Erol shared lots of information that was super interesting. He really knows a lot about the history of Istanbul. I was surprised to see how very multi cultural and multi ethnic it has sheets been. Erol has excellent English. He took us to all the places listed and we had plenty of time for relaxed conversation and questions. We especially liked the tower and the walls. Bravo!

Itinerary
Galata is a charming, historic neighborhood in Istanbul, nestled between Karaköy and Beyoğlu. Famous for its iconic Galata Tower, this area is a blend of old-world charm and modern vibes. Wander through its narrow, cobblestone streets lined with trendy cafes, boutique shops, and art galleries.. A perfect spot for history lovers, photographers, and those seeking a lively yet quaint atmosphere!
Elegant set of 19th-century art nouveau stairs en route to the Galata Tower, popular for photos.
Visit the Iron Church (Bulgarian St. Stephen Church): Marvel at this unique Orthodox church made entirely of cast iron, located near the Golden Horn.
Explore the Balat Market: Stop by the local markets to experience the vibrant atmosphere and shop for antiques, second-hand goods, and unique souvenirs.
Visit Balat: Walk to the neighboring Balat district, famous for its vibrant, pastel-colored houses and photogenic streets. Don’t miss the iconic Rainbow Stairs and Kiremit Street for great photo opportunities.
Explore the Jewish Heritage: The Ahrida Synagogue (if accessible) and learn about the Jewish community’s history in Balat.
Colorful streets of Fener and Balat await you. One could describe the combined neighborhoods of Ayvansaray, Balat, and Fener as a miniature chronicle of the Byzantine, Ottoman, and modern times. These streets have hosted the most influential of empires along with their monuments; housed a mosaic of communities.
Ecumenical Patriarchate is recognized as the spiritual center (basically the “Vatican”) of the Eastern Orthodox Christians.
The walls of Constantinople were the greatest fortifications of the medieval age. With various towers and gates, large sections still stand more or less intact today.
Finish your day with a stroll along the Golden Horn, enjoying the serene waterfront views.
Bascule bridge that spans the Golden Horn provides both a real and symbolic link between two important parts of Istanbul.

We highly recommend this tour with Erol! The tower was great with views over the city. Erol shared stories of the past and present day Istanbul. The tour of the Fener-Balat areas very interesting. Travelling with the locals great! Erol is a kind and considerate guide.
This was a fantastic way to discover the history, culture, and hidden corners of these beautiful neighborhoods. My guide, Gamze, was friendly, knowledgeable, and brought the area to life with fascinating stories and local insights. I especially enjoyed the colorful streets, historic buildings, lively cafés, and the sights and sounds of everyday Istanbul. The pace was comfortable, and I felt completely at ease exploring with such a great guide. It was a memorable experience and a wonderful way to see a different side of Istanbul.
Tolga is the man! Knowledgeable, friendly, and energetic. Bring your walking shoes- 3+ hours of beautiful buildings, stunning views, and a thousand cats. Don’t just visit the Blue Mosque + Hagia Sofia, add this in!
Excellent places and locations, get ready to walk
She took the tour at our pace. We had just landed that morning after a 11 hour flight, so it was so welcoming. It was very adaptable to what we were feeling or not feeling.
Erol our tour guides who study was everything one would want. Very knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and answered our questions. He even bought a couple bakery items for us to sample. Erol pointed out many interesting sights and presented lots of information about the surrounding areas.
There are terrific views from the top of Galata Tower! Seeing the Fener/Balat neighborhoods provided a different perspective of the city, away from the high tourist traffic areas. Our tour guide was phenomenal and very knowledgeable on the history of the city.
Despite the rain our guide Erol made this a really enjoyable experience. He is so knowledgeable, engaging and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Galata tower and surroundings (with many gorgeous photos) and then our journey to Balat and Fener. The churches are stunning and it was particularly beautiful to see the architecture, interior decor and many relics. The neighbourhoods of Balat and Fener are very charming with their colourful houses. We stopped for tea and cookies in a local cafe recommended by Erol. Erol was a super guide and I would highly recommend this tour.
Errol was an excellence guide and shared with us his great competence about Galata and Balat districts. Highly recommended guide 👌
Erol was an outstanding guide and we can’t remember a tour that has been this thorough, interesting & in depth. We learned a lot about the Turkish culture & customs but it would’ve been impossible to cover that much territory without his expertise guidance. It was the perfect way to spend our final day in Istanbul, but if you book it, be prepared to walk for most of the time and this one tour will be sufficient for the day!
What a great day experiencing all different parts of Istanbul, our guide fantastic. We went round different neighbourhoods, went to the Tower and many more things. I think our name was Erol and he was fantastic
We did the Multi Cultural Istanbul: Galata Tower - Fener and Balat - Golden Horn by Ferry with Eron U, he was knowledgeable detailed and a wonderful photographer
Erol was our tour guide. He was amazing. Very knowledgable in history and very professional. He took his time to show us unique details about architecture and political/historic relevance
Excellent introduction to some local neighborhoods. Views from Galata tower excellent. Our guide, Hüseyin was knowledgeable and friendly offering excellent commentary and insights. Walking the neighborhood and understanding it was formerly Jewish was interesting. Crossing the golden Horn on foot by bridge to the Fener-Balat area was fantastic. Stopping for tea at a local shop in a small street, seeing the oldest mosque in Istanbul (built by Arabs in 715 AD in Galata) and the Orthodox patriarchal church was fascinating. A quick bite at a local stop and the ferry ride topped off a delightful trip. Highly recommend
Erol is the best tour guide I've had in Istanbul! My fiance and I learned so much about the history of Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire, and also got some personal and current details about life in Istanbul that really helped us understand the culture. Balat is also probably my favorite neighborhood that we explored this time in Istanbul. Despite freezing weather and rain, Erol made the afternoon such a treat!
This tour is a must do experience for those looking to explore a the multi-cultural side of Istanbul. Our guide Erol was a literal treasure trove of fascinating stories about the history of the Christian / Jewish / european populations and the unique ways they interacted with the Turks after the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Make sure to try to borek at the bakery!
We did not use the skip the line, but we made the ticket directly on the spot because we went at lunchtime, since the Guide recommends going precisely at a less crowded time. We have only waited half an hour when you risk waiting even two. The place is impressive especially for the 360° panoramic view of Istanbul, the golden horn and the bosphorus. You go up in the elevator, you go down with stairs a bit 'quick and low ceiling but characteristic. From there by taxi we moved to the picturesque colorful street and colorful umbrella street. Mostly of the tourist places, the most characteristic thing is beautiful are the many cats
Tower with wonderful view with visit to be planned at sunset. The only recommendation is to pay attention to what a ticket office offers. They sell you unsolicited headphones x hear Audio Guide (not required). They show you the price in euros and charge you in Turkish lira with the above surcharge. For an official site I'd say it's a half-con against tourists
The tower dominates Istanbul, already stands in an elevated area and from its summit, easily accessible, you make 6 floors by elevator and the last 2 with comfortable stairs, offers a 360-degree view of the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles Strait various mighty mosques and all that beautiful Istanbul offers. Don't be scared by the queue is fast enough, I bought the skip the line ticket online.
