I travel to Johannesburg every second week, and stay at Fire & Ice. It really is like my second home! The staff from front reception to the restaurant to management and everyone in between go out of their way to make each stay pleasant and hassle free.
Located in the Melrose arch precinct it is very safe and you can walks to a number of excellent restaurants and entertainment options. Melrose Arch is also well located for business and pleasure in Johannesburg.
Rooms are very comfortable and the beds sleep well!

I really enjoyed my stay here. I stayed for one night while in transit home from a work trip. I had a late flight, and Smangele was incredibly understanding and accommodating. They recognized my Marriott status and, based on availability, allowed me a later checkout, which I truly appreciated.
It's thoughtful gestures like that which leave the biggest impression. Thank you so much for your kindness and help! I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone and would gladly stay here again.
Lovely location!!! Front desk staff were amazing and super accommodating. I felt safe and welcomed. Smangele is a great leader and customer service representative. Marriott should be extremely happy to have her!!
The hotel is perfectly situated in Melrose Arch close to all sorts of tasty restaurants. The breakfast was plentiful with lots of variety, including an omelet station. Qiniso was our waiter both days and was quite friendly and helpful!
I have stayed in Marriott hotels all over the US paying cash or using points. The service and amenities I received from this Protea was far and above anything I’ve experienced in the US. There are incredibly friendly staff everywhere, the value was off the charts, the location was perfect. You could walk to anything and the highway was close by when you needed to go somewhere outside Sandton.
My only wish is that you could stay at a Marriott in the US and be treated so well. They are always polite, which brings me back, but the value has never been at this level.
If you want to go to Johannesburg, this was the safest neighborhood recommended and it totally lived up to the task. I’m new to SA but this place was perfect. FYI the breakfast started every day off just right.
