history and archaeology of the site, making the experience even more special. Even though I was traveling alone, I felt completely safe, comfortable, and well taken care of the entire time. I highly recommend this tour with Shane. Truly an unforgettable day!
I live part-time in SA and part-time in New York City. My sister from Illinois was visiting me in SA for the first time, and I'd always wanted to visit the Cradle of Humankind. So I felt this would be an ideal time to go, with my sister. Shane approached us in the hotel lobby 15 mins late of our pickup spot quite distressed, complaining that we hadn't gotten his three messages that morning saying he wanted to leave earlier, although we had showed up exactly at the time we were booked. He also lectured us like we were children on choosing that particular pickup location at the hotel when we were not guests at the hotel (he had inquired at the front desk of our whereabouts). We tried to explain to him that the hotel was a mixed-use hotel/apartment complex, and that we were residents of the apartments, which is why our names didn't appear as hotel guests. And he lectured us (again, like we were children) to not put that hotel location for future tours, if we are not guests of the hotel (totally ignoring our explanation that we did, in fact, live there). Overall, we found him extremely off-putting, agitated and arrogant towards two African-American women who he had only just met moments before. Then, he made us very uncomfortable on the ride with his flurry of questions of who we were, where we were from and why we were in South Africa. Considering this $90/person 7-hour excursion does not pay for anything on the tour (not even a bottle of water), except for the ride to the locations and the company of tour guide, we declined the tour. We would have been happy to pay for all of the entrance fees, water and our lunch, actually, had he been better company. We booked him because of all the positive reviews he's received. But our experience was surprisingly contrary to those reviews. And we can only take an educated guess around why that might have been the case...
Shane hosted a fun day tour, full of beauty and novel experiences. His knowledge of the area and of the game in the park was impressive. The ride was comfortable and relaxing, and he was a great conversationalist. The game park was a treat to see - along with other animals there were white lions! If you have one day in Johannesburg I recommend this tour and guide. 5*stars
Excellent knowledgeable guide. Great on getting us to see wildlife in the game reserve. Very friendly, easygoing. Great trip.
Very interesting our, our guide Shane very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The safari is very beautiful, you see many animals, the museum is vwry nice
The description is spot on to what we received. We would certainly do this activity again. It was very interesting. Well worth doing.
Rich planet history preserved there. It is a valuable educational tour. Ideal for schools and group visits. Their online booking system is efficient and safes us more check in time
It was a well planned trip to ensure animal sightings during the game drive. Shane, our guide, was very experienced, knowledgeable and friendly. He gave a lot of information about each and every aspect of the tour. Overall a great experience !
Shane was really cool to hang with for the day. Super chilled and easy to get along with. He picked us up on time, shared awesome info on the area and the tour and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. Communication was excellent via what’s app and very reassuring as a driver and guide. Highly recommend for any of his tours. They all sound fab.
Really enjoyed the day. Shane was an excellent guide. He knew the best places for us to get a good view of the animals.
Shane was an outstanding guide. He was kind /friendly. His knowledge of the sites was great and extremely informative.
There are no words to express how amazing our experience with Shane was. We saw every animal up close and personal and he seems to have a beautiful connection with the animals. You will not be disappointed with Shane. This is a must do excursion. Highly recommended.
It was a good scary 😹😹 experience. Very safe and no need to be worried about anything. I like it….
The tour was amazing! Shane knew exactly where to go in the lion park for each animal so we could get up close to them all and the cradle of humankind was incredibly cool and interesting. Shane was a great and knowledgeable guide and also was a great conversationalist. Will definitely do another tour when we come back to South Africa in the future.
Shane is very informative, kind, and professional. He was very accomadating. Very safe driver as well. He was open to all of our questions and provided recommendations for other outings.
Flight cancellation left me with an extra day in Johannesburg so I booked this excursion with Shane. I was able to see the rhinos and cheetah that had eluded me in the national parks..The museum was very interesting with innovative and informative displays. Highly recommend for anyone travelling with children. Shane was very friendly and knowledgeable and made sure I got back in time for my flight. Overall, a very enjoyable day.
What a great tour! Shane knew exactly what he was doing, we left early in the morning and got to the Rhino and Lion park just in time to see all the animals, it was a great trip and great conversation with tips on what to do the rest of my visit in Johannesburg, I would definitely book another trip with Shane!!
Shane is third-generation South African so exceptionally knowledgeable which made our tour so full and interesting. We loved his bonus language instruction helping us engage and interact. With a natural animal intuition, we were so pleased to see the full variety of animals throughout the park. Shane is very generous with his time and charmingly kind to everyone. He made us feel safe and comfortable, and we enjoyed our day so much!
Guide was excellent. Informative and intuitive. He worked hard to give the best experience possible. Highly recommend
The close-up experience with the lions, cheetahs & rhinos at the park was a particular highlight. I also found the exhibitions at the Cradle of Humankind to be extremely interesting & informative.
I cannot recommend one of Shane’s tours enough! We originally booked this tour because we wanted to see the Cradle of Humankind, but the Rhino and Lion park quickly became our favorite part because of Shane’s enthusiasm and knowledge about the animals. Shane was flexible with the meeting time and the drop off (and gave us a fabulous lunch recommendation) and we really enjoyed our time together. If we had more time in Johannesburg, we would book another tour with Shane.
Thanks Shane for a great day, the game veiwing in the park was exceptional. Your knowledge and guiding helped to complete a great day out.
We were picked up on time from our apartment for this private tour. Our guide Shane was knowledgeable and pleasantly communicative throughout the tour. Moreover being an animal lover himself, he very passionately showed us around the wildlife park. The second part of the tour highlighted human evolution. This was a day very well spent and we got good insight into local practices and culture.
Maropeng was interesting but seemed more geared toward kids than adults. The lion park was amazing. I got some great photos and videos. Seeing the white lions up close was scary and beautiful.
Shane is a great guy, his tour was really nice. I recommend this tour for couples and families. Thank you Shane for a nice day
Shane was fantastic. We had an extra day in Johannesburg before going to Kruger National Park so we booked this tour. Very informative and gave us a great taster of Johannesburg. Highly recommended!
Shane is a people person! We got along great immediately. He is an encyclopedia of knowledge regarding South Africa, the geology, and the local wildlife. We spent as much time at the museum as we wanted. While at the Lion Park, Shane ensured we saw all of the animals & got us amazing, up -close views. I can’t wait to share my videos & pics with my friends & family. The tour was personalized just for my husband & myself & we couldn’t have been happier. I take various tours all over the world & this is by far one of the best! It’s obvious when someone loves what they do, don’t hesitate, choose Shane!
Shane is AMAZING! He's very informative, funny and will show you what you want to see and MORE! He also looks after and will take great care of his Clients! We will book with Shane every time! Thank You Shane!!!
Shane drove us from our Johannesburg Hotel to see the Cradle of Humankind, where we learned about the hominid fossils found in the region and the Rhino and Lion Park, where we saw lions, cheetahs and wild dogs very close-up. The carnivores were fed at 1:00 pm on Sunday, and Shane knew just where to park to have a front-row seat! Shane provided excellent conversation during our drive, discussing South African history and his interests in cycling, hiking, and other athletic activities. He was everything you would want a guide to be. We learned a lot and felt well cared for every step along the way.
Had the most amazing time! Shane is so knowledgeable and his love for the animals and the land is profound! And the aninals know it! Brearhtaking and humbling experience all at once, being so close to these powerful, beautiful animals. Thank you Shane, we will remember this day for a long long time! Gillian & Heleni, UK
We absolutely loved Shane. We had a perfect day with him. He is super knowledgeable and has a fun personality. The Lion Park was awesome and Shane knew the folks that worked there and the spots the animals often were. We highly recommend this tour, we wouldn’t have changed a thing.
We loved the Tour! We actually were surprised in how many things we got to see, Shane is the kindness and most friendly tour guide we ever had! that Definetely we’ll reach him out once we come back to Joburg! Really recommended :)
"The tour was fantastic! Shane, our guide, was really friendly and knew so much about the animals we saw. It made the experience extra special and enjoyable."
We had a great trip with Shane. He first took us to the Cradle of Humankind and then to the Rhino and Lion Park. Sadly we did not see any rhinos, but the lions and wild dogs were spectacular and Shane made great efforts to get us the best views as he knows the park and it's routine very well! Afterwards, he kindly dropped us off at JNB for our flight to CPT. It was an amazing experience and Shane's knowledge and experience was very beneficial. Many thanks Shane.
It was an amazing tour, and the guide, Shane, was friendly and gave us a lot of information. The tour started by visiting the cradle of humankind museum, then visiting the Rhino and Lion reserve. I enjoyed a lot. Much of love to this beautiful country (South Africa) from Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Erbil
Had the most amazing day with Shane .. thoroughly recommend .. will use Shane again … His knowledge helped us to capture incredible pictures .. no zoom needed for my lion picture …
Seeing the animals upfront in their habitat. Rosming, walking it was experience. I also enjoy going to the Cradle House of human mankid.
Shawn was amazing making sure my short time in Johannesburg allowed me to see both the animal reserve and the cradle of humankind museum. My time in South Africa will be a highlight of all my travels.
Well organized and very knowledgeable guide. The whole day was well structured and memorable. I can recommend Shane as a good guide and great host. A 4x4 car would have earned you the 5th star.
