We booked this tour for Hagia Sophia on Viator and were given a guide by the name of Tanju. We HIGHLY recommend this man. If you appreciate history, learning, and nice people this tour is for you. He called us prior to our scheduled tour time and said he had no one booked for the noon appointment and if we wanted to bump our time from 11 to noon, we could have him all to ourselves. So, we did that and we were able to ask lots of questions and have lots of conversations about history making the tour a lot more intimate. After our tour was over, he spent at least an hour of his own time helping us with recommendations for local handmade rugs. He even gave us recommendations about local coffee, sites, baklava, Turkish bath, and helped us with trains. We are so grateful for Tanju and his time. BOOK THIS TOUR!

This was a great tour, the guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We got lucky and the other individuals in our tour did not make it so it became a private tour. One of the reasons we chose this tour was for the limit on the number of individuals, as more people often means you can't hear the guide/see everything well. I highly recommend the early tour at 8:00 as the site was virtually empty and it could be seen and appreciated with ease.

We had a wonderful time at the Hagia Sofia with our guide, Tanju who explained very well the historical context of the cathedral/mosque. The mosque is now under renovation with a huge metal scaffolding in the centre, so photos on a wide scale are not great. However, the gold mosaics are impressive.

A private tour as it were since the others couldn’t make it to the earliest 9am slot. Tanju was affable, courteous and very helpful explaining to us the unique history of the city of Constantinople/Istanbul and its iconic cathedral/mosque (chosque?) in fluent English assisted by a multitude of pictures from his phone. He led us around inside not just pointing out the wonderful architectural features and beautiful grand mosaics but good spots for photos and kindly offered to take a few for us. Though rather marred by the chilly drizzly weather and the great edifice under repairs Tanju made it a successful and memorable visit for us to whom Hagia Sophia is synonymous with Istanbul.

Had a lovely tour with Tanju taking great care of us on our visit to the Hagia Sophia. Plenty of new information that we hadn’t found before, and the skip the line tickets were great with Tanju taking us past a very long queue. Would highly recommend booking a tour, if we’re ever back in Istanbul we will be doing so!

Tanju is an excellent tour guide. We had a fascinating tour of the Hagia Sophia. Went did the early tour which was great as there were very few people around. Went with my two teenage children and Tanju managed to convey a lot of information in an engaging manner. The Hagia Sophia is incredible but the tour helped to bring it to life. Highly recommended.
