WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER — PLEASE BE AWARE BEFORE BOOKING! Our experience at Hotel Yavuz in Türkiye was absolutely awful. The way we were treated was unacceptable, disrespectful, and deeply upsetting. We left feeling humiliated, uncomfortable, and completely disappointed. 1. Unacceptable treatment of my child at breakfast During breakfast, we felt as though the staff were constantly watching us, making us extremely uncomfortable. My son came downstairs late and took a few items of food with him, including a croissant, a banana, and a muffin. A staff member stopped him, took the food from his hands, and threw it directly into the garbage without any warning or reasonable explanation. I found this behaviour absolutely ridiculous. How does throwing away perfectly good food make more sense than allowing a child to keep it? The lack of consideration and compassion was shocking. 2. An unreasonable demand for an additional hotel room We booked three rooms for eight people: one for my parents, one for my husband, myself, and our youngest child, and another for three of my boys. The hotel then insisted that we pay for a fourth room because my 10-year-old son was apparently considered an adult under their room-occupancy rules. I was absolutely shocked. Who expects a 10-year-old child to sleep alone in a separate hotel room in a foreign country? As a parent, I was not comfortable with that arrangement, and rightly so. The demand was unreasonable and completely unacceptable. We did not agree to take the additional room. However, when we went out for the day, the hotel staff deactivated our key cards and refused to give us access to our belongings until we paid for a separate room that we did not want or use. We felt trapped and held hostage over our own belongings. We were forced to pay simply to regain access to our things. This was one of the most outrageous and distressing hotel experiences we have ever had. 3. The police response was deeply disappointing I called the police for assistance, hoping they would listen to our concerns and help resolve the situation fairly. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled left us feeling completely ignored. When the officers arrived they spoke in Turkish with the hotel staff, but they never once spoke to us to hear our side of the story. Instead, we saw them standing outside smoking, laughing and having a fun time together with the hotel staff. The entire interaction was one-sided and the staff got preferential treatment. As visitors in a foreign country, we expected to be treated with fairness and respect instead the experience left us feeling unwelcome and whether discrimination played a big role in how we were treated. 4. A frightening incident involving a stranger and my friends' baby To make matters worse, my friends staying at the hotel experienced an incident that left them frightened. A woman they did not know knocked on their hotel room door and asked whether they needed a babysitter. The situation was completely unexpected and unsettling. The woman then proceeded to enter their room and expressed that the baby was so cute, attempting to take the baby. My friends were understandably alarmed and scared. They ultimately left the hotel and found accommodation elsewhere because they no longer felt comfortable or safe staying there. Overall, this was an extremely distressing experience. We felt disrespected, unfairly treated, and deeply uncomfortable throughout our stay. I also felt that we were treated unfairly and question whether discrimination played a role in how we were treated. No family should have to go through this kind of experience while travelling, especially when travelling with children. What should have been a pleasant trip became an upsetting experience that left a bitter taste in our mouths. PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING HOTEL YAVUZ IN TÜRKİYE. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel to families, and I would never choose to stay here again.
We loved it. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The staff were helpful and very competent. They organised an early check-in in breakfast for no cost. Wonderful. The breakfast was good. Great position, close to all the local sites which are within walking distance. We also used the on site Hamam which was wonderful. Affordable. We recommend it.
great location of the hotel, only 10 min from grand bazaar and 10 min from the blue mosque/sultanahmet area. we stayed as part of the stopover program with turkish airlines and honestly werent expecting much, but this exceeded our expectations. we only waited about 30 min for our room, which we recieved before the promised check in time, as we arrived earlier than expected. the lobby bathrooms were very very clean and smelled amazing. the room was cozy and extremely comfortable, and slippers were provided as well. the room and bathroom were very clean. we only used the hotel for resting and sleeping and exploring the nearby area, but it was a great stay overall. the hotel transport is a bit pricey to the airport (60 euros one way), but convenient if someone needs it.
I had a wonderful stay at Grand Yavuz Hotel. The location is excellent, within walking distance of the major historical attractions, making it very convenient to explore Istanbul. The staff were friendly, professional, and always ready to help with any questions or requests. My room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the breakfast offered a good variety of fresh options to start the day. Overall, the hotel provides great value for money, and I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Istanbul. Highly recommended!
