Lesedi Cultural Village Tour

This amazing cultural immersion starts with a warm musical greeting, followed by the presentation of your African name, welcoming you into the family! Everyone gets a chance to join in the fabulous, immersive, drumming experience, followed by an expert guided walk to each tribe's village introducing you to their language and customs. The dancing is phenomenal, followed by a delicious cultural feast, accompanied by authentic cultural instrumentation! The experience exceeded our expectations! Our friendly guide, Griffith, was very informative and made the entire experience easy from pickup to drop-off. We highly recommend it!

The driver (he did introduce himself) was fantastic in the crush of Johannesburg drivers 🙄, the car was very smooth. We don't know how your driver could change gears all the time and drive so safely 🤷 The Lasedi experience was good 👍 The way everyone dressed in their cultural traditional clothing, including the participants. The tour leader was very funny and yet told good stories. The drumming was excellent too. The way we walked around the village and there was excellent interaction. We didn't eat lunch because we were full from breakfast, but it looked tasty and delicious 😋 So, altogether, a great experience. P&N

The entire experience was well organized, and the staff were welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the cultural demonstrations and performances, which brought the traditions to life and made the visit both educational and entertaining. The hospitality and attention to detail made us feel welcome throughout the tour. It was a memorable experience and a great opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of South Africa. I would highly recommend the Lesedi Cultural Village tour to anyone visiting the area. It’s an experience that combines education, entertainment, and genuine cultural appreciation in a very enjoyable way!

Being our first time to Joburg, I knew it would be great to understand the culture. Evie, our tour guide, led us to the right places. Lesedi Cultural Village was one of the standout days of our visit. Our local guide walked us through four South African cultures using stories, music, and dance, and visitors are pulled right into the middle of it. Nobody stays a spectator for long. The performances were excellent, and the buffet let us try local dishes we’d never otherwise have ordered, ostrich and antelope included. Evie’s running commentary throughout added context we wouldn’t have picked up on our own. I highly recommend this activity if you want to learn more about South African culture.

We had just a short time in South Africa so wanted to learn as much as possible quickly. Lesedi is designed for this purpose. It was a well organised but interactive and fun experience for all who attended - age range today around 8 to 80. The experience involved introduction to cultures, languages, traditional ways of living and eating as well as song and dance. Our experience was enhanced by having booked a private tour. We were collected from our accommodation at the arranged time by a wonderful young Zulu man who shared stories about his village and his life along the way. We would highly recommend this experience and our driver who was careful, courteous and very interesting.

Safely our guide picked us up right on schedule. He was warm, professional and wanted to ensure we had a great day. The village has set up 5 sample tribal villages where you meet a few residents and learn a bit about the culture and traditions of each. There is a small amount of walking between each complex. Wear comfortable clothes and a hat. The dance exhibition was exhilarating and really well done. We had the added bonus of being escorted around by a village guide and the Chief.

Professional and friendly driver. Lesedi Cultural Center offers a wonderful opportunity to learn and have immersive experiences with some of the tribal cultures from South Africa. I fully enjoyed it! The lunch buffet was also very good.

My Guide & Driver was Gefretti. I knew it would be a good day when he arrived for pick up smiling, AND EARLY! It's only an hour's drive north from the city to Lesedi and the conversation was free and easy. On arrival, I meet the other 12 or so tourists and we're taken straight into the dome shoped 'Boma' for a drumming lesson! Fun! Then a walk throught the village to learn about the customs, clothing and histories of all the tribes we're here to meet. The grounds are lush and leafy. Then the highlight - a good half hour if energetic dance after dance with beats that wake up the soul! A great day out!

Lesedi cultural village and Elephant walk booked through Viator with their local tour operator, SAVIRGIO ENTERPRISE was a total bust. I was scheduled for a hotel pickup at 10:30, when no one showed by 11:00, I called Viator who contacted tour operator Savirgivo. Tour operator called me at 11:15 to tell me since I was the only guest, they were cancelling unless I paid double. Total bull S***t. This operator knew when I booked months ago, I was a solo traveler. Not a reputable operator, too bad if they didn't have other guests, that is a chance they take when they confirm a booking for a solo traveler. If this company is located in the USA, I will seriously consider suing them, after all, I am an attorney and that is what I do for a living. Viator said they are processing a full refund, however, additional compensation should be given for my inconvenience.

I had 24 hours to spare and chose this tour to be able to sample South African village life. As a solo traveller it was great to find there was only one other tourist in the car up to the village. We had a great time getting to know each other and it was great to know one person once we arrived at the village where we were among more tourists from other groups. Everyone was very welcoming and genuinely pleased to see us and share their culture. We had a great few hours there and I highly recommend this tour.

Had a wonderful trip experience with Philippians company. The driver for the day Mr. Griffith was so calm and helped me reach the airport on time after the village experience. The cultural tour is a must to understand South African traditions and beliefs.

Honestly one of my favorite activities I did in Joburg. I loved learning about the different tribes and cultures. Their dance was so beautiful. Definitely a must if you are in Johannesburg!

I was picked up from my hotel on time and driven to the village where I and two other ladies were treated to a wonderful cultural experience, complete with learning to drum!

If you only have a short time in the Johannesburg area, this is an excellent choice. Great cultural experience, especially for those unfamiliar with the history of the different tribes and people.

Lesedi cultural village is a great place to learn about the different local cultures in South Africa. The dance performances were very entertaining. Gabriel the guide was very informative about the current and past situation in South Africa during the drive to Lesedi.

We had a wonderful experience witnessing cultures and knowing more of what we weren’t aware of, it was a beautiful place to be and the people there were welcoming.

Wow, did not expect how fantastic this would be. Amazing cultural experience where you learn about 5 different tribes of South America by super enthusiastic staff members. You learn to drum, tour the different villages, and get treated to a fantastic dance show. Then you finish it off with a delicious lunch buffet. Don't hesitate to do this! Also, you can stay the night in one of the villages (the rooms have wifi/AC/tvs).

What a great way to learn about a number of the tribes in South Africa. We were created with singing and dancing and then brought in to learn how to play a drum. We then were brought around the camp to learn about the different tribes followed by a dancing and music performance. Everyone was great and my whole family enjoyed it. Our driver picked us up and dropped us back at our hotel. He was from Philippians 4 Tour and his name was Bobo. He answered all of our questions, arrived on time for pickup and was terrific. Highly recommend.

You can learn a little more of the tribes and have an unique experience during the presentation. You won't regret booking it.

This tour to The Lesedi Cultural Village is a must see & must do! The experience is unmatched & demonstrates the history, culture & pride of South Africa! Our guide, BoBo, was energetic, fun, knowledgeable & accommodating. He was punctual & picked up our group of 9 people from our hotel. On our drive in we saw giraffes & on the drive back, zebras! They were just breathtaking. He shared with us the history of Johannesburg & answered our questions. We arrived to the Lesedi Cultural Village & we were immediately immersed in this cultural world. The singing, dancing, drumming lessons & the histories of each tribe was amazing. I would absolutely recommend Lesedi Cultural Village & Philippians 4 Four. We did this tour last year, we did it this year & we would do it again! Thank you Solly & BoBo for this phenomenal experience!

This is an absolute must! We are so glad we had this experience! It was some informative. Learning about the different African tribes and customs was a much needed history lesson. The drum lessons and African dance was something we will never forget. And our driver and tour person Tshepo was amazing! Highly recommend!

Our guide was delightful but one must understand that this is a simulation not an actual village of the ingenious people. Thank you to the employees at the cultural village who tried to make the experience engaging. I’m hindsight I wouldn’t have gone, it wasn’t my visits to actual Maasai villages.

Bobo did a great job of sharing a lot of great history on the way to the Lesedi Cultural Village and back. The Lesedi Cultural Village itself was a great, immersive experience offering a lot of insights into the tribes in South Africa and their general culture.
