My husband and I arrived in Inverness in the late afternoon from London, and we had several Highland day tours already scheduled for our stay. Therefore, it was nice to have a flexible self-guided tour that we could use at our own pace, in order to see a couple of city sites. If you don't have much time, or can't make a scheduled tour time, then this self-guided tour is a good, reasonably priced option.

Found the experience mesmerizing, enjoyed the different rooms explaining various aspects of Scottish history . Very moved by the courtroom, as a Scot came out in tears. Would strongly recommend
Was an excellent tour and walk through of the highlights of central Inverness! The app and downloaded tour were very easy to use and the narration and gps were spot on. Was a bit like a hop on/hop off tour but on foot. Was informative and amusing and a perfect way to spend an afternoon!!
Perfect way to see and learn about Inverness. Choose your own pace.
Excellent. We had 4.5 hours from ship which after travel time left us with 3 hours. Perfect taste of the town. Did not go all the way to do U turn around across the river as we lingered in town a while, but didn’t miss anything when we turned around after war memorial to cross footbridge Narration also entertaining
The self guided walking tour was a great way to see the city. I especially enjoyed knowing we were in the middle of the city but it felt like a walk in the woods!
Great self guided tour. Interesting facts about the city and a good pace for learning about the history if the city and its main points of interest.
The tour was a little tricky to access at first, but that may well have been me. Once we did have access, we thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Inverness. The tour could be paused and played at our pace. The directions were easy to follow, and there were plenty of little anecdotes along the journey to keep us entertained. The route kept close to the 2 sides of the river, and was a modest length - neither too long or too short - taking in some lovely buildings and parkland. A great way to get a taste of the city.
Nice option for city tour. Walk at your own pace, the city is beautiful. Weather was perfect, beautiful. Not a difficult walk.
It is clear and easy to follow. It includes information and stories to make the way more interesting. I used it throughout 2 days so as to stop along the way whenever I felt like it.
Liked being able to follow the tour at our own pace. Information shared was interesting and informative. Only negative is that the Inverness castle is closed until 2025 but the audio hasn’t been updated. We worked around it but since the castle has been closed since 2021 it could have been updated.
Very diversified information provided, very useful to be introduced to Inverness. One single regret: while the castle is still under restoration hence not accessible, the audioguide was not updated accordingly.
The audio tour is found on Getyourguide and was very good. We were able to split it up over a couple of days. There is lots of walking, but it's mostly level and somewhat shaded. Beautiful scenery along the Ness. We were a group of 4, so we just bought the one package and shared to instead of separate headphones. There was construction at the cathedral downtown and that messed up the directions a bit but we eventually found our way. This was better than some other tours because we could go at our pace and stop along the way for shopping or eating, etc.
It was easy to follow at your own pace. We split the tour up and it did not feel rude to walk away. I wish this was available in more areas.
The tour goes at your own pace - even tells you when you go off course. This route is simple, but part of the course was closed. We could still listen to the commentary, and picked it up at the next point. An interesting tour.
The good thing about a self-guided tour is that you can do it whenever you like, so you can avoid rain or crowds. The tour itself was OK but lacked the enthusiasm of a tour guide.
Great information. We loved going at our own pace- stopping at pubs along the way. Perfect way to see the city.
Great self guided tour. Very informative, takes you around town and along the river for a nice walk with great scenery. Made some stops as suggested along the way, so it took us a little under 3 hours. App is intense on phone, glad I charger pack with me.
Excellent tour. Very informative. Nice length. Unfortunately the app charged me twice (once it said the card had failed when it hadn't so I tried another card).
This was absolutely perfect for someone like me who enjoys a walking tour but doesn't like the structure of being with a group of strangers. The app was easy to use and the narration was interesting. I split my "tour" into two days just based on some logistics, and it was easy to do that by simply starting the tour in the app and then selecting the location nearest me rather than the official start point. I will definitely try similar tours from this narrator and app in the future. Note: when I went (June 2023) Inverness Castle was under construction so I suggest walking around it to the next spot on the tour, otherwise you'll walk up a hill only to have to turn back around.
Nice walk, good length. I really like the flexibility of a self guided tour. It would be good to have a suggested coffee stop planned in - I passed all the places and I didn't realise until too late.
We were only in Inverness for a short time. This allowed us to see Inverness and not have to work around specific times. The commentary was excellent.
App easy to download and quick sign up. Have visited Inverness many times but have never done a tour before. This self- guided tour is great as you can start it at any time to suit yourself and you can stop and start it as much as you like if you want to explore a bit more. You can also go back if you want to repeat a section. The tour uses your location to know when you are at the right spot and then provides the information. This is great - no looking around wondering what you are supposed to be looking at! There is also a map so you know where you are heading. Information throughout the tour was interesting with the narrator easy to understand. Had a lovely afternoon doing the tour and you have access to the information as long as you have the app. I would certainly recommend.
We had a lovely time on this walking tour. We happened to be in Inverness the day of the Queen's funeral and because of that, the tour we originally had planned that day was canceled and everything was closed. When looking for things we could do instead we found this tour and while it would have been more fun to do being able to go in to the book shop it mentioned and other things along the way, it was still a lovely day of seeing the city and the Ness islands were so beautiful. It probably could use to be updated as the Inverness castle is currently closed and we had to walk around it to get back on the path but it wasn't too much trouble. Will definitely be looking into VoiceMap guides on future trips.
Very informative and entertaining. We have used several VoiceMap commentaries now and thoroughly enjoy them.
