This tour was the last tour of our 2 week 20th anniversary trip to Ireland and Scotland. We went on 7 tours over the 2 weeks and Niall was absolutely the best guide we've had. He's a brilliant story teller and gave us the history and legends of the Highlands and Scotland. We had great conversations the whole trip. At the Clachan Duich Burial Ground he pulled his bagpipes out of the car and blew us away with the song he played. Definitely book this tour and ask for Niall!!

Niall was an absolutely tremendous tour guide. He showed us around the Isle of Skye, was engaging and personable, and played some fantastic music for us. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone, I will absolutely be booking this next time I’m back to see more of the highlands.
Outstanding from start to finish . An authentic Scottish gentleman, from head to toe . Niall took exceptional care of us , from our hotel pick up @0900 yo drop off @1800. He had surprises up his sleeve ( a private bagpipe playing ). He was a true gentleman—- polite & took care of us , as if we were family . We saw so many sights …. Castles , waterfalls, Scottish cows , historic old churches , etc .
This was a wonderful experience! From the very beginning, our tour guide, Niall from Highland Legends Private Tours was great! He was so kind and VERY knowledgeable. We learned so much as we travel to the Island of Skye. By the end of our tour, we felt like we had a new Scottish friend. This tour was a day of pure delight!
Great overview on the Highlands and the Isle of Skye. Neal provided excellent stories and tales to make the ride interesting .
Nial was our guide— enchanting day! Everything flowed smoothly. Nial gave us background fun stories for each location. Our lunch suggestion for Portee was wonderful as well. Towards the end of our itinerary we were serenaded with bagpipes. A tough act to follow!
Niall was exceptional. So knowledgeable and answered all our questions. His enthusiasm for the Isle of Skye was infectious! Truly an outstanding experience
Niel was amazing guide and a gentleman. Amazing tour and wonderful places. Thank you for the tour and the day
We loved everything about this tour! Niall was amazing and kept us entertained and informed. The scenery was beautiful!
I did extensive research before booking 3 separate tours with Niall (1 for Isle of Skye, 1 for Loch Ness, and a private transport tour where he took us to Stirling and Edinburgh). Not a single other review held a candle to Niall's reviews, which is why we booked with him, and now I know why. He was by far one of the best parts of our trip to Scotland. I would rebook with him again in a heartbeat. Niall made our trip to Scotland so memorable, and we're so grateful we lucked out with him as our guide. Niall's prices are completely reasonable (particularly for the length of the tours andv value of them) and worth it for the time, value, elimination of stress (no need to drive on other side of road), enabling us to relax, do some gin and whiskey tastings without concern for driving, but that is only part of the investment. By booking with Niall, you are also getting a benefit you wouldn't otherwise receive if you chose to drive yourself around beautiful Scotland- local folklore, extensive Scottish history, and everything in between. We thoroughly enjoyed all the scenery, suggestions for scotch whisky distilleries, the pace of the tours (we were never rushed), and all the laughter along the way (and there was a ton!). Niall had golfing suggestions for my husband, great dinner suggestions (No. 27 in inverness) , made sure to get us to all our destinations/bucket lists places (4 different castles including Cawdor, Urquhart, Eilean Donan, and Stirling) introduced us to hidden gems on Islay of Skye (Torabhaig Distillery and Bride's veil waterfall), and gave us the history and background to fully round out our trip and give us a deeper appreciation for the places we visited (Culloden Battlefield for example). We ended our Isle of Skye day by dipping our faces in the enchanted fairy pools (Niall lead the way by going first!), and toasting to a wonderful, beautiful day with Niall playing traditional Scottish bagpipes. Truly unforgettable. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories and trip of a lifetime. We are already wanting to come back, and when we do, we will definitely book with Niall! Love, Catherine & Chris
Niall was a terrific guide. He is very passionate about his homeland in the Highlands of Scotland and does a wonderful job showing it to his guests. He is very knowledgeable, entertaining, and extremely accommodating. This was my favorite experience after three weeks in Europe. I would highly recommend this tour.
Niall is a great guide; very informative and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the day we spent with Niall. The bagpipes were a wonderful surprise. Highly recommend.
Excellent excursion from Inverness.,in great part thanks to Neal. Extremely knowledgeable, pleasant and fun, with a great sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and stops despite a hazy weather. This is a relatively long road but nobody in our family (2 teenagers, 2 adults and 2 grandparents) ever felt bored. Neil is extremely knowledgeable on history, the regions culture or economy, and fun. We highly recommend him and the trip
Even in the rain, we had a magical day on Skye with Donald. He picked us up at our hotel and drove us to all of the sites on Skye, and even a few extra stops. We got to explore Portree on our own and then ended the day with a bagpipe performance overlooking the highlands. It was a day we’ll never forget!
What an incredible day! Niall was a fantastic tour guide. He brought local legends and history to life. Started our day off with the famous Loch Ness, then two beautiful castles, some beautiful waterfalls, quaint colorful houses, and finally the incredible old man of Stor. We also dunked our faces in the fairy water for eternal beauty! The day was incredible and worth every minute. My daughter (20) and I enjoyed this day and would highly recommend it!
We did the Isle of Skye tour with Niall and it was the highlight of our Scotland trip. The views were incredible. Niall was knowledgeable and kept all 5 of us engaged throughout the tour. We truly loved it and can’t Thank You enough. It was a wonderful day.
My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary in the highlands. We decided to avoid the large tour busses and big groups and go for a more private, intimate tour. Our driver Donald is one of the warmest and most thoughtful tour guides we’ve ever encountered. This tour met every bit of our very high expectations (based on many of the other reviews here). Donald tailored the trip to our wants and needs and was just an overall incredible ambassador to the highlands. Extremely knowledgeable, incredibly friendly, great company. We enjoyed our tour so much we booked another for Culloden and Clava Cairns the next day with Donald (which was every bit as good as this tour). Thank you to Donald for making our trip to Inverness and annniversary absolutely incredible!
Neill picked us up at our hotel right on time and from the very beginning we knew it was going to be a great day! He was very friendly and easy going. He told us all about the places we stopped at, shared great stories and local folklore. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
This was an EXCEPTIONAL tour. We learned so much! Our guide Niall was outstanding -- from geography and local wildlife and history to folklore, Niall kept us captivated and entertained.
Neal was an amazing guide. Not only does he know the history and folklore of Scotland, but he’s also an entertaining storyteller. My family thoroughly enjoyed the day we spent with him on the isle of Skye. I highly recommend this tour.
My husband and I, along with another couple, did the Isle of Skye tour with Niall and it was outstanding! The scenery was remarkable and Niall was a top tier guide. We will never forget putting our faces in the river to the cheers of a bridge full of people! I cannot recommend this tour highly enough if you want to see the Highlands, Skye, and learn a lot along the way, Niall is the best choice you could make!!!
Niall was an amazing guide of the Highlands! Though the road to the Isle of Skye was closed due to a major accident, he made our trip very memorable. We love off-the-beaten-path stops and he knew of a place in the small fishing village of Plockton. We had a lovely lunch and got to enjoy the countryside. He chatted with us to understand what else we have planned while in Inverness to make sure we would be seeing all the major spots. And since we were trending early with the road closure, he took us to a whisky distillery to cap off our adventure day. I would highly recommend taking any tour with Highland Legends Private Tours!
Niall was a wonderful driver. He worked with us to make sure we hit our wish list spots and even found a couple extra stops for fun. He shared many interesting folklore and history stories and we so enjoyed hearing him play bagpipes. We would absolutely reserve a tour with him again.

Just returned from 3 nights in Inverness, on tour with expert and local guide, Niall. What a wonderful experience! My 3rd visit to the Highlands, but this one far exceeded my expectations and previous visits. For those who are adamant that a day trip to Skye can’t be done, Niall proved it not only can be done, but it can be done masterfully. From the Rogue Falls, to the “real” fairie pool, and from a very local Portree chippy shop to a private bagpipe concert, so many bucket list boxes were checked. And all the expected stops weren’t forgotten, either. All with the humorous and accurate commentary of a genuine Highlander. Mix in some unexpected and extraordinary personal touches, our time spent was unparalleled.
Terrific day! Niall was fabulous. We would highly recommend him for a private tour, whether locally or to the Isle of Skye. Best way to spend a day in this beautiful part of Scotland. Make sure you get as many stories from Niall as you can.
Friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who really brought the experience to life. Comfortable bus , beautiful scenery and great day out , would hugely recommend
We had a wonderful day trip to Skye with Niall on our first full day in Scotland. We couldn’t have had a better experience. Niall was punctual, professional and a great guide and storyteller. This was one of the best experiences we had on our trip to Europe. Strongly recommended!
Our tour driver, Neil, is very friendly and knowledgeable. Seeing the Old Man of Storr and the scenic route to Portree. He played Bag Pipe to end the trip with us.
Niall was an exceptional guide. A veritable fountain of information, he truly loves the Highlands and brought the history, geology, biology, and culture to life for us. He is actually brilliant in addition to being kind, generous and talented. We found ourselves at a particularly beautiful spot, when out of nowhere he produces a bagpipe and started playing. An interesting, likable character, he was as important a part of our day as the glorious scenery of Skye was. Extremely highly recommended.
We loved our Isle of Sky experience! Thanks to our guide Niall, we had a seamless journey from Inverness to Sky and back. On the way, we stopped at places that have historical significance, beatifull nature spots and heard stories and legends that Niall shared with us. The car is very comfortable, the tour is organized very well, the commentaries are excellent! As a bonus, Niall played a bagpipes for us at one of the stops. It was magical! I'd highly recommend this tour with Niall.
Niall is the best tour guide we have ever had. He shared with us his extensive knowledge of the Highlands and Scotland's history. What an absolute treat it was to have him take us around the Isle of Skye. The beautiful scenery combined with his knowledge and professionalism made for a wonderful trip. He was great with our teen age kids and kept it very interesting for all of us. Thank you Niall, if we are ever blessed enough to return we will be calling you for sure.
Niall was excellent !!! Very knowledgable and professional. He was able to add the history behind the stops and sites we visited. He made the day. Its a long tour and covers a lot of territory. I would recommend this trip for anyone who wants to experience the highlands.
Spent the day in Skye on this memorable tour with Niall. He really is hands down the best tour guide you can get. A Highlander through and though he knows the area like the back of his hand. An experience you will never forget. He played the bagpipes which was an added treat not found on just any tour.
Highland Legends was a SPECTACULAR tour, one of the absolute best I have had the privilege of experiencing in all my years of globetrotting - I simply cannot recommend it enough. As an avid traveler, I am always looking for unique and memorable adventures. My friend and I spent a week in Scotland and this was definitely the highlight of our whole trip. We spent a full day with Niall, a Highlands native and our guide extraordinaire, who regaled us with Scottish folklore and tales, driving us to some of the most breathtaking places I have ever seen. The day was well paced and logistics handled seamlessly. We covered a ton of ground, both in Inverness and Isle of Skye, stopping to marvel at the various Glens, Lochs and castles of this magnificent country. Highlights included the Quiraing, various Fairy Pools, Eilean Donan, Glen Coe, Kilt Rock, Portree, and adorable Highland Cows (the true attraction). Niall is one of the top private guides in all of Europe: he has a mild demeanor, a soothing voice (perfect for a podcast recording), and a brilliant sense of humor. He is engaging, informative, and entertaining, well-versed in all things Highland (history, culture, geography, fun facts) and adds a personal touch to every element of the tour. He brought the landscape to life, and we were transported to a different time; his narration brought glorious technicolor to the sometimes rainy and atmospheric Scottish climate. The beauty of the Scottish Highlands cannot be matched, and Niall provides the most authentic, immersive experience on his tour. This was a thrilling and unforgettable experience, I will never forget it.
