It was a great way to see the surroundings of Inverness! George was super informative about all the little details of the area. We had an awesome time.

Entry optional - Once one of Scotland’s largest castles, Urquhart saw great conflict during its 500 years as a medieval fortress. Control of the castle passed back and forth between the Scots and English during the Wars of Independence. The power struggles continued, as the Lords of the Isles regularly raided both castle and glen up until the 1500s. The last of the government troops garrisoned here during the Jacobite Risings blew up the castle when they left. Urquhart’s iconic ruins remain, offering glimpses into medieval times and the lives of its noble residents.
Originally a 16th century Jacobean Castle and part of the house date to this time early on various owners claimed Culloden as their home ranging form King Robert 11 to the Chieftain of the Macintosh clan. The tour was ok but was surprised that we were the only 2. This was not marked clearly as a private tour. It was interesting but overpriced.
Ken McKinnon was very knowledgeable, patient and fun. We really enjoyed his stories and he took us to so many wonderful places. I would definitely recommend this tour and guide.
This ended up being a private tour. Trevor was local to it all and we were able to make some changes to spend time doing what was important to us. We went places and saw things that you could never do in a bus, and at our own pace. Trevor was a wealth of information on the area, the conflicts of the past, his people live and, of course, about the entire Outlander location experience.
George was very knowledgeable and showed us lots. Everyone should use George's company through Viator
Everyone in our large party really had an incredible time on this tour. It was neat to see all the Outlander sites. George knows all about the show and relates the show to what you are seeing. George was a very good guide and did a great job for us! If you like Outlander, you should book this tour!
What an amazing day! George really made this experience even better! We loved his narration and his sense of humor. He had a lot of knowledge, both of the Scottish history as well as the Outlander show. He went out of his way to accommodate our large party and he definitely did not disappoint! What a great tour and a great day we had! Book this today and you won't be disappointed.
George was wondering. He’s so passionate about history in Scotland. There were 18 in the group. Everything went perfectly and we were back at the port by 4p. Highly recommend
George was the Perfect Guide for us. Pleasant and thorough. We didn’t feel rushed, we weren’t pushed to buy anything anywhere, or go anywhere we didn’t want to go. The tour is perfectly timed to enjoy a full day and make it back to the cruise ship with time to change before dinner. I will definitely recommend him!
Our tour guide George was very curt we were so disappointed with this tour we paid a lot for it He drove around did not stop at the Nessie location discouraged us from going down to Urquhart Castle and told us to take pictures from tne fence as we didn’t have time we felt he showed us things were not of interest like local butcher’s show that no longer existed he also got very angry when asked abt getting back to ship on time and said “Jesus crist you people are getting up my back if I say I’m getting back to the ship I’m getting back to the ship, “ we felt very uncomfortable asking anything he showed his anger in one or more times we have 4 tours and more this trip and many others always a fun experience there was NO fun actually the experience was bad, total disappointment we couldn’t wait to leave him we are sure he took his time to get back right at the last min he also had a bad odour . We feel he didn’t frame us to places listed This was expensive tour l would like to hear back from you I have not ever complained we are not picky this is a once on a lifetime trip and we all were so disappointed would recommend but with a different your guide.
This experience will teach you the history of Scotland while providing a fun experience. George did an amazing job explaining the significance of each site and really helped us to understand the history and appreciate the sacrifices people have made in search of freedom . He was funny and answered all of our questions, and did not laugh at our dumb questions. At no point did we feel rushed which allowed us to take each experience in fully. He made sure we were comfortable at all times and he is a great storyteller. By the end of the tour we felt like we were part of his family as he took great care to make sure we had a great time. I would recommend this tour to everyone, you will not regret it. I would definitely book other tours with him when I return. Be prepared to walk and dress appropriately as you are outdoors for extended periods of time.
George was very kind, started perfectly on time, and overall the tour was great! It was based on Outlander and historic Scottish sites, and since it was just my husband and me, it felt like a private and personalized experience. We started with the beautiful Hairy Coos at Robertson Farm, then visited Beauly Priory and Wardlaw Mausoleum in Kirkhill, where George explained everything in detail — both historical facts and Outlander references. Along the way, he made short stops to show us interesting historical spots. The itinerary mentioned 1.5 hours at Urquhart Castle and 30 minutes at Great Glen Distillery. I thought we would visit Urquhart Castle inside, but we only stopped for about 5–6 minutes on the roadside to take photos. As for Great Glen Distillery, we were not informed that we wouldn’t be visiting it. Around 11:50 a.m., George kindly took us to the Victorian Market in Inverness for lunch, where we had about one hour to eat and explore local spots he recommended. In the afternoon, we visited Culloden House, Clava Cairns, and Culloden Moor. The entry fee at Culloden was £12.50 per person, but they charged us £33 as a family — I’m not sure why. The battlefield tour lasts about one hour, so dress warmly, as it’s very windy out there! We arrived back in Inverness around 4:20 p.m. George was kind, patient, and very knowledgeable — I truly appreciated his explanations about both Scottish history and Outlander filming sites.
Great day in scotland! George was so good and told us alot about Scottish history. It was just my wife and I on the tour so it was great getting to talk to each other throughout the day. I would recommend this tour to anyone making a trip to Inverness.
George, our tour guide gave a wonderful day. Not only did we see the sites referenced in the show (Outlander), we learned the true significance of these locations. We also made stops at clan graveyards for both Mackenzie and Fraser and George explained much of these family's histories and how they relate to the show. We also got to see beautiful countryside and visited a farm for close-up photos with a couple of highland cows, but no, Nessie didn't make herself seen when we stopped at Loch Ness.
We loved this experience. George was great. He took us to so many places and was very informative and just all around a great guy. Would recommend him anytime. Hoping to return to this area sometime and will definitely look him up.
George was the most incredible tour guide! This was the best of all the tours I have taken! He normally take 4-6 people but still took us even though it was just my husband and I. He was very knowledgeable and took us to places I would have never found or known about! Such a fun day!
A lot of walking and too much time at the battlefield. Loved seeing the highland cows up close and face to face.
This Outlander Tour was one of the highlights of my trip! George was great! We saw so many Outlander related locations, and he took us to out-of-the-way places that I'm sure you couldn't find on any other tour! What a full day of exciting experiences that any Outlander fan or Scotland history buff would revel in! I highly recommend this tour!
Clan Tours run by George was an excellent day filled with numerous stops where George told us the history of each location while also having a great sense of humour. He took us to so many sites related to the Outlander series, I would definitely recommend this excursion to anybody.
We just finished this tour with George today and it was AWESOME. He took us everywhere and had so many points of interest about areas where Outlander was filmed and historical places. He walked us around Clava Cairns and told us all about it, had a lot of knowledge to impart on us. I would recommend Clan Tours to anybody wanting a tour full of original sites and with a driver such as George that had so much personality and humour. It was our last day in Inverness and though it rained most of the day, it was one of my favourite things about this trip.
Covers All you want in Invergordon and Inverness plus much more . George our tour guide and driver was awesome giving us much more than the tour described in little and big tidbits of information based on his expert local knowledge and Outlander actual history knowledge.
We had a wonderful tour with George. Enjoyed all the stops. Lots of good information about the area and its history.
This was such a lovely day touring a wonderful variety of stops and George was a superb host and guide. Not everyone in our party was as familiar with Outlander as others but he made sure that everyone was included and we all got so much out of learning about the area and the fascinating history. Highly recommend this for anyone visiting the area looking for a full day that is still relaxed and fun!
This was a great private tour for us. Bob went above and beyond to make sure we liked our tour. Even if you are not huge Outlander fans this is still a good choice.
George was amazing! It was as jut the two of us! It was basically our own private tour!!! He was very knowledgeable and new a lot of the history , that I feel a lot of the tour guides would not know. We really had a fantastic experience! 10 out of 10!!!!!
Fabulous and comprehensive tour of Outlander shooting locations, the highlands, battle sites, castle tour, and Nessie. George was a great guide. Well worth it!
George our guide and driver were knowledgeable and showed us the area with wonderful information and the best way to see the beautiful landscape and learn more of the history. If you want to enjoy things large groups can’t access this is for you. Outlander fans or history buffs and nature lovers this is a dreamy day. Thank you!
We took this tour with kilted Scot, George Richie, and were completely happy with everything. He took us to all the Outlander locations including sneaking through the bushes of a graveyard and unlocking the Frazer church where we were able to go down into the crypt!! What fun! Clava Cairns was magical, Culloden and the stories of what happened there was dramatic and sad, while Loch Ness tickled a bit of mystery. George was fun and informative, and we would definitely recommend this tour.
George Richie was fabulous as our guide. He knows the land, the story, the history, and more. Personable and caring to the tourist. Best trip we’ve had on this cruise and would recommend it to anyone!! Thank you George!!!
Loved this tour! The history lessons and stories told by our tour guide George were the best part of the experience. He is very knowledgeable and kept the tour fun despite the bad weather!
George Richie was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and attentive. He was accommodating for my brother’s special requests. His humor was delightful! Great day.
George was a great tour guide He brought us to all the places we wanted to see and more I would definitely recommend this tour and George the tour guide
10/10! 5 stars! We had an ‘Outlander tour’ with George and it was one of the most amazing experiences! George is so knowledgeable when it comes to Scottish history. We learned and saw SO much on this tour. If you are an Outlander fan, you HAVE to book an Outlander tour with George. I left the Highlands with so much insight and amazing memories after this tour.
Tremendous time with George - would highly recommend to anyone visiting Scotland that wants a unique and knowledgeable tour. The Outlander tour was a blast, both informative and entertaining!
10/10 recommend for anyone visiting Inverness, especially if you’re not from Scotland (we’re from the US). George efficiently covered so many things we wanted to do in one day that would have been logistically tricky for us to do being totally unfamiliar with the area. And regardless of whether or not you’re familiar with Outlander, everyone will learn a lot about the city, surrounding areas, and Scottish history. George was so friendly and offered many opportunities to take photos along the way. Don’t be daunted by the length of the tour — he makes it so easy and relaxing by taking the stress of driving out of the equation. He also took us to beautiful places we didn’t even know existed and never would have seen otherwise. It was truly a memorable experience. Thank you for everything, George!
Very good tour. We liked it being private and could tweak it a bit for our own interest. George was a great guide.
We had an extremely lovely day touring around Inverness with George! He picked us up from Bunchrew house on time in a clean, spacious van and off we went. George took us to many places that inspired things for the show Outlander, including one filming spot, and was so knowledgeable about everything. After Culloden Battlefield, he even squeezed in one extra stop for us at the end. We were able to see so many beautiful sites around Inverness with George pointing out and explaining everything along the way, stopping for great photo opportunities. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone, Outlander fan or not that wants to have a wonderful day traveling around Inverness!
Good day tour, saw the stones and the guide was informative. The vehicle could of been a bit cleaner but still a house day.
This tour is great fun for Outlander fans, and even if you haven’t seen Outlander it’s still a fantastic day out! George our kilted tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a great variety of things to see and experience throughout the day. Clava cairns and Culloden are just a couple of the highlights. Oh and meeting Jamie Fraser!
George was so knowledgeable about local history and Outlander. He went out of his way to make our day the best ever, he even added more stops to our tour. 100% recommend this tour to Outlander and history fans.
By happening or at least being told it is not happening. We booked and paid the night before and were left stranded at our hotel. We left messages and emails but no response.
We had the most wonderful time. George was the best tour guide we could wish for. He gives you more insight about the wonderful culture en nature. He takes you with him in his stories. he is funny to All together we had the best time in the highlands and we are definitely coming back for more. I liked Scotland before now I love it
George was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and great personality! We got to see everything and go to all the out of the way places. Great tour, highly recommend!
My husband and I traveled from the States to see all things Outlander and this tour did NOT disappoint! Thomas was our guide and he was awesome. When he got out of the van with a Mohawk and a kilt I knew it was going to be a good day! Very knowledgeable about the area and told us so many interesting facts that we had never known. From Castle Leod to Culloden Moor, the trip was amazing! Planning a return trip is already in the works and we will absolutely book with GHD tours again! Thanks again, Tom! And keep on rocking out!
Standing Stones lived up to expectations of magical, mysterious, etc. Tom, the guide, appropriately dressed in kilt, very knowledgable about history.
Our tour couldn’t have been any better! George has so much information it’s amazing ! He is so well spoken and knowledgeable 5 stars seems to me far too low. Our group of 11 would honestly give him 100 A+ . Can’t wait to visit the area again and will definitely book with him !
George was a great guide and knew a wealth of information about the area, we were running about an hour behind and he made the most of every minute we had. He kept us informed and laughing at times too. He knew all the best sites and great stories to go with them. He gave us access to areas that other guides wouldn’t go, which was funny at times, but much appreciated. He even gave us background insight to local communities that had nothing to do with Outlander, but it was great to hear about the history of such a beautiful area.
This was probably our best experience in Scotland. Our guide, George, was exceptionally entertaining and very informative. Loved his sense of humor and honesty about historical sites. We only wish we had known about the other amazing tours he offers- we would have exclusively booked with him! I’d absolutely recommend the private Outlander tour, as we not only visited all the main Outlander sites but some beautiful additional sites as well (nature and historical!)-very much worth the price and then some!
George is the coolest. He’s hilarious and has such personality and he’s like a silver-fox, fast talking bossy (in a kind way) gentleman Scotsman. He adds to the tour in so many ways. Loves Scotland and showing it’s history, features and beauty to everyone. In addition to seeing the inspiration for the outlander series, we saw woods and fields, waterfalls and wildflowers, coos cows and giant magical 200 year old beech and pine trees at many stops - this was a bonus! Also snuck into castles and driveways for photo opps- George asks to take many photos for you and I’m so glad he did because they came out great so let him take those pics. We saw where the Beatles played on an old bandstand where we stopped for a delicious fast lunch in a beautiful village. Highly recommend. We did so much in one day. Culloden was wonderful, the waterfall and magical woodsy walks were perfect. Truly recommend this if you want to see and feel the area but have only one day or like our friends did- they’d booked him 3 days in a row even to go to Skye. We called his contact info to check in the day before and he answered right away, he even came to grab us at our hotel. He’s a class act and his kilt and cool hunting jacket blew all the other tour guides away. His van made us crack up-so awesome. School kids cheered when we drove past. Once we turned our backs and other tourists were begging George for photos and by the end we believe he’s a local celebrity!! Really laughed and smiled all day. Great tour and guide.
If you take one tour during your visit to Inverness, you will want to seek out George (the original Scot Tour Guide in a Kilt). George treats each and everyone of his guests as family. He is beyond knowledgeable and one of the most honest person I have met. He will make sure you s e and learn everything you could ever want. I had the pleasure and honor of spending a whole day with George on his Outlander tour. I’m a handicapped person and I was traveling alone. I have to admit I reached out to many tour companies and not one would accommodate me with being only one person l, but then I spoke to George and even though he didn’t have any tours booked on the day I wanted, he went above and beyond and took me on my very own private tour. None of the big companies would do this but George did. The tour was amazing and I had the best time of my life. It was the highlight of my trip. So if you want a fantastic tour by a guide that truly cares about his guests then you MUST book with GHD Clan tours and make sure to please tell George I said Hello!!!
