Itinerary
Built on the Paraná River near the border between Brazil and Paraguay, the Itaipu Dam is the largest operational hydroelectric power plant in the world. On this panoramic sightseeing tour from Foz do Iguaçu, you’ll tour this engineering marvel, which generates a power of 12,600 megawatts, approximately 25% of the electricity consumed by Brazil and 95% of the energy consumed by Paraguay. Your guided sightseeing tour gives you an up-close view of the Itaipu Dam and offers you the chance to take some great photos! Your knowledgeable guide will be happy to answer any questions you may have. On this tour you will do the Panoramic Tour. As the ticket is not included, you will pay for it on the spot.: * The Panoramic tour : Watch a documentary film on the power plant. See the dam and spillway from the central observation deck (without entering the facility). The grandeur of a plant built between two countries, when revealed in numbers, is surprising: the Itaipu dam is 7,919 meters long and 196 meters high. But when viewed from close up and from various angles in a tour around the Itaipu Panoramic, it impresses even more and guarantees a unique and striking experience. In addition to the privileged view of the spillway at the top of the dam, the path still allows contact with nature and beautiful landscapes within the Itaipu Tourist Complex. * The Technical tour cannot be done in this tour.

This is not a tour but a taxi ride to the dam, where you have to pay for the entrance and tour when you get there. There was no sightseeing because all the driver did was picked us up from hotel and took to the dam. Do not get trapped in this scam.
The place is great to visit, but the price charged by Viator is very high for what is essentially a transfer from your hotel to the place and back. Once there, you pay an entry fee (definitely worth going for the more expensive internal tour, especially if you are interested in engineering). All of the time at the site is managed by the Itaipu Dam staff. Get a taxi there and save a lot!!
Great tour, the driver was very friendly and sharing a lot of cool details and open for any questions. He let me do the tour at my own pace, which is always good. I extremely recommend it. The dam is amazing and great place to visit.
This is a good place to visit if you have several days in Foz. I did like that we were on a few buses within the park, and that you get a very good view of the dam. It is the largest dam we have ever visited. They have a good souvenir shop also.
We had a horrible experience. A driver from Grey Line tours met us and took us to the Itaipu Dam, but once we go there, we were told that we did not have tickets. Itaipu staff are great people and did a lot of legwork for us. We speak Italian, Spanish, and English, but not Portuguese, so the staff called trip advisor and Grey Line tours and confirmed very bad news for us. They confirmed that Trip Advisor does not do business with anyone named Gray Line. They also confirmed that the 252.30 Brazilian Real that we paid for this trip (about $66) was only for the transportation from the hotel to the dam. We are working with our bank to get the 252.30 Real refunded. We were forced to buy our own tickets. We took an Uber back to the hotel for less than $4, as it was only 8km. Somehow we were taken advantage of. Perhaps you can help us rectify this situation. Thanks,
It is an awesome place to visit. It is pretty impressive! It is the second largest Dam in the world, however it is the one that produces the more power than any other. I recommend the tour. loved it and I also learned a lot from the tour guides.
Don't miss if you have enough time in Iguazu fall. This would be a half day trip. Don't book this tour. All they provide is transportation which you can book yourself.

Unfortunately, the guide on the Dam tour didn't even offer an English option so I wasn't able to understand any of the information given. The dam itself is worth seeing though.

Just finished with this tour.IGU CITY BUS TOURS (local company) turn up an hour late and after being reminded a non English speaking guide turns up and gets some random person off the dam entrance queue to do the translation stating he wll pick us up after 2hrs and doesnt turn up there at all.

My confirmation states that entry cost is excluded and there are 2 options: panoramic or technical tour. Pick up and drop off are included. I selected the technical tour but no one came to collect me. I called and was told I'd taken the wrong tour and forfeited pickup. $30 taxi back. Terrible service!

This was the best Dam tour ever! : Some people are annoyed that this tour essentially is transport to get to the Dam and back to your hotel, but it clearly states what's included and what's not. Depending on which hotel you stay at, the taxi fare round trip will be much more than this costs, so it's well worth it as the Dam is about a 20-minute drive outside of town. We weren't expecting much to see, but were pleasantly surprised at how organized and tourist-friendly a dam can be. Be sure to bring your passport and cash with you the rep wouldn't accept credit card as he booked our tickets as one large transaction he assumed we only wanted to do the panoramic tour but we were interested in the technical tour too. It takes about 1 hour for each tour and the only English version was at 10:30 back to back. The other 2 people in our bus only did the panoramic so they had to wait an hour for us to be done with our technical tour. We highly recommend the special/technical tour as you really get to see the inner workings of the entire facility up close and with knowledgeable guides. The short video before you go on the tour is very helpful, but we recommend watching something on YouTube from National Geographic beforehand to better understand the context and mechanics in layman's terms to fully appreciate the modern marvel that this place really is.

to less Information before: not clear how Long is the driving, how Long is the tour, which tour exactlly we are doing, if we have to pay additional entrance or not, etc...
but the Itaipu dam is nice and interessting to see!

the bookings indicated a pick up/ tour starts at 2pm and we got pick up from the hotel at 6 pm .
not what it says on the descriptions of the tour .
not worth the money and time.

It was a privilege having accommodated for this tour. Actually i was taking Macuco Safari in the morning yet my tour agency in Iguazu managed to squeeze the schedule in order for me to join this Itaipu Dam tour in the afternoon.
The place is huge, i am amazed on how this dam was built. I am happy to know that both Brazil and Paraguay were benefited from this huge construction. This is really a massive engineering.
Highly recommended!

The package only for transport, the driver is great, but still a bit expensive for transport.

This tour just covered the cost of transportation. A taxis would cost less.

The dam itself is quite impressive. However, I find that the tour was a bit short. The tour included a film, which presented the history of the dam, and a bus trip around the dam with several stops for picture-taking. I suggest to those who will visit to also include the park in the itinerary.

Not worth seeing if there was no overflow from the dam. DO NOT DO THIS TOUR! very very very disapointing as our guide was DEFINTELY NOT ENGLISH SPEAKING and we felt very unsafe! we got to the dam and nothing was organised and we had to book another tour on arrival to the dam. very very unhappy

Everything is fine, except for the fact that the operator did not inform in advance that the park tickets were not included and that it was necessary to buy them at the entrance. The amount paid was only for the transfer.
ATTENTION: This tour only includes the transfer from the hotel to the dam. IT DOES NOT INCLUDE TICKETS EITHER. The experience with the driver was pleasant, but the price is totally inappropriate.
I bought the Itaipu tour, and the truth is that it is not clearly stated that it does NOT include the entrance fee. The issue is that they charged us 106 dollars ONLY for the transfer to the dam, which is 8 km from the hotel. A taxi charges about 20 dollars for the same service... a theft. I recommend that you take a taxi and buy the tickets there; you will spend about 30% of what they charge here, especially if there are many of you.
We did the panoramic, but I recommend the special (which goes denyto of Itaipu and also does the panoramic circuit). It's impressive and worth every penny.
Pasar en frente de los tubos de conducción y la vista panorámica de la hidoeléctrica. Vista del canal de rebose abierto
It is the second most fascinating attraction in Foz, second only to the Falls, they are always friendly, polite, priority for disabled and elderly people works and the Itaipu Iluminada tour is incredible, it is always worth it, it was my second visit with my mother and kids and they loved it, the musical show that precedes it is anthology. Looking at Itaipu as an engineering work is brilliant, not only technically but also in terms of the logistics of the place, first world!
Definitely worth it, beautiful surroundings and a 5 minute walk is also a large Ferris wheel. Entrance costs 48 BR and the park itself is not that big but the view is grand. Food and drinks very affordable.
Nuestro guia Daniel, genial, super diligente, muy buena experiencia. Para Antonio, no podemos dejar de agradecerle su disposicion y muy amable y dispuesto a explicarnos todo, siempre con una sonrisa y muy cercano. Felicitaciones!!
Beautiful experience in Blue park, the hotels accessible and clean, varied breakfast, on the 31st in the pedestrian a concert open to the public and so we receive the 2023
They charge R$154 for a panoramic tour on the bus, with a stop of 15 minutes each in 2 different viewpoints, after knowing the first viewpoints we have to go back to the buses and wait for release until the next viewpoints (we stayed longer on the bus than in the contemplation). The construction is pharaonic, but the view is not there these things, my feeling was of waste of time and money, so if n want to waste money and time in this beautiful place that is Iguaçu, avoid this tour. If you still want to make the ride, go on account and buy the ticket there, you will leave much cheaper and more comfortable going by Uber.
Architectural and technological wonders. Extremely clean park, wooded, blooming, very well cared for, organized, with people who serve the tourist with a lot of kindness and attention.
Mega worth it Vc think q is a nice and different thing, but only when you get there you have notion of what really is ... and how big it is...
I paid $70.00 and my ticket was not available I spoke to the intermediary agency and she said it was the Enterprise of Rio de Janeiro In the end we bought new tickets and we managed to make the tour at the last hour. The agency girl returned R$92,00 and the rest was loss
A special visit is worth a lot for the indescribable experience, you see this giant from the outside is very beautiful, but its interior is impressive, you get lost in the proportions of things so grandiose as the plant. It was a life-long tour, history, curiosity and the proportion of the outside becomes small when we are inside. Very good to know the mechanical part, technology and depth.
It should be called transfer to the dam as this is what includes: transport from the hotel to the dam and back to the hotel. It makes no sense to call it a half-day tour since the only Service provided by Grey lines is the transportation to the dam which by the way costs 35 r$ for 4 people from Uber. TripAdvisor should also be more rigorous in defining packages
We made a panoramic visit. A tour of the plant on an open bus, with the option to go in the closed part. During the journey we will hear the explanations on each location. There are two stops for photos. It's worth it.
Super organized, has an ufanistic air that begins with the movie showing the story of Itaipu, Then the tour on the bus, double deck, which goes explaining as you move, telling the story of the fauna, flora, generation and distribution of energy Makes three stops for photos and meals, passes over the entire dam and also underneath, explaining how it works. It was very worth it, and it's not expensive.
name: maura barbosa Email: mlubicia@hotmail.com I bought the announced "half-day tour in the hydroelectric station of itaipu" today 09/07 for the value of 375,48 (for 3 adults). the announced spoke of a tour that lasted around 4 hs, with guide and transfer. It is understood that it is a complete tour including the internal visit to the plant, due to the announced duration and the presence of a guide. The panoramic tour is much cheaper, and with local guide right inside the buses of the complex. It was scheduled at the vaucher the time of 14:00h. by message via whatsapp the attendant of Enterprise Gray Line tours was scheduled to pick up at a hotel at 14:20h. we arrived at the entrance of the plant at 14:35h. The driver knew nothing, left us and left, had no guide. At the ticket office I was informed that the tour had started at 14:00h and we should have arrived earlier. I called Enterprise Gray Line to complain about the schedule that the driver had left us, they said they received from tripadvisor an external, panoramic tour. I questioned the amount paid and said that at no time in the tour announcement said it was just the panoramic tour. I'm feeling hurt, the value is absurd. I had to pay for the ticket for the panoramic tour at the ticket office which costs only 40,00, because my voucher was a much higher value. I'm going for my rights. I expect explanations and the reimbursement of what was paid, as the announcement of the tour does not correspond to what was made. I await an answer to take my proper measures.
Itaipú is the largest hydro power plant in the world and my visit was very good. If you are in Itaipu go on the bus ride.
I am proud to be Brazilian. Seeing this work thrilled me.Great and majestic. Part of Brazil that envaidece. The tour takes approximately 1h30 that pass too fast.Easy access due to so many companies that offer transportation and reasonable price. Imperdible
There are two types of visits: panoramic and special. We made the special and went inside the dam and inside the force house. A wonderful experience, to experience this MONUMENTAL, GIGANTIC work. The panoramic only allows you to travel the dam outside. I found and special much more interesting, but it is much more expensive. But worth it!
We went on the Paraguay side. First they show you a video explaining the story and some relevant figures about the Dam. Then there is a walk to the Mirador and then by encore through the different sections (I don’t know if there is another tour where you are let in to see the turbines). Very interesting.
The ride to Usina is nice, however the Enterprise that I purchased the transportation provides a poor quality Service because he left us on the spot and did not come back to search, despite having paid for the go and go as was discriminated in the voucher: "What includes • Local guide Transfer and return to the hotel in Foz do Iguaçu" I do not recommend Enterprise IGU CITY BUS.
Stunning construction worth seeing for its fabulous views and explanations of the construction.
Grand, the world's smallest hydropower plant in power generation wonderful, cultural, a work that could never be done in Brazil again
To know how construction, employability, binational division was. The immensity in energy generation.
Giant architecture!!! The explanation on the construction was excellent! We were lucky because they opened the boxes and the show was amazing. It's worth it.
