Private Istanbul Layover Tour From Airport

We had a wonderful morning tour with Merve as our guide. Pace was excellent and sure she could have adjusted either way. She seemed to truly enjoy sharing interesting historical and cultural information. She was a direct referral to us from friends and understandably so.

Unfortunately, although the tour itself was generally pleasant, we left extremely disappointed with the overall experience and strongly believe that what we received did not justify the price we paid. As first-time visitors to Istanbul, we were not familiar with the city or the distances between the main attractions. The inclusion of a private car was therefore an important factor in our decision to book this particular tour, and we reasonably assumed that private transportation would be necessary throughout the itinerary and was a significant part of what justified the very high price compared with other tours. Once there, we discovered that essentially all of the attractions included in the tour are within walking distance of one another. In practice, the private transportation was only used for the transfers to and from the airport. Had we understood this beforehand, we would never have paid such a substantial premium. Comparable walking tours cost a fraction of the price, and airport transportation could easily have been arranged separately at a much lower cost. We therefore feel that the value of the tour was not at all consistent with the price charged. However, the most serious issue was our experience at the Grand Bazaar. Throughout the tour, we occasionally asked our guide for advice regarding prices before purchasing something, and she was generally willing to help. At Ramazan Canbaz Lokumları, however, her behavior was noticeably different. She did not want to enter the store with us. Immediately before paying, we specifically asked her whether the price was reasonable, and instead of helping us as she had elsewhere, she told us to trust the shop and simply pay by card. Afterward, when we saw the final amount charged to our credit card, we realized that we had been scammed and charged an outrageous amount. We then researched the store and were shocked to find numerous reviews from other tourists describing what appears to be the exact same scam: tourists being charged extremely inflated amounts, with multiple reviews also raising concerns about guides and tourist referrals to this particular shop. We cannot prove that our guide had any relationship with the store, and we will not claim something we cannot substantiate. However, it is extremely concerning that a professional local guide would specifically tell her clients to “trust them” and pay at a shop with this kind of reputation—particularly when we explicitly asked for her help before completing the transaction. This completely destroyed our trust in the experience. We deliberately booked through a reputable platform and paid a significant premium because, as tourists unfamiliar with Istanbul, we expected a vetted, professional and trustworthy experience. Instead, we paid an extremely high price for what was essentially a walking tour, and during that same tour we ended up being scammed at a store after following our guide’s advice. For a tour at this price point, this is simply unacceptable. The guide was otherwise pleasant and the sightseeing portion itself was fine, but that does not compensate for what happened. We are extremely disappointed with the experience and strongly believe that a refund is warranted. At the very least, we hope the platform seriously investigates both this tour and its connection, if any, with this particular shop so that other travelers do not have the same experience.

Tarik was an excellent guide. His knowledge of Istanbul and the history behind this city is amazing. He truly loves what he does. We were a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children under 13. He was patient and understanding. He understood our needs with our young kids and adjusted the tour accordingly. Tarik gave us great advice about safety and places to visit or be careful of. At the end he guided us to a safe taxi ride area, put us in and made sure the driver knew where to take us. It finished the day off comfortably. Thank you Tarik for your informative tour, your gentle and kind nature and for making sure we would get back to our hotel safely. We had an awesome day. The kids got in the taxi and said, "That was fun, and I'd do it again". Well.... I think that's a great review in itself. We'll be back..... until next time.... Take care Tarik.

The tour was packed with information and was educational in a great way. Our guide Tarik was very friendly and accommodating to what we wanted to see and do. He helped guide us through the different landmarks and attractions and gave us an in depth history of everything we saw. He also took us to a great restaurant for dinner. We would highly recommend this tour with Tarik!

Hilal was absolutely the best guide and the company made everything easy for us. Van was spacious and spotless and Hilal was attentive to what we were interested in and took us to sights we didn’t even know about. 10/10 would recommend. She went above and beyond!!

We really enjoyed our tour of Istanbul. Kemal was excellent. We had a late arrival and it was rainy and it was cold. Kemal put together a great itinerary and by the end of the tour we had over 10k steps. His knowledge of historical facts and location specific information was very valuable. We learned a lot. We were picked up right at the airport exit. The van was clean and spacious. We kept our items in the van during stops with no issues. The driver was great too. We would definitely use this tour operator again. Note: it is about an hour drive to and from the airport so that may decrease your time on tour.

Great tour and service while being super flexible for our schedule. Was going to be shorter because of inbound flight delay and then ended up being longer due to outbound delay. We fit a lot in and learned a lot. Thx Ozzie!

We had a fantastic layover tour of Istanbul old town with my 8 year old daughter. We were all a bit tired, the weather was not great, but Ozan really helped us keep our energy up so we could make the most of our short time in the city! He was super helpful by text message before the tour, a huge plus when traveling internationally and not wanting to worry, and a ton of fun to hang out with. Definitely recommend!

What a fantastic layover tour of Istanbul! Communication with the tour company was flawless from beginning to end. They made sure that we found them easily at the airport and took care of our transportation to and from dinner and back to the airport. Our guide Dilek was an absolute delight. She quickly got us through all of the main highlights in the old city with the limited time we had for the tour. She was extremely knowledgeable and was a pleasure to talk to and spend the day with. We had high expectations based on the reviews, but even these were exceeded.

Our guide was experienced and full of facts about the city. We covered all the big sites in a very short time.

This trip is a must. We were only in Istanbul for 22 hours and this tour allowed us to see many of the highlights! Ozlem, our incredible guide, was so knowledgeable and congenial. She was able to explain many of the important details, as well as historical and little known facts. We preferred to spend the extra money for the driver, but a walking tour only is also an option. The driver allowed us to learn more in the transitional times, and allowed a brief rest due to our jet lag.

Our guide (Gurkan) was on time to meet us, knowledgeable, friendly, and interesting. He listened to our needs and got us back on time. A great tour of Istanbul on our long layover.

Great tour for a quick 18-hour layover. Saw a surprising amount of sights for such a short time. At last I made it to the Hagia Sohia! Spectacular! Our guide, Ozun, was absolutely terrific. Very personable and friendly. Kept the tour moving and knew how to time things to avoid the crowds. Took us to a perfect lunch spot to sample a bunch of Turkish dishes. He knew his stuff and even modified the tour on the fly so we could visit a rug shop. We had a really good time with him and enjoyed both his company and expertise. Airport pick-up and drop-off made it totally simple. We really felt like we got a much better taste of Istanbul than we had any right to expect given our short stay. Highly recommended.

Kemal was top. The guide fulfilled all our wishes. Unfortunatelly we didn't have much time to see more, but have seen the basic of the city.

Turkey was my 50th country I had been to and beyond all the tours I have done in my past this tour was absolutely incredible especially for the time given. Our tour guide, Ozan, was incredibly knowledge and exciting to be around as we walked through Istanbul. Although we were there for less than 24 hours, this tour and our tour guide truly made every part worth it and I will even consider doing this exact tour with new family members when I come back due to the ease of pickup and return back to the airport.

We had an incredible experience with our driver and our tour guide Tolga. First I want to make mention that there was a miscommunication that is ultimately my fault but the tour completely rectified. Our flight landed at 5 am so my wife and I decided to schedule our tour to start at 9 am. We had a 21 hour lay over and wanted as much of the daylight to be spent on the walking tour in the city. In the original email we set up 9 am, however in subsequent communication the tour operator kept making mention that they would “track our flight.” To me this meant that they were just making sure we weren’t really late but they meant that they expected to pick us up at 5 am. As I was arriving in a new city I didn’t have my phone connected to any network until right before 830 (when we decided to make our way to the meeting point.) Sure enough they were waiting for me and we were almost 4 hours late. We felt TERRIBLE, but they quickly assured us it was fine and sorted through all the details to get us up and running. Tolga was a fantastic tour guide. Personable and knowledgeable. He showed us through all the major sights and helped us skip the lines. (GUIDES can jump the cue for tickets and entry at many attractions.) We had a fantastic time and can say enough good things about Tolga. We look forward to returning with a little more time to further explore this beautiful city!

We booked a last minute afternoon tour during our layover in Istanbul. Guided Istanbul Tours were very accommodating. Our tour guide Ulku was amazing! She was super friendly and knowledgeable about the history and culture of this beautiful city. She made sure to take us to all the must see sites within the time allotted. Due to her diligence we were able to experience beautiful sites and delicious Turkish cuisine and wine! Definitely want to come again and have Ulku help us explore more of what Istanbul has to offer!

Went for 2 day extended layover. Hasan met us at the airport right on time and took us to all of the wonderful places Istanbul has to offer along with some special off the beaten path stops. He was flexible and we changed things up a little when the kids got tired of the historical sites and we took a break and went on a beautiful river cruise. Hasan was great with the whole family and very knowledgeable about history and all of the sites. I would highly recommend a tour with him!

The layover tour was excellent. Transportation was in a comfortable large van (I was offered to take luggage with me if I wanted). Pick-up and drop off at desired times. Ozgur is an excellent guide, from getting in touch before the tour, to adjusting the pace according to your time. He knows which locations are best enjoyable (the Blue Mosques, for example, is being renovated and you can't really see anything of the interior). He warns about turist traps. He is both knowledgeable about the town's history and a pleasant and polite conversation partner.

we were met at the hotel and travelled to all the sites in the old town. A good itenary and a very knowledgable and fun guide. Having a guide helped us skip the queues (very helpful) as well as really learn about the history, culture and people of Turkey. it was full on and we learnt and saw a lot.

The tour was very informative and the our tour guide Emre was great! He made the tour very interesting and gave us our time to eat and even came shopping with us 😄 I will definitely be recommending him to friends and family and hope to do another tour with him!!

We had a 24 hour layover in Istanbul, and wanted to make the best of it. We were staying in old Istanbul, so we booked a private walking tour with Guided Istanbul Tours. They also provided private transportation to and from our hotel, which was really wonderful. Transportation was easy. We were met in the airport when we arrived, and driven to our hotel. When the tour was over, a driver met us and took us back to the airport. It couldn't have been easier. The tour itself was great. Our guide, Sercan Kurt, met us in the lobby. We walked to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, while Sercan gave us lots of good information on both. We toured both and Sercan took great pictures. During the tour, he was very informative, and really engaged our 2 teen sons (not easy to do). After this stop, we headed to the Grand Bazaar, and Sercan helped us shop for some good souvenirs (without getting ripped off!) In summary, even though this was a layover it ended up being a highlight of our trip. I highly recommend this company.

Our guide was Albert. High recomendation. Good spanish. He help us every time and answer all our questions. He help us buying souvenirs and when we arrived at apartment we rented with the owner. Thank you so much Albert!

We learned a lot during our one-day highlights visit with Unal. As we had already toured the city on our own, we were starving for a history top-up and Unal was just the perfect guide. We recommend highly his services plus a very good organisation from the booking stage

Earlier this month I went to Istanbul for business. My meetings were on Monday & Tuesday and was going back home early Wednesday. If I didn't see the city on Sunday I would have left without any memories. I found Guided Istanbul Tours from Trip Advisor and the reviews were amazing. I arranged for tour to start at the Airport upon arrival. That is where I met my guide Caner who right on time and exactly where he said he would be. I had never been been to Turkey before but Caner was great and explained everything very clearly. I learned a lot in the hours we spent and was pleased that most of the day was spent walking which is the best way to get a feel of the city. The only thing I was not able to see was the Bazaar which is closed on Sundays. Every aspect of the tour was top notch and our driver was very courteous and drove safely. It was a day well spent and Caner was an expect at taking pictures and have many to show my family and friends of the great sights and me all over the city. Having a beautiful clear day was the icing on the cake. I would surely recommend Guided Istanbul Tours and my guide Caner.

Mustafa, our top-tier private tour guide, met us at Cafe Nero in the Istanbul airport and immediately, all went well throughout our 23-hour layover. Mustafa is energetic, knows how to begin at the beginning, and then unfold this exotic, stunning city to help you see what you are looking at and feel at oriented and home by the time you leave. The van was spacious, driver was expert, and with both our driver and Mustafa, it became our personal "flying carpet" as we came to understand the modern-day city, the historic center including all of the top sites and connecting streets and alleyways. For our next trip to Europe, we plan to take Turkish Air just to have another... and another... 23-hour stopover with Mustafa who said he would suggest 3-5 days to see all that he really wanted to show us. We will do just that, a day at a time.

I had a very long layover in Istanbul and had never been to Turkey. Booking the tour was super easy and the logistics could not have been smoother. My excellent guide, Mustafa, could not have provided a better experience. He planned the entire day such that we avoided the crowds while getting to see all the major attractions (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Palaces, underground cisterns, etc). Mustafa is incredibly knowledgeable and, just as importantly, a lovely person to spend the day with. I never felt rushed or stressed but we covered a LOT of ground. Would absolutely recommend.

We have just returned from a layover tour in Istanbul. The four of us (2 couples) were on our way home from our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations in the Seychelles and we decided to book a layover tour of Istanbul. Our layover was short....we landed at 6:00am and our flight to the US was at 1:55 pm. Guided Istanbul Tours assured us they would be able to work a tour for us. Yes, they did! Mustafa and the driver picked us up promptly at 8:00 am (he was actually a few minutes early) and off we went... We visited the Blue Mosque and the surrounding areas. We also wanted to do some rug shopping and he had a place for us. We found some great rugs. Afterwards, we went to the Grand Bazaar and the surrounding area for a bit of sightseeing and shopping. Mustafa had tons of information and history to share with us regarding Istanbul. He answered all of our questions (one person in our party is a history buff of sorts). He also was very mindful of getting us back to the airport in plenty of time for our flight back. In short, Guided Istanbul Tours did a great job with our short timeframe. We did not fit into a typical tour regarding what we wanted to do and we had specific requests (rug shopping and no museums), so they planned a tour with exactly what WE wanted to do in our short time in Istanbul. They were very easy to work with and gave us very specific information regarding pick up, payment, etc, which made everything easy. Mustafa was also a great guide, who obviously enjoys what he does. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND both Guided Istanbul Tours AND Mustafa!!! Book your tour, you will be glad you did! (Be sure to book Mustafa if you can get him!)

We had a great time on our layover tour. We stopped in Istanbul for approximately 7 hours on our way home for our honeymoon. We got stuck in customs for an hour and our tour guide was still waiting for us fresh and pleasant at the agreed meeting point. He was very knowledgeable about the city and easily made plans to rearrange the day as needed due to time. It felt more like we were being shown around the city by a (extremely knowledgeable) friend than a paid tour! My friends back home did not believe I had only spent about 4 hours in the city. Our guide made sure we saw a bit of the old town and the new. In our very short tour, we got to visit the Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sophia, the entrance to the palace where they serve free beverages, Taksm square, walk down Istaqlal street, and have lunch at a local restaurant. He also knew all the best spots for photos and took a lot of pictures of us with our cameras. Certified guides in Istanbul are allowed to take their visitors to skip the lines so our price was worth that alone! Our driver was also very friendly and though he didn't speak much English, always made sure we had water, and also got us snacks before our flight home.

We saw so much more in a short amount of time than we ever would have been able to on our own, and Mustafa had very interesting stories to share about everything we saw. The lines at all of the major sites were really long and we would have been waiting for hours, but going with a tour guide allows you to skip the lines and just enjoy the attractions.</p>

Our family stay in Istanbul in October 2025 was an absolutely exceptional experience, largely thanks to our guide ZAFER, who was simply remarkable. We had a very busy schedule and very little time on site, as we had to strictly adhere to our flight schedule. We asked him to show us as many must-see sites and places as possible in record time. Mission accomplished, and well beyond our expectations! Thanks to his perfect organization, efficiency, and extensive knowledge of the city, we were able to visit a tremendous number of places without ever feeling rushed or stressed. Everything went smoothly and pleasantly. His French is impeccable, which made the exchanges particularly easy and enriching. He is an extremely friendly, warm, cultured person who is passionate about the history and culture of Istanbul. Each of his explanations was captivating and full of interesting anecdotes. This day will remain one of the most beautiful memories of our trip. We wholeheartedly recommend this guide to anyone wishing to discover Istanbul in the best possible conditions.

Better than staying in the airport, but too quick considering the time between the airport and downtown.

We had a day of layover in Istanbul coming from Egypt which gave us the chance to have time for a guided visit. Excellent experience from when we landed and went pick us up until they left us at the hotel. Our guide Emre very attentive and always careful in adapting to our pace given that we had travelled early in the morning , having a child of 9 years and giving us space to rest and not go running. No doubt advice.

We did a wonderful private tour for 3 days in Istanbul with the guide HATICE KELEK, who speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish and Turkish. She was extremely attentive, pleasant and helpful, took us to the main sights of the city and other amazing places less touristic, always explaining the history and culture! He also took us to the traditional cafes of the city (presenting typical Turkish drinks and food), gave various gastronomic tips and for excellent shopping and helped us at all times. I highly recommend!!

We were in Istanbul from 15 to 17 August where we could have the help of the exceptional guide Alper Attick. We made a private tour with this excellent guide. It was a great experience. The guide speaks very well Portuguese, this made it even easier for us to understand. He helped us to know more and better about life and the interesting places of Istanbul. He was noted 10 with all his knowledge to explain to us every wonderful place we had the opportunity to know. Our walk (from my wife and mine) became much more enjoyable with the help of Alter.
