We were very nervous about bringing our 90 year-old mother to the highlands because her mobility is challenging. We didn't know what and how much we could practically do and we were worried about getting into any difficulties. However it was something she really wanted to do since her one-day visit to Inverness several years ago as part of a cruise excursion. So we (nervously) decided to give it a try. Our hotel concierge recommended Andrew at Hames Tours, so I emailed him explaining our situation and concerns with mobility. Our experience with Hames was amazing. Our tour guide was Neil, and he could not have been more helpful and just made our trip a delight! His knowledge of the rich local history and his ability to customise our day-trips perfectly to suit our needs was so much appreciated. He went above and beyond to help make sure our mum was able to experience as much as possible. He pushed her wheelchair over some of the more tricky terrain, helped her in and out of the car and generally kept a close eye on her safety and comfort. We were so grateful for that as it made it possible for us all to really enjoy our time in the highlands. We enjoyed all of the sites that Neil took us to around the area - Urquhart Castle, Cawdor Castle, Culloden and of course a boat trip on Loch Ness, and the beautiful countryside. The vehicle was perfect for our needs, and very comfortable, with fresh water provided each day. We all had an incredible time and most importantly our mum did too! We will definitely be returning next year and calling Hames to arrange more amazing day trips for us.

Itinerary
Learn some of its fascinating history and visit the hill where Saint Columba made pilgrimage to the Pictish King, preaching “new Christianity” to the warrior Brude in his hill fortress around 550AD.
Appreciate the strategic significance of the town to the sea and understand the various fortifications by Oliver Cromwell, and in turn the British Army, whose government forces have garrisoned the town from Jacobite times to the present day.
Motor past Tomnahurich Hill then down the mouth of the Great Glen to Loch Ness. Visit Urquhart Castle steeped in history, myth and monster legend. Take the opportunity, if so inclined, to do a bit of “Monster Spotting.”
Wonder at the geographic fault that divides the Highlands and glimpse the remarkable engineering feat of the Caledonian Canal, enabled by the Lochs that host its coast to coast passage.
At this point you have the option of returning to Inverness via Fort Augustus and the South shore of Loch Ness, taking in the impressive Falls of Foyers, or continuing Northwards from Drumnadrochit over Culnakirk Hill down into Beauly with its 13th Century Priory.

We had a full day tour with Michael and he took us to all the hot spots in Inverness. He was professional, kind, and funny and made our trip so memorable! He gave us an amazing mix of history, knowledge and culture. We cannot recommend him enough!
My two brothers and I had an absolutely incredible two separate day tours guided by Michael. From the moment he picked us up, Michael set the tone with his great humor and deep knowledge of Scotland's history and culture. Every stop was thoughtfully chosen - including breathtaking landscapes and historic castles. Michael tailored the experience perfectly to our tastes/interests (whisky inference intended!). The vehicle was spotless ands comfortable and Michael's driving was smooth and confident. We were able to relax and enjoy the views. If you want a tour that combines professionalism, authenticity, and genuine Scottish hospitality this is the way to go. Highly recommend!
My wife and I were fortunate enough to get a tour from Michael on our 1 day we had in Inverness! We saw so many things it was amazing! Loch Ness, the Castle, historical crypt, battle field, Cairns, distillery, highland cattle! It was truly a day well spent with several bucket list items getting marked off the list. Visiting the Cairns in the evening dusk and the only ones there was magical! Thank you Michael!
Highly recommend! Michael was absolutely fantastic — kind, funny, and instantly felt like a friend. He went out of his way to make sure we didn’t just see what was on our list, but also got to experience a few other gems along the way. From a gorgeous beach stop to meeting Highland cows up close and exploring an extra castle ruin, every moment was memorable. It was the perfect day and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide!
My husband and I had a wonderful adventure exploring and hiking in Inverness! Great tour, beautiful scenery, highly recommend !
We had a wonderful time with Michael. We toured through the highlands for several days with Michael as our guide. He is so knowledgeable about the area and brings his wit and Scottish charm Along for the ride!! I cannot say enough about what a great trip it was bc of him. He will get you into attractions quickly that would take everyone else hours!!! He knows all the good places to eat and drink!!! If you want a real Scottish experience then go with Michael!!$
We had a wonderful experience with Michael Kern as our guide. We toured Scotland for several days. Michael's knowledge, thoughtfulness and wit made it an unforgettable experience. All of us learned alot as the tour was very informative. And, even better, we laughed and laughed. Michael added some special treats and a unique concoction or Ardberg whiskey, Black Aisle beer and baked goods from Goo Cow (as best I recall) really hit the spot. We have recommended that our daughter book a tour with Michael and Hames Touring and we would make that recommendation to anyone
Andrew was the BEST! We booked Hame tours for 3 nights to tour the Scottish Highlands. Andrew was knowledgeable about everything - the history, the landscape, the food and culture. He was the cherry on the top of this incredible trip. Highly recommend.
Anka freestyled with us. We had cruised Loch Ness the day before, so she came up with a trip filled with other sights. She was so knowledgeable of the castles and shared our enthusiasm for trees and flowers. The animals in the countryside were cute, and the Victorian spa town was stinkin cute.
Private tour of Inverness and Highlands sites. Can customize to include specific sites that you want to see. Andrew McDonald was extremely knowledgable and accommodating.
First morning in Inverness we met Michael in full kilt at our hotel. Off to Urquhart castle for first stop with a great view of Loch Ness. As we left, Michael advised that he had a surprise in store. He had discovered a memorial to my Clan MacBean that I had no idea even existed. What an amazing opportunity to visit the site of my ancestors. We spent the next 2 days with Michael as we traversed through the Cairngorms, hiking and visiting Balmoral Castle. Micheal proved to have an encyclopedic knowledge of Scotland and combined with his great sense of humor, we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him.We look forward to meeting him again in the future.
Highly recommended by Ness Walk where we stayed, couldn’t agree more. I had a rough idea of visiting some highland distilleries west of Inverness and Andrew took care of the rest. Friendly and informative from the jump, he gave suggestions and ideas to make our day perfect. Visited Balblair, Glenmorangie and Glen Ord for tastings and with a stop along the way for lunch at the Storehouse along the water. Stopped off to see some hairy coo’s towards the end of the trip to top off our 6 hour customized tour. Andrew is a font of knowledge on the highlands and Scotland in general. Can’t wait to come back and will definitely use Andrew’s services again when we do.
We toured the Scottish Highlands with Hame Tours, guided by Michael Kerr, and it was a highlight of our trip. Michael’s expertise and flexibility shone from the start, customizing every detail to our interests. His deep local knowledge and passion brought history and folklore alive. Michael expertly navigated winding roads, revealing hidden gems and breathtaking overlooks. Traveling with him was seamless, stress-free, and enriching. If you want a personal, immersive Highlands experience we recommend traveling with Michael for an authentic taste of Scotland!
Incredible experience made very special and memorable by our guide Michael. They did a great job working with our wish list and building a phenomenal itinerary, from Glasgow to Isle of Skye and Edinburgh. The Highlands were breathtaking and Michael knew the country, the detailed history and special spots, and was hilarious all the time. Highly, highly recommend.
Thank you, Andrew MacDonald & drivers Jim, Les & Ryan, for making our family trip to Inverness, Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye an absolute delight. Our travels to Scotland centered on my daughter's wedding, so the logistics of getting everybody there and back were complicated. But, Andrew was on-top of everything. The crew's professional, good humor, attention to detail and intimate knowledge of the area made for a perfect trip. The Scotland landscape is beautiful and the people are equally so. I've never written a review but am compelled to do so because of the excellent service and kindness of Andrew and his crew. Amazing experience!
Andrew is a font of knowledge and a wonderful story teller. We really enjoyed our time with him and his flexibility to fit in with our requests. Highly recommended
Had booked a three-day holiday in Inverness but, plans going awry, didn't have use of a car. Didn't want to miss out on some of the exciting sites outside the city so asked the hotel for ideas. They linked me up with Hame Tours and it worked out perfectly. Not only could they drive me around, they became my guides. Steve and Andrew were very friendly and helpful, with Andrew even giving me some of his Gaelic musical renditions! They waited whilst I viewed the sites and gave me really useful tips on other places to see, as well as lots of history info as we drove around. If anyone wants to visit places like Culloden and Fort George but is worried about not having a car, consider getting in touch with Hame!
My guide, Seoras, was exceptionally knowledgeable, and his passion for Scottish culture, the Highlands and the Gaelic language is palpable. He is a natural storyteller, eager to regale you with tales both personal and epic. I had the absolute pleasure of touring Inverness, Culloden and Chanonry Point. Including visits to famous inspirations for the book and tv series Outlander. Serolas was incomparable with his generosity and eagerness to share. Unmissable tours with amazing guides!!
We visited for the first time Inverness and walk around during 3 hours. We went along the river, walked on the pedestrian bridge which was great. We had a nice feeling of the city, it's very lively and warm people are all around. We will go back in a few days to explore some more.
Inverness's main interest is to be central to some visits to Scotland. The city centre provides everything you might need: superstores, souvenir shops, restaurants... and even street performers with their bagpipes!
