It is important to me to be completely honest. We really loved the hotel, and even more so the restaurant. However, I would recommend being cautious with the hotel's additional services. We sent out laundry (approximately five kilograms) without checking the price beforehand, as we had done everywhere else during our month-long trip across South Africa. We were shocked to receive a charge of 2,900 rand for the laundry. At every other place we stayed, the cost for a similar amount never exceeded 600 rand. Another incident that left a bad impression was a tour we booked to the Apartheid Museum and Soweto. We had agreed on a guided tour of both sites. In reality, we were simply given a ride to the museum, where we were dropped off and told that we would be touring the museum on our own. We were then informed that another driver would come to pick us up once we finished. (The second part of the tour was fine.) Although we received a partial refund from the hotel after explaining the situation, we were undoubtedly very disappointed by the experience.

This is a really cool and interesting atmospheric hotel. The day cool is gorgeous and the staff are upbeat and engaging. Thoroughly enjoyed a brief stay here with two children. There is an excellent curation of art in the hotel which lends a lot of interest. The Restaurant and bar are a fun place to spend time. The only downside is a lack of swimming pool if you’re travelling with kids
I just finished a 5 night stay at this hotel and found it to be an uneven experience. The main issue is that the hotel can be quite noisy. I was originally put in a room on level 7 that had very noisy ventilation that included an occasional thumping noise at night. After complaining I was moved to a quieter room on level 6, with the staff upgrading me which I appreciated. However, despite being double glazed, the windows in the new room let in a surprising amount of street noise. The hotel sponsored a running event on one morning of my stay (the Youth Day public holiday) that included a DJ playing outside the hotel from just before 7AM! This seemed well intentioned but rather unwise. The breakfast in the restaurant attached to the hotel was excellent and I really liked the hotel decor. The rooms were intelligently designed, with the bathrooms in particular being great. Service standards from staff were uneven. While most staff were helpful, I struggled to understand what the role of the team at the main door was: they would sometimes say hello, sometimes open the door for me and sometimes ignore me completely. One of them closed the door in my face as he was wandering outside to check his phone! The lifts are very slow and are used by other businesses in the building, which was irritating. Overall, I think this hotel is best suited to people staying in Rosebank for a short period for the nightlife.
Disappointed and insulted - Nice hotel but bad experience. The disappointment: I chose this hotel for a two nights trip to Joburg on our way to Madikwe Game Reserve. I booked 5 rooms for me and my friends - all couples. I was the only one traveling solo. Checked in around 5l pm. Was given a room in the 10th floor next to the emergency exit stair case...The room looked very nice but I quickly notices that it was very noisy. The noise was coming from the window which was broken and from the ventilation on the other side of the room. I immediately figured out that I had been out in a defectous room. It would have been hard to sleep with those loud noises. I asked straight away to change rooms which didn't seem to surprise the receptionist who kept me waiting for more than half an hour to give me another room - "I m looking to upgrade you", she argued. Long story short, the receptionist confessed that I was not the first client to complain about that room. I was finally given the same category of room. The issue was solved in a very unprofessional way and without taking any responsibility. The "cherry on top" was the next day's call from the "manager" at 8h25 am to ask me if I had slept well - I was sleeping well untill you called me, miss! Hyde hotel, don't try to fool a solo traveler. If a room needs fixing, fix it! Don't underestimate your guest by trying to sell a room that is in poor conditions. And do not "try" to pretend upgrade a client to fool him more. General review: 1. The hotel: well located in the vibrant Rosebank neighborhood, in front of Rosebank's shopping mall and surrounded by many restaurants and cafes. Maybe one of the few areas of Johannesburg where you can walk freely - together with Melrose Arch. The hotel is very trendy with a nice bar and restaurant area. The staff is friendly - but unprofessional . PS: your elevators need a change. There are three and all three are extremely slow. No service elevator either. The room: I booked a standard room which was actually quite spacious - compared to European standards - and nicely decorated, but above all the bedding is comfortable and of good quality. They don't provide slippers nor basic amenities, but you can ask for. I also asked for feather pillows. 2. The service: quite bad whether it be at the reception or at the restaurant. The hotel should train its staff to the international standards of it's guests. At the restaurant, for example, waiters cannot take you through the menu nor answer questions about the dishes. Also, don't forget to double check the bill before you pay. 3. The food: good. The lunch/dinner menu is more Mediterranean than local. The options are varied, fresh and tasty. As for the breakfasts I think they could do better. It is a mix of a tyni unappealing buffet and a la carte. Although it has a nice vibe, comfortable bedding and good location, the room episode was a no go and therefore cannot recommend this hotel. There are many other nice hotels in Rosebank and Melrose Arch that, I am sure, won't fool a client and would handle such situation with more care and respect.
This was my third time staying at this hotel, and just like before, everything was absolutely wonderful. The highlight of this hotel is definitely its staff. It was so nice to see familiar faces again! The team is incredibly friendly, attentive, and they truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I want to give a special shout out to Tanara (guest relations) - she made me feel so special and truly valued as a returning guest. Beyond the excellent service, the hotel is spotless. The rooms and common areas are very clean and well-maintained. I can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended!"
