Went again for the walk after a few years and found it even better and more informative . Neeraj has been working hard on his researchβs. This walk was truly inspiringβan eye-opener for those unaware of the value of water in desert regions. It beautifully illustrated how the people of Rajasthan have survived harsh climatic conditions and water scarcity through conservation and mutual cooperation. The design of the water harvesting system is both unique and an architectural marvel. A must for heritage lovers
Brilliant experience! One of a kind!
The walk was amazing. Neeraj was very attentive from the time I enquired about the walk. He has done some great research, and the walk is not a typical heritage walk. It brings in history through the story of water in Jaipur. I happened to meet a fellow traveller, and we had a great time. The walk was slow and gave ample time to take breaks. The whole experience was conversational and not one-way, which was amazing.
Had a wonderful guided tour of the area around the nahargarh fort with our family! Neeraj was engaging and passionate and interesting to listen to. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for an interesting, enjoyable tour in Jaipur that is slightly different from the typical sightseeing tour.
I along with 13 of my students, my wife and daughter embarked on a water heritage walk in Nahargarh. Our guide, Neeraj was knowledgeable, engaging and passionate. We all enjoyed our experience and take back memories , new knowledge and appreciation of water as a lifeline to life, culture and celebration. Highly recommended tour when you are in jaipur.
After several routine tours of forts and palaces across Rajasthan, Neerajβs tour provided such a refreshingly different perspective on Jaipurβs heritage. This should be the first thing one should do when visiting Jaipur.
A great tour with Neeraj, he's has not only the tour of the place itself and the water system feeding the fort and wider city, but a load of extra maps, videos and photos to contextualise what you're seeing on the ground. I also really liked how he links the cultural aspects of water into the physical infrastructure, it really gives you a sense of the history of Jaipur and it's uniqueness. Very helpful and knowledgeable, I highly recommend the tour.
Had an excellent, informative walk with Neeraj seeing a totally different side of Nahargarh and, indeed, Jaipur. He is incredibly knowledgable about not only the history of ingenious water engineering in Rajasthan, but also about Indian history, culture, and politics. I felt like I was seeing and understanding the city and state from a totally new viewpoint and getting a better grasp on understanding the complexities of building and governing within a desert area. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in water and politics and those who want to get a unique understanding of Jaipur and Rajasthan.
Exceptional Tour with Neeraj. Presentation of the History of the development of Indian cities in the desert despite the lack of water. And complete visit of the irrigation system invented and built to bring and preserve the water at Nahargarh at the top of the Hill. The tour is fascinating! And Neerajβs knowledge is unlimited. The walk was very informative and engaging. Learnt about the foundations on which Jaipur was built and the feats that made it possible. Neeraj was well informed and answered any questions we had and was a pleasure to spend the 2 hours walking with.
Neeraj has put lots of time on research n visits to craft this interesting tour that answers the question of the water needs of a nation for water in a parched land. This is a walking tour that brings history to life.
Very interesting tour of a true engineering marvel. It does nicely summarize the general issue of water management in Rajasthan. I cannot understand why the water tank of the Nagargarh fort is not even mentionned in the mainstream travel guides.
Neeraj is an incredible guide, I did this tour already in 2020 and again just now, the tour keeps evolving, with new aspects to discover, and always interesting! This is a great visit to do if you want to discover a bit more deeply the rajasthani culture and its relation to water. After all, Jaipur is a city built at the border of a desert! Warmly recommended
Neeraj is an enthusiastic and informative guide and his passion for the subject is evidence. Highly recommend this for a deeper understanding of Rajasthans fascinating history.
It was an amazing and insightful experience where we learned a lot about Rajasthan and its rich culture.
Deep dive into the promised topic with a charming and widely knowledgeable guide. The short hike and surroundings couldn't be more pleasant, the experience was a welcome change from the tiresome busyness of the city. Our only regret is not having the time to do more tours with this guide.
A fascinating tour with great passion for the skills from 300 years ago. The importance of water to Rajasthan and how it was collected with engineering precision into beautiful reservoirs is amazing and was explained wonderfully. Highly recommended If you want to truly understand the local history.
Neeraj, our guide, brings an amazing wealth of knowledge about the area and the city which made the tour engaging and informative.
This has been one of the best guided heritage walk I have ever done. I am a heritage walk enthusiast and try to do one, if available in every place I go to, and this has been one of the best of all. Neeraj's way of taking you through the history of the place and his knowledge of the technicality of the water planning makes the place come to life for you. He is friendly, knowledgeable and easy to relate to. Definitely recommended!
Incredible story telling and a very knowledgable partner in Neeraj. The walk is not intense and Neeraj is sensitive to the needs of the group. It made for a great family adventure in the afternoon. Learnt a lot and recommend it highly
The guide, Neeraj, was absolutely fantastic! He was incredibly engaging, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I truly could not recommend the tour more highly. I learnt so much about the culture, relationship to water, and history of Rajasthan. If you/anyone you know is visiting Jaipur, this is an absolute must do.
Fabulous storytelling, amazing research and wonderful connections between water, architecture, and culture. My family and I have been to Jaipur many times - but this was a novel experience. Have decided to make one of their walks a feature of all our future trips.
Neeraj was super knowledgeable about the Fort and it's water system, and really made the Subject come to life. I took an afternoon tour and there were amazing views down to the City as the sun was beginning to set.
A simply unforgettable experience. Neeraj is simply superb. He uncovered the sheer brilliance and complexity of the systems that the Nahargarh fort used to collect, store and use water.
It was an amazing experience that weaved the physics of ancient canal systems with history, culture, traditions and wonderful stories. Must do on a trip to Jaipur.
We took a 2 hour Nahargarh water walk tour. It was excellent - we saw many water structures and learned about how they were used in the ancient days. Also got to learn a lot about the culture of Rajasthan. Neeraj, our tour guide was great - very friendly and knowledgeable. He spoke English, Hindi and Marwari fluently. Highly recommended!

I donβt usually sign up for guided tours but this one is just fantastic. You will learn a great deal about the historic water infrastructure of Jaipur and why it matters so much to understand it. How a great city got its water is a puzzle hiding in plain sight. This water walk puts the puzzle pieces together in a way you will not forget. Itβs a fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Neeraj is an expert storyteller and really draws you in with his anecdotes and quotes as he walks you through the journey of water and water management at Nahargarh. He is super intentional with the planning and the way in which he takes you through the whole experience. One of my absolute favorite parts was that he uses visual aids so itβs easier to build a picture of how these systems were built and used. The experience in 100% worth every penny! Also heβll take some great pictures! Haha
We did 2 tours with Neeraj. Both Ramgarh and Nahargarh. We were in double mind considering April heat and having our 8yr old daughter. However it was totally worth it. We started early by 645 for both the tours. Must say that the knowledge gathered by Neeraj for his tours is totally commendable. Displays his passion. It was completely different and off track of what you would otherwise expect from a βguideβ. Extremely knowledgable and amazing insights. He also made it interesting with some unknown traditional facts about the state and short stories. Really appreciate the hard work that would have gone behind in designing such off beat tours. Itβs a must for every Indian and totally worth the time for all foreigners coming to tour Rajasthan. Looking forward to more such curated tours from Neeraj so that we can take one whenever we visit Jaipur. Obviously keenly waiting to do Amer in the next visit. Thank you for a wonderful experience and back to back tours.
This was easily the highlight of an already memorable trip to Jaipur. Neeraj is incredibly knowledgeable and showcases the history of Nahargarh, Jaipur and Rajasthan through an extremely unique lens. One of the best heritage walks I've attended, and my only regret is not having enough time to do the other forts and his new Jaipur old fort
Walking in a small group with Neeraj, exploring the 'Now-hidden-from-eyes' phenomenal water management system of Nahargarh Fort was a most memorable experience. Neeraj's inimitable style of making connections between culture, technology, climate and history made two hours just fly by in a blink. Hoping to join him for more of such wonderful walks. Thanks Neeraj and wish you the very best!
We had a fantastic tour of the water systems of Nahargarh Fort. It was a totally unique look into how the underlying foundations of the fort and the civilization functioned thanks to ingenious systems of capturing, diverting and storing water. Neeraj was a wonderful guide, and we got to see some of the lands around the fort by foot. I've been on a lot of tours around the world, and this was a thoroughly one-of-a-kind experience. We also heard some interesting stories on how water, or rather lack of it, has shaped the state of Rajasthan and its cultures and traditions. Overall, highly recommend.
Neeraj's approach towards explaining the water system with different anecdotes was very interesting. Loved the whole walk, specially the spiral system.
It was a great trip ..we had access to the unseen parts of amber β¦a must trip for those interested in history !would strongly recommend it!
it was a walk full of joy and insights about the fort and water storage. i loved how smartly it was executed and shared with us. definitely must tour if you are in Jaipur. the walk wasnβt tiring, it was planned with plenty of stops and even time for pictures z
It is such a pleasure and asset to history and tourism when someone knowledgeable and articulate decides to turn their passion into a profession! This tour is the best way to see and understand the architecture of the region and how and why water supply was fundamental to the history of Rajasthan and guides the way it was built and developed. The feats of early engineers are chronicled through the guide's extensive knowledge, anecdotes, and humour. Really worth doing this tour!
This was an absolutely unique and truly amazing tour. We have travelled to a lot of countries and usually tours don't leave us thinking and contemplative like this one did. This is not a run-of-the-mill touristy experience but for those who truly want learn about the history of Rajasthan and specially the role water played in it. Neeraj is a very understanding and informative guide and his passion for Rajasthani culture and its deep ties to water shine through. All power to him in his quest to bring this depth of knowledge to the world. Please do not miss this if you are in Jaipur and support his endeavor. A very different yet memorable way of experiencing this great city.
It was a really interesting tour, not only was it extremely informative, it was very interactive and fun. We got to explore the place with a new lens, and time flew by like nothing. It was short trip and was easy to squeeze in even on a busy day! Definitely recommend this to anyone who is in Jaipur and wants to learn the history of Rajasthan!
In depth details of the water systems with live video to support. Great experience and a must do do things on Jaipur
I belong to Jaipur but haven't really had the chance to explore beyond the usual cursory trips to Nahargadh and Amer... At the heritage water walk Neeraj helped me and my sister see a whole new side to the fort, peeling back slowly and bringing to life how the architects of the city thought about one commodity- water that would make it break a successful settlement. We walked through the old water channels around the fort and connected back with the beautiful stepwells, looking at how the more than three hundred year old water engineering still works pretty well - built to survive man, war and nature's wear and tear. Even though we belong to Rajasthan we had never connected the dots of how much of our culture and traditions revolve around water... all in all this was an incredible experience and a perfect way for me start my Birthday morning. The walk is pretty easy for most fitness levels and is done throughout the day, although we preferred the mounting tour. A must do if you are in Jaipur!!
Interesting and informative - this tour opened my eyes to a hitherto unknown aspect of rajasthani life - the significance of water ! This tour was picturesque, the right mix of educational with bonus points for the passion and good humour of Neeraj. Highly recommended.
We had an excellent time during heritage water walk. It was insightful to see how the culture of Rajasthan revolves around the water. Rajasthani Dohas and anecdotes from guide made it really interesting and fun. Overall It gives glimpse of India's rich cultural heritage and how sustainable development can be achieved.
An insightful introduction to creating life around water and water around life, the walk, like the people and history of Jaipur, is both scientific and poetic at the same time.
I have done a lot of heritage walks, but the Nahargarh Water Walk during my stay in Jaipur was undoubtedly one of the most interesting of them all. Peppered with stories and discoveries, Neeraj Doshi revealed a centuries old world of impeccable rain water harvesting which still functioned flawlessly to date. His passion and commitment to the topic made every minute of the walk through the forest, water catchment areas, channels and stepwells a feast to both the mind and the explorer in me. If there is one walk one should do when in Jaipur, it ought to be this one. It's an absolute gem!
The walk with Neeraj was very informative while also being fun and not at all tiring! His knowledge and passion for the city and its history is very evident from his conversation. The story he has weaved with history, mythology and poetry in explaining the importance of water for the city, keeps you captivated! The walk was one of our favourite experiences in Jaipur! Must try for anyone visiting!
A must for both tourists and locals who want to know how the deserts of Rajasthan gave rise to a βwater stateβ. As Neeraj will tell you, water percolates through every aspect of Rajasthani life, including its mythology, science, art, and culture. The tour (literally) takes you off the beaten path, through Mughal aqueducts, canals, and a stepwell. Neeraj is a masterful storyteller and a superb expositor of medieval engineering; I can't recommend the tour enough. Tip: Swap the shorts for full pants. Although on smooth ground, the tour takes you along paths less travelled, which means there's a fair bit of shrubbery around.
The research and effort put in by Neeraj to showcase/reveal the art and science of the water collection system designed by the erstwhile Maharaj Jaisingh II for Nahargarh Fort is awesome. This is a unique experience offered by no one else. To add to it, he has a bagful of tales and anecdotes and family experiences to share and relate about water, rain, clouds, epics, epochs, village culture, poetry, rich heritage of Rajasthan and itβs people which takes the experience of the walk to another level altogether. A must do for everyone.
The concept of the tour that Neeraj has designed is absolutely amazing. He has centered the tour around water, and that allows for a very rich exploration of the entire area. Over the course of the tour, we get to see the different architectural and design decisions that were made because of it. How the different parts of the fort collect water and how it is channeled. He also dives deeply into the importance of water in Rajasthani culture, which ties in very neatly to the things that we have been observing over the course of the walk. Nahargarh is a gorgeous area, with fantastic views on all sides. The walk lasts for about one and half hours, and is very well paced, as we see areas that maybe all visitors don't get to see. Neeraj is a fantastic guide and he knows a lot about all of the material that he discusses. Definitely would recommend this for all.
