About Activity
On this 10-hour tour, you will drive to San Ignacio Mission located in Misiones which was founded in 1748, is one of the most important legacies left by the Compañía de Jesús (the Jesuits) in America. It’s aimed at converting Guarani Indians to Christians. A local guide will tell us the story of this settlement; its ruins have been conserved very well in spite of the ups and downs of this historical stage until the expulsion of the Jesuits twenty years later. Today there are only remains of the peaceful relationship between two civilizations and of their rich and intense craftwork and cultural activity. We will be able to admire —one of the most evident Jesuit works— excellent representations of American Baroque, red sandstone buildings, the main square, Cabildo (town council), Church, hospital, school, stores, and elaborate designs bearing the Guarani stamp.
