The House of the Virgin Mary, near Ephesus, is a deeply revered Christian pilgrimage site, believed to be where the Virgin Mary spent her final days and was assumed into heaven. According to tradition, Apostle John brought Mary to Ephesus after the Resurrection of Christ, seeking a safe haven following the martyrdom of James and other apostles. Built on the foundation of her home, the church’s authenticity has been affirmed by visits from three popes: Pope Paul VI (1967), Pope John Paul II (1979), and Pope Benedict XVI (2006). Their gifts to the shrine, now displayed as symbols of its sacred significance, underscore its historical and spiritual importance. This serene site continues to inspire faith and devotion, offering visitors a profound connection to Christian history and the life of the Virgin Mary. It remains a must-visit destination for pilgrims and history enthusiasts alike.
Nestled in the hills just 12 km from Ephesus and 30 km from Kuşadası, Şirince Village is a delightful blend of history, tradition, and natural beauty. Once called "Çirkince" ("ugly") by its residents to deter outsiders from discovering its charm, the village eventually revealed its true beauty, earning the name Şirince ("pretty"). Located atop a mountain, Şirince offers breathtaking views of vineyards and peach orchards along the way. Renowned for its well-preserved Greek-style houses, cobblestone streets, and locally produced fruit wines, the village provides a serene escape and a taste of authentic Turkish culture. A visit to Şirince is an opportunity to experience its rich heritage, picturesque surroundings, and unique charm that captivates travelers from around the world.
Ephesus, one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities, offers an extraordinary glimpse into history. Dating back to the Greek and Roman periods, its ancient streets, still marked by chariot wheels, connect visitors to its vibrant past. Marvel at the Great Theater, a colossal structure seating over 20,000, where gladiatorial battles once entertained crowds. Visit the Public Agora, where St. Paul preached, and discover its role as a bustling trade hub for Anatolian handicrafts, celebrated for their exceptional quality. Stroll along Marble Street to the iconic Celsus Library, the ancient world’s third-largest library, renowned for its beautifully restored façade. Explore other landmarks such as the Temple of Hadrian, the Trajan Fountain, the Domitian Temple, one of the first temples dedicated to a human, and the Odeon, a venue for musical performances. Ephesus reflects the grandeur, innovation, and cultural richness of ancient civilizations, making it a must-visit destination in Turkey.
The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a magnificent tribute to Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt and moon. Constructed around 650 BC on a site sacred to Cybele, the Anatolian Mother Goddess, the temple was funded by the King of Lydia and ingeniously built on marshy ground to withstand earthquakes. This iconic site also bore witness to dramatic historical events, such as the murder of Arsinoe IV, Cleopatra’s sister, in 41 BC under Mark Antony’s orders. Although only a few columns and ruins remain today, the Temple of Artemis continues to captivate visitors with its storied past and architectural significance, rivaling the grandeur of the Parthenon.

A great tour that gives you a great insight into the House of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis, along with visiting the attractions and learning about the history of Ephesus, and much more besides. Our guide was very interesting and very knowledgeable. Super nice experience with a lot of historical information!
It was a great morning exploring the ancient city of Ephesus. Our tour guide was very informative and took us to all the nooks and crannies! We bypassed the crowds to access the monuments, which was a nice touch! Really appreciated his time, and we loved it.
We had an awesome experience visiting multiple sites around Ephesus. Our guide was absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable. He knew all the best spots for the best photos, and, better yet, was an absolute master photographer, so we got plenty of amazing photos together. He also showed us a nice place to eat for lunch. I can really recommend that tour!
The organization, transport, and information provided by the guide are excellent. and made the whole day very enjoyable, and gave us lots of background and history on each location. Well worth your dollar investment and time.
Bilal was very flexible, knowledgeable, and very funny. His depth of knowledge was great, and he had a beautiful warmth. A very interesting tour, thoroughly recommended!!!
Our guide was so informative and really passionate about his job. We met at the meeting point, which was easy to find. He even sent us a list of restaurant recommendations, which turned out to be the best places we ate!
This turned out to be one of my favourite experiences in Turkey, thanks to our excellent guide, Utku. Utku made the tour fun and gave us the best experience imaginable. The directions to the meeting place were clear and precise.
We had a beautiful day in Ephesus, and Umut was very friendly, very informative, and very helpful, making the tour very fun! Thank you Umut (our guide) for a great experience. Highly recommend.

Cetin was our guide, and he was amazing, so informative, personable, and attentive to any of our needs.
Our guide in Ephesus, Utku, was a very reliable and courteous person who was knowledgeable and proud of his city and country. Overall, the experience was very nice. They believe in customer service and orientation... Thanks a lot. You people are so reliable and trustworthy!
Our tour guide, Mr Umut, was very friendly, professional, fun, knowledgeable and very patient in accommodating our changing demands during the entire 4-hour+. Thank you to everyone for our marvellous tour. I would not hesitate to recommend them!!!
Easy to book, with great communication. Loved the amazing driver and local guide. Exceeded all expectations! I will forever recommend them.
Joining the Private Ephesus tour with a great tour guide. It was one of the best ideas. Our guide, Umut, was absolutely fantastic, enthusiastic, and had a wealth of knowledge. The tour was the perfect length and covered all of the areas I had expected to see. He had an amazing storehouse of knowledge of history and kept us fascinated for the full four hours of the tour. There is no better way to see Ephesus than to have an expert guide you through. Would recommend this tour to anyone planning a visit to Turkey. I would highly recommend this tour; it went off without a hitch for us and was worth every second. Thanks for a great tour and a great experience.
My family took the small group tour of Ephesus. Our tour guide was a very informative and pleasant person. You can tell he takes his job seriously. We learned a lot and saw some great places, and he went out of his way to show us extra little things that he loves about his hometown.
Overall the tour was so fun and fast at the same time Yesra our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly through out the tour even though it was raining. Highly recommended.
Yesra is our tour guide for the day and she is friendly, knowledgeable and patient. She waited for us patiently at the airport as our flight got delayed, due to rainy weather. Highly recommend! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This was an amazing opportunity for which we are so grateful we had. Our tour guide, Bill, was very organized and ver knowledgeable about the history of Turkey. He listened to our questions and needs and made sure they were fulfilled, from going to the ruins, to learning more about silk rugs, to pottery, food and herbs. This was truly an enriching day and thank Bill for making it happen!
This tour to Ephesus was an amazing experience. The tour company planned it all!! My husband and I had nothing to worry about. The company took care of our airport transfers, plane tickets, and even lunch. Communication was clear and all via WhatsApp, which was great. Our tour guide, Ibrahim, was fantastic. His knowledge of the culture and history of the area is admirable. He made us feel welcomed from the moment we met him. He answered all of our questions. We had enough time to enjoy every place we visited. We have experienced tours in which everything is rushed, but not this experience. This tour was laid back and enjoyable, with enough time to explore the House of Mary, Ephesus, a cute village…the food. It was a wonderful day!!
The trip was so well orchestrated- from the transportation from our Airbnb to the airport to our driver and tour guide - it was both historically informative and gave enough time to make stops and see everything we wanted throughout the day. The highlights were Mary’s house and the tour through the Ephesus ruins- both with entrance fees but well worth it- would recommend a hat. Would highly recommend!
Bilal was an excellent guide. We leaned so much about what makes the Turkish people so friendly and accepting. The history of Turkey goes back over 3,000 years ago and to see relics all over Ephesus was amazing. As an educator, I was especially pleased to see a public carpet weaving school where women are taught the trade of weaving and then given a loom to take home and make carpets they can sell at the school to help out the school and these women. The food served for lunch at this school was a great experience in Turkish food. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Ibrahim was also my guide for 2 days in Pergamon-Asklepion and in Pamukkale-Hierapolis and he didn't disappoint. When the agency told me I will have a knowledgeable guide, he was right. Not only really knowledgeable, Ibrahim made sure the information is apt and appropriate to the guest with lots of stories in between, both fiction and historical. He knows his craft so much that the information is shared to me even on the road since the destinations are quite a distance from each other. I would recommend a detailed tour especially for those who are studying the Bible to have a tour with him to understand the significance of the place deeper and to understand and appreciate the Bible more. His stories and information on the whole of the ancient Ephesus helped the place come alive that you really want to travel back in time to see how those things in the past happened. Ibrahim is able to answer questions and he is all the more encouraging me to ask more questions and he'd be ready to share an answer.
Very well organised tour. Our guide was umut and he knew many things about history. The flights and transfers was on time
My husband and I are history buffs and wanted to make sure we were able to see the ancient city of Ephesus during our week-long stay in Istanbul. Firstly, this day trip was impeccably planned from a logistics point of view. About 3 days before our day trip, trip organizer Umut messaged me letting me know he would send me flight info and tour guide info the day before our trip. Ephesus is only a 1-hour flight from Istanbul (some of the bus tours take 6 or more hours to get to Ephesus from Istanbul) and so this is the best way to do the day trip from a logistics perspective. The day before our, Umut sent us our local guide's contact information, airport transfer pickup/drop off details and also assisted us with checking into our flight. The driver was at our hotel right on time at 6am to take us to the airport and our flight was seamless, with our local guide in Istanbul, Necdet, waiting for us in the arrival terminal at Izmir Airport. Necdet was very friendly, humorous and knowledgable about the ancient city of Ephesus and also the historic site of the Virgin Mary's house. In total we toured the historic sites for about 3 hours and then had lunch with Necdet at a local co-op (serving traditional mezes and kebabs), next to a carpet weaving center where we received a demonstration of how Turkish carpet making has historically been done. Necdet and our driver, Yavuz, were very accommodating whenever we wanted to stop for a coffee, to purchase souvenirs or the like. We were dropped off on time at Izmir Airport and upon return to Istanbul Airport, Umut arranged for the greeter to meet us at the pickup point. All in all, a seamless day trip to a must-see, well-preserved, grand ancient city.
All the tour from the beginning untill the end was very well organised. The tour guide Umut is very gentile guy. We recommend this tour to everyone.
We started our tour around 6 am in the morning.all the transfers arranged very well. We met with our guide Umut in İzmir airport. He is really professional about his work. Gave us lots of information. Ephesus is really impressive City.
The tour was extremely well organized. I received updates from the minute I booked to my return to Istanbul. Mercedes van used was very comfortable and had four USB plugs so I was able to charge my cell. I was the only participant and my guide patiently answered my many questions and beyond. Highly recommend.
We booked a private tour of Ephesus – and what should we say: It was all around successful! We would like to highlight the driver and the guide: Both are not only professionally top, but also humanly great – likeable, humorous, open to desires and with an enormous knowledge of Ephesus. They complemented each other perfectly, responded to our paces, always had a casual saying and were always ready for photos – even active as photographers! The explanations were sound, exciting and entertaining, not boring for a second. You could just tell: Here are two with passion and joy in the matter. A big thank you – we would do this tour again at any time and can recommend it without restriction.
