I really enjoyed the Heritage Train from Da Nang to Hue. It departed exactly on time and arrived exactly on time, and the train itself was comfortable, attractive and a really lovely way to travel between the two cities. There are a few stops along the way that can seem completely random because very little is explained in English. The railway is largely single-track, so the train sometimes pulls into a station to allow an oncoming train to pass before continuing. One important thing if you are travelling with luggage: there are no dedicated luggage racks at the ends of the carriage. There is large open overhead storage, but you need to be able to lift your suitcase up yourself. I personally wouldn’t pay extra for the VIP carriage. The regular seats were comfortable, and passengers are free to move around the train anyway. The VIP carriage actually seemed to attract more people standing around the windows taking photos. Also, don’t rely too heavily on choosing a particular side for the views. You have an assigned seat, but the train’s orientation can change, so the seat you thought would face the scenic side may end up on the opposite side. There’s a small food counter onboard and traditional Vietnamese performances during the journey, which added a really nice touch. Overall, a beautiful, comfortable and memorable way to travel to Hue. On arrival, I’d recommend using Grab rather than the taxi drivers waiting outside the station.

Itinerary
From the train's perspective, Lap An Lagoon appears like a vivid picture with green patches of wet rice fields, rich flora and fauna, and floating water surface. You can see basket boats gently rowing on the water, creating a peaceful and quiet picture of a peaceful countryside.
Following Lap An Lagoon is Lang Co Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. Lang Co Beach attracts tourists with its smooth white sand and turquoise sea water. From afar, the mountain ranges and forests hidden in the mist create a majestic and wild scene.
As the train rolls through Hai Van Pass, passengers will witness a series of wonderful landscapes. First is the constant flow of the sea below, with white waves crashing against the limestone shores of the coastal strip. The vast seascape opens before your eyes like a work of natural art. Next, passengers will admire the majestic beauty of the eye-catching green mountain ranges, surrounded by fog and white clouds, creating a mysterious and romantic space. The scenery here is not only beautiful but also very immersed in nature, creating a feeling of relaxation and tranquility for those who pass by.

This is a 4 hour trip from Da Nang to Hue either way but it didn't feel that long. Very relaxing. Great chairs with plenty of leg space. Scenery is amazing up through the mountains along the coast. Staff at stations very helpful but leaving luggage in Da Nang overnight cost 400,000VD. Toilets on board. Souvenirs, drinks and food for sale. Free live music in refreshments carriage.
This was a comfortable way to get from De Nang to Hua but tbh we expected more spectacular views (maybe this is relative); thought that there would be an opportunity to stop for photos - there was one rather random stop at a station and were a bit disappointed by the community carriage. We thought that entertainment would be provided throughout - and there was some of the way but when we went back towards the end of the journey there were two rather bored looking women just on their phones and not singing or playing music.
This train is very slow but so very scenic. We really enjoyed the views and the glimpses into the way of life of country Vietnamese people. Very cheap trip as well… $10aud from Hue to Da Nang. 😳
Beautiful scenery. However, one side of the train is substantially better than the other. When we booked, that was not mentioned and there was no way to select seats. Unfortunately, we were seated on the inferior side.
I booked two tickets for the Heritage Hai Van Pass train well in advance to make sure we got window seats. Despite reserving a month early, the intermediary assigned us two seats far from the window and even separated from each other. We ended up paying almost twice the official price without receiving any additional service. The intermediary later justified this by saying that other passengers had booked up to two months earlier, but the result is that—even with our early reservation—we were given the worst seats available (including seats blocked by pillars). A disappointing experience: I strongly advise against using this service. Buying the tickets on your own is definitely more convenient and reliable.
Easy boarding process and communication. Beautiful countryside along the coast and very comfortable train!
What a fabulous journey. Comfortable and spacious seats, air conditioned and dining car. Views over the ocean are stunning, loved every minute.
The Heritage Train from Hue to Da Nang was a decent way to travel between the two cities, but it was generally an average experience overall. The highlight was definitely the stunning ocean views as the train wound its way around the coast and approached Da Nang, making for some great photo opportunities. If you’re not in a hurry, it’s a good option for a slower-paced journey instead of travelling by road. Just don’t expect it to be a major sightseeing attraction in itself.
We almost missed the train due the station not being able to find the tickets we purchased through Viator. The train ran late making us late for our return journey. 1 st half of the trip had beautiful views, the 2nd is less spectacular. Staff on the train were great Seats are very comfortable
This is a company who books your ticket for you. The views are beautiful if you’re on the right side of the train. Otherwise it can be hard to see because people will close the curtains and sleep. It has one long stop in the middle.
Beautiful way to get from Huế to Đà Nẵng, it is inexpensive, very comfortable, but does lack the tour aspect.
The train was spacious and clean. The views were beautiful. There was a csr that had singing performances and hot food you could purchase. 2.5 hours was a comfortable length of of time.
Lovely views. You have to book the actual Heritage train and a seat on the left side for the best views of the bay.
This was an amazing mode of transport between Hue to Danang. The scenery was amazing and the seats very comfortable. Booked through Trip advisor which is always who we book through and had seated tickets in the preferred left side. There is a food carriage on this train and the do a Vietnamese dance during the trip. So much better than going by plane.
We are very happy with this company Always on time
This train route was hyped as one of the world's most beautiful. We didn't find it that way. There were some glimpses of the coast, but most of the time it was obstructed by telephone/electrical lines, which should logically have been placed on the mountain side instead of the seaside. We found the Bergen-Oslo and the Anchorage-Seward rides much more beautiful. The Vietnamese classical music performances in the cafe car was pretty good though, and was the highlight of our round trip.
Absolutely fantastic!! The train journey is beautiful and is one of the top 10 in the world! It takes about 3.5 hours to get from De Nang to Hue. The breathtaking views and (if you want to) wonderful dancing and singing with the local Vietnam tourists, is a lot of fun. There is also traditional live music playing. Certainly one of the most fun things I’ve done in Vietnam!! The seats are comfortable and the train is not freeing cold ( like most trains) inside!! So if you want a great experience with a memorable day out !! Go for it !!!
Although maybe a slightly long at 3 and a half hours the scenery was spectacular. Don't make the mistake we made thinking it was a return journey. That said our tour operator secured us a shuttle bus to get us home at reasonable cost.
Would not suggest. I had tried on several occasions the two months previous to contact the tour company via Viator, WhatsApp and email and I received no answer. It was only a few days before the train ride that I got a message from the tour company to say that the time of the train changed.
Lovely experience. Viet the tour guide was so helpful when I needed my ticket changing and got it sorted for me within minutes. Live music on board, food and amazing views!
Fabulous way to travel between Hue and Da Nang getting to experience the more rural places and travelling over the Hai Van Pass
The train did not exist The Viator ticket was not recognised or valid and we were left with no alternative than to make our own arrangement for the journey We have tried to contact the supplier but no response This could be a scam. So we are disgusted and disappointed that Tripadvisor are sponsoring this activity
When we got to Hue station they would not except ticket and said it was a scam site. We were very distressed and had to pay 100.00 Aus to get to Hoi An. This is not except able and we would like a full refund Christine
Incredible scenery and experience amongst friendly locals. Highly recommended
I booked two tickets on their website danangtohuebytrain.com the night before for the train of 7:45 the morning after. It says on the website not to book 5 hours or less before the departure which was respected, I booked around 10:30pm. I received an email confirmation, and I knew they hadn’t charged my card for the tickets so I figured they were just booked but I would have to pay at the train station (as there is no information on their website or on the email I received, that’s what I thought). When I get to the train station at 7:20am, I get told by the lady at the ticket desk that she couldn’t find my tickets ( I told her I still had to pay), so I ask if we could just buy two tickets for the train, she tells me they’re sold out. So I call the company and I ask why there are no tickets to my name and the person on the phone says that they are not Vietnam railways and that what I booked was just a “request” to get train tickets. Furthermore she says that since I booked last night they wouldn’t get back to me until the morning ( when they were already sold out). So this lovely lady tells me to just buy the ticket at the station, as if I didn’t just tell her that the train was sold out, which I reiterate to her and she replies that I should just take a bus to Hue since the train was sold out. I don’t understand that their platform is not directly buying the train tickets but there is no explanation, no information on the website or on the email, I have to call them to find out that my tickets actually were never mine. What makes me even more mad about this situation is that instead of being understanding to me as the client, they just tellement to take a bus, not even apologizing for the misunderstanding. Their lack of professionalism is alarming and I would advise you to just directly book through vietnam railways if you want to ACTUALLY BUY a train ticket.
Well organized and a fun journey The scenery following the the coast was a gem. To cap it there was an entertainment carriage complete with two singers decorated Vietnamese style with cuisine and beverages for sale. The train stops half way to allow a stretch and photo session. The diesel love dates back to 1968. A great experience
A nice leisurely trip to Hue that has nice seats and good food with entertainment. What’s not to like. Try a forward right side seat if you have a choice.
A different trip and not the same like in Swizerland and off cours a differnt prize. The weather was not from the best side but we still enjoy the whole trip. We took the tourist train 1405 from Hue to Da Nang, and suggest to take this train in one or othere direction
Purchased tickets for the train from Hue to Da nang, got our tickets fully paid for ( charged on my card).... Only to find out at the railway station that their were no seats booked under that ticket..... So we missed out on the scenic train ride, but had to hire a car at extra cost to get to Da nang.... Very disappointing and will be interesting to find out there response
Great train trip, comfortable seats. However we realised this is just as easy to book via Vietnam Rail or Baolau, and costs way less to do it that way.
Train is quite slow and waiting time is sometimes too long in some stops while waiting for opposite train to pass
I expected some commentary or something as it was a sightseeing train but it was just a regular train trip. Had the weather been clearer the views would have been great though - so I would still say this was a good way to get from Danang to Hue.
Very beautiful train drive between Hue and Da Nang. Easy to take. Good confirmation from local provider.
We booked this experience early on a Thursday morning to travel on Saturday afternoon. The trip was confirmed and our money taken. Thursday evening around 19.42 we were advised the experience was booked out....I don't think it is very fair to take our money and then tell us later the experience is booked out....
We booked Heritage train tickets from Hue to Danang via VM Travel. Very good communication, responds to any question immediately. Very attentive staff. We were very happy with their service and decided to book transfers from Danang to Hoi An and from Hoi An to the airport. Both drivers was very punctual, polite and kind. Highly recommended!
We needed to get to Da Nang from Hue, and with a few keystrokes on the 2Rome website, I purchased 2nd class seating on the local train HD1, leaving at 7.45am from Hue station. The train arrived at the station at 7:.15am and left on time. The seats were comfortable and reclined. There was a cafe coach serving coffee and local snacks. Banh Mi sandwich $1, salt coffee $2, black coffee $1. Part of the journey trasits along the coast and over some small mountains, giving good scenery and plenty of photo opportunities. The train arrived in Da Nang only 2 minutes late. The only negative was that after the first stop, they played "loud" local music, so bring earplugs. All in all, a good experience
Wonderful scenery, a unique experience
Nice trip of nearly 3 hours and 30 minutes through different landscapes, each more beautiful than the last. Very pleasant experience
Very good experience; the views from the train are super beautiful, and the experience of the food, the communal car with typical food sales and music performances, was very authentic!
As beautiful as the ride is scenic, it takes that long. You feel like you're on the road forever. Once you have been assigned the wrong side of the train, you can only see something from the view when you get up. Worst case is wrong side and then still driving backwards. Can't really recommend this train ride.
Nice experience, and nice nature. Good seats. More stretches here where you get to look outward and you sit on the left side in the cabin you get the best view. Can be recommended
