The Halich Hotel Istanbul Karakoy

We were placed in this hotel by VBRO when the house we rented on their website turned out to be a scam. The rooms were clean and well appointed albeit a bit old. The hotel was walking distance to almost everthing we wanted to see in the historic part of Istambul. Also located very close to a number of public transport lines and stations making it very easy to get around the city. The staff was very accomodating. Many in our group got food poisoning at a princess islands boat tour so many extra towels and extra toilet paper was needed. The staff was very helpful and understanding. The hotel is vey close to a waterfront area that is super popular with locals and tourists. The neighborhood is older and a bit industrial looking but safe with lots of cafes and foot traffic, a bit noisey at night. Nice view of the river and bridge. This is an old part of the city and not really appropriate for women or young solo travelers.

Great location. A few min. to Halic metro station. 10 min to ferry to Kadikoy. Nice rooftop breakfast room and restaurant. Friendly staff, clean rooms. Lift can be slow when busy. Laundry a bit expensive. Attentive staff and very friendly. Restaurants direct next to the hotel. Short walk up to bars or take metro 1 station. Wonderful rain shower. A/C can be set below 18 degrees which I like.

I’m actually torn between giving 5 stars and a lower rating. First of all, the reception team was excellent, especially Mr. Furkan and the other staff members. They were professional, helpful, understanding, and did their best to assist me throughout my stay. However, to be honest, I booked my room through Agoda and paid extra for a city-view room. Despite that, I was initially given a very small room facing the back of surrounding buildings, which was not what I had paid for. When I raised the issue, the team moved me to a larger room with a street view, but it was quite noisy. Finally, during the last three days of my stay, they moved me to a room with the city view that I had originally paid for. I am very thankful to the reception team for understanding my concern and working to resolve it. Therefore, I would give the hotel staff and reception team 5 stars for their excellent service and customer care. However, I would give the room allocation process 1 star, as I did not receive the room category I had booked until later in my stay. Very comfortable hotel, with lovely roof to restaurant, great food. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Just a note that Furkan very kindly made us tea while we waited for our taxi, and loaded all 3 bags! We felt very looked after!
