Just a 3-minute walk from Jan Thiel Beach, Papagayo Beach Resort offers a beach club, outdoor pool and lush gardens. Each tropical-style villa has free Wi-Fi and a fully equipped kitchen. The luxurious Papagayo villas feature air-conditioned bedrooms and a living room with flat-screen cable TV, while the open-plan kitchens include a microwave and dishwasher. Some villas have ocean views and all have porch which opens out from the lounge. Toasters are available upon request. The Papagayo’s restaurant serves local and international cuisine, including an a la carte breakfast. The resort also features elegant lounge areas, sun terrace and a kid’s club. Across the street you will find the Papagayo Beach Plaza, where guests enjoy free access to the beach club and gym. There is also a spa, a casino and several shops and restaurants. The center of Willemstad is a 15-minute drive away, while Hato International Airport is a 30-minute drive away.

First glance, great hotel. Not the newest but in decent condition.
Further than that, I would not book here again. Upon checkout we were met by an extremely grumpy employee. Who, after making us go back to our room, to bring their hotel towels all the way back to the beach hut, didn’t even ask us how our stay was. The part where we had to clean up their towels, was not explained once during those 2 weeks where we had our stay.
Also, the exuberant pricing for the cabanas, on top of the money we already pay to just stay at the hotel, is ridiculous.
And to top it off, on day 4, they didn’t clean the room and we didn’t even get new towels until 9pm.
We are here currently and it has been a terrible stay so far. When we checked in at 5pm they said each day you have to return to the reception building for a pool towel. There is one towel per person for 24hrs. We were not able to go to the pool because they don't give out towels after 5 although the pool closes at 6pm. The villas have no a/c except in the bedroom. The entrance door to my villa is broken in the center which will allow anything to come in. The wooden privacy blinds in the bathroom are also broken, we had to cover it with towels so my daughter could shower. The bed linen in the secondary bedroom is stained. Then ..a huge and I mean 3.5 inch bug was in the bedroom. It took 30 minutes to get rid of it. It says resort but mor4e of a run down hut with a fresh coat of paint.
Our stay at this villa was quite disappointing. Upon arrival, the AC was turned off and the villa was extremely hot—especially since there is no air conditioning in the living room, only a fan. It took a long time to cool down the bedrooms.
There is only one physical key provided (no electronic access), which is inconvenient for a group stay. We also experienced a significant number of bug bites during our visit.
The kitchen have no basic utensils like knives or proper cooking tools, making it impractical to actually prepare meals. Additionally, only four cups of coffee were provided for the first day, and nothing afterward.
Some design choices were also confusing—for example, the bathroom mirror lights only work when the main bathroom light is on, which defeats their purpose.
Overall, the property does not meet expectations of a “luxury” experience. Compared to destinations like Cancun, Punta Cana, or even Aruba, the level of comfort, amenities, and service falls short. The service, in particular, lacks attentiveness, and there seems to be little focus on customer experience.
In its current state, this destination does not feel ready to compete with more established tourist locations, especially those catering to American travelers.

The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was excellent, and the food and drinks were amazing. The staff made us feel very welcome and everything was well organized. Perfect place to relax, enjoy the beach, and have a great time with friends and family. Definitely a place I would visit again. Highly recommended! 💙
This resort unfortunately peaked long before 2015. The rooms are worn down and really need some fresh paint, new flooring and wallpaper. We had to switch rooms during our stay due to TONS of cockroaches and they did not even apologize for the inconvenience. We also had a reoccurring problem with staff that didn't have enough experience so every interaction with them felt half way. The safety at the gate in this locked resort is also very poor. I can only remember a few times that they actually lifted their heads to check who's driving in on the property. The pool wasn't cleaned to often so guests would end up picking up leafs from the pool themselfs. The resort has TONS of potential and the surroundings are stunning but the staff and the standard was not worth the money AT ALL. Not even a nice beachfront pool can compensate for that. Do not stay here if you want some peace at mind, it is not worth it. If you like rain showers with impossible temperature adjustment and tons of cockroaches as house pets then this is the place for you. Hopefully they will get this nightmare sorted out for future guests because this experience was at the lowest level.
